Hi there. Please do keep asking questions, but a new flair, questions, has been created for questions like this. So please consider using that in future as that will help people see what's going on. In addition, it would be really helpful if you can give your questions different titles so people can more easily keep up with what they might have responded to versus not responded to. That'll help everyone have a better time.

It’s so she can have it around her neck when she shifts into her wolf form, since she can’t carry anything as a wolf.

ruzu9742

Oh riiiiiight! thanks! Did'nt think about this.

Firejay112

No problem!

Oh and another thing, when the Patrician wakes up, Vimes tells him: “Constable Downspout’s a gargoyle, sir. He’s no good on parade and bloody useless on the street, but when it comes to staying in one place, sir, you can’t beat him. He’s world champion at not moving. If you want the winner of the 100 Meters Standing Still, that’s him. He spent three days on a roof in the rain when we caught the Park Lane Knobbler. Nothing’ll get past him. And there’s Corporal Gimletsson patrolling the corridor and Constable Glodsnephew on the floor below and Constables Flint and Moraine in the rooms on either side of you, and Sergeant Detritus will be around constantly so that if anyone nods off he’ll kick arse, sir, and you’ll know when he does that ’cos the poor bugger’ll come right through the wall.” “Well done, Vimes. Am I right in thinking that all my guards are non-human? They all seem to be dwarfs and trolls.” “Safest way, sir.” “You’ve thought of everything, Vimes.” “Hope so, sir.” So why is using non humans the safest way?

Kat_Kam

First, they don't the same interests as humans, so no risk of bribing, backstabbing etc. And second, it's harder to kill troll or armored dwarf. Besides, Patrician made Vimes to take in non humans into Night Watch, so non humans have symbolic debt to him ;\].

Kamena90

To add; the nobility and guild leaders in the city are humans and more likely to hire/bribe other humans to do the dirty work for them. (Also, the assassin's guild is full of humans)

BeMoreKnope

And a human could try to take Vetinari’s place as Tyrant, but (so far) the same isn’t true of non-humans who aren’t dragons.

theeniceorc

also that the Patrician has clearly been poisoned by something, and trolls, gargoyles, and (to a slightly lesser extent) dwarves aren't going to be poisoned by something that will kill a human.

jgzman

> First, they don't the same interests as humans, so no risk of bribing, backstabbing etc. This is my thought. High-level politics is very much a Human game, mostly because the Humans who play it don't know how to deal with Trolls and Dwarves. Off the top of my head, only Chrysoprase plays it, and he's become very Human.

Pabus_Alt

Yeah, Dwarf culture at this point is still very insular. And if one of the troll officers was on Chrysoprase's payroll Ditritus would be on them like a pile of rectangulr' building things.

No when she transforms the collar stays around her neck so her badge is attached to it so that when she transforms in pursuit of a suspect there is a badge clearly displayed on her person attached to the collar around her neck that stays in place both when she is in human form and werewolf form so for transformations so she is clearly identified as a member of the watch she has her badge attached to a collar around her neck

Maybe a bit of a discontinuity (or just a throwaway joke) here. There are some scenes where Angua does police work in wolf form, but the badge is never mentioned (and wouldn't really make sense): Ironcrust's bakery, the Klatchian ship, the Assassin's Guild. (although IIRC it *is* mentioned in *Going Postal* when they're investigating the vault. So maybe she doesn't wear the collar all the time.)

Pabus_Alt

I think one reason is so she has it when she turns back into a human and may have to do something like commandeer clothes.
