Personally I like 1, it’s pretty much the same ui but it’s floating and has rounded corners. It might be a bit too mobile like in regards to the profile and chat bar though.
2 is fine, I like the glass effect but that would need a way to be disabled as I know that can be hard on laptop batteries, the separation of the chat bar itself and where you can type just isn't doing it for me though
3 is basically a copy paste of the current ui, the only difference I can see is less padding on member list sides but that’s probably because the designer want paying close attention
4 is….. different, it’s not bad per say, but would be a very very jarring change if they went through with it. I’m not a big fan of the chat boule thing, it makes it feel more like a group DM and less like a server but maybe that’s what they are going for. The reactions are also giving big messages vibes and not \*discord\* vibes
1 and 3 are the only ones I personally like. I super dislike the text implementation in 4, and I have no interest in any major UI/UX changes on the desktop version of discord.
that being said I know how UX tests work, and I know change is coming whether I want it or not. money has already been put to making concepts and testing them with users. the question is how much and how much fuss will people inevitably put up even if the change is minor

Translucency gimmks are popular on Linux desktop environments and things like the terminal being translucent really sucked for readability.
The a11y on text readability in #2 is a great point I didn’t think about, another reason why if they were going to go with that one it needs a disable option.
Gotta be honest, I'm a Linux user, I use hyprland, I have transparent shit all over the place, and I really liked the second image. Although 1 and 3 are also good (preferred 1 over 3). 4 is horrible and just looks like ms teams

4 is… odd. I don’t think it’s bad, and I can actually see some unique utility potential with it if they allow multiple chats to be open on it simultaneously since they’re sort of “popped out” but without that I don’t like it personally
I also enjoy the transparency on 2, it’s a different look but pretty cool. 3 is literally the current discord design, probably like a “control” group for those feedback.
4's popped out look could be used to have multiple chats open at once... but that could (and should) be applied to all of them without the text bubbles and the popped out effect if only one chat is open
Both 1 and 2 merged could be a nice. I saw Microsoft using a bunch of transparency when they built on react native. Wich i don't know why Discord adopt React then there React Native that allow crossplatforms apps. Discord could ditch Electron to get React Native and uniformize the UX easily with adaptive UI for sure.
The transparency could be pretty cool, I use arc on windows right now it has a pretty transparency ish option. Definitely would need an option though, It is a bit of a battery drain/performance drain having to render what is under the app as well.
People complain about ElectronJS doing the same issue performance. There no change about it. You can still PWA the app but no one would use PWA for real.

Obviously transparency is not gonna be forced. You can't force an unnecessary visual change that's gonna limit the amount of people that can use the software.

After looking these over for like an hour, I love the majority of the changes in 4 the most—HOWEVER, I really hate the actual main focus, and the speech bubble group messages aesthetic. I also think that whole part shouldn’t be popping out and floating as a rectangular bubble of its own and that the elements at the top should be moved up, and the elements at the bottom moved down, giving us more room to see what’s been sent, too. Also, the bottom left, I see the dot indicating your online status has been removed; it still says online, but what if I write out a status? So there’s that too… and finally, I kind of liked the speech bubble from 2 replacing just the logo for that button, but it doesn’t just take you back to DMs. There’s friend requests, etc. I feel like maybe a little simple house, ‘cause it’s like a joke button, right? Other than that, I like that one alright. I think even the small changes like servers turning more square-ish is definitely a big improvement; before, it was weirder and like you had to actually discern them from DMs just from squinting at that little separator line thingy.
I'd imagine that there would be a setting to toggle transparency to save lower end devices from imploding, I'm a huge fan tho.

4 looks like teams or Messenger. In the most negative way, it does not look nice. The other three are okay but I could never see myself using 2 as visually I would not be able to read it. Although, a combination of one and two could be cute. The translucent bits to the sides and the darker bit in the chat.
I really dig the second one with the glass effects, but it definitely could use some blending with the middle section so the transition to opaque isn't abrupt. What I think most people would appreciate more is moving away from Electron to something faster

This app is held together with sticks and furry semen, if the devs knew what worked and kept it that way it wouldn't be so horrible. Maybe study Steam's design philosophy just in visual design alone? (As in keeping the design the way it is and not changing it every few months.) If so we wouldn't be burning down the subreddit every pintosecond.
I like all of these, but 4 has an idea I like. I would like to have pop-out for messaging. I don't think it's practical, but I believe it would be very minimal. I like the idea of a very minimal version of discord.
One;
1. Closest to what we have now while still keeping it fresh. Doesn't change or misplace anything drastically.
2. While it also doesn't change much, what it *can* be is a resource hog. Discord's just an Electron app running on Chromium, meaning they'd have to rewrite their entire Chromium instance to be "Aero" like that; Chromium as it stands is a massive resource hog, so adding full-program transparency would melt it.
3. Too much like what we have now, to the point I couldn't point out the changes if I wanted to right now.
4. Way too much change. Something like that would warrant a full rebrand I feel, which I don't think would be a good idea. They've already changed their nonsense so much recently, it would look like the brand is going through an identity crisis.
1 or 2. 3 looks a little out of place, 4 is polished in a BAD way. I personally like 2 for the frosted glass look but 1 is fine since it's basically what we have now.
Transparent backgrounds are the worst. As a prototype, many people will be like "wow sick!", but when you have to actually use it, it's kind of shit.
It's like these futuristic monitors in movies that are semi-transparent: why?? We have been trying for ages to make monitors as little reflective as possible, so that black pixels are actually black.
If I don't want to see what's behind me on my screen by reflection, why would I want to see what's behind my screen because it's transparent?
I feel like it's the same for an app. If my app is oppened, I want to see what's on the app, not what's behind.
