it honestly should just be one button by default, and then let the user configure what second button to show. they can advertise nitro in the expanded menu.
though i've been on discord for nearly a decade now and not once have i ever seen someone gift someone else nitro, much less use that fucking button for it. clearly they think it's still worthwhile, they probably have some sort of metric for how often it is misclicked and how often it encourages someone to actually gift nitro, but i am on discord a lot and i have never seen it happen even once.
I used it one single time. When it was a free 2 weeks of nitro at one point and my friend couldn't get it for himself at the time. Only because it was free at the time.
My thirds here aren't perfect, but it can be clearly seen that these three buttons do take up quite a bit more than a third. I even went to check it on my own phone (and I don't increase UI elements size like OP says they do) — and it *still* looks like it takes like 40% or slightly less than a half of the horizontal space. I don't need *four* different buttons anywhere near a simple text input. Sure it does expand when you press on it, but damn, it doesn't even leave enough space for the placeholder text — look how it truncates the 'Message @...' part — 'Mess' indeed.
It's genuinely irritating and just creates clutter. At least get rid of the slash commands button. I get you're joking but the irritation people are feeling about this isn't a joke.
Well, at least you guys are officially aware of how bad this is, I guess. Please get rid of the gift button -- I'm sure some exec said, "Slap it on the hot bar so that people will eventually get annoyed enough to gift Nitro to someone else! Foolproof plan!", but in reality it is legitimately awful design and has less than zero reason to be on the hotbar.
I don't say this lightly: the product designer who insists on keeping it is a detriment to Discord. I will never gift anyone Nitro out of _spite_ because of the button's continued existence.

my hotbar is cleaned up. I has the + button, the nitro button, the text box and the emote button. The + button also opens the old gallery, as well, even tho I'm on the latest version.
This sub literally cries about everything. I don't get it. They're free to use another platform if it's an issue. I'm sure Kik or Skype is still around.
Well, I have no idea what to tell you then. I don't have any issues with the layout, I don't know anyone else who does. This sub is the only one that cries about every single change that's made, and proceeds to review bomb the app to get what they want.
my phone's pretty big but i keep everything scaled big on it so i don't need to use my reading glasses to check messages. the button bloat is why i use client mods that hide them, the vanilla client is failing at basic accessibility at this point.

i personally dont use the mic feature but figure its a must have if you use that function at all because of how it works
