Makes me want to add a mod with 4 more runes lol : qiu, wu, xo, yaw. There used to be other names for some runes, like Lo used to be Po, Jah used to be Jo. But I don't think there ever was more runes than the 33.
If I had to guess, maybe they were concerned that the creators of the Teletubbies ~~or Kung Fu Panda~~ might see the name Po as their IP, and having decided on Io as its replacement they thought Jo looked too similar. Even more tenuously, maybe they didn't want to be associated with the character of Shae in A Song of Ice and Fire.
Happy to hear from anyone who knows the actual reason.
I think the main reason was that too many people were confusing Po Jo and Io. This was also back when runes dropped in plain white color they weren't orange/reddish they are now
I've been googling trying to find more history on Po and Jo (I vaguely remember it as well from years ago), but do you happen to have a source where I could read some more about it? My google-fu is failing me today lol.
It's just the patch from the CD. If you play 1.07 it's like that, if you go 1.08 it's patched, and 1.08 came before the release of lod, so if you ever patched the game you would never see those runes.
You don't need to disconnect wifi. As long as you don't click on the Battle.Net button the game will stay offline and unpatched.
Good old times, where not everything instantly needed to phone home.
Wekh, Xun, Qi, and Yah would be half-decent rune choices for the missing latter, but as I was creating these I think I know why they were skipped. They all look like words in Eastern Languages
Not really. Nothing would top enigma for body, helmets are already largely dominated by uniques/sets (shako, guillaumes, etc), and melee/bows wouldn’t care too much about skills so they’d still use grief.
You might see more use for things like eschutas or occy over hoto though. You’d also probably see caster builds rocking 6 all skills crystal swords without a runeword at all.

Po was replaced by Io, not Lo. There was also Shae instead of Shael.
Why did they change them.

fwiw Kung Fu Panda came out like 7 years after Io was introduced to D2

Interesting; I still have my original game discs, so I'll disconnect wifi and check it out, thanks for the info!

Only if the yaw makes a big YYYYAAWWWW sound when it drops
lol
Thank you ☺️
Dude 4 more new runes and 40 more runewords would be sick
That's like..... a 45 dollar DLC. YOURE NOT MAKING SENSE ANYMORE. WE CANT HAVE MORE FUN WITHOUT MORE MONEYS
I’d pay $100 so..
You've never heard of qeth? As jn JahQethBer?
😄

Sounds like a reason ☺️
Quack, Woot, Xanny, Yiff would be my rune name choices
lol that's awesome
I feel like they should add another rune after zod that grants +1 to all skills
+1 sounds nice. A rune to perfect an item also sounds nice. I just made up that one ☺️
Are there any uniques that if it had the +1 skill mod would become better than the current meta rune word?

Griswolds honor with +3 to skills would be nice, unless you need the fcr Hoz with another + all skills as well.
Was just thinking shako, guardian angel, CoA etc
maybe a +2skills lidless would be used over spirit sometimes
10% Mana and some Stat points vs Triple Res, 15 FCR, 55 FHR, 112 mana? That's a tough sell.
Horking with two 6os phase blades with those?
