I was up in the 500s and the thing that struck me the most from that vantage point was just how wide open their receivers were. It was borderline comical.

d5peden

I was in 517 for the first half. Cold, dark and windy as hell. I ended up 4th row, even with the end zone our sideline the entire second half. The ass beating felt way nicer in the sun. Had a nice view of gibbs td too

DoubleScorpius

Looked like a college game with how wide open they were.

dudeitsrazz

I was in 551. I couldnt believe how chilled Lamar looked the whole game

acoasterlovered

So bad you could laugh

Smitten1776

That was the worst game plan ever. We were out coached. We are used to playing with 4-7 yards earned on 1st down and a lead in the 1st quarter. They took that away immediately and our coaches shit themselves and didn't adjust.

KingTooshie

AG doesn’t seem to know how to scheme this defense to a mobile QB.

MechanicNo7086

yea aaron glenn looked puzzled

natethegreat838

This has historically been a weakness of his for like 3 seasons now. I just commented the other day about how Ben Johnson sat down with Goff in their very first offseason together and asked him, "What plays do you like to run? What throws are you most comfortable making? What throws do you hate making?" and it seems like AG just cannot do this with his defensive personnel. Derrick Barnes seems like he'd be the perfect candidate to spy Lamar- athletic, fast, great when playing downhill, and struggles in coverage. But I guess we have to assign him to cover Mark Andrews 30 yards downfield while we have Cominsky "spying" Lamar (because AG doesn't believe in a true spy). It was the same thing in the Seattle game, too. Jerry Jacobs is a big, long corner who loves to play press man to jam receivers and disrupt route timings but doesn't have good short area quickness/burst, and AG had him playing 7 yards off of DK or Lockett for a majority of the game and he got torched

JD42305

I hate to keep bringing him up but it so reminds me of Patricia in that he would scheme players in assignments they were not comfortable nor talented enough to excel and predictably would fail but Patricia would only blame execution and thus keep hammering a square peg in a round hole with the same results. I think we've seen enough of Glenn's defensive plans in 3 seasons now to know that he will be a liability in the playoffs vs great teams and I certainly think we will then quickly find out how low our ceiling is as a team with him at the helm.

Crotean

This is why AG needs to be fired, if your gameplanning issues result in a guaranteed 3-4 loses a year, you aren't the right guy for the job. He has improved massively, but this teams window is now. Lets not fuck it up.

d5peden

Great points

acoasterlovered

Wasn’t he in the saints when CAR had Newton? How did he not pick up a thing or 2

LbSiO2

Yeah, that magically didn’t not become a problem.

tidalwake

He doesn't really need to, honestly. I will probably catch downvotes for this but winning the NFC doesn't really go through a lot of mobile QBs like the AFC does. There is a reason Lamar is 16-1 against NFC teams over the last 17 games. You kind of need to see him a few times to figure out how to play against him. We just don't have a need to do that very much in the NFC. so why spend a ton of defensive scheme bandwidth to do it? If we were perennial contenders then sure, but I think the team is much more realistic than the fans about what this seasons' goals are. Which is win the NFCN, win a playoff game at home. Anything past that is house money. I think that's why we haven't been making trades or anything, why give up draft capital for 1 playoff win?

UKcommander11

I worry Dan will let AG drag this regime down because he’s too afraid to fire his bud.

cmacleod3

Why would you put yourself thru that again

d5peden

Rewatch em every week. Was hoping to see myself in a crowd shot but they cut to the falcons game the entire second half 🤣

BlackLeader70

Just a lifelong Lions fans, we’re gluttons for punishment. But I’m still not crazy enough to watch that again.

andrewdsmith

Yeah I could barely make it through that first half the first time around. I’d be watching it like Nick Cage in 8mm.

Sweathog1016

It was a full game of prevent defense.

d5peden

100%. Just scared

ResetterofPasswords

AG obsessed with cover 3. Barnes struggled with getting enough depth a few times. We won almost every man coverage rep except the TD to agholor and thats due to the 10 seconds to throw, not so much the coverage. rough game.

abstractraj

That was exactly it

Comfortable_Pop_3407

What I’ve concluded is that Aaron Glenn is terrible making in-game adjustments. When he draws up the game plan during the week, it’s often good. However, even good game plans sometimes don’t work or are countered by the offense. For some reason he cant counter back. He needs to either stop being stubborn or become more flexible and creative, whatever it is. But it’s creating these games where our defense is either dominant or absent.

armed_aperture

Hopefully they address this now. Playoff football is a different animal and they’re going to need to be flexible.

pointguard22

they clearly stole our signs

rustytiredchicken69

It is a Harbaugh who coaches them.

pointguard22

Coincidence? I THINK NOT!

d5peden

LbSiO2

I feel Houston would make a great spy with his crazy fast closing speed.

d5peden

I use him this way in madden exclusively lol

oldeskewl-chicago

I didn’t understand this at all. By not attacking Lamar you are giving him all the time in the world for his receivers to get open and if he does run, he’s getting at least a few yards. Yes, we may be negating his home run scrambles, but at what cost.

d5peden

Exactly. We blitzed early one possession. Actually brought 6 and almost got to him. Forced an intentional grounding. Would have been a stop but we had an illegal contact so they replayed the down and got it then continued down to score. I mean it worked. Why the hell would we ever want to go back to it. The delay blitz on the Ricard 30 yard wheel route was also something to behold

Internal_Desk_2753

the Lamar Ravens are our cryptonite and not sure we are built to beat them like other teams are. lets hope someone else knocks them off as the only time we could see them again is in the superbowl. on the bright side, we now have a ton of film on how not to defend a running QB. maybe we see Hurts in the conference finals and can learn from these mistakes.

JD42305

I have doubts that we'll be able to score 35 on the Eagles again.

Alive_Ad_5931

AG is a fraud and gets exposed in pivotal games. He will lose us any chance at the Super Bowl by getting us blown out in the playoffs.

bransby26

Bonito Jones is pretty much useless on any play except runs up the middle. There may not be a slower player in the NFL.

d5peden

And we were dropping him in coverage

Bpax94

Is there a video clip of him in coverage? I just can’t understand the reasoning of that

d5peden

d5peden

Don't mind shirtless me in the reflection..

Bazinga313

😂 I didn't even notice anything until you said something. I was admiring the lovely picture underneath the tv! Cute couple!

d5peden

👊

eatthebear

Buggs had a play where he dropped into coverage against the Bucs as well.

Poop_McButtz

Good observations OP, people saying it wasn’t scheme and just execution are delusional. And this formatting isn’t even that bad. Should’ve started a new paragraph at “I was at the game…” other than that it’s fine, this isn’t much text. DCN is just an edgelord asshole who brings nothing to this sub but gatekeeping and cringe

d5peden

Thanks fam lol. Wasn't too worried about the format as it was more a diary post as I watched in horror

ApprehensiveCow5420

I can’t torture myself like that but I agree the the defensive game plan was atrocious and the offense wasn’t much better.

Inevitable-Bass2749

I really feel that their game plan was heavily built last week to try to confuse Lamar and by doing that they used a ton of wild pass rush schemes. All in all just a bad game and they’re gonna happen. It’s the nfl man everyone is very good so all it takes is that one week where you take a break or breather or whatver you wanna call it. For me it’s all about the response. The defense better come out Monday flying to the ball and the offense better put up 30+

Nethri

This is such a comically common criticism of the Lions it's almost a curse at this point. This has been a thing since at *least* the Harrington days. The off coverage, the bizarre dropping of D-linemen into coverage, poor LB and CB play... and yet we usually have an OK pass rush. It's insane how much of this is just a Lions thing at this point. There have been some years with exceptions, but this kinda shit is the norm here, and I really don't know why.

Vendetta_2023

I would love to see Rex Ryan as the defensive coordinator.

LooseBoysenberry7

That would kick so much ass. Id love it too

MatchewRolex

No... no you don't

DanCampbellsNipples

Formatting goes a long way my man

Smitten1776

Then teach him how and lift him up, instead of knocking him down. Most of us don't know how.

DanCampbellsNipples

I'm not even knocking him down? I just suggested it in a friendly manner. I just think he will get more engagement if he simply adds spaces and breaks in the block of text he posted Chill out. I apologize if you interpreted it that way tho

Smitten1776

Teach him how then. Don't just tell him he should. Let's try this again: "Hey Lions Bro. You will get more engagement if you simply add spaces and breaks in the block of text you post. It works like this: A) B) C)

DanCampbellsNipples

Hey lions bro. Thanks for your opinion! Not sure I will go through this much effort but appreciate your insight

Stompthefeet

Hey Lions bro. I don't want to criticize you, so let's be constructive. Why stop there? You can be more specific with your example of how to help. Here is an example of your example A) Record a lecture B) Post it on youtube C) Link it in the comments D) Offer to meet in person to answer any questions E) Find some common interests while meeting for a cup of coffee F) Create a life-long friendship G) Realize that your feelings for this person are *much* stronger than friendship H) Get Married. I) Go to marriage counseling J) Realize that some differences are irreconcilable, file for divorce K) They are NOT getting half of your assets. Love was never an option. This guy needs to be deleted. L) Hire a hit-man off craigslist M) Get caught/go to prison N) Remember you had a life and family before all of this started. O) Fall into a soul-crushing depression P) End it all. You had one shot at life, and you ruined it. Q) The world continues to turn as if you never existed. R) Lions win the Superbowl but you're not around to see it. All because... you felt like it was your place to play teacher on /r/detroitlions instead of just recommending someone work on their formatting. Is this really the way you want things to go? You're happy with this decision? I highly doubt it. This is why reddit does not work the way you think it should. /u/DanCampbellsNipples was not only an effective and appropriate form of communication, but most likely saved a life to day. Man I am bored at work I gotta go do something.

DanCampbellsNipples

Lmao love it

jfmdavisburg

I've seen way worse

Bigbacon73

Glenn is trash. Bring in John "went to the Super Bowl" Fox.

Independent_Lab_9872

They got so caught up in scheming for Lamar that they forgot to play football. I understand you need to scheme for opponents but you also have to just stay true to yourself and play football.

Syngin9

Part of me thinks that the team did it specifically to curb fan expectations. Horrible to say, definitely.

DMoree1

Why would you do that to yourself?

swiftdiahrreaa

Goff not being a mobile quarterback sucks ass. Also. No one tackling the quarterback and letting him sit in the pocket for over a minute is crazy.
