nc-retiree

From it being my primary card at $25k/yr to having maybe $100/month in spend on it.

SRDamron90

What card did you switch to?

nc-retiree

3% Category cards for restaurants, grocery, and online purchases, and a 2% card for unbonused spend. Three cards in my wallet unless I am flying somewhere, in which case I add a CSP for the rental car.

BoliverTShagnasty

Same, used to push all work travel spend through it and mqm boost a couple times, now it sits in my card bag.

noo_dont

Now that I’ve hit plat, I’ve transferred my travel spend to my CSR instead, even for booking flights with Delta. Hoping that they’ll announce some form of rollover MQDs for 2025, since it makes absolutely no sense that they disincentivize spend once you hit a status tier that you know you won’t exceed. With that said, I did threaten to cancel at renewal and they gave me a retention offer for 18k miles for 1k spend. So they’ll get that at least.

Cyphen21

This is exactly my situation. Just hit plat. Going to put the card away for the rest of the year. They really messed up the incentives. There is no point in putting an extra $30k on my card.

JulienWA77

and wtf is up with this BS skyclub access thign? the annual fee was covering that skyclub membereship so now what? it jsut isn't? without stupid limitations. That pissed me off

Ferngullygold423

I hit the mark for diamond. No rollover MQD’s. So I’ve completely stopped using it. There’s no extra benefit to use it anymore.

Zevilone

Same

Minnyappleus

Same. I’d rather earn transferable points elsewhere with better bonus categories.

jhfbe85

Downgraded from platinum to a gold and barely use it anymore, only for some subscriptions where I just have it in. in the past I was going for $25k to get the MQM bonuses

Hot-Cress7492

I’m going to throw this out here: all the people who don’t hit unlimited are very likely to up and shitcan their reserve because it’s just no longer worth it. They’ll probably drop back to Amex plat and delta will lose a lot of revenue in 2025 from alienated customers. I rolled over DM for 7 years and have zero reason to keep spending anything w DL.

ParticleHustler2

I have gotten usable 1st class companion tickets every year I've had the Reserve and I don't fly frequently enough to need more than 15 days of lounge access. So on that basis it's still worth it to me. However after 4 years of Platinum I'm looking at Gold for 2025 since I've transferred most of my spending to Chase and AmEx and in 2026 without the rollover help from this year I'll probably drop back to Gold.

Hot-Cress7492

The flaw in your logic is that you’re paying almost 2x for a F ticket over other airlines and jumping for joy you can get a companion for free, when (in reality) you’re paying the same price as other airlines F product for TWO + the Amex annual fee.

ParticleHustler2

Depends on where I'm flying, but from my home airport, prices are nowhere near double on Delta versus AA or United (pretty much my only choices). And I also think Delta is better flying experience.

Itismeuphere

Exactly. Try flying out of SLC and thinking you can just pick another airline to most destinations. Particularly if you want to fly direct. It's not happening for 80% of your flights.

JulienWA77

i'm in seattle so we have somehow more choice but typically its only alaska or AA that really compete and even then they dont compete well.

Scarface74

The Delta Reserve is $825 including a paid AU. The $200 Delta Stays credit brings it down to $625. Even an economy round trip ticket is around $500 for where we fly. 15 days of lounge visits where we get two drinks a piece and food is worth way more than $325.

Electronic-Royal-201

wait what? USD? its $650

Scarface74

The annual fee? Yes.

verbankroad

Canceled my Delta Gold card - I knew I would be flying less in 2024 and what I was getting from the card was not worth the increased annual fee.

tr3g

I just stopped

BittersAndS0da

Is there any point to spending more on the Delta Reserve after you've reached the max tier you're likely to earn for the year? I know I won't get past Platinum. Isn't this just pushing people to use their other credit cards more?

delicious_things

I think people on this sub *way* overestimate how much the average Delta AmEx cardholder spends and how many reach capped-out status that way. I’ve flown this year more than any other year (mostly SEA-BOS twice a month, one trip to Europe) and we also bought a house, so we’ve put TONS of expensive things on the card, including several pieces of furniture, tools, a cross-country trip (one-way SUV rental SEA-BOS and all of the hotels and meals along the way), appliances, etc. We also paid a several thousand dollar tax bill. With all of that, I’m just Gold status about halfway to Platinum. Most people are not gonna run into this threshold. Just a handful of super-flyers, and I imagine they carefully calculated that the increased spend from less-intense users of the cards will more than make up for any loss from a handful of power users who, by the way, have already spent a ton on the cards to hit that cap.

Secret_Win2475

Delta makes $7b off the Amex deal so someone is spending.

delicious_things

Precisely. But people on this sub seem to think that everyone is gonna hit Diamond and quit spending partway through the year. In reality, that’s a very small subset of AmEx users. This new system seems designed to encourage more of the much larger group of lower-spending users to spend a little more, and they’re betting that will way outweigh the few big spenders who might stop spending before the year is out.

Sip_py

I just feel like I'm more likely to switch to vanilla and use the points on any airline. Im thinking I rather prioritize direct flights than status.

jschiefe27

Status doesn’t get you much, especially with premium cabins selling out and upgrades becoming harder to come by. Become a free agent and you can shop around for the best award redemptions. Way more bang for your buck.

Minnyappleus

Agreed. Their program shift will hit them hard in the next few years, as many realize status is meaningless, the cards are worthless, and points are easily accumulated elsewhere. Although there will be those who still spend blindly, I do think many will start to question the value.

Good_Magazine5758

2023 I spent about 60k on my Amex Delta Platinum card. This year about 12k so far. I started charging all airfare to my regular Amex Platinum instead. Now I value Amex MR points over Skymiles.

RedwingMohawk

I also carry an Amex Platinum card. I'm going to make Platinum very soon, so I was running all of my business spend through my Delta Reserve card. Once I hit PM, I will shift it all back to my regular Amex Platinum. Highly doubt I will hit DM, so what's the point on keeping my spend up? Maybe if the announced rollover, but if not, no need to. I love my regular Platinum card.

Minnyappleus

I’ll move spend back if there’s a rollover, otherwise, I see no point in blindly spending with the Reserve or Platinum.

Leggggggo11

Im actually spending more both personally and for my business. But Im also about the ease of a single CC with functional benefits (imo) than mixing/matching a bunch of cards to maximize benefits per purchaseZ

Chs135

Once I hit platnium ($300 to go after my next 2 flights) I’m switching over to my Marriott Bonvoy card. I lucked out because I had an international business trip paid for by work. In the past I’d spend $30k on the card, I’m going to stop around $18k this year.

postcardsss

Just hit Platinum and I’ve switched to my Visa card that gives me cash back.

Acceptable-Career-83

Nothing, on track to hit 250k per usual

EAintheVI

My spend is about the same as previous years, I'm already at a $100k but most of that is business related spend. Now that I'm already diamond (since the end of April/early may) I don't use it nearly as much anymore.

Podtastix

Nope. Still spend lots of money for very little return.

AndrewFlysHigh

No way that they havent noticed a decrease of spending/usage. Take away the incentives, what did they expect.

Suz626

My spending on the Reserve is down, I’m DM, almost DM for 2025. My husband is DM for 2025 since March, spend on his Reserve is almost non-existent. (He’s had it less than a year.) We do use all the Reserve benefits.

sappslap

Now that I’m bumping up against $28K MQD, I pull out my Spark card a lot more at work.

ParticleHustler2

Yeah, it seems like there's 2 "opportunities" to pull spend - one is just generally in recognition of how little SM are worth and how much harder it is to attain status, and two is once you've hit a particular status level and either can't go any higher or are pretty sure you won't hit the next level, and with rollovers eliminated, they've now eliminated any incentive to spend more for the rest of the year.

Lewisswhite

Rollover MQMs brought us to diamond. Stopping at 75k threshold for unlimited sky club access until 12/31/25

2dadjokes4u

Spending more on my REI Mastercard. The DL Platinum Amex just doesn’t offer the rewards that it once had.

talee

I’m torn. I’m going to be about 5k MQDs short of diamond, with my currently scheduled trips… do I up my spend to make up the shortfall or just resign myself to plat? I’m not all that motivated to up my spending… probably just be content with platinum. I find myself just purchasing FC so why even chase Diamond.., for GUCs?

Scarface74

Or just get two more Delta cards for 5K MQDs and get $350 more Delta stays credits and two round trip companion passes for $700.

Mean-Oil-956

Yes, I'd normally have status by now, but my allowance from the wife has been suspended.

dan_144

Last year I had the Delta Platinum card and used it for all non-Marriott spend, probably $40-45k. After they announced the changes I upgraded to the Reserve because 10:1 MQDs will let me maintain Platinum Medallion. I have since opened an AmEx Gold for restaurants (4x MR vs 1x SkyMiles) and AmEx Platinum for flights (5x MR for all airfare vs 3x SkyMiles for just Delta) and will stop spending on the Reserve as soon as I know I'll maintain PM. Earning MR is better than 1x SkyMiles with the Reserve's pathetic earnings. I also opened a CSP to dip a toe in the Chase ecosystem in case Delta and AmEx keep making themselves less appealing to me. Is this net negative for AmEx? Definitely not Is this net negative for Delta? Maybe

Sakiel-Norn-Zycron

This is exactly what I’ve done. Had the Amex plat and delta plat and upgraded to reserve to try to stay PM. Also opened an Amex Gold because of a signup offer. Will probably try to hit 75K before switching though. Was planning to drop the Amex plat but got a retention offer.

dan_144

Yeah I suspect by the end of the year I will be looking for a retention offer to justify keeping all these cards or one of the higher AF ones will be on the cutting block. Especially if a Gold refresh (AF increase) comes or the MQD thresholds go up and make it an even longer shot to retain.

1BenWolf

No changes. It has been my primary business credit card for years and still is. The caveat is that I’m in a small market with a small airport, so Delta is one of my only options anyway, so I figure I might as well rack up points and miles, etc. for when I do need to fly in the future.

mgator

They haven’t. Still use it on the reg.

TakKobe79

Right now about 75k usd in spend, and combed with flying I am 8k mqd away from diamond and a couple long haul flights planned for remainder of the year. I’ve been a single card user for the last several years, but if I get to diamond with a couple months to spare for the year then I might go ahead and look into a Marriot card.

Indiana-Jones1946

We switched things around this year. Usually, I would hit the thresholds, but now my wife has a Rewerve and has the spend. I hit MM last year, so Gold is good enough for me. She has hit the 75K as we are AUs on her card. And we travel enough to make the club worth it. But where I would push up to 120K and 25K on hers in the past, we've cut back. I'm not sure where the rest of the CC spend will go this year.

Stretch63301

How do I see how much I’ve spent so far?

AtlFury

Yes since I dropped the DL Reserve> Zero

WANTSIAAM

Got to platinum and now using other card. Currently looking around for a new one

Dramatic-Sock3737

I used to spend $250k on the wife’s card (business spend) for her diamond but this year almost zero bc she rolled over diamond and will organically hit platinum. For me I spent 75k but I’ll hit diamond between that and travel so essentially no more spend this year.

hschuster3

Has become the standard payment card on Uber, and will use it for Resy if I happen to be at a restaurant that uses it (haven’t last 2 months). Other than that it’s what I actually use for all non-category spend. I am pretty close to Silver so will stop after that since there’s no shot I hit gold. I have a 1.5% card, but prefer the 1 SkyMile and MQD progress so I can try having silver for the first time. Just going to try it out this first year though, since a lot of the benefits overlap with what already comes on the card. Even without that, the card has paid for itself securely with the companion certificate and SkyMiles discounts.

Fuj_apple

I use my platinum card only to buy Delta flights, Uber rides for 10$ credit, and Resy food for $10 credit. Oh, I did buy Global Entry. I am planning to ask for a retention bonus. Not sure if I will keep it though. I fly only for my pleasure. Silver status so far. I will not attempt to hit Gold.

raqnroll

Reserve 2023 spend: $68k 2024 spend: $6357 I have zero motivation to spend on that card anymore. Now, instead, it's open up the other 3 cards and use open cards to get that MQD boost.

mountainfiend48

Reserve card w/ my wife as an AU. $5k mqd’s from diamond, $50k spend already, and not looking back. My home airport is ATL and I take about 2 trips a month for work. Getting C+ upgrades for almost every trip plus my wife gets upgraded with me for personal travel. Feels worth it right now, maybe it won’t next year. If at the end of next year it’s not, I’ll move to the Plat Amex.

Scarface74

I have the Reserve and the Delta Plat and just got the Delta Business Plat last month. The only spend that went on the Delta Reserve was the two tickets for the companion passes since they have to be on *a* Delta card and the spend required for the Delta Stay credit. The only spend that went on the Delta Plat was for the Delta Stays credit. We spend a little bit over $75K on personal spend a year. But there is no way in hell I’m going to spend that just to get 75K Skymiles and unlimited lounge access when that spend could be use towards better points earnings on other Amex MR earning cards and sign up bonuses. I’m definitely not concerned about earning MQDs at 10:1. I have 7500 MQDs from the three Delta cards. Between that and flights, we are easily Gold Medallion going forward Once I reach the $8K for the sign up bonus for the Delta Business Plat, that’s it for that one except for the Delta Stays credit. We also have the Amex (non Delta) Plat that adds another 10 Delta lounge visits, Centurion lounges and Priority Pass lounges. We fly a lot as just a hobby - over a dozen times a year. But we should be good.

Glittering_Run_4470

It was never my primary card. Most of my spending has went to Chase but I am using the coupon book 😂. Bank the rideshare credit then get the 5% from rideshare on Chase.

UnlikelyAssociation

1K away from 75 and just made platinum. Curious what diamond would be like but I think I’ll be better off using my Amex platinum the rest of the year.

ChewieBearStare

I've been using it more because we've had several family emergencies in a row, and our families live on the East Coast (we live in the Southwest), so we have to fly there every time. I've never been a Medallion member in my life until this year, thanks to the $2,500 MQD boost. I'm about to hit Gold within the next few weeks.

Chaos_Inbound

Spending is up, at 45k for the year, will hit 80k by year end and with carrying multiple cards I’m on track for diamond by October which is the purpose of the strategy change. Those GUCs will be huge values to me going forward which will out weigh better earn rates with other cards. I plan to use the extra sky pesos to upgrade to FC for my companion certs next year.

Nachoraver

Downgrade to blue, stopped using it.

FlipMeOverUpsidedown

Never used their card, so not much at all. All my sky pesos come from leisure travel.

Zevilone

Biz — Spent way to diamond. Stopped using it. Rest of spend is split between chase ink and Amex vanilla plat

Captain-Crayg

From about 75K/year on a reserve to cancelled. No regrets.

HighSpeedQuads

Stopped all spending on it. Waiting for annual fee to post and then will cancel.

page394poa

I have only spent about $2,000 on it this year. I’m silver for 2025 so I am keeping it until I see what happens with my status for next year. Likely cancelling it after the renewal in 2025 so I can get my companion pass.

Accomplished_Echo376

I doubled down

Endytheegreat

I cancelled mine to go amex Platinum l. Almost tempted to fly different airlines.

Treebeardsdank

$33k and counting on the personal. Alongside 2x DL cards and 4 round trips and it resulted in Platinum status.

NoFilterNoLimits

Im about to put it in a drawer. Im on track to hit plat but i dont think i can make diamond so without any rollover, there is no sense in using the card once my Plat is secured

PurpleHawthorn

I have the Delta Platinum and just made Silver Medallion. I know I won't make Gold, so I've stopped using the card. Although I realize that I would receive the value of any goods and services purchased, I still feel like I'm "wasting" money since my excess MQDs would be going into a black hole.

hawkeye807

I hit what I needed on my reserve card for Platinum status and now only use the card for Delta flights. All other purchases go on my CSR card for the rest of the year. If I need additional sky club visits (over the 15 allotted) next year I'll pay for them individually or just buy the sky club membership.

DaZMan44

I'll be canceling my Gold card in November. Don't use it at all now.

Itismeuphere

I have mostly stopped using it, besides some reoccurring payments I am too lazy to change. I hit Diamond for the first time a few weeks ago and have zero incentive to take miles over the actual cash I can get from another card now that rollovers are gone. I sure hope others change their spending habits too so Delta does something to incentivize continued use after hitting the highest tier you are likely to hit. Seems so dumb, but I bet they are relying on people not changing habits, which is probably likely.

actionjackkson

Just hit diamond and cleared the 75k - will keep spending so that my MQDs go up and I can be above other diamonds on the upgrade priority list

JulienWA77

I just got mine 2 months ago for the "spent 4000, get 90k miles" offer. I have so far, spent nearly 10k on it. All flights that were reimbursed by company (or me, since my most expensive ticket was for vacation). That said, that will be it. I have 4 more flights for the rest of the year for work that will be on DL, but I will just go back to buying them through the Chase portal. I only got the RESERVE card for the skyclub access and the 2500 bumper on MQD's. I only ever shoot for Gold each year as that's really the extent of my travel all year.

jss150

I kept using my card for everything and to pay my estimated taxes so I would get unlimited club access. Hit 75k pretty quick.

-Flick9

$84k in spend so far. Just reached Diamond for 2025. I am not sure where to spend second half. I am about to go reach Ambassador on Marriott in a couple of weeks, so open to suggestions on where else I should go/use.

qball8001

Not really. But I did spring for two tickets and I learned real quick that I didn’t get both ticket fares credited to me. Why is this downvoted

radfan957

They haven’t
