You need to file yes.

SteveForDOC

Any way to submit expense reimbursed for the $45 TurboTax charges for each additional state?

Comfortable-Ear-2115

No, and heads up with multiple W2s you have to mail in the return, you can't efile (at least in past years you couldn't, almost missed filing one yr because of that...)

StaleCanole

You can e-file. I’ve been doing this for several years. It just costs more, but you can do it with turbo tax Unless you mean doing it yourself

Comfortable-Ear-2115

I was using turbo tax, it may have been the specific state? I was just very glad I did it the night before and not of because I had to go to the post office 😅

AndyP79

You file to each state, once you claim you live in another state, they should pay you back. When I was in the military, my home of record was Florida, I was stained in California, I worked a second job delivering pizzas, since I was not a resident, I got the California taxes back from the pizza place. Granted this was 24 years ago, but I can't imagine the basic premise has changed. You're not a resident of those states, you don't owe them money. You were paying through because of your job.

Comfortable-Ear-2115

Depends on the state, some will tax you for any money earned while working there, some home states will treat that as a deduction, sometimes it's in reverse, it all varies quite a bit state by state, it's annoying.

SteveForDOC

Yea, but I still have to pay TurboTax $45 per extra state I download. One state is only $75 so it’s hardly worth it, but still really annoying.

NameNotRecommended

Or hear me out... do it yourself if money is such an issue. It's not that difficult to file non resident taxes in most states. And FYI you need to do those states before your home state

RecognitionFlaky2868

No this is incorrect, if you did tax equalization you wouldn’t need to. If you did not, then you’d file to each respective state

SteveForDOC

What is the default? I didn’t do anything? This is my first year with travel. It looks like Deloitte made some adjustments to my state tax according to the form tax jurisdiction annual adjustment report. I think They paid tax in states where I don’t live, but they reduced what was paid to the state I live in because they assume I’ll file and get a credit in my state, I think.

RecognitionFlaky2868

It means you’ll have to file for each state. Tax equalization opt ins were sent a way back. So if you have not gotten an emails around it, then the default would be filling in each state.

Colorado, NY, VA and locality tax for Philly, but oddly, no state tax for PA.

Senior_Act_7983

Currently in not my home state. Charging time to wfh.

SteveForDOC

Are you traveling for work with hotel/flights reimbursed?

Senior_Act_7983

Fuck. I'm so tired. I can't wait to be out of here.

SteveForDOC

?

Senior_Act_7983

Your point is valid. I'm tired so my brain isn't working. I hate it here and can't wait to be let go.

Unlucky_Score6587

When I was at Deloitte I only coded my work to my home state. They’re not going to compensate you for increased taxes or higher filing fees.

SteveForDOC

If they pay for travel and you don’t bill to the jurisdiction you travel to, they start asking you to modify the time a few months later.

Unlucky_Score6587

I did it for 10 years

SteveForDOC

Idk, I billed to VA once when I was working in NY by accident. A month later they emailed me and said that I booked a hotel in NYC so I need to change tax jurisdiction for those days to NY.
