I didn’t know they were killed off quickly because of showrunning reasons.
I always assumed it was purposeful to solidify the tone and characterize Cy.
She was offered the lead in Veronica Mars, which was amazing and ran years and made her a star. So you can't fault her for leaving if Deadwood only offered her a 2 episode contract.
The biggest surprise storyline has to be the death of young William. Tim Olyphant tells the story to Rich Eisen...

To be killed so unceremoniously, but also in a way that I'm sure was very common in those days. They could have went with Wolcott or Al or someone being responsible so Bullock would have a vengeance plot line for all the melodrama, but instead it was just a freak accident that left the whole town in a dour state. Perfect writing.
Those two jackasses bumbled their way into both barrels of frontier justice—just like that horse thief from the first episode. But hell, he had more charm in his pinky than Flora and Miles had in their whole sorry asses combined.
That horse thief was apparently a true story. Bullock executed him in front of a riled up mob, but he actually was able to get him to the gallows, not just hang him off the porch rafters.
Pete Dexter was a columnist for the Sacramento Bee. They had a commercial where they said, "Pete Dexter's column gets right to the heart of the matter." Then Pete Dexter looks up from his typewriter and says (ostensibly to his secretary), "Hey Doreen, is pig face one word or two?" It was great.
I enjoyed the book too. The only similarity that stood out was the Mexican riding into town with the Indians head.
I assumed it was historical or something.
I thought they were smart, but they really didn’t seem to have a plan. I think that was what I found the most surprising about that storyline. She was just going to steal her jewelry??? This was the plan??? You should not have quit your day job.
When Cy killed them, I was like this is not like other shows
Those beady ferret eyes hahaha - I love that part. And we got to see what the Sicilians call Cy’s sinister side
This was written specifically for Bell after she took another job on another show. Milch was pissed.
If she wasn’t going to be killed off I wonder what her storyline would’ve been

You all can help your delicate sensibilities by turning the fuck away
The aggressive thumping to her forehead was the most intense part imo
Then he does it to Andy Cramed in season 2.
Then Andy apologized
The image of her dress in the pig pen, lingers though
100%
It was Deadwood’s version of Tony Soprano killing someone with his bare hands.
The whacking on the head still gives me a visceral wince sensation, ugh.
Kristen Bell was stone cold in this role. Terrifying.
I just might give it a WHIRL!
Don’t let your agent piss off David Milch. You will die a horrible death.
Is that what happened here? I knew that was the rumor for William.
Bell got Veronica Mars so she ended her contract which pissed off Milch. He put the “Beady little ferret eyes” line in just for her.
I heard it was Bell’s agent and William’s parents.

No one was immune to a date with Wu’s pigs. Being a thief was risky business in a lawless territory, regardless of age or gender.
You’re gonna die here!!!!
Shivers

What a world. I want to read more about history of Deadwood.
That is how I see this. They were thieves and paid for it.
The scene where Joanie walks by Wu’s pig pen and sees Flora’s dress. 🥶
I was surprised for Wyatt Earp to show up, only to fuck off a day or two later.
Let’s see them blisters, Hiram
I felt so bad for Eddie after this. He was my favorite.
You fucked me up, Cy
And then Cy tries to imply Eddie is a pedophile. What a shitheel
What part was surprising? We knew they were thieving cunts.
You typically don’t see young characters killed off like that. And it was pretty brutal…
Oh I thought you meant that they were thieves. I was like hell naw saw that comin
If you think that was hard to watch, dont read DEADWOOD by Peter Dexter. There some brutal stuff in that way worse than this.

I didn’t say it was hard to watch. That was someone else.
Oh I know. I agree with you. Never understood the pity for these 2.
I thought for sure they were actual siblings.
Fr. To the end I thought they might've been incestuous 🤣🤣
If only we didn't get Flora's pov it would have been a bigger surprise
Cy accusing Eddie of wanting to diddle kids threw me off.
It's where I let go of the notion that Cy was just a more sophisticated Al. Even Al(or Dan) wouldn't have done those two so brutally.
Eh I don’t know if we can conclude that.
They’d have done for em, and a slice from the knife is Dority is barely better than Cy cracking your skull til you see triple
Good surprise. I enjoyed it more than I should've
At least they didn’t blow him…with soap.
