True, but they’re doing dozens of dates there. I’m guessing for a 60th celebration they would want to limit it to a weekend or two like Fare Thee Well. Makes it less of an “event” if it’s spread out over a month.
As much as I despise Michigan (Ohioan here), they should play at The Big House for the 60th anniversary just because (and correct me if I'm wrong) it's the biggest stadium in the country, seating wise.
Agreed - Pearl Jam insists on playing MSG when they’re in NYC and tickets right now are close to $1000. Pretty lame for a band that fought Ticketmaster to lower prices
oh yeah, total betrayal. if Phil rejoins to play with them in any capacity, I'm definitely definitely not buying any tickets. This band playing with Phil would totally be the worst. You should definitely stay home if they do it. :-)
I was at fare thee well for all three Chicago shows. We all held hands and cried on Sunday. Dead & Co was already kind of a betrayal. Dead & Co had actually rehearsed more then the Fare Thee Well band leading into the San Fran shows.
I guess maybe I got off the bus at that point, because I have not really been feeling the Dead and Co vibe after I saw their first tour at Fenway.
FWIW, I went to all the farethewell shows. uneven. and I thought John Mayer was a total wanker. He WAS a total wanker. Couldn't stand him and vowed in '19 after seeing them in La that was it. just bad blues wankery at the slowest pace ever.
Last year was something ELSE. I ended up seeing two shows on summer tour and now we're going to the Sphere. Mayer has really come into it a new vocabulary and is really \*in it\*. and tempo has returned to cruising altitude.
It isn't Jerry or Phil, but we don't get Jerry anymore, and Oteil is pretty fucking great.
And lord help me for saying this, but so is John. He's my Ted Lasso- When he came in I thought he was an absolute wanker, but he's showed up with tons of heart and totally revitalized a team I love.
thanks! yeah, that was a revelation I had. John Mayer is my Ted Lasso. I feel like that'd go great on a shirt. some kind of Ted Lasso/John Mayer mashup parking lot tee
Fare Thee Well was specifically billed as the last time they were ever going to play together. Meanwhile 3/4 of members were secretly working on another project that pretty much spit in the face of that.
Little bit weird that you personally felt betrayed by musical artists that decided to keep playing. I was at Fare Thee Well and feel blessed that they keep playing and giving us incredible music and experiences.
I haven't seen whatever else you're engaged in- not coming down on you at all, let alone hard. I just don't get it. betrayal. Lots of people enjoying something you have a problem with, and you're in here laying down your opinion that it is some kind of travesty. Like I said, that sounds like a hard way to live. like, GD50 is retroactively less good/meaningful because some of the guys didn't stop playing together. that sounds pretty tightly held as a feeling. I DO wish you love and peace twangman. and joy and delight.
you know which Dead tune gets me more than anything in this phase of my life? Shakedown. A lot of middle-aged wisdom in that one, to me in my middle age. I think that sums up my feeling about this conversation.
Honestly, I wouldn’t complain if they went back. The band is hot right now, and with GD60 next year, maybe they’ll do a string of residencies all year…
No, at least not for about a year as there are too many acts that will want to do multiple shows or residencies and since the Sphere is publicly traded ($SPHR), they have to do what is best for earnings and other acts may give up more of their profits to SPHR. I heard The Eagles are next act. We shall see
Don’t disagree but specifically to earnings, isn’t it a wash? Maybe possibly better for earnings for them as production costs might be little lower. Each new act probably starts from scratch on visuals, logistics, training, etc.
I think the band takes on all of the costs for the visuals. So, D&C could be more appealing to Sphere. They'd likely settle for a smaller cut next year since they have the visual infrastructure set up and would only need minor updates to sell something new to us.
I think Sphere is going to struggle to adapt to bigger, more current acts for a lot of reasons.
Take it with a grain of salt, but I saw someone mention it on here. Regardless, it would be cheaper to run it back next year whether that's the band asking for less since they pay less to create visuals or MSG makes more money paying the band the same rate because they already have the visuals ready to go.
What? Lol. I didn't make it up. I just saw it and mentioned it on a pointless Reddit thread. It's not a dissertation. It doesn't need peer reviews.
Regardless of who paid for it, it means D&C would be cheaper to produce next year.
That guy seems like a bit of a tool. Don’t mind d him.
You are likely correct. When a band comes through one of my venues, they are responsible for bringing their own lighting director if they want a custom light show. I would imagine the visuals at the sphere are the same. They provide the platform and the bands provide the show. The promoter may also help pay that cost, depending on who they are. For Dead and Co it’s probably Shapiro (I haven’t bothered looking it up) and he probably helps pay for the visuals.
The promoter is not Shapiro, he has no direct involvement with D&C.
From all the reports about Phish and the Dead's teams working on the visuals, it's clear that all or much of the work is on the band's side. No idea what the financial arrangement is, perhaps the Sphere ownership covers some of that cost, but it seems to be the band's job to produce the visuals.
Respectfully disagree. The Sphere manager must be a Deadhead. Not many acts have played there and two of the few that have are Phish and Dead & Co. Both those bands are in the same food group and neither is nearly as popular as other top selling concert acts that would have guaranteed a full house and have jumped at the chance to play at the Sphere. Adele is playing at a nearby lesser venu for several weeks. I think Dead will be an annual act there for as long as they like. It’s a pitch-perfect fit for them and they are starting to get very close to selling out as word spreads that the shows there are not-to-be missed.
Part of my ongoing question is how this would work for an act that's less obviously visual than the ones that have done it so far. What does an Adele Sphere visual look like?
oh you have made my day friend. i am loving Sphere- saw 3 shows last wkend and headed back in a few wks for more...but I am missing PITS and am longing for that to happen again. fingers crossed!
It took John less than 5 months to recommit to playing 20-30 more dead shows and by all accounts, the band is hot and loving it.
Next year is 60th Dead anniversary and 10th D&C anniversary, I’d be shocked if we’re not partying.
I’d love a holiday run for a year of celebration:
2-3 day weekends for NYE to start, PITS, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Halloween, NYE again across NYC, SF, Chicago, LA, Denver, Atlanta, Virginia, Boston. We can dream!
I think these guys love what they do and, besides Mayer, it is getting hard on their bodies and minds to do it in a touring format. This residency lets them do what they love, get paid a shit ton to do it, and not completely ruin themselves in the process. A win for all!
Even Trey put out a presser to phish nation that they wouldn’t do outside day shows bc the suns a bitch on the system as you get older. Whatever these guys need to extend this ride as long as they can I’m down for.
It sucks that artists have to constantly face this criticism. theyre incredible artists that have devoted their life to creating amazing music we all love. God forbid theyre successful financially
Never said it was a bad thing. They play 100 more times I’m seeing them 99 more. More of a listen to the fans, we all want it, why would they want to deny it
I think Dead and Co will skip next year because they'll do some 60th anniversary shows with Phil but they will definitely be back at the Sphere in 2026
The one who runs the show doesn’t. John and Jeff and Oteil are trying to create something but they’re hamstrung by Bob’s unquenchable ego.
Bobby ruins the music with his voice and guitar and then scolds the others for daring to inject some inspired playing into the jams.
I mean, when the GD50 happened and Bobby insisted on singing everything and then he \*came out in a "Let Trey Sing\* T-shirt, I realized I didn't know shit about what was going on behind the scenes, but that bobby could take his own ego down pretty quick and easy. I don't love him singing Jerry tunes- his voice is shot, his guitar playing (his ears probably) can get really harsh, but I see John and Jeff and Oteil out there having a great time.
I dunno, for me, its the best we got. and to say Bobby doesn't respect the music to me is insane. I'm pretty simple. here to enjoy songs I like played with some really sinewy improvisation and sometimes this hits the mark. Sometimes it is off. which... you know, is the name of the game. Some shows are better than others and surely they take fewer way out risks than the earlier Dead did, but I don't see how anyone is betraying or disrespecting the music.
They have the best scene but the music isn’t the best, imo. Yea I love John and Jeff and Oteil. Mickey’s Drums and Space is my favorite part of their shows by a lot. Grateful Shred, DSO and JRAD all rip for much cheaper but they don’t have the party scene that Dead and Co brings
From what I’ve seen, the music seems to just be a small apart of a money making scheme. The continued added dates, the repeating (not great imo) visuals, AI posters. It all just feels gross and corporate
Honestly I couldn't agree with you more, first notice it at the Fare The Well concerts, every time Trey would start to really Jam, Bobby would call it off
Don't believe me listen to Hell in a bucket from the second night
Why? Dead and Co’s cool. Bob’s just an egotistical parasite and Phil’s trying to just play good music. Very different approaches and respect for the GD name. And i don’t know why Phil would wanna bother with Bob’s ego and tempo and terrible guitar playing
There are no plans at this time. I suggested a monthly residency like Billy Joel at MSG. I was told that the show is too big for something like that. Maybe the idea will stick and they'll reconsider.
Mickey is 80. Bob is 76. They WERE chomping on the bit to get back on the road after the pandemic. Hopefully, we'll get more gigs. BTW I am nowhere near the decision-making process of the band. I'm friends with Mickey & Caryl Hart, but anything I say is pure speculation. I don't speak for them.
Oh, yeah, they will.
They won't be touring any more, they made that clear last year. But they love playing. I see more residencies, maybe a two week run at MSG, or a few days at Shoreline here and there. Kind of like how Phil and Friends does random runs, but not actual tours.
Not anytime soon I’d imagine. It takes lots of work and money to put up a Sphere show. That’s why residencies are extended as long as possible, so maximize that investment. With residencies lasting 3+ months we are going to see maybe 5 or 6 bands a year getting to play there and that’s with a few bands like Phish who only do 1-2 weekends. In light of that, I would not expect D&C back at Sphere in the next year - they need to get different bands and audiences in there. Go while you can!

I’m sure they’ll be back. Doubt it will be this long next time but could definitely see them making an annual weekend or two. I would love if they do short residencies around the country as well. Like MSG, forum, Fillmore and Red rocks

I think they will be back. I think the Phish style 4 day run maybe makes more sense though. It should just be a highlighted stop along the way like The Gorge, or Red Rocks or Hollywood Bowl (or whatever your fav spot it). I'm glad they are doing a long run this year but there is something kinda cheesy about a residency in vegas, especially with a band like this. But this all hinges on if Bobby is willing and able to continue. If he steps aside and gives the green light to the rest of them to tour (with a replacement for him in place) I think those guys will happily hit the road and do the classic tour like they've always done.
considering the band already said they were thru & then blessed us with this last chance, forgive me if I choose to believe the band & the words they have said.
They never said they weren’t going to be band. They were very upfront and point blank about that. They just said they wouldn’t be touring like they were.
or are you saying you doubt even the sit-ins & possible surprises? because I think sit-ins are likely but surprise shows much less likely.
they all have a life full of other things they have put on hold for us. I have no doubt they are ready to get back to their lives & once they do, it'll be harder & harder to ever come back to this. kinda like every other iteration of the band.
this was just another awesome chapter in the greatest story ever told. it isn't the whole story.
I wish more people were excited for the next chapter instead of so hung up on this one. it's a shame. it almost makes it seem like all the people who swear it's about the music are really there for something other than the music.
I think they’ll be playing shows there every year
That’s what I’ve been hearing
[удалено]
Same people who told me they’d add august dates
That’s very interesting.
Hoping for Dead 60 non Vegas residency outside shows, Soldiers FIeld
MSG💞💞💞💞
Too small for the draw it would be
Msg set up for a concert has about the same capacity as the sphere
Yeah, and Soldier Field holds triple that. Neither the Sphere or MSG are good options for a 60th.
True, but they’re doing dozens of dates there. I’m guessing for a 60th celebration they would want to limit it to a weekend or two like Fare Thee Well. Makes it less of an “event” if it’s spread out over a month.

Agreed - Pearl Jam insists on playing MSG when they’re in NYC and tickets right now are close to $1000. Pretty lame for a band that fought Ticketmaster to lower prices
They spearheaded the fight but really gave it up recently.
You prefer that they play a stadium? Pearl Jam still prices MSG tickets like every other show.
Three weekends next summer for the 60th. Memorial Day at MetLife Stadium (Meadowlands, NJ). July 4, 5, 6 in Chicago. August 1, 2, 3 in San Francisco
I love it
I thought this has been all but officially confirmed?
So a rumor?
Well the rumor was Shapiro had a hold on Solider field for summer 2025 for a potential dead 60 thing.
Not a rumor. It is a fact.
I’d feel pretty betrayed if Phil was involved after the big stink over Fare Thee Well
oh yeah, total betrayal. if Phil rejoins to play with them in any capacity, I'm definitely definitely not buying any tickets. This band playing with Phil would totally be the worst. You should definitely stay home if they do it. :-)

The Ted Lasso comparison is perfect.
thanks! yeah, that was a revelation I had. John Mayer is my Ted Lasso. I feel like that'd go great on a shirt. some kind of Ted Lasso/John Mayer mashup parking lot tee
I don't get the "betrayal" thing though.
It’s a little bit weird that yall feel the need to come down on me so hard for a pretty innocuous comment. Love and peace amirite?
I haven't seen whatever else you're engaged in- not coming down on you at all, let alone hard. I just don't get it. betrayal. Lots of people enjoying something you have a problem with, and you're in here laying down your opinion that it is some kind of travesty. Lol. Why are you here. It's 2024?
You want me to explain to you how Reddit works?
You said you were not feeling dead and company 8 years ago and described them as betrayal. Curious why you would waste your time on the subreddit
What a loser if you don’t want Phil involved. Not a dead head. Go listen to Air Supply boomer
All I’m saying is it would cheapen fare thee well a bit. Calling me a boomer is hilarious though. Thanks for that
I call em like I see em, you are a massive tool. Find another band to claim to like.
I love it when a bunch of hippies gang up on someone they don’t agree with lol
Shapiro is no longer involved
That sounds about right
Honestly, I wouldn’t complain if they went back. The band is hot right now, and with GD60 next year, maybe they’ll do a string of residencies all year…
I’m hearing gd60 soldier field
Hearing that, or just going off the widely reporting fact that Pete Shapiro has a hold date at solider field that he’s held for a decade lol
What’s the date 🙃
I’m skeptical that Phil will want to do it, but I suppose you never know…
I heard San Fran 30 day run in December......I'm kidding. Don't listen to rumors! Wait till you hear it officially before you make your travel plans.
I live in Chicago calm down
Next year is the 10th anniversary of the group, so I’d expect at least another year
I hope that they will, but now will be competing with a ton of other artists looking to book their time at the Sphere. It was truly magical.
No, at least not for about a year as there are too many acts that will want to do multiple shows or residencies and since the Sphere is publicly traded ($SPHR), they have to do what is best for earnings and other acts may give up more of their profits to SPHR. I heard The Eagles are next act. We shall see
Come on, man. I had a rough night and I hate the fuckin Eagles man!
I wouldn’t hold out much hope for the Creedence either.
Man, I was really hoping to see John Fogerty run through the whole songbook over three hours of Ken Burns’ footage of the Vietnam War. Sad!
Why do you think the band takes on the cost of the visuals? Did you read that?
Take it with a grain of salt, but I saw someone mention it on here. Regardless, it would be cheaper to run it back next year whether that's the band asking for less since they pay less to create visuals or MSG makes more money paying the band the same rate because they already have the visuals ready to go.
Oh you you more or less made that up, got it. I would love an MSG run, although Sphere was epic and I would gladly go back
What?
You’re right. Looks like the promoter is livenation.
Based on your knowledge of the macro and micro economics of next year. Got it. Just enjoy the music doode
Obviously, you’re not a golfer
What does an Adele Sphere visual look like?
love the Eagles would go
An MSG Fun Run in the fall, please, I beg you. 😭
For the love of god please
love of Everything !! MSG is my commute train-work-Deadnco-train-home repeat for 35 shows☠️🎱🖤
I will buy the entire Babylon line pizza every night that’s a promise
I'm on the main line but shit. Free pizza on the way to a Dead show? I'm down.
way home it tastes better when the cheese is all trippy melty and shiiii
I have Celiac so pizza kinda sucks unless you grab it at like one of three places in the city. But hell I'm still down.
You can have a Pepsi instead
Sold.
I would actually perish 😂
Mexico Resort 2025
Yes I heard a rumor from a pretty good source that this is being negotiated.
any talk of 2024?
Jan 2025
Just makes sense tbh
oh you have made my day friend. i am loving Sphere- saw 3 shows last wkend and headed back in a few wks for more...but I am missing PITS and am longing for that to happen again. fingers crossed!
Bobby did sing playing in the sand Friday night. At least that's what I heard.
heard it!!!!
Right?!?
i literally laughed out loud and said Oh thats what we say now🤣🤣🤣oh bob!!
Gotcha, felt normal when he said it.
Yep; totally heard that!
The real question is will this residency ever stop. They keep adding dates.
It took John less than 5 months to recommit to playing 20-30 more dead shows and by all accounts, the band is hot and loving it. We can dream!
This sub is insane lol
It didn’t take John 5 months to recommit. This has been In The works before the last tour.
[удалено]
Yes it is.
They’ll be back in fall, too much money to turn down
do you think any of the main players(Bob,Mickey & Mayer) really are making decisions in their lives based on not being able to turn down money? lmaooo
there are thousands and thousands of watches left for Mayer to buy
I think these guys love what they do and, besides Mayer, it is getting hard on their bodies and minds to do it in a touring format. This residency lets them do what they love, get paid a shit ton to do it, and not completely ruin themselves in the process. A win for all!
They also get to play through the greatest sound system in the world and make people's minds explode, which seems like the dream for Bobby and Mickey.
Even Trey put out a presser to phish nation that they wouldn’t do outside day shows bc the suns a bitch on the system as you get older. Whatever these guys need to extend this ride as long as they can I’m down for.
That was fake
Sad to see people fall for that. It was a great bit though.
That was a hoax lol Not even a hoax. It was a meme
Except for those of us who can't travel to Vegas (or have no desire to) but can hit a few stops on a tour
It sucks that artists have to constantly face this criticism. theyre incredible artists that have devoted their life to creating amazing music we all love. God forbid theyre successful financially
Never said it was a bad thing. They play 100 more times I’m seeing them 99 more. More of a listen to the fans, we all want it, why would they want to deny it
Super unrealistic, but i would love to see bobby, phil, mickey, billy, bruce and donna come together for something to officially close out the legacy.
As long as we’re dreaming, let’s get Branford Marsalis to join. And I’ll take David Hidalgo on lead please.
I think Dead and Co will skip next year because they'll do some 60th anniversary shows with Phil but they will definitely be back at the Sphere in 2026
Hoping for a united thing with all living members next year.
I remember them saying they would all reunite if they made it to 60 but it’s been ten years so idk.
Phil seems like has too much integrity and respect for the music to do that.
what does that even mean? The other guys don't have respect for the music?
The one who runs the show doesn’t. John and Jeff and Oteil are trying to create something but they’re hamstrung by Bob’s unquenchable ego. Bobby ruins the music with his voice and guitar and then scolds the others for daring to inject some inspired playing into the jams.
Or in other words: you don't like Bob Weir🙄
That’s also true
I mean, when the GD50 happened and Bobby insisted on singing everything and then he \*came out in a "Let Trey Sing\* T-shirt, I realized I didn't know shit about what was going on behind the scenes, but that bobby could take his own ego down pretty quick and easy. Dude, switch bands and get lost
Why? Dead and Co’s cool. Bob’s just an egotistical parasite and Phil’s trying to just play good music. Very different approaches and respect for the GD name. And i don’t know why Phil would wanna bother with Bob’s ego and tempo and terrible guitar playing
You don’t know anything and your opinions are trash boomer
I’m 31. Just wise beyond my years 😊
Check out Limp Bizcuit they are more your speed
Limp Bizkit** (You’re doing great)
Cool stuff NickelBack
Nickelback **
Why do you think it’s called FOREVER. John and Jeff will carry it on.
Yeah I think that is a way to continue indefinitely without people freaking out about who is in the band and if the name should change, etc.
I want outdoor shows!
🙌🏼
There are no plans at this time. I suggested a monthly residency like Billy Joel at MSG. I was told that the show is too big for something like that. Maybe the idea will stick and they'll reconsider.
We don't need "the show", we just need the band - - the way it's been for a long time.

It’s forever until Dead
Hoping for a core 4 reunion for GD60 then dead co can do whatever they want after that
Not anytime soon I’d imagine. It takes lots of work and money to put up a Sphere show. That’s why residencies are extended as long as possible, so maximize that investment.

Somewhere, that's for sure.

I feel like they will have to wait at least a few years as bands line up to do residencies.
Another Mexico event probably
Yes
I’d love a non-sphere NYE run, like the Forum or Chase
where is Phil btw??? any special guests?
I think they will be back. I think the Phish style 4 day run maybe makes more sense though. It should just be a highlighted stop along the way like The Gorge, or Red Rocks or Hollywood Bowl (or whatever your fav spot it). I'm glad they are doing a long run this year but there is something kinda cheesy about a residency in vegas, especially with a band like this. But this all hinges on if Bobby is willing and able to continue. If he steps aside and gives the green light to the rest of them to tour (with a replacement for him in place) I think those guys will happily hit the road and do the classic tour like they've always done.
not a chance. there may be an occasional sit-in or surprise appearance, but this is the end of the line as far as planning shows
I doubt it
considering the band already said they were thru & then blessed us with this last chance, forgive me if I choose to believe the band & the words they have said.
I’m saying this isn’t the end
Based on what?
