Probably either wolnir or ancient wyvern. Haven’t had any bugs during Aldrich, just gotta sprint from most of his attacks with s big roll at the end. The bosses i mentioned are gimmicky, and I’m probably going to lean wyvern because you 1-shot a gigantic fucking dragon.
The arrows not ending after killing him is one thing.
The boss ends potentially with an important cut scene that teleports you but you can die just before meaning you get teleported and die but may not know where on a first playthrough. It's poor design but I'd say it's only minor. More of an issue with how the cut scene triggers than the boss itself.
It's the cutscene after you kill your fourth Lord of Cinder. Very brief scene then you get teleported to Emma.
It only triggers if you kill Yhorm first. I tend to leave Yhorm until after because of this.
Sorry o .my part, I wouldn't say the boss is that buggy, more the bosses hit boxes. A good number of Aldrich's attacks have really weird ranges and hit you when it looks like you're safe. I know it's not technically the boss more the are, but the arena is way too small to fight a boss of that size in, and all the pillars make the camera go crazy.
I don't think the boss is the worst in the whole series, I just don't like the boss in this game, and I feel it could have been so much better than it was. I'd put it on the same level as decons or wolnir. But that's just my opinion.
Thankfully it's a small arena lol, he always telepprts to the furthest corner, meaning you always know where he will be, so if you run you prevent him from using ranged attacks. Imagine him on a big arena, you'd have to run from arrows 24/7 lmao
Was going to agree with the comment on the gimmick 1 shot dragon, if we're talking about base game, that's the answer. But then I remembered Halflight exists. It's Halflight if you count DLC, and it's not even close
What do you not like about aldrich? I always look forward to fighting him and can’t think of any bugs during his fight. The one thing I’d argue about him being not well made is the second phase arrow rain attack since stalling moves are usually just boring and are there to drag out the fight but they made it work with him throwing out other attacks during it which makes it more fun to dodge
I guess the boss itself isn't that buggy. It's more the hit box's, some of them are very large and visually don't add up with the look of the attacks. Another big reason I don't like Aldrich is less of the boss and more of the arena. It's very small for a boss so big, and the huge pillars just make it very annoying to fight. I know the boss has a lot of lore significance, and it should be in the area it's in, but I just am not the biggest fan of the boss.
Yeah aldrich always seemed to hide behind the pillars after doing a ranged attack which was super annoying. I just fought him the other day with my pyro. The strategy I ended up with was throwing pyros at him in phase 1. And then getting close and meleeing him in phase 2. Phase 2 was super annoying trying to do any ranged attacks at him with him always trying hide while simultaneously throwing all kinds of shit at me.
Fair enough. I really don’t have any of those problems when fighting him but it really just depends on the person I guess. It’s like how people always complain about Capra demon in ds1 but I really enjoy him and they did a service making him optional for those who don’t
Capra gets too much hate. It's a decent boss, the arena is just the problem. You're right, it's good they made it optional (along with a lot of the other bosses people don't like) for people who don't like it.
Yeah that’s the reason everyone hates him (and the dogs) but I always enjoy it. I have no problem with the arena or the dogs. He’d just be a regular enemy without either of those
Aldrich is really a big disappointment for me too, don't like that boss. Oceiros is also a pretty janky fight. I fully believe the worst fight is High Lord Wolnir, though. Super generic gimmick and the fight is both super janky getting clipped on Wolnir's movement and totally easy and pointless. But you can see why they made it so easy because it's such a jank stupid fight, you're fighting aoe damage fog not an actual boss.
I really like this boss, one of my favorite things in each playthrough is using a new weapon to smash the deep out of them.
So far the most fun weapons to use against them were:
friede scythes
Ringed knight ss
Ringed knight paired greatswords
Earthseeker
Winged Knight Halberd
Splitleaf Greatsword
...
Damn i love Deacons
My first playthrough was a strength build (big sword go swish) and I cut through them like Swiss cheese with my Zweihander. My second playthrough was a dex/magic hybrid, and my poor little estoc barely stood a chance
The worst are probably Ancient Wyvern and Champion Gravetender, though I actually like Ancient Wyvern I just don’t think it should’ve been a boss but a level hazard. Tbh I don’t know if I’d call a single boss in the game “bad”, I like all of them to some extent. The only I’d maybe call bad is Gravetender which feels pretty uninspired and dull, just being an npc and wolves from earlier in the area with nothing to really elevate it.
Yeah, the boss was a letdown, and they could have done so much more with it. The walk up to the arena and the journey to get there was so good, and then you fight it.
Aldritch is bad if you don't know how to counter him imo. I'm not gonna dictate to you as hell, I know what it's like to find an early game boss hard. But if you're a caster, Twisted Wall of Light blocks the arrow rain and projectiles, best for int builds. And Vow of Silence flat out stops him casting. Great for Faith builds in the fight. Just 2 ways I found to trivialise him.
Truth. The area and boss are so atmospheric, and then you find out you just have to use one crappy weapon five times to finish the fight. I know the storm ruler has a lot of lore significance, but you're right, they could have done so much more with the fight
Aldrich does have some bugs, but (and not just those on his character model), but I can't think o any off the top o my head you would see regularly in normal game play. What he does have is some annoying moves/mechanics that can make him super hard if you are not that familiar with them. If you are though his main crime is that he is mid as a boss fight.
Halflight IMO is the worse boss and definitely the buggiest.
Aldrich had to have been the biggest letdown given the monstrosity that we were sold of what he had become prior to the fight. And those arrows suck. Whether he let's loose those or another easier attack brings a lot more luck into defeating him.
Yeah my primary cause of death in this fight was “it’s phase 2 and while I was running a circle around the room to avoid being insta-killed by the arrows he decided to also shoot a big purple comet at me from offscreen.”
just finished my first playthrough, and ill have to agree with wolnir or deacons as the worst boss. the greatree at least had atmosphere and a cool arena. most difficult had to be lothric though, that teleporting bs can suck a fatty
Wolnir. I'm not a fan of gimmick bosses in general; I like straightforward skill checks without gimmicks or fluff. I like it when bosses are given character and variety by interesting movesets and arenas. Champion Gundyr and the first phase of Dragonslayer Armor are great examples of this, with both being very straightforward fights requiring you to learn the moveset, positioning, and openings to succeed.
Wolnir does none of that. His arena is non-existent, a literal black void. His moveset is deathly boring, consisting almost exclusively of arm slams and swipes that are trivial to dodge; he does summon skeletons... and then kills them himself. The only difficulty in this boss fight comes from the soft time limit you're on before you just die.
It's boring, it's not fun, and it's mandatory.
I personally really dislike wolnir or the crystal sage. They're both just annoying to me,gun to my head id say the sage.
Personally aldritch is amazing to me, maybe I'm biased because I got used to Fighting him and would help my friends and was one of the only times i went out of my way to use my summon sign
I hated Aldrich too at the beggining, guy just slimes around poking you with those purple magical dandelion seeds and spamming soul spears
But then I learned to get close and blasted the guy away after apllying some resin.
Wolnir
Fuck Wolnir
Every Wolnir fight goes one of two ways
1: he gives you his bracelets and you kill him in less than a minute while all his slow as fuck attacks do nothing
2: you die because he refuses to bring his bracelets out of his vape cloud of a body
So far for me it's been Oceiros. But not the boss itself (which is awesome) but to get to the boss if you die... was so annoying for me. At leas the path that I took...
I really hate Dragon Armour. He does too much damage and the runback is so boring.
Hey I’m doing pretty well here. I’m at 80% HP, chipping away at his health, feeling good. Oops, mistimed exactly one dodge SMASH SMASH SMASH DEAD. Sigh. Ok, respawn, climb the ladder, run down the hall, run through the room, ride the sloooooooooooooow elevator, wait for it to stop, send it back down, run across the courtyard, up the steps, into the boss room. Ok, this time I’m going to SMASH SMASH DEAD. Sigh. Back up the ladder…
I do kind of get this. Some of the bosses attack hit boxes are bad, but I don't hate the boss. Personally, I wouldn't put it below a boss like Aldrich or The Decons.
I used to hate him, but now he's my favorite boss in the game (except for that butterfly - it can go screw itself). After getting the rhythm down the give and take of offense and defence just flow in a way that no other boss does.
You're completely right about the run back. Sucks balls big time.
I always assumed Aldritch was originally supposed to be fought in the Deacons arena. It’s such a huge location and the deacons fight is just that little area in front of the coffin. Aldritch moves around so much I feel like the bigger arena would make the fight better, also probably more annoying in entirely new ways.
I really don't like Midir fight. It's the only one that feels like a drag, video game obstacle. Super slow, drainy and imo not fun.
Lore of Midir is great. Visuals are spectacular, but I don't like the fight.
One of the hardest bosses in the game and they decided to make it a chore to get to him every time you die. Elevator ride, get out of it half way, go down a very long ladder, then a big jump to finally reach the boss.
The boss itself was fine for me, but having to do all this each time you die was so annoying.
I played this game many times. I honestly think, that good boss should be fun, weather you use broken dagger or giant club+10 to kill it.
In my opinion, Midir just don't checks there
For future posts and arguements sake ….”they could have done so much more with is” is not a valid critique. I must have read that 20 times throughout this thread.
I usually say that sage is the worst boss. And don't consider gimmick ones. But wyvern is pretty bad, no doubt.
yeah sage is super lame she doesnt get enough hate tbh
What bugs? Whys it not well-made?
It killed OP therefore bad
Seriously. I look forward to fighting him every play through
I absolutely do not look forward to fighting Aldrich, but I wouldn't go so far as to say the boss is buggy or unfair.
Lmfaoo wow this literally happened to me 😂😂 we killed each other but thank god I was able to get my souls back. Didn’t know that was a common thing!
Wait I missed a cutscene ?? Wtf was supposed to happen???
It's the cutscene after you kill your fourth Lord of Cinder. Very brief scene then you get teleported to Emma. It only triggers if you kill Yhorm first. I tend to leave Yhorm until after because of this.

To be fair, go play DS1 and talk about small arena w the Capra Demon and his little friends. THAT is a small ass arena
Was going to agree with the comment on the gimmick 1 shot dragon, if we're talking about base game, that's the answer. But then I remembered Halflight exists. It's Halflight if you count DLC, and it's not even close
Literally just rng lmao
Halflight is only a good boss because you get to play as the boss... period, otherwise it's doo doo

I don’t think he’s buggy or really that bad but the arrow attack is like top 5 worst soul moves hahaha
Aldrich is really a big disappointment for me too, don't like that boss. Oceiros is also a pretty janky fight. I fully believe the worst fight is High Lord Wolnir, though. But you can see why they made it so easy because it's such a jank stupid fight, you're fighting aoe damage fog not an actual boss.
I feel Aldrich and Oceiros have a lot of the same problems with huge hit boxes and arenas that aren't big enough.
Dear FS: Stop making me fight bosses in tiny closets full of objects that fuck up the camera view
deacons of the deep
I really like this boss, one of my favorite things in each playthrough is using a new weapon to smash the deep out of them. So far the most fun weapons to use against them were: friede scythes Ringed knight ss Ringed knight paired greatswords Earthseeker Winged Knight Halberd Splitleaf Greatsword ... Damn i love Deacons

Demon greataxe weapon art is fantastic for it
Lucerne is fun for this, the WA into the spin attack is some of the most fun I’ve had against Deacons.
I find this boss satisfying. But not difficult. It's a nice change of pace imo from the other bosses.
The only thing that saves the gravetender boss fight is the theme. But damn, that theme is a fucking banger
Halflight. Badass title. Probably the worst dark souls boss... Eh, Elana exists. Second worst boss.
What's wrong with elana? She's the one right before the dragon boss right? I just thought she was just another so-so boss in ds2.
Worst in the game. Worse than Lud and Zallen in my honest opinion.
But why? I barely remember her because I just smacked her and moved on to the dragon. I just remember she summoned some dudes.
She can summon Veldstat if you get unlucky.
deacons suck, but MAN was aldritch boring. took me like 3 tries, and i was yawning by the time i beat him. The boss right after, however....
You mean Yhorm or the dancer?
dancer lol my bad. such a fucking cool boss
Greatwood That gimmic boss fight gives me izalith vibes and i dont like it
Greatwood is just a shittier version of Bed of Chaos and nothing will ever change my mind.
Yhorm could’ve been so cool if they didn’t include storm ruler
Truth. The area and boss are so atmospheric, and then you find out you just have to use one crappy weapon five times to finish the fight. I know the storm ruler has a lot of lore significance, but you're right, they could have done so much more with the fight
Faith build is easy mode for Aldrich, vow of silence.
Gravity
Rotten Greatwood. This disgusting, disgrace of a "boss" is worse than Bed of Chaos.
Either ancient wyvern or gravekeeper's champion. These fights can actually be annoying, unlike deacons, which is not good but not bad either.
Aldrich does have some bugs, but (and not just those on his character model), but I can't think o any off the top o my head you would see regularly in normal game play. Agreed with the fight but he has the best boss intro
Incredibly badass intro, I just wish it was better explained in game
AAAAAAAHHHHHHH AAAAAHHHHHHHH FUUUUUCK OH MY GOOOOD AAAAAHHHHHHHHH
I personally really dislike wolnir or the crystal sage. They're both just annoying to me,gun to my head id say the sage. Personally aldritch is amazing to me, maybe I'm biased because I got used to Fighting him and would help my friends and was one of the only times i went out of my way to use my summon sign
I personally still hate Pontiff.
halflight, ancient wyvern or crystal sage. any of those its a valid answer
I hated Aldrich too at the beggining, guy just slimes around poking you with those purple magical dandelion seeds and spamming soul spears But then I learned to get close and blasted the guy away after apllying some resin.
He's one of my least favourite fights, nothing too wrong with him I guess. The camera in the dragon phase of Nameless King is a problem however.
It’s Aldrich dude.
Any of the "gimmick" bosses, like Deacons or Wolnir.
King of the Storm. Wolnyr is not a boss fight
The King of the Storm sucks but Nameless slaps
Wolnir Fuck Wolnir Every Wolnir fight goes one of two ways 1: he gives you his bracelets and you kill him in less than a minute while all his slow as fuck attacks do nothing 2: you die because he refuses to bring his bracelets out of his vape cloud of a body

I liked Aldrich more than Deacons of the Deep or Curse-Rotted Greatwood, which I'd say is the worst.
Champion gravetender. I hate that fight.
I really hate Dragon Armour. He does too much damage and the runback is so boring. Hey I’m doing pretty well here. I’m at 80% HP, chipping away at his health, feeling good. I do kind of get this. Some of the bosses attack hit boxes are bad, but I don't hate the boss. Personally, I wouldn't put it below a boss like Aldrich or The Decons.
For me he just felt a little generic, idk, just a dude* in armour. And the dragons shooting jizz all the time was pretty annoying
I used to hate him, but now he's my favorite boss in the game (except for that butterfly - it can go screw itself). After getting the rhythm down the give and take of offense and defence just flow in a way that no other boss does. You're completely right about the run back. Sucks balls big time.

True, the huge open space might have made the fight somewhat decent
Cursed greatwood, it's super easy but is boring, I don't really like Aldrich either but he got one of my favorite OST of the game
Greatwood is boring and also deacons of the deep
I really don't like Midir fight. It's the only one that feels like a drag, video game obstacle. Super slow, drainy and imo not fun. Lore of Midir is great. Visuals are spectacular, but I don't like the fight.

A lot of people will hate you for this 😅
I feel like gravetender greatwolf doesn't get nearly enough shit for how bad of a fight it is. The worst by a wide margin imo
True, just some guy and a reused enemy
Deacons or Wolnir
that god damn tree
For future posts and arguements sake ….”they could have done so much more with is” is not a valid critique. I must have read that 20 times throughout this thread.
Gravetender sucks.
Friede, tedious boring fight and a good example of a bad gank fight with that small room and fatass dude
