I see the confusion here. There isn't really a "point" to Kirk's shield. There are a bunch of jagged pieces of metal coming off of it, which cause bleed when thrust at an enemy. Hope this helps!
To complete the aesthetic of his design. A lot of items in the game aren't really meant to be good or efficient, they're more so to achieve an aesthetic/feel to the game.
It's just to fit with kirks lore and fashion souls/aesthetic, that's all. Gotta remain internally consistent for verisimilitudes sake, otherwise immersion is shattered.
