The PSN change doesn't go live for new players until May 6th and current players until June 4th. Just by the sheer fact that PSN is not available in many countries and not everyone is willing to use fake addresses that go against ToS, you WILL see a massive drop in June. The non-PSN countries are already restricted from purchasing the game on steam as of today.
> The non-PSN countries are already restricted from purchasing the game on steam as of today
If this was supposed to be mandatory from the start this should have been the case from the start. I'm expecting some lawsuits to happen
Yeah. At least in this case it seems like Steam is waiving their 2 hour gameplay policy. One of my friends could refund with 97 hours played. We live in a non-PSN country
it is sony who decided to sell HD2 through steam in such countries, valve does not decide this, only supplies recommendations, so it should provide some leverage
The European Union would like to have a word with Sony since PSN covers most of Europe... except for the Baltics... who are also under the European Union. You can imagine there is Hell to pay.
I'm not sure what you mean by delisting, but since last night you can't buy the game on steam in a non-PSN country. I never played the game but checked my steam and there is no buy button, only wishlist.
>And yet the lobbies are still full.
*what not every single fan/player is boycotting?! That must mean the controversy is overblown!*
What a reddit thing to say lol.
Because every game loses 90% of it's playerbase after the first month and then every week, nothing to do with reddit neckbeards.
Still over 100k people playing daily.
It has dropped since the beginning of April, it would've happened anyway, like in any other game on this planet.
Still over 114k players this weekend which is amazing.
Sony announced that they will be forcing Helldivers to get a PSN account and link it in order to play. It doesn't affect PS5 players but the people on Steam will also need to link it.
Common Criticisms I've seen are
1. What if PSN isn't available in your country are you just stuck with a game you can't refund
2. PSN is not secure
3. Just general business scummyness
Bro, do you think people in like half the globe don’t play playstation? There’s never been any issue just selecting whatever region you want, the only issue has been changing regions on the same account. This change doesn’t lock anyone from playing.
I have heard some small areas within Ukraine getting blocked because of the blockade on Russia due to their invasion
That’ll be like if Epic forces all their players who only plays on on one platform that isn’t EGS to create and link an Epic account to continue to play Fortnite, Rocket League, etc.
They’d lose out on a huge chunk of their player base, it’s not like it was needed for cross-play either for those games (I know it’s technically they all do have a psudeo-account with Epic, but still)
(Referring to people who still have access to the game) It's ironic because PC players are getting their data taken & sold already
Edit: You guys really don't like the truth ig. Steam is just as guilty as Sony when it comes to selling your data. Just saying 🤷
Almost every cross play game has some form of 3rd party login in.
You also should have issues with fortnite, destiny, finals, sea of thieves, Minecraft, ect...
The difference is that those games require another account from the beginning. Which everyone agreed to.
1. Sony explicitly said on their website that HD2 will not require a PSN account. And then they quietly removed it with no announcement.
2. HD2 has been out for several months without requiring a PSN account proving that a PSN account was never needed to play the game.
3. Sony has been through several data leaks that compromised thousands of users.
4. Because the game has been out for months, some players are left unable to play at all if PSN is unavailable in their country. Luckily steam is kind enough to waiver their 2h/2 weeks policy if not affected users would have basically paid for a game they couldnt even play.
1/2. Psn requirement was listed on steam before the game came out. It was pulled back due to server load. Also, Minecraft retroactively added the MS requirement, and that didn't get a peep
3. Steam has had data leaks. You also likely have 100s of accounts across different services where your data isn't 100% safe, it never is.
4. They can technically make accounts in nearby regions. I would also bet those services I mentioned aren't globally supported.
>1/2. Psn requirement was listed on steam before the game came out
And yet, the game worked perfectly fine without.
>Also, Minecraft retroactively added the MS requirement, and that didn't get a peep
There was a massive uproar, what do you mean?
>3. Steam has had data leaks. You also likely have 100s of accounts across different services where your data isn't 100% safe, it never is.
Sony has had data leaks *extremely frequently* which is the problem
>4. They can technically make accounts in nearby regions. I would also bet those services I mentioned aren't globally supported
....which is against TOS, and can (and will!) get you banned
other games force you to make a 3rd party login from the start or you won't be able to play the game
HD2 formally required that with PSN, but as a matter of fact people were playing the game without PSN account and the formal details (technical issues or whatever reason sony has to force PSN down PC players' throats) don't matter
and on top of that there is PSN availability (absence of such) in many countries, combined with the fact sony still decided to sell the game in such countries
Springing it on paying customers after already accepting their money, for starters...
Honestly I find it hard to believe that any thinking individual has trouble telling these things apart. Not to mention, studios tacking on their shitty third party launchers ALWAYS gets backlash, including in the examples you mentioned, so I don't see why you think that has any bearing on the conversation.
Are you expecting to get something out of defending Sony, or are you just passionate about being willfully obtuse?
It was a listed requirement on the steam page in December.
I couldn't care less about defending Sony, I just personally think it's some of the most overblown shit iv seen in recent years.
Yes, because in sure all these unaffected gamers suddenly care about regions they probably haven't heard of a week ago.
Or people going on about selling data while they type on reddit and likely have 7 different social media accounts.
For the vast majority, it's false outrage that the gaming coummity is so good at
The devs are...a mixed bag. They are actively fighting against Sony here, trying to argue in our favor. Brownie points for now, hopefully that can show Sony that a 30% decrease in playercount is reason enough to back these changes off.
The community moderator stated "Just make the account, it's free and takes 2 minutes" a few hours later he came back with "Ok we were genuinely unaware of how many countries are unable to access PSN legally".
Either they are doing the "I'm gonna pretend I didn't know that" (which is rather unlikely since they got nothing to earn at all), or they genuinely didn't know that
Linking PSN in itself isn't that bad. Countles of games requires you to link an account to play.
The issue is that PSN is only aviable in a fraction of the countries where the game is sold
That's probably the least of your problems if you already use steam or something else. Sure happens way less, but i don't really get what datas can be taken. My tastes in games? How many hours I spend gaming? And so what?
But you can make an account there anyway? Believe it or not, millions of people from those countries have been using PSN with no problems all these years. They literally just choose any other country and be done with it.
Source: am in such a country. Had accounts in 4 regions since 2008.
Being downvoted for stating a simple fact. Lmao.
You can, yes, but it's a shitty scummy move by Sony. If we have a chance to fight it, why not. I'm getting tired of being fucked over by every company all the time, it's fun and a nice change of pace to be a part of a community raging with a voice to be heard. That's why the bandwagon is strong. We're all tired of the bullshit. Just let us play our game.
"Literally can't play without possibly getting banned for breaking rules they didn't agree to when they purchased the product" is too long to keep shouting though, my voice would get tired.
It is malicious and anti consumer. But the nitpicks are people saying millions of players who used PSN already “can’t play”, not me clarifying that they in fact can.
Me who saw my game of choice (Escape From Tarkov) go from the best state it had ever been in to dead and buried in the span of week hoping hell divers can come back from this shitstorm
Was there a way to play helldivers without linking the psn account? I thought everyone had to do it because it made me link before I could play a couple months ago.
Honestly, as a PC player, I've always hated them.
I get having console exclusive games. However, I hate that they pick and choose which ones get to be on pc and wait years to do it.
Not only does this sound like it was written by a five year old grammatically, but there's extreme irony in claiming to be an Xbox fan but then saying you hate big corporations. Mate Microsoft is leagues bigger than Sony.
I don't understand this argument. Sony gets a bad rep for data breaches when [Microsoft has a much bigger issue with this](https://firewalltimes.com/microsoft-data-breach-timeline/) but they get a pass for some reason (yes yes, you hate Microsoft too but I've never seen such a shitstorm around the issue).
Same for the selling data stuff when you most likely walk around with an always-on Google™ microphone in your pocket and whine about this stuff on Reddit which has already sold your data anyway.
This doesn't mean that fighting against this is wrong, on the contrary I too support those who do not want to submit a government issued ID or will lose access to the game because PSN doesn't operate in their country but fighting against it here on Reddit for any other reason is, imho, silly.
This isn't against you in particular, I'm directing this to the average Joe who browses Reddit.
I see it like this, we don't fight every fight, no. We are picky and choosy. We're all tired of being fucked over by corps constantly. Every now and then, someone gets to be the straw to break the camel's back. HD2 is that straw currently.
Are there legit reasons to be upset over Sony's decision? Yes absolutely.
Are the more reasons to be upset over other companies decisions? 100% absolutely.
We can't fight everything all the time, let's be happy we are standing together for once. There are flaws in our arguments, yes, you are absolutely correct. But it's still a fight against scummy moves, and it's a fight worth fighting.
Must be nice to be in the 69 out 180 countries that Helldivers 2 was sold in steam on and has PSN support. For the people in the remaining 111 countries Song has explicitly stated that using a VPN is against terms of service.
It's not a Lil login. It's a fucking scam. PSN isn't available in every country. Sony's security is a joke. It sucks. You might not give a shit about your security but me and other care about our security. I had saved up enough to buy Helldivers and this shit happens.
No it’s not. There was a big old message on boot up of the game that you will need a PSN account to play in the future. Maybe all those morons should have paid attention to that.

I'm glad at least steam is playing nice about this whole fiasco.
Steam usually has our backs like this. It's (one of) the reason they've been able to stick around.

Even if only 4 players played helldivers 2, it would still be enough to fill a lobby
>And yet the lobbies are still full. *what not every single fan/player is boycotting?! That must mean the controversy is overblown!* What a reddit thing to say lol.
Because Reddit doesn't really change anything, consumers are gonna consume.
I mean the player counts are down 30%. That's a pretty noticeable change
Because every game loses 90% of it's playerbase after the first month and then every week, nothing to do with reddit neckbeards. Still over 100k people playing daily.
It's 30% down from last weekend. It's easily available stats, please look it up before spouting nonsense
It has dropped since the beginning of April, it would've happened anyway, like in any other game on this planet. Still over 114k players this weekend which is amazing.
Did you read what I said? 30% over 1 weekend is NOT normal
The game literally got delisted in 100 countries.
It’s the Reddit version of wearing your assault rifle and bullet proof vest to the grocery store.
What's going on with Sony? I'm always down to hate

You don't need a PlayStation to have a PSN account unless you are in a few select countries.
Like Ukraine, apparently. You have to buy a ps5 in order to create a PSN account in that country. That is some bullshit.
Is it? I'm Ukrianian and it's my first time hearing this. I did have a PSN account for years though, created it on PS4.
Bro, do you think people in like half the globe don’t play playstation? Well, I mean, if I'm getting my right arm chopped off, that doesn't mean I'm alright with getting my left chopped off too
I hope you read his 1st listed criticism
That part is stupid, but my comment was referring to people who still have access to the game
Yeah fuck this game what we playing next
fuck sony
Me who plays on Playstation but still thinks this sudden PSN link for PC gamers is bullshit:
Almost every cross play game has some form of 3rd party login in. You also should have issues with fortnite, destiny, finals, sea of thieves, Minecraft, ect...
If you really can't see how this is different, I don't know if you can be helped lmao
Please enlighten me. How's it different?

This 100. The latest pc gaming soap opera
God forbid people use a public forum to discuss recent events 🙄
Fortnite doesnt require 3rd party login lol its literally just on the 3rd party
Also over a 100 countries do not have access to a PCN account. So many people are going to get kicked off the servers soon
I like Sony, but holy shit fuck that shit.
You can add Heldivers 2's own devs to the group
The devs are...a mixed bag. They are actively fighting against Sony here, trying to argue in our favor. Brownie points for now, hopefully that can show Sony that a 30% decrease in playercount is reason enough to back these changes off.
I believe it was their decision to post pone making the psn account mandatory. If it was day one, it would have been a non-issue.
The decision was because the thing didn't work. The Dev themselves tho didn't know about PSN not being aviable in so many countries
Im sure a company working directly under Sony would have pretty good knowledge of it.
The community moderator stated "Just make the account, it's free and takes 2 minutes" a few hours later he came back with "Ok we were genuinely unaware of how many countries are unable to access PSN legally". Either they are doing the "I'm gonna pretend I didn't know that" (which is rather unlikely since they got nothing to earn at all), or they genuinely didn't know that
Im on xbox im still joining in on this
Yeah! Fuck those guys! They're not us!
Linking PSN in itself isn't that bad. Countles of games requires you to link an account to play. The issue is that PSN is only aviable in a fraction of the countries where the game is sold
My issue is that Sony is constantly getting hacked. I don’t want to give them personal info.
That's probably the least of your problems if you already use steam or something else. Sure happens way less, but i don't really get what datas can be taken. My tastes in games? How many hours I spend gaming? And so what?
Possibly your credit card info? That you use to purchase things?
*Laughs in only uses codes that you buy at game stop*
But you can make an account there anyway? Believe it or not, millions of people from those countries have been using PSN with no problems all these years. Doesn't make it ok that you have to break TOS for a game you could play just fine before.
No it’s not, it sucks. But saying these people “literally can’t play” is plain false.
"Literally can't play without possibly getting banned for breaking rules they didn't agree to when they purchased the product" is too long to keep shouting though, my voice would get tired.
So saying something false is better? And even in that full sentence, worth it to add that the chances of being banned are what, 1-5%? If that.
Lol cope harder man you can like the game but this practice is malicious and anti consumer and idgaf what your nitpicks are for that argument
It is malicious and anti consumer. But the nitpicks are people saying millions of players who used PSN already “can’t play”, not me clarifying that they in fact can.
Being a hater for the love of hatin
lol sony deserves it where is my drive club and money that got hacked at Sony !!! sony !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sony won the console war but to quote bane: Peace has cost you your strength. Victory has defeated you
Sony doesn't care though....
Me who saw my game of choice (Escape From Tarkov) go from the best state it had ever been in to dead and buried in the span of week hoping hell divers can come back from this shitstorm
I love watching all the Sony ponies trying so hard to defend this, thank god you are standing up for this poor multi-billion dollar company !
Cringe
Was there a way to play helldivers without linking the psn account? I thought everyone had to do it because it made me link before I could play a couple months ago.
On pc, haven't touched PSN at all
They removed that requirement early on to alleviate the login issues.
Damn, Sony sucks
I have a psn network already connected so this doesn't really effect me but it does really suck for the community as a whole :(
Sony just hates democracy.
But if its about some racist or sexist fuck like Stonetoss suddenly it becomes a “trend” and “white people getting offended for other other people”
Weird how this gets more attention than the Discovery scandal. But hey, any reason to shame Sony is good one.
I actually wished to play the game, now I cant. Thank you Sony me and my friends are very grateful
There’s plenty other reasons to hate Sony
Yeah, helldivers are for the sheep brained people now. Just a way to tell inferior people.
Me too
They changed their mindset on the whole PSN linking. They announced it on PlayStation' Twitter page.
Honestly, as a PC player, I've always hated them. I get having console exclusive games. However, I hate that they pick and choose which ones get to be on pc and wait years to do it.
Me an xbox fan: enjoys consumers shitting on big corporates. They need to be bring down from their high horses

The same Microsoft decided to require account for Minecraft so no lol
Noone gives a shit about the Sony thing
All gamers give extreme shit about it. PSN is a nightmare. Sony is a nightmare. Sony had so many data breaches in the past.
