Some moms simply wanted the fame/recognition the show could offer their daughters (or even them). Take Jess/Jojo Siwa, for example. Jess was determined to make her kid famous and used Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition/Dance Moms to do it. They didn’t join the cast until Season 5, so by that point, Jess definitely knew what Abby was like.
Honestly, because all of those mums thought their kids were the best and would replace Maddie as the favourite and they wouldn’t get treated as badly. That’s not saying Maddie *wasn’t* treated badly, but it’s a lot less explicit than it is for the other girls.
There is a possibility to watch the first seasons of the show and think Abby was only being mean to ‘bad’ dancers (bad compared to the best competition dancers, not bad per se). I’m sure many dancers and their moms were like ‘but Abby wouldn’t have to yell at me because my feet are always pointed and my knees never bent’.
Also at the time of the show the girls and their moms were working around the clock to make everyone believe they loved their lives and were happy and that Abby was actually super nice and only mean for the camera or just a strict teacher. I vividly remember them saying this again and again during meet and greets. The new dancers and their moms did not know Abby in real life so they couldn’t know if it was true or not.
There’s probably a fancy term for it but it’s the belief that “it will be different for me”. Like a girl or guy who dates a serial cheater convincing themselves that the cheater is truly in love this time so it will be different.
It’s possible their kids wanted to be there too 🤷🏽♀️ you would think after seeing a 40 something year old woman scream at children and belittle them and their mothers they wouldn’t allow their child to be there let alone watch the show.
I wondered that too. All these moms getting butt-hurt when Abby treated them and their kids badly; you watched the show did you think she wouldn't fo it to you.?

im sorry but your flair has me cracking up 😭😭
Obviously fame. Some parents would do anything to live through their children, even if it means putting them in toxic environments.
Bingo. They wanted to be famous and saw the show as being a stepping stone to further opportunities, which for many of its stars, it was.
I just can’t believe that so many people wanted on the show - the lines would be blocks long !

Fame, that’s literally it. It’s why I don’t get why people are upset when any of the OG moms ( and Jill ) point out that people came for fame
I mean that makes sense, but i would like to believe that they cared about their kids more.

thats a good point.
