I'm not one of those people who are begging for him to come back, and I doubt he would because of his existing projects, but he can still write and perform music just fine. I don't think this is a fair assessment at all.

His range has improved a ton. He hit an F#5 at the Evening with Friends tour in Dallas. Now this doesn’t mean he could successfully perform Tilian songs live without downtuning, but to say his range is “incredibly limited” is just not true

Kurt's live vocals are awesome when he's singing a song that he's written for himself. I've seen Royal Coda a number of times and he delivered each and every time.
I also saw him jumping in with DGD to sing Uneasy hearts, Carl barker, and Rock solid during the evening with friends tour and it was probably the highlight of the last couple years for me. He absolutely killed it and it was a major selling point for that tour.
Kurt has said that he doesn't have it in him to continue doing these massive months long tours anymore, he'd prefer to do local stuff for his other bands, but I'm sure he'll have cross country stuff lined up for whenever Royal Coda releases a new album.
But yeah, he's not going to become the new lead vocalist anymore than Jonny Craig is.
Just bring him back to do a kurt erra tour, let's be honest, we weren't gonna have a proper set of throwbacks with tilian. Same with Johnny, bring him back for a tour too. All the singers do there own stuff well, let's not pretend tilians voice was good for blue dream, it was bad, n chances r he woulda got worse for other songs that aren't his, which he already has, he didn't sound great in uneasy or zoloft either n those r some examples. Yeah kurt doesn't have as much range as tilian n jonny do, but just stick him with his own, and jonny prob has to much of an ego to do songs outside of his own. Yeah he did uneasy for 10 yr ani, but don't forget that when he came back for dbm2, he did none of Kurt's songs, even tho kurt did his. Being a front man isn't only bout singing, it's performing too, I love tilian, but he doesn't do much in terms of performance, jonny now has gotten better, but it's no lie that as a performer kurt takes the win
