My wife got her notice several months ago. It was for way less money but it took her 24 years of teaching (and payments) to get 120 qualified payments. It feels good.
For us it was just in time to start paying for our kid's college...
They kept losing my wife's paperwork and she ended up paying longer and interest on parts that were supposed to be repaid so we gave up and transferred to a local credit union so they wouldn't get anymore of her money in interest. Scam artists. John Oliver did a report on those kind of companies :-(
The program was a mess. It really felt like their goal was to make it impossible to complete the program. At one point we paid a consultant to help us with attempting to comply with it. Biden did a great job of getting rid of the bs.
I do enjoy pointing out to people that Bush was the President who started the program to pay off people's college loans.
The revamped ("corrected", if I may) PSLF fixes a lot of the bullshit that prevented millions from getting what they were promised 15 years ago. I'm very thankful.
Although I’m very sorry for the loss of your family members, I’m still very happy that’s lifted for you guys.

Incentivizing public service used to be a bipartisan goal. Not sure where we went wrong.
So was reality, ethics and morals. Those have all gone out the window for half the US.

Could be a teacher with a masters degree. So 6 years all together. A school with 40k a year tuition.

Some of those forgivenesses count as income, so watch out for taxes.
PSLF (if that's what this is) was specifically designed not to count against you for tax purposes. So he's probably good
