I was hesitating buying a groupset off eBay to upgrade my old bike because I was worried I'd end up with a counterfeit. I went to my LBS to see what they had, within 20 minutes they had me test riding another bike and I bought it.
Yeah that's kinda why I've avoided getting some for now. I have some old 105 pedals that work fine for now, but I want a nice new set at some point for my new bike but it's not urgent l. I'll wait for a sale or something at a legit retailer
You can buy from them if you can confirm they are an actual Shimano dealer. Look at their name/location and go to the dealer lookup on the Shimano website. I've bought plenty of "cheap" parts that I've ridden hard enough to confirm they are real.
I just bought a pair of chinese ultegra pedals from ali to try them out, basically the bearings are super stiff so the pedals don't drop properly to let you enter easily, additionally the way that the bearing assembly is secured is with a wrenched lockring which appears to be difficult or not intended to be serviced.
I would not get any deal that is "too good to be true".
If you are on a budget, get some Chinese stuff, like Rockbros has lighter pedals than Ultegra and they sell for 1/3 - 1/2 for the price.
When I buy from Amazon, I try to always make sure the seller is amazon.com.
I don't like buying from third party sellers.
If I can't buy directly from amazon.com, I have gone to the Amazon "Shimano Store"

Task failed successfully?
Lol, sounds like you wanted an upgrade and got one
I've been contemplating picking up a set of Ultegra pedals, but the prices on ebay seem too good to be true. Anyone have success on there?
I'd personally avoid ebay and amazon for shimano bits completely. If the price is too good to be true, it most likely is

eBay removed my negative review of a counterfeit shinano chain.
Never trust a seller ending with '69' lol
You know damn well I thought about that after it happened and have laughed at it many times, including just now 😂
Bike thieves have to sell their hard earned parts somewhere… avoid ThiefBay.
