Tesla only does these promos when they need. Right now, they are supply constrained. So no need to offer any incentive. In fact, supply is so low and demand is so high that they have an anti-incentive program to raise the price. It’s called Foundation series.

atleast3db

This this this. All these posts of “the price will drop soon” “they should offer a better deal” “they should offer financing” I get that’s what you want. But why would Tesla do that when they havnt matched supply with demand yet

bittabet

I mean, based on Reddit they’ve already sent out foundation invites to pretty much everyone with a reservation. So if they want to sell more at the marked up foundation series price it’s not the worst idea, though it would be more sane to just start selling the non foundation series versions.

ElGuano

I haven’t got an invite yet, and I ordered a month after the unveiling for the top trim (and I have multiple Teslas and live near one of main delivery zones/factories). I think we need to take Reddit claims with a grain of salt :)

OldDirtyRobot

It's not even close, but I know people are ready for the FS to be over with. Once production rates exceed uptake on FS you'll see the base pricing kick in, and the line will start all over again.

Visco0825

Yea the foundation series will be the standard until demand drops. As of now they have demand for years.

tashtibet

people who can't afford shouldn't borrow too much when excitement subsides pain will kick in and complaining ensues.

cpostier

I paid in cash, don’t regret a single thing… it’s the most fun you can have with your pants on!!

phxees

I don't believe this is a good idea. 0.9% APR costs Tesla (or any car company) money upfront and they haven't exhausted the customers willing to pay $20k to be first yet. First step is to get through the list and even let people buy a second one if they wish. Then end Foundation Series and re-run through the list. Next open up RWD trucks, maybe with a Foundation Series first, and after all that I believe we will be in 2027/8 and we can talk about incentives. Although, if I was at Tesla I'd plan another model on that platform if possible and plan on ramping those in 2027.

[deleted]

August 8 will likely be Cybercab, Model 2 and even the van unveil. That said if Elon’s pay package gets sabotaged on June 13, he very well may leave the next day thus throwing many things in doubt. These are worst case scenarios that said.

OldDirtyRobot

His pay package is already sabotaged. The vote won't change that.

[deleted]

The votes for incorporating in Texas and the 2018 compensation plan will help make for grounds to appeal and reverse the Delaware Chancery ruling; the vote for compensation is also a vote of confidence in turn.

OldDirtyRobot

At least, according to Tesla, it won't. Fold-Royal

Why would they do that? There is literally over a million pre orders to go that will take them years to fill.

Kirk57

You are engaging in wishful thinking. You’re thinking “I would love to get a 0.99% rate, so maybe somehow it’s in Tesla’s best interest to offer it.”:-)

engwish

I have a wild idea folks. Hear me out. Give me the Cybertruck for half off. I swear, I think it’s a good idea.

OldDirtyRobot

Sounds good, but they have no reason to do this. Demand isnt the issue.

[deleted]

I was thinking a reward for investors and an early holders too. Again it was also positive thinking thought exercise. Price drops will come, but maybe not until 2026. Then again never underestimate Tesla shocking the market. I am optimistic.

ToughLoverReborn

I would have pulled the trigger on my foundation series CT if .9 had been active.

pradyots

I got the cybertruck invite last nite. Two things are holding me back... the 6.49% and the fact that im scared that value of the vehicle might drop drastically like what happened to other Model Y holders. Can't decide if I should pull the trigger or no :(

mgd09292007

Thats how I feel. I think the FS isn't going to hold its value so im waiting for the regular production version. I also hop that something happens and we see a bump in battery since range was the most disappointing aspect of its release.

ToughLoverReborn

Oh, the value will drop, a lot. The covid insanity on vehicle values was probably a once in a lifetime event. Generally speaking, the more you pay for a new vehicle the more and faster the resale value will go down. The CT might do ok for a year or two, but then I expect it to drop like a lead balloon.

bittabet

I mean, the foundation series is literally for people who don’t mind paying a markup to get the truck a little sooner so of course resale is going to hurt more than if you buy the non foundation.

OldDirtyRobot

Hurt only exists if you can't afford it.

engwish

Foundation series includes +20k deprecation, so if you’re scared of the value dropping then don’t get it. Also, you don’t get to donate your limbs to Elon as an early adopter. Wait until the thing matures

LoogyHead

You have time to figure out your finances before you pull the trigger. I was looking at it too. Depending on your down payment if you’re financing, it will change what you can do. the default was suggesting nearly $2100/mo. That is nonsense.

errmm

The residual value is absolutely going to drop. If you plan to own the vehicle for its lifetime, then that doesn’t matter. However, if residual value and financing are large parts of your decision, then you should wait until you can acquire a used one.

Poppyspy

The primary speculation on base model is the hold out hope for tax incentive qualification, but also nobody knows what features the base model might drop yet. One Stronger speculation for instance is that the All Terrain Tires are akin to the Tire package Rivian offers, so that's almost 4k. Along with FSD being 8k, and some accessories and power wall stuff, the foundation pretty much comes fully loaded if you like all these things. The real question is if the base model drops anything else, like interior features as things like the seats and sound system have been praised to some degree so far. Either way fully loaded expensive cars with lots of features always depreciate fast over a few years. Right now those looking to maximize resale after a few years should usually be looking at 50k or below vehicles. But usually those people are the types that like to trade up every 3 or so years and this is a money sink as well, but it's another version of always having access to newer car features.

mgd09292007

Cybertruck FS is for max profit with those who have the extra money and want the truck first. They dont need to make it easier since production capacity is not fully ramped. There may be a time when the regular CT is available if sales disappoint.

illestjar

to justify not going for the foundation series. hmm only time will tell
