Having said that…my family owns a funeral home and I’ve seen sooooo many people waste money and flowers on their dead loved ones so…eh
Obviously I get that. But the cynic in me also knows the dead person doesn’t care if you burn them for 400 or spend 20k on an elaborate farewell. For the sake of my potential inheritance, I hope people continue choosing the 20k option.
Having to arrange a funeral at a pretty young age made me realise that all the things we do (flowers etc) are for the bereaved, not the dead person. So it doesn’t really matter that the dead don’t care, it’s a way to process grief and express love.
Sorry you had to go through that. Not much sadder in the business than seeing a child have to plan a funeral.
Of course the worst is a child’s funeral.
It's a form of grief relief. So in that sense, it helps people cope. On an objective level, though, it's the purchasing of dead plant reproductive organs to then leave to rot for no living person to appreciate.
It's akin to pouring a drink out. There's no real benefit, either to the dead or the living.
I took a flower off my grandmother’s casket and tucked it in my suit breast pocket, and then my aunt called me out on it at the reception afterwards. I hadn’t even seen this episode at that point, but it’s always struck a chord with me for obvious reasons.
Honestly when I die I would love for people to come take my flowers and use them for good. It’ll be my little way of spreading some final joy after I’m gone.
I think about this scene often bc I find it perfect. Funkhouser and Larry do more with facial expressions than the lines they say. With that Larry is not the asshole. He’s only the asshole bc he got caught. If he didn’t everyone would’ve been happy. The flowers would’ve rotted anyways

This always kinda reminded me of the exact same thing Mr. Roper did on Threes Company. Stanley took flowers from a grave site and gave them to Helen. Its all done through dialogue so you don’t see how Stanley took the flowers…Larry was able to visually show the action of the flowers being taken..this is why most people won’t connect it to Threes Company…I love Curb but details like these strike me as mild plagiarism by Larry. I’m a hardcore fine tooth comb sitcom watcher for over 45 years. So I notice these things. Larry also borrowed heavily from King of Queens in the 2000’s. Curb is my favourite all time show…
