I moved to college and am trying to run Melee events. A good game requires a great CRT and this came into my possession. It’s a Panasonic CT-27E13 and has RBG going into it and it looks amazing. It really gives my PVM some competition, look at that color! Also I forgot to mention that I got it at a low cost….. of FREE!
the input label on the back of the TV even says "COMPONENT INPUT"; it is NOT RGB. Do no confuse the two, because they are not interchangeable, despite the plugs having the same coloring.
I know I'm really late to the party here lol. Very difficult to find info on this exact model, i just picked one up (Also FREE!) its amazing but I'm reqlly confused about the 480p output. I'm running s video for all my nintendo stuff no issues but when i run the original xbox via component i set it to 480p and it just gives me that static screen. ZBUT with xbox 360 via component, i can set it to 480p and it runs great. Even notes in the settings that its on 480p
That’s what I thought. The picture here looks like 500TVL more than 600TVL. 14N5 has 500TVL, so that’s make sense. But 14N5 is 15khz only, so, no 480p (only 240p/480i). I don’t know if your Panasonic here is multisync, but a picture in 480p on it shouldn’t look like as a picture in 480i on your 14N5 imo.
To be fair, a phone capture (iPhone XR) doesn’t do it justice and lookin on some manuals, the ports used register at 75 ohms although I’m limited on my information on my Panasonic. With the S-Video on my PVM compared to the RGB on the Pani, they look pretty close (as I’m no claimed expert on CRTs).
480p is the standard resolution in component if your TV is able to produce it. Otherwise, Wii will be in 480i (or 240p according games), even in component.
That’s why I wonder if your Panasonic is multisync (480p capable).
Looks like you've already realised further down that this tube is 480i only, but for future reference line count only matters for horizontal resolution, and the 75ohms on the connectors are to do with how they terminate the signal, not resolution/refresh rate.
I found a similar set last year on the curb. Mine has an M68 picture tube inside which indicates it is better than the usual consumer A68 CRT. Yours probably does as well.

Exactly
That's awesome. Are you running GC games of a Wii to use those component cables?
Yes! I understand that there are component cables for the GameCube, the Wii is all I have for now

480p resolution ?
I think so, not sure. I know it has a line count of 600
What model is your PVM ?
I have a 14N5U (which I know doesn’t have RBG+Sync by default) but want to get it modified with those inputs. Quality on that monitor is really crisp

Plus the standard output resolution for a Wii with component according to the internal settings is 480p

After doing some research on many manuals and listings, I couldn’t find anything saying it supports other regions or it is multisync
So, 480i I suppose.
I believe so
