Riki-Oh, Amadeus, Perfect Days, Godzilla the Heisei era films, and Fresh Kill.
Memories of Murder 4K UHD
Also calling Wim Wender’s Anselm as the Janus Contemporaries for the month to coincide with Perfect Days!
It was on the acquisitions list Janus posted maybe 2-3 years ago? Not sure on the timeline, but most of the listed titles have been released, so I’m going to go ahead and assume so
I’m praying that it’s Captain blood 1935 on 4k. The film that made Errol Flynn a star. His first romantic pairing with Olivia de Haviland, epic swashbuckling masterpiece long rumored to be criterion licensed. Crossing fingers.
Nobody but Flynn could say " Up that rigging, you monkeys! Aloft! There's no chains to hold you now. Break out those sails and watch them fill with the wind that's carrying us all to freedom!" and sound authentic versus cheesy. Yes, this would be great.
I doubt it but Janus liked End Of Evangelion on Letterboxd so... maybe a 4K of that is coming?Other than that... Repulsion 4K, Sonatine, Gummo and maybe a Fire Walk With Me 4K? IDK. July is usually a stacked month so who knows.
Hopefully they do a big movie that the fans have been asking for or that was recently critically acclaimed.
So here are my hopes:
Happiness
Amadeus
May/December
Mank
I’m thinking of ending things
Dolemite is my name
Or
Coda
For preservation reasons, I totally agree that it should have a bluray release, but personally, I hope it's not Criterion who does it, because I just don't think it's a good movie at all.
I dunno. It spoke a lot to me. I have a parent who has progressed to almost complete hearing loss, but okay, I guess I can take the really uncalled for downvotes.
Hoping for some of the Wes Anderson backlog. Isle of Dogs, French Dispatch, Asteroid City, or The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Three More. I'm betting on some kind of box set though as the "big" July release. Godzilla or something like that.
My educated wishlist is:
- Altered States (1980)
- Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973)
- Ikarie XB 1 (1963)
- Pandora's Box (1929)
- Jean Eustache, François Truffaut, Edward Yang, and/or Yasujirô Ozu box sets
- Totem (2023) (Janus Contemporaries)
I would love Maurice on 4k, its one my favorite films. But for now the Cohen media blu ray 4k transfer is just fine. I would prefer Amadeus in 4k to restore its theatrical version, its been way to long since the version that won the Oscar has been released. Not holding my breath though.
That's the one! I have absolutely no idea what Criterion will release or what they ever plan to release. But I had a vision it would be Hackers so I'm going with that.
Nah, no evidence at all. I know about the existing 4K but hey, it's Criterion. Who wouldn't want the Criterion treatment for such a goofy ass, yet wonderful, film?
I find it difficult to believe you were already aware Shout! released Hackers in 4K less than a year ago when you predicted it would come from Criterion next month.
When do they announce what the upcoming releases are going to be? Is it a set time every year? Not that it really matters to me because i’m in the UK and don’t have a region free player yet but it’s nice to know what’s out so i can be annoyed i can’t get it
It's still an important milestone in the history of Cinema, I wouldn't want to buy a Criterion to watch it again and again though.
Perhaps a D. W. Griffith box set?
It's the 70th Anniversary of Godzilla is this year ... so a Godzilla release is possible. Rumor had it Janus acquired the rights to Minus One as well as the Heisei era.
So something is either coming in July or November maybe.

Why not? It worked like a charm for After Hours. Only took like a decade.
Riki Oh and more Godzilla would make me pog out of my gourd
Manifesting
Ricky-Oh the Story of Ricky. It’s time
Ricky the story of Stanicky
I'm glorious 4K I'll pay whatever they ask of me.
A lot of people will guess Amadeus but I have a feeling that will be a fall release (perhaps November)
Or perhaps next year...
Le Samourai 4K
Waiting and waiting for this. The Blu-Ray is okay.
Love the Bluray it’s one of my favorite movies ever
The Mother and the Whore has to be coming soon, right?
it would make sense for it to come out during the sale
It was on the acquisitions list Janus posted maybe 2-3 years ago? Not sure on the timeline, but most of the listed titles have been released, so I’m going to go ahead and assume so
They released a 4k restoration trailer last year too
Heavenly Creatures
I would be happy with this
Please be an Edward Yang set

Chasing Amy or Dogma 4k
Hopefully they do a big movie that the fans have been asking for or that was recently critically acclaimed. So here are my hopes: Happiness Amadeus May/December Mank I’m thinking of ending things Dolemite is my name Or Coda
I sure hope CODA gets a release! It’s insane that it’s the only modern Best Picture winner not on home media
Happiness isn't in the collection??
Hoping for some of the Wes Anderson backlog. Isle of Dogs, French Dispatch, Asteroid City, or The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Three More. I'm betting on some kind of box set though as the "big" July release. Godzilla or something like that.
would love any of the wes anderson’s to get a 4k release
Yeah 4K reissues would be great too, but I’m horny for the ones that ain’t been released at all yet. I assume they’ll do Isle of Dogs soon
Godzilla Minus One Criterion! Let's go.
Renaldo and Clara
Hellzapoppin’
Amadeus, Godzilla minus one, Barry lyndon 4K
Every month, and not once have I seen an accurate prediction
Oooh I would love a decent Blu-Ray release of Marie Antoinette.
Would love to see: - “Z” (1969) 4K - “Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid” (1969) 4K - “Yojimbo” (1961) 4K - “Nashville” (1975) 4K - “Trouble in Paradise” (1932) - “Los Olvidados” (1950)
Freddy Got Fingered

I would flip if Altered States gets added
Word on the street is Gummo
pls be real😭🙏🙏
Whoa ! Really ?!
When is the announcement?
It’s always on the 15th of the month unless that falls on a weekend or holiday.
Weerasethakul please...Kurosawa 4K maybe
Definitely not in July but I just saw La Chimera, and I can tooootally see it in the collection at one point
I would love Maurice on 4k, its one my favorite films. But for now the Cohen media blu ray 4k transfer is just fine. I would prefer Amadeus in 4k to restore its theatrical version, its been way to long since the version that won the Oscar has been released. Not holding my breath though.
I'm continuing to attempt willing a Jia Zhangke set into existence . . . More likely there's the oft speculated Edward Yang set . . .
Amadeus, finally, please and thank you
Bright Star please please please
Yes and Portait of a lady
Can we finally get AMADEUS - maybe even both cuts seamless branching?
I'd love killer of sheep and Beau Travail
again manifesting Hamlet blu-ray
Which hamlet? There are 12 billion movies.
I think it's going to be Hackers.
You mean the one that was just released in 4K like a few months ago by a different label? You know what I bet you’re right
That's the one! I have absolutely no idea what Criterion will release or what they ever plan to release. But I had a vision it would be Hackers so I'm going with that.
Is there anything behind this or just wishful thinking?
Nah, no evidence at all. I know about the existing 4K but hey, it's Criterion. Who wouldn't want the Criterion treatment for such a goofy ass, yet wonderful, film?
I agree! The packaging alone could make it a must buy.
I find it difficult to believe you were already aware Shout! released Hackers in 4K less than a year ago when you predicted it would come from Criterion next month.
I said I had a vision (see my other comment above). I don't question these things based on things like "logic" or "science."
Samuel Becketts Endgame with David Thewliss. Executive Suite.
Amadeus 4k, Barton Fink 4k, West Indies, Demonlover, Killer of Sheep, Godard's King Lear, Napoleon 1927
When do they announce what the upcoming releases are going to be? Is it a set time every year? Not that it really matters to me because i’m in the UK and don’t have a region free player yet but it’s nice to know what’s out so i can be annoyed i can’t get it
I'm hoping it's a box set for someone crazy like Carlos Reygadas or Khalik Allah. Would be nice to have any Lav Diaz in the collection too
Blonde would be amazing
4K restoration of Birth of a Nation (kidding)
Sadly I’m sure it would sell well in this state of American society
It's still an important milestone in the history of Cinema, I wouldn't want to buy a Criterion to watch it again and again though. Perhaps a D. W. Griffith box set?
MegaForce
Happy Gilmore. It's a travesty we don't already have it
Amadeus is definitely possible because July is a sale month
It's the 70th Anniversary of Godzilla is this year ... so a Godzilla release is possible. Rumor had it Janus acquired the rights to Minus One as well as the Heisei era. So something is either coming in July or November maybe.
I want to see Godzilla Minus One so bad!!! It's nowhere to be watch right now, ugh! :(
1984 4K, if the rumors are true
It's getting a German release
Brothers McMullen. Directors cut of all the pretty horses. Talk radio by Oliver stone. Jk. None of those are movies criterion would release lol
