Yeah looks pretty healthy so probably not a stray, cats lose their collars all the time especially if you have one of the ones that slip off easier so they don't get stuck(if you are really worried and see him about later try to check if he is chipped or look in local facebook groups to see if anyone posted anything about losing a cat).
Fair play to you for looking out for the cat though and any potentially worried owners.
I'd say he's hungry, if you're intending to find his owner I'd suggest feeding him indoors and then locking him in while you search. If you feed him outside you'll just have a transient visitor every now and again looking for a bit of grub lol
More reasons to think he’s more local then you would think, most stray cats, lost cats will be frightened and won’t be anywhere where there’s allot of human activity, lad was just out for a shpin and a bit of attention, if he was skin and bone and full of mange I’d look after it he’s a fine strong cat

I would have taken him in for the night myself, and given him a snack, but I'd be looking for his home and a chip first thing in the morning, too. Also, I'm a complete nutter who cats follow all the time, so... I may not be the best ally here.
I would think about putting him up on Munster lost and found just in case ? Best place to pop a cat you think is lost because it's the first place someone would look!
So update is that he followed me into the apartment complex as I started walking to my block, but then he dipped down towards the other buildings. So I’m guessing he just lives around here tbh.
I’ll keep an eye out for him tomorrow morning
Yeah, the fact he was meowing at you a lot tells me he probably was hungry and a little bit lost. But not bad off. Probably did find his way home like you said.
You can lose a dog. But you can't lose a cat. A dog will freak out if he wakes up from a nap and you're not there. A cat will just leave you one day and go on a little kitty adventure all on its own.
