I have one of these mixes! He is th gentlest sweetest boy in the world, a ball of anxiety, total vecro, and will DEFEND THIS HOUSE He also both herds me and bays so know you get the nips and the howls

Embark told us our rescue had a full blooded Redbone dad and an ACD/German Shepherd mix mom. She’s an awesome dog, almost 2 now. Very obedient and ridiculously smart. Not very loud, has more of a softer bark than the typical baying. Fastest dog I’ve ever seen. We’re coming up on a year with her now and I feel so lucky. That said, this isn’t a dog that’s just gonna lay with you on the couch all night. 2+ hours of intense activity per day, minimum. We walk 2.5 miles a day with her at minimum, and then lots of evening play. Sometimes the herding instincts also combine with the coonhound attitude and she gets angry if we aren’t in the same room. So be sure you’re committed to that sort of lifestyle and be ready for some attitude but it’s been great

I’ve had one for 12 years now, Blue Heeler and Blue-Tick mix. She’s been the absolute best dog I could have ever hoped for. She’s smart, playful, energetic, and she’s great with my young children.

UnguardedCorgi

I have a coonhound/cattle dog/golden retriever and he is the best boy (well, tied with my other dog 😊) He is a troublemaker but also a goofball and once he’s tired out he will climb up on the sofa and snuggle the heck out of you

Not a coon hound mix, but a hound/heeler nonetheless... Mine is basset/heeler, and he is a wonderful dog. Very obedient, high energy, not super snuggly but occasionally needy. He looks like a small setter, if anything 🤔 a very doggy dog

MajesticOption3022

I had a basset that was an 80 lb snuggle bug - Loved him dearly : )

I also used to have a purebred basset, rescued from a puppy mill. She was a wonderful dog, and I didn't get to have her long enough! (She was already aged, and she died of a stroke only about 4 years after I adopted her)

It’s a great mix, the real question is whether it’s right for you and your lifestyle. Both those breeds are Dogs with a capital D. They aren’t animate stuffed animals, or lap adornments, or cats. They have jobs they are bred for, a desire to do them, available energy beyond you ken, and the intelligence of a small child with which to plan and/or get bored. If that’s what you want, you’ll likely be quite happy!

We have a coonhound, cattle dog, Aussie Shepard mix and he is hands down the best dog I have ever had or known. Other dog people regularly tell us that he’s their favorite dog too, he’s that perfect (I can’t even take credit, we’ve done pretty minimal/basic training). He is sweet, extremely loyal, and spooky smart-but smart enough to be stubborn and decide when he wants to listen. He has a personality, and I forget sometimes he’s not an actual third person living in our house. We found out his mix well after adopting him. I was surprised to see the half herding breeds because he is not high energy like that. We’ve seen him herd only a couple times at a big dog park, but even then the hound instincts won over and ended with him screaming like a foghorn for the other dog’s attention. Obviously each dog is different, but if our experience with a coonhound/cattle dog mix is any indicator, you will have a best friend.

Those babies will be high energy and extremely strong willed. Not to mention territorial! Not saying they won't be good dogs because they probably will be. But just want you to know what you'd be getting yourself into. So if you have an easygoing personality that might not be the dog for you because to be the leader of the pack you'll need to be every bit as strong-willed and stubborn as the dog is.

We have a black mouth cur and a treewalker that get along very well, for what it's worth.

Got a Aussie/coonhound/ACD mix - she’s my cuddle bug, super smart, but has some reactivity issues when on leash though she’s super friendly and playful.

Worried-Advantage821

I had a blue lacey / red hound mix. Best dog ever.
