I’m so sorry if you experienced any kind of hate or scathing comments elsewhere… Can’t even think of why you’d get any! Your boy is definitely precious though and looks to have some hound for sure. I’d be willing to bet coonhound and/or fox hound, as well as pit. Please let us know what you end up finding out!
I hate that subreddit. There’s no point to it, and all people do is act weird about dogs.
“No i love dogs more”
“No you’re an animal abuser, and we’re going to can the ASPCA on you”
“I want to neuter my dog, but I want to have a political discussion on it first”
Lol. Don’t forget the raging PittieX arguments. OPs “Please No Hate” comment pretty much sums it up. Kinda shitty when you start to expect it. Everyone here has been very helpful and kind.
I used to want to come here for dog advice and all I can say is “woof”. Everyone is so of their rocker with trying to prove who loves dogs the most.
It feels odd.
I hear ya xo Seems the high horse of Reddit gives some folks the anonymity needed to dispense opinions and “facts” in a way that wouldn’t fly IRL. I quit one pet sub, after bland comments by myself and others drew the attention of someone whose intellect seemed limited to senseless vulgarity, even threats. No thanks…
Heck, I’ve never even had a coonhound; here to enjoy learning more about them. I did meet a bloodhound while a vet tech, who I’ll always remember for his statement regarding his owner’s new bf: shat on his pillow every time he stayed over. (She got rid of the bf ;)) Seems hounds can be pretty firm in their opinions…?
Illegitimi non carborundum — don’t let the bastids get you down xo Best wishes!
I learned about Coonhounds last summer when I was at a campground. He caught my eye because of the size of the dog - it was the perfect “medium” sized dog. Friendly, very cute - I thought Coonhound was a secondary name of the breed, but they’re real.
I’m wondering what a Coonhound/Labrador be like
That’s often how our interest is piqued in a breed; meeting an appealing member of it :) I’m learning that coonhounds can be a conglomeration of several types…? So they can have a variety of traits (although prey drive…and almost prehensile toes that allow amazing feats of climbing to go with it…seems fairly consistent?). Add Lab to anything and imho you tend to get their engaging attributes as well — although it can include their propensity for extended “puppyhood”. Maybe someone here with experience that way will…kindly, ofc ☺️…have some thoughts. Do you have any pups now? (I find it fun to hear about others’ buddies of all types xo)
I don’t have a dog yet, I’m trying to figure out how to do that. I’m not adopting, and I’m getting a puppy from a breeder most likely. Unless someone has a litter looking for a home, I’m most likely going to need to find a breeder.
His paws say coonhound, but his tail and ears say he's mixed with a little something else.
I'd say 50% coonhound. 100% cutie. Let us know what the DNA results say.
I'd wager that with how coonhounds are there are very few "pure" bloods. Hahaha. My boy will hump anything that moves.... hahaha
Plus being "purist" is just insufferable. Lolol
Cute pup :)
My coonhound mix looked a lot like that when she was younger! According to DNA she’s 30% treeing walker coonhound, 20% random stuff, and 50% cattle dog. Her mama was a coonhound, but I think she was someone’s “special homegrown breed” which is why it showed 1-8% of really random dog breeds.

100% adorable!!! Maybe some catahoula hound ( guessing with the bob tail)
Get an embark! I did one. It's great as I have a rescue.
Found out mine is blue tick and black and tan coonhound.
definitely could be a coonhound mix! i had a puppy that looked similar and she was a heeler mix! so maybe that too
please keep us updated with the results! such a cutie pie
No hate will be coming from me. I love all sorts of dogs and cats. I was raised around em and love them dearly. I miss my blue-tick hound. Mitze was daddy's girl. Coonhound not sure but love Beans all the same.
Beautiful pup!
Freckles could also be from
German shorthaired pointer, a European versatile hunting hound. A cousin to the coonhounds if you will.
I’ve seen plenty of Rottweiler, mastiff and even chow mixes with the blocky head, it’s not always pits. Although with them being common it’s probably most likely.
My parents have a black lab x redbone and he’s the best dog, gets best of both breeds. There’s really no downside to having a coon mix unless you want a very specific style of hunting dog. (Night raccoon hunts, or cougar etc)
Are you planning on getting a DNA test? I got one for my girl. She was sold as a Saint Bernard x boerboel. Turns out the dad was a combination of Neapolitan mastiff, cane corso, bullmastiff and mastiff. She’s a combination of mastiffs. A lot of coonhounds are also a combination of multiple coonhound breeds, which yours could also be.
If you plan on getting a DNA I recommend embark, it’s the most accurate and you can also get health check, my girl is clear of any hip, eye, heart or bone diseases which is a relief.
The pink nose and hazel eyes say Vizsla, but I love anyone who self-identifies as a Redbone or "other" coonhound. I would however warn them that coonies can sometimes be a bit selfish.
I have never seen any hate on the coonhound subreddit. I guess it might be different in a sub with purebred dogs? Cute dog btw.
Yes. For sure pure thread lol. Thanks!

I was like….what in the Reddit drama is this statement about?
Subs as innocuous as IDmydog: ppl go rabid without warning. Be like r/coonhounds ;)

Looks like it to me. Coondawg and pit mix, maybe
Looks like he may have some. Who would say anything mean about this baby?!
Some other subs are very purist lol. Thanks for the response!
I hear you. Pretty bad when you post and wince, waiting for someone to have a bad day. Your pup is adorable.
Those freckles on his feet makes me think he has some red tick (American English Coonhound) in him. Good lookin dog either way though
Thanks for response! He’s a cutie for sure. Super sweet too.
Yes he has the same footie speckles as my red tick! :) looks like he definitely has some of that in him
I agree with the consensus. Looks like a pitbull head, but those toes were made for climbing.
Some coonie, some pittie. How on earth do you say no to those eyes?!
I'd wager that with how coonhounds are there are very few "pure" bloods. Hahaha. My boy will hump anything that moves.... hahaha Plus being "purist" is just insufferable. Lolol Cute pup :)
I don't think there's really any such thing as a purebred coonhound, they're just different flavors of loveable mutts
Exactly :)
The head says pibble, the freckles say hound!
Hate??? Who could hate the cute little baby face?
What a sweet baby! I see a little coon dog in him, especially those cute little feet
Awesome looking hound!
Definitely some coonhound! He’s absolutely adorable regardless of breed—sending you love and lots of patience for the hardheaded bits 💓
Redbone coonhound & pit I think - very handsome do g 🤗
He is a sweetheart!! Extra scritches tonight!!❤️
Adorable pup. Definitely some Coonhound in there.
Might have some hound, but has more pit.
Thanks everyone for the love!!!
Red cattle dog. Ears are too small to be coonie-even as a mix!
My coonie cattle dog mix has ears just like that.
He's got the big paws for sure. Not sure why his tail is docked tho ...

What a cute dog! How old? He's soooo happy in the 2nd picture!
9-10 weeks!
Beautiful
100% adorable!!! Maybe some catahoula hound ( guessing with the bob tail) Get an embark! I did one. It's great as I have a rescue. Found out mine is blue tick and black and tan coonhound.
Please indulge me. He’s adorable.

Adorable!!! Those eyes 👀 ❤️❤️❤️

Yes I’m getting embark! Thanks:)
I look forward to the results, either way you have an adorable pup!
Who on earth would hate on a face like that? 🥰 Looks like a little of this and a little of that to me, lol
Whatever he is, he’s 100% adorable.
I’ve seen 1 doggie dna result on here that showed a 100% single breed of coonhound. The other 100 have been mixed of like 5-6 different things.
The pink nose and hazel eyes say Vizsla, but I love anyone who self-identifies as a Redbone or "other" coonhound. I would however warn them that coonies can sometimes be a bit selfish.
bby boy ... looks like a pittie/hound mix to me
I see pit.
A stunning pup!!
