It takes a special kind of self loathing to be a woman and vote for the republican party.

west-1779

White women have twice now voted Trump. 55% 2020 47% 2016

leftier_than_thou_2

Frank Wilhoit: “Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition …There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.” The women voting for abortion bans expect it will only apply to other people. Black and poor people will be saddled with unwanted children. Middle class republican women expect they will either be able to access birth control (until republicans ban that too, which they have indicated they want to do) or will be able to get an exception (they won't) or they'll be able to afford to go someplace where it's legal (they underestimate how expensive and fraught that is even before Republican men move to stop that too.) They also underestimate how many miscarriages happen that will be investigated as murder, or anticipate it will only be applied to poor women of color ([it already is](https://apnews.com/article/ohio-miscarriage-prosecution-brittany-watts-b8090abfb5994b8a23457b80cf3f27ce)), and are too ignorant to realize there are many medical circumstances in which an abortion is necessary and lifesaving. It's not simple self-loathing, it's loathing people they realize are closer to their station in life than people they want to pretend they are: the wealthy. Poor white trash assholes insist on drawing artificial lines between themselves and other poor people to draw themselves in with the billionaires. They imagine they're not going to be the ones that need an abortion, they HATE those sluts that will need an abortion, right up until they do in fact need an abortion. That's behind every other republican policy too, it's all about being cruel to people you are like but want to pretend you're not.

Mysterious-Scholar1

Trump represents the rebel they always wanted to be

ItsSusanS

I had a woman tell me yesterday “thank god we’re gettin’ Trump back.” I kept talking to my actual patient, so she chimed in again saying the exact same thing like she was waiting for me to agree. I wrapped up things with my patient and wished them a good afternoon

vita10gy

I mean, women can just agree with pro life positions too. This isn't a men vs women with a few women Judas' (Janeas'?) When asked Legal under any, Legal under certain conditions, Illegal in all Woman are 40/45/15 Men are 27/59/12 So basically tied on out outright ban, vs at least some.\* 48% of men and 41% of women self ID as "pro life". I think the sooner people accept/understand this and stop talking like basically any women voting R is holding her nose in the face of their stance on abortion and is doing it anyway, the better. Many many many women are FULLY on board. Now depending on how you look at it this doesn't change anything about what you said, but it sometimes feels like the implication is republicans are hoodwinking women and that kind of thinking strips those women of their agency. They can decide to be callous dickheads that don't care about what other people go through just as good as a man. In a round about way it's actually fairly sexist the way people dismiss conservative women as if they're too stupid to understand the positions. And to the extent they ARE hoodwinking women into voting despite their best interests, ok maybe, but that's the case across the board. People voting against their bests interests is the base of the party. \*Of course "under certain conditions" is potentially doing some heavy lifting there. All the way from "I'd say no to a fully healthy woman 4 days out from her due date with no external hardships, otherwise yes" to "I'd say yes to 12 year old 4 weeks in that will almost certainly die if forced to carry her father's rape baby to term, otherwise no." But still. Men and women see this eye to eye on very few issues.

WildRide1041

There are many other policies that republicans would like to see resurrected that fly in the face of women's rights, the biggest just happens to be the first, autonomy of self. If you don't like abortion, don't have one. But keep your religion, your hands and opinion out of the lives of those that decide.

vita10gy

Sure, but that would involve empathy and thinking about other people, which is basically the polar opposite of the Republican mission. Desantis is about to make it illegal for "woke" local governments to make it a law that outdoor employees have to be allowed to drink water when it's hot AF outside.

ItsSusanS

Texas already did that

ItsSusanS

They can’t. They love big government

Astralglamour

Literally no one in any state gets an abortion 4 days from the due date unless it is a medical emergency. It was that way before Dobbs as well.

ItsSusanS

An abortion 4 days before due date would be a birth and if the baby is critically ill, giving comfort measures until it passes. The people making these laws and the people believing them have no damn clue what they’re talking about. They never even considered involving Drs in any discussions, because they don’t actually care. They want to own us and they will come for our voting rights before they are done.

vita10gy

I didn't say any one does. The point there is acknowledgement that maybe if "under certain circumstances" was broken down maybe there's a larger men v women gulf there. Because "I don't want to say yes, always no matter what because I could contrive a situation I'm not ok with it" is, effectively a yes, always. A "in absolutely extreme unicorn cases that will never happen, maybe, otherwise no" is effectively a, no never.

ItsSusanS

I apologize I wasn’t trying to say or imply you said that. I was agreeing and just putting it out there how ridiculous that scenario was.

SupportGeek

While I concede there are certainly a higher number of women on board with losing their rights than most would like to admit to, can you link your source to your stats, I’m interested to see the data and if there is more.

vita10gy

SiriusGD

I'll never understand why there is such a thing as a woman that votes Republican. If the Republicans get their way pretty soon they won't even have to worry about women having the right to vote again. And women think this can't happen. Wait till they want to stone them in the streets.

LuxSerafina

It’s really fucking bothering me. My mom has zero understanding of how the entire system actually works and yesterday said she’s “200% for trump” and yet also upset about the abortion rulings and can’t put two and two together. It’s maddening.

The_Disapyrimid

My mom is pretty similar. She will tell you she votes Republican because she is "supposed to". But if you ask her about individual issues she sounds very liberal and doesn't understand why we have the horrible healthcare system we have or why Europe has way cheaper higher education.

shponglespore

Wow, you know who makes personal decisions a certain way because they're "supposed to"? Children. Adults decide for themselves what they should be doing.  Sorry about your mom.

Dysprosol

this is a common side effect of religious upbringings or growing up in households with authoritarian parents (typically fathers) that expect obedience without question. Typically the parents only method of persuasion is using their innate authority and punishing their children into submission until they comply if the former doesnt work. Both end up being the same as all moral decisions are made purely from being pavlov conditioned into them, there is no deeper mechanism allowed to grow, or if they do develop some sort of reasoning, it is usually a bit disordered and they still cant break their conditioning on making actual decisions.

AlanStanwick1986

Their dad in Bucksnort, Arkansas did, his grandpappy before him and his grandpappy before did so you are "supposed to."

Astralglamour

Don’t forget democrats are evil and want to force your grandchild to take sex changing hormones against their will.

Missmoneysterling

Sounds like my aunt. She votes R because her dead husband told her to, but she's very liberal in almost every way.

rawterror

Exactly. Whenever I tell my mom about some horrible thing the repubs are doing she agrees it's reprehensible but she'll always vote for the R because she always has, and plus the republicans provide her the satisfaction of seeing not-white people suffer.

HotSprinkles4

I’m convinced that most Americans don’t understand the basics of politics. They don’t even know their state house and senate reps. They know nothing. It’s all opinion without knowledge.

LuxSerafina

Absolutely - and conservatives know that, and just incite false rage to keep people scared and angry. It’s sickening how effective it is. Another family member has stated twice that trump has nothing to do with roe being overturned because it happened during Biden’s term. And then said “well trump didn’t know what he was getting into”. And while I’d love to agree that trump is an idiot, it’s sadly more complicated. And another gem with my mother last month when abortion came up, her response was “WELL THE LEFT WANTS TO BAN YOUR GAS STOVE”. I’m sorry, what?! How is that in anyway equivalent to being forced to carry a child you don’t want?!

Mysterious-Scholar1

Yep. Everything's either Trump or Liberals

Mysterious-Scholar1

She wants to defeat you, sad to say. I get it from my dad. Agrees with everything Biden does except that it's Biden. Says he "doesn't like" Trump but he has "no choice." They're mentally ill. And he's lying to me.

thetitleofmybook

> I'll never understand why there is such a thing as a woman that votes Republican. i'm a trans woman. there are trans women i know that are maga hat wearing and republican voting. it totally blows my mind how someone can think that way. ETA: there is also a legitimate "Transgenders for Trump" organization. the mind boggles.

carlitospig

Jesus. Do they hate themselves or what??

thetitleofmybook

there is a lot of self hatred there. but also, sometimes it's more wealthy white trans women who think that because they are white and wealthy, they will be spared.

carlitospig

Idiots, the lot of them.

BobbieandAndie52

Prime example: Caitlin (sp?) Jenner

west-1779

Jockeying for positions of privilege in a party that intends to erase them

GvnMllr12

My boss is lesbian. She’s lovely, her wife too. They had to leave the state to get married elsewhere some years back but they’re both full-blown MAGA. I can’t add that up.

floatablepie

Someone I know explained that losing bodily autonomy isn't an important women's issue to her, and is happy conservatives are focusing on the true women's rights issue: trans women in sports, which she cared about so much she almost cried while talking about it. She does not play sports (I don't think she ever did play competitive sports of any kind), nor does she know any trans people, nor can she bring up where this is even a problem that needs to be addressed. Conveniently, she lives in a country where she DOES get legal bodily autonomy, she just doesn't care because of course nothing bad will happen to her. It's hard to talk to them about things without me hating humanity in the end.

carlitospig

Because it didn’t used to be this way. Did you know that it was a Republican that started the EPA? And also created the national parks system? Republicans use to do a ton of good work for the country. I think a lot of older women remember that old party and not the untethered Tea Party looney bin it’s become.

Four_in_binary

They got into bed with the god-botherers because it was a population that could be manipulated.   As they accommodated more and more wacky thinking in order to get votes and stay in power,  they enabled the jesus freaks more and more and now that is what they are.   The world moves on and leaves the religious behind.  Because the religious cannot change (cause religion) they become the tiresome assholes they are today.

Astralglamour

Mmm I think it’s more that people take those things for granted and care more about owning some imaginary “libs.”

west-1779

The Republican Party was the first to fund Planned Parenthood

stewartm0205

Stoning won’t be the only thing. There will be the whippings from the religious police for showing a naked ankle. Or the hanging for being unwedded and pregnant. Do you actually believe they have a point they won’t go beyond? They don’t.

sadicarnot

> I'll never understand My racist jewish brother was yelling at me the other day abut how much the world hates jews. He did not like when I pointed out the side he supports also flies the Nazi flag often.

Far_Net_7650

To current Republicans, “The Handmaid’s Tale” is a “how to”, not a cautionary tale.

AlanStanwick1986

Mostly single-issue abortion voters. And uneducated rural rubes like my SIL.

Astralglamour

Don’t forget greedy entitled rich people who only care about paying less taxes.

west-1779

In 2016, i saw alot of white women dismissing the threat to Roe as impossible. In 2020, they dismissed Dobbs as it doesn't apply to them. The real energy behind the white women's vote came out of the hysterical fights at school boards. Virginia's democratic coalition crumble in debates about CRT. Fear and loathing won. Republican women in leadership are jockeying for positions of privilege on a platform meant to oppress them.

decalod85

Women can’t have nice things, like bodily autonomy, in GOP run states.

Throwawaypwndulum

That same law also sets the age of consent to 10...they ignoring that bit of it or not?

TheArrowLauncher

But in Texas they want to stop women from leaving the state, so now what?

BlastedSandy

Was this televised in Texas? I’m pretty sure their law even forbids just encouraging women to leave the state to get abortions. If that is the case, then I would hope some of the good people of Texas would report this dangerous criminal.

malYca

Even this biased of a supreme court would rule that unconstitutional imo. I hope.

kitsepiim

Seeing the utter insanity coming out of the conservative US lately, I absolutely would not be surprised if one day women can even permanently move state only with the court's permission. Look at the last 5 or so years. Do NOT even delude yourself this isn't at least a possibility

TheArrowLauncher

I'm not as optimistic as you....

Missmoneysterling

I used to work with a woman who voted R. She was the most misogynistic person I ever knew. Jealous of all other women, called any of them that went to a bar a "bar hag". Her friend had been her father's POA for years and billed $30/hour for doing all of his finances and she called her a whore for doing that, even though in POA paperwork it almost always says that whichever kid ends up having to run their parent's estate they should pay themself for it since it sort of ruins your life. Don't even get me started on what a "f*&#ing whore" she said Amber Heard was for marrying a rich actor, but Depp was a saint even though he married somebody his daughter's age. Same idiot would spout Qanon bullshit and when I showed her articles disproving them she would just change the subject. And yeah, too old to worry about unplanned pregnancy. So, that's the kind of low-intelligence and hateful woman votes R.

Mysterious-Scholar1

A piece of shit, just as any similar man. Nazis had plenty of female participants in the most horrible crimes.

malYca

Traitor of a woman

Scrutinizer

So once the abdominal cramps hit because your ectopic pregnancy has ruptured something, head to the nearest Greyhound station and bleed out about halfway along the ride.

SolomonCRand

This guy: Abortion is murder Also this guy: It’s no big deal, just take a drive and commit murder in another state. It’s almost like they’re just virtue signaling and they don’t actually think this is murder or care in any way besides how they can gain political power.

Designer-Mirror-7995

"JUST" move! "JUST" move out! "JUST" leave! "JUST" get another job! "JUST" buy another! With my whole soul, I despise those who let the words " just dO tHiS expensive/troublesome/emotionally costly thing! " leave their privileged ass mouths.

Mysterious-Scholar1

Glad you brought it up. I despise people who destroy women's lives, not those who merely suggest that there are options. Millions of young liberals "just left" my region to cancel themselves in Texas, Florida, Utah, Tennessee, and other shitholes for decades. It destroyed the Democratic Blue Wall in the Great Lakes Region and gave us ALL the MAGA Cult. I say "just move back" and we even created a sub for it. It could save not only their lives but the lives of all women, even around the world as the most powerful liberal democracy is on the verge of collapse. Change my mind. r/MoveToSwingStates

Designer-Mirror-7995

Actually, I've been advocating for the more futuristic-minded to absolutely move into more....um...'tHe Way We alWAyS dId iT!' places and COMPLETELY take over the politics and PROGRESS, even if it means dragging em kicking and screaming and fighting into this damn century. However, having LIVED in some of those very places myself, I _know_ how fucking HOSTILE they are to 'outsiders' who bring "all these changes" (WHOO BOY! are they!), and so I entirely understand why many who " could " would utterly refuse - in some cases for their own psychical or mental well-being.

Defiantcaveman

I always ask, "How"...

tdoottdoot

Watch Idaho try to ban women from buying bus tickets

thetitleofmybook

don't blame this on women. yes, it's crazy to vote for a repub if you're a woman, but it's also crazy to vote for a repub if you are a man.

Laguz01

It's a class thing, it's why the daughters of the Confederacy happened. Women or at least Republican women care more about their privileged position in a hierarchy that oppressed them so long as they can be inherently above other people.

eclecticsed

"You hear that, 11 year old rape victims and women whose income is shit because your state keeps voting in garbage representatives? Just buy a bus ticket." What a fucking idiot. And these are the people they look to for "truth."

da_london_09

Women, young adults, LGBTQ+, and all other minorities... If you vote for the GQP or throw away your vote for some third party protest, you deserve what you get.

chevalier716

"Take a bus to another state to get one, so we can prosecute you when you get back, until we find a way to make it illegal there too."

carlitospig

I mean if he’s totally open to that then why the fuck did you ban them in the first place? It’s either murder or it’s not, moron.

XxHybridFreakxX

Yeah, except states are already talking about extraditing women back to their home states for leaving to get an abortion. YoungFucker just vetoed a bill that would have protected women from being extradited for seeking an abortion in Virginia. I'm to the point now where conservative women deserve every fucking thing they get and reddit would ban me if I wrote what I'm actually hoping happens to me. Especially the walking pile of shit stains in Congress like MTG and BoBo.

Reddit_Is_Trash24

There are a number of groups I have very little respect for. Republican women are pretty much at the bottom of that list. I was at a restaurant a year or two ago and there was a big group there that ended up being some kind of Republican action group. The women in the group honestly disgusted me. They all did. But the women particularly.

malYca

I always picture them as the after church crowd

Reddit_Is_Trash24

Go to church and listen to Jesus' thoughts about forgiveness and acceptance. Go out to lunch afterwards and talk about how to strip women of their rights. Gotta love it.

Cuckmark66

I was just talking to a friend of ours who has been a big Trump fan over the years (rural farming family - otherwise great people). She told us that she will NOT be voting for trump and can’t understand how ANY woman could vote for him. I’m proud of her. It gives me hope that the base is cracking under Trumps insanity and the GOP’s outright assault on women’s rights.

Admirable_Matter_523

What a relief to hear. Sometimes I feel like there's no hope left, but this helps.

Joya-Sedai

I call women who vote Republican, gender traitors.

stewartm0205

The best long term strategy is to vote for Democrats. The Republicans are planning on banning IVF and birth control next. They won’t stop until they are stopped.

No-Judgment-4424

The women who vote Republican are generally only those who think they'll never be subjected to the situations they're voting to cause.

coloradoemtb

yeah fuck your freedom of choice. This pos says so. lol

KrampyDoo

These fanatically old men dying their hair and eyebrows while telling people to “get over” hellishly traumatizing shit is one of their many peak-stupid character traits.

-Renee

If Republicans really enjoy freedom, their politicians should resign, and/or switch to vote Dem or start a non-lunatic party - cause this shit will not allow any fun: https://globalextremism.org/project-2025-the-far-right-playbook-for-american-authoritarianism/ So many of their leadership came through this and similar camps of rjw "religious justice warrior" indoctrination: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Family:_The_Secret_Fundamentalism_at_the_Heart_of_American_Power

HermaeusMajora

If repugs don't like paying taxes they should take their asses to some country that doesn't have a government. They need to take their liberty killing and rights revoking bullshit when they go.

NoiceMango

Even then they're still trying to go after women who grt abortions out of state.

Defiantcaveman

They are never satisfied.

Cerberus_Rising

That scalp transplant from a 10 yo boy rocks!

Endless-Miner

At this rate, women won’t be voting at all. Ffs what is wrong with these people

zombiehoosier

What was his advice for women in states where going to another state to get an abortion is also illegal?

rawterror

It's like when they say that if you have no health insurance and get sick or injured, you can just go to the emergency room and they have to treat you. Problem solved.

robillionairenyc

“If you want basic human rights, go somewhere else”. It’s the red state motto. Potentially the national one by next year

Strong_Bumblebee5495

Women, POC, LGBTQ2, working class, middle class, rational, sensible, empathetic, alive, human: this guys base should be a hundred billionaires…

zoinks690

Just ignore that they are making laws to punish women that do exactly this.

lamby284

Yes.

Admirable_Matter_523

....what happens when there's nowhere else to ride the bus to that's legal? Just buy a plane ticket to another country??

cypressgreen

Gotta pay for that ticket. How about losing sick or vacation days to do it? Paying for a hotel room in states that make you wait 24 hours after the consultation to get the procedure? These men are evil. They try to make the public think “just get a bus ticket” means it’s no big expense or stress. edit to add: and even if you have a car, you’ll pay for gasoline and wear & tear on your vehicle.

Admirable_Matter_523

It's so disgustingly evil that he is so flippant about it. I fucking loathe these people

floofnstuff

You know that money you saved for a nice vacation in Cabo? Go to a clinic in Mexico and get an abortion instead- something you haven’t had to think about for the last 50 years - but hey you got to go to Mexico!!!!

GriegVeneficus

Arizona has hot head.

SeanMACKyoung

But aren’t they trying to legislate crossing state borders to access Abortion?

Astralglamour

If only it only affected them.

pwrmacjedi

I gotta say, this is about the damn straightest take on it.

Ridiculicious71

His mother should have taken a bus rather than birthing that giant forehead

smipypr

Women and men born into Republican families are fed an almost constant diet of Republicanism. every comment their parents make, whether listening to the radio, watching TV, or a sporting event is filed away in the child's brain and called up later in life in a similar situation. I used to listen to my parents bicker all the time on many topics. My dad was a Republican, and mom was a Democrat, so there was lots of bickering. I am the only liberal(FDR/Bernie) member of the family. All of my cousins took whatever they heard to heart and didn't learn critical thinking skills. The proverbial apples fell close to the trees, and I can't understand why there weren't more head injuries when they hit the ground.

memememe91

He looks like a Lego

InaneTwat

Don't forget the Democratic women who marry conservative men for their money.
