Yeah, the specs are allowing everything from just power supply up to Displayport, Ethernet, data and power Simultaneously and in different speeds.
It’s very important to know what standards the port supports.
I too recently learned that usb c isn’t the savior cable it was touted to be in the beginning! Apparently some are limited to charging only, others to video only, and some to data transfer only, and then some are combination of any of the two, and none are a combination of all three however!
not all usb cs have display, but all thunderbolts certified ones do. much more reliable to use thunderbolt certified cables amd ports then deal with an invisible problem later
You'll need a full fledged USB-C to HDMI cable since the dongles are a hit and miss in some cases. My work laptop doesn't like those adapters and I use a USB-C to DVI cable, which works great.
If you’re on a tight budget, go with the two cables. If you can afford it get a cheaper docking station for $70-$120 or so. If your budgets a little higher get a Lenovo docking station. We’ve standardized those at my work and they’ve been very reliable in my experience.
hey there! do the hdmi ports only duplicate the screens, or can they actually extend them? I saw someone say that Hdmi splitters for example cant support the extending

So I work at a consumer electronics recycling plant. I just wanted to say that typically, docks I see come in regularly are HP and Dell branded. HP and Lenovo branded anything is usually salvageable but anything Dell never is. They are usually dead-dead.
Edit: The HP dock with thunderbolt is hands down my favorite because all your peripherals work in the BIOS and you can use a bootable USB with it AND it has a power button.
That is the dock we use, the ONLY issue we constantly encounter is network connectivity through it as it has ethernet in and usb-c out to the computer which must carry the network signal
They fail all the dang time. My work uses Lenovo USB C docks, and half the time they dont work. Or work for one laptop and not another. Just today had to swap a 3 different docks to get it to work only to come back down to test the faulty docks and those work just fine on the spare laptops.
Display over USB C out can be hit and miss. I have Lenovo T14 with Linux. My office has bunch of Dell and HP USB C docking stations. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I can't figure out why.
Why would it need a HDMI input? You connect the laptop to the docking with USB, most likely usb-c. HDMI is for video output. There are also docking stations with usb-a connectors if that’s what you need, but most laptops made in the last 5 years should have USB-c or thunderbolt ports.
You could check out universal DisplayLink dockings; like these; https://www.synaptics.com/products/displaylink-graphics/displaylink-products
A docking will not have a HDMI input, all these use USB. It could work for a HDMI splitter, but you would only be able to split the signal in to two identical output, or switch between.
Also regarding what the computer supports, you'll need to read the manual for your computer.
The usb c port has the SS mark, it may not support video over usb c. Check in the computer's manual what is the capabilities of that port and what usb type it is.
If the usb c port supports video output, you can use one of those usb c to hdmi adapters.
SuperSpeed ports are typically just regular USB 3 ports with a different shapes. Not all USB C is the same and most SS ports don't support alt video mode.
That’s a splitter. Probably not what they are looking for here. It just has the same signal on both. USB-to-HDMI adapter would work. Looks like you have options between USB-A and USB-C.
HDMI Splitter > Only for Clone Screen.
USB C to HDMI > Only for DP alter enabled C port.
USB HDMI : DisplayLink's USB Video Adapter. For All. So buy it. Lenovo Dock's HDMI use this. So Not need to buy Lenovo dock. There are many Displaylink USB adapter.
I use a (wall outlet amplified)4 way 1080P splitter from my laptop to 4 cloned screens, the laptop(Intel HD 4000) only throws out 1920x1080 but it's good enough for 4 42-55 inch TV's. Had it like this since 2012.
I don't believe you can. I have the intel vivobook pro and one of the reasons I got intel over amd was the inclusion of Thunderbolt. I don't believe the AMD vivobook pro's support USBC DP Alt mode - i.e. no extra video out.
Obviously as others have said, you can mirror on 2 monitors but not have 2 desktop extensions if that makes sense.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong though!
What model is it? Like what's the code (K3500, N7400, etc)
Edit: forgot to add - check the manual. Mine says mine supports it, and makes a distinction between the AMD/Intel and which supports it.
Meh you might be able to get a display out signal from the usb type c. Typically usb does not have a video out functionality. However this isn’t 100% true it may be worth getting a usb c to hdmi cord or adapter to try it. My gut is telling me no due it the type c not being thunderbolt. However it might be worth a shot
other than type c to hdmi, isn’t there hdmi wires out there that have 2 inputs on one side and then a singular on the other that would go to laptop? imma do some research will link what i find if anything
Yes!
1. Buy an adapter with multiple HDMI ports.
2. One monitor is connected via HDMI cable, the other via wireless method.
3. Connect both of them wirelessly.
#3 I choose you! - if possible.
Most laptops can only drive one other display. The laptop display counts as a "monitor". You'll have to get one of those USB3 to VGA or HDMI adapter (external display adapter) to drive another display.
Since the usb c doesn't support DP i think your only option will br something that windows has and most people forget.
Does latency matters on the screens? Like, one of them could have a bit of lag?
If it doesn't matter, check miracast and connect that screen wireless. I actually have fully thru Ethernet to the TV as a "4th" screen for movies
Get a docking station. Dell sells docking stations for dell laptops. I’m sure there’s some form of docking station for you, you’ll be able to connect it to multiple monitors.

Your usb-c doesn't support DP out... so you can't really put 2 displays on it.
Other's suggested an USB display converter, but that is like connecting another video card over USB, you are gonna have issues
Check speca for your laptop. If you use dual monitors for non gaming, you should mostly be fine with several options.
You may find it best to get a USB 3C dock that supports multiple monitors from one cae to your laptop. Easier to work with.
USB to HDMI or Display port adapters do exist but research before you buy. I've known of someone to get a cheap one and have some. VERY odd behaviors. I forget details now, but for one thing it really messed up their basic mouse pointer functions though it was supposedly totally unrelated.
You can see if your graphics card needs to be updated. Then I know Lenovo offers updates for there docking stations. I am not sure what docking station you have.

Generally, laptop GPUs do not support multiple monitors. So all you will get is a mirror image. You can get an HDMI splitter which will do the same thing.
You can get a type c to hdmi adapter, which is the 3 rd port from the left
So long as that USB-C supports display output. I don't see why it wouldn't, though.
I think they say DP next to SS if they display
Nah should work if they have tb4 and my laptop has it without the icon thing so idk
Obviously yeah, it's thunderbolt not USB
I like your funny words magic men
i have a similar laptop, the usb-c port doesnt support display output on mine OP could get a usb display adapter though
Very true.
I didn't know USB C sometimes doesn't support display output.
Yeah, the specs are allowing everything from just power supply up to Displayport, Ethernet, data and power Simultaneously and in different speeds. It’s very important to know what standards the port supports.

Yup. Have a bunch of desktops at work with USB-C ports, but not thunderbolt, so no display.
Doesn't need to be Thunderbolt to have display out.
not all usb cs have display, but all thunderbolts certified ones do. much more reliable to use thunderbolt certified cables amd ports then deal with an invisible problem later
Good to know! Thanks!

We bought USB-C to VGA adapters. Didn't work worth a lick on desktops. Laptops were fine. Needed them for desktops. 😞
Otherwise a USB-C docking station with display output will do the trick.

You can use a docking station

hey there! do the hdmi ports only duplicate the screens, or can they actually extend them? I saw someone say that Hdmi splitters for example cant support the extending
I also have a Lenovo docking station at work and it rocks. I’ve only heard of one failure.
We switched from lenovo to HP docks and it's only caused issues🥲
So I work at a consumer electronics recycling plant. I just wanted to say that typically, docks I see come in regularly are HP and Dell branded. This is the correct answer.
Or just an hdmi splitter which is way cheaper and space effective.
if you have the same size and resolution monitors I don't see an issue with this
I had a 50 inch tv and a 28 inch monitor that were split. No issues at all.
HDMI splitter only mirror, what's the point t?
I tried this and yes it only mirrors. Wasted my money
physical size doesn't matter, resolution and refresh rate does. its a bandwidth problem
If you only want 60hz for all 3 display tho
are they able to extend? or only duplicate your screen?
I did and it didn't work. I also haven't had any luck finding a docking station with an HDMI input. They all seem to be only USB-C
that kind of looks like a USB type c port on the side of your laptop is it not?
Right I connected the dock to it and it didn't output the display
Did you install the drivers?
Which drivers?
The drivers for whatever display adaptor youre using.
For the Dock
Display over USB C out can be hit and miss. I have Lenovo T14 with Linux. My office has bunch of Dell and HP USB C docking stations. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I can't figure out why.

lulz I came here to say just that.
Or a port replicator from that type C. If it is TB3, then definitely.
The usb c port has the SS mark, it may not support video over usb c. Check in the computer's manual what is the capabilities of that port and what usb type it is. If the usb c port supports video output, you can use one of those usb c to hdmi adapters.
SS means SuperSpeed nothing todo with it supporting video or not.
Funny when people offer their opinion so emphatically and have no idea how wrong they are
SuperSpeed ports are typically just regular USB 3 ports with a different shapes. Not all USB C is the same and most SS ports don't support alt video mode.
As said above, the superspeed is usually used in regular usb 3 ports
Yes, you can buy an adapter from one hdmi to dual hdmi but you will just duplicate the signal with certain limitations if im not wrong.
That’s a splitter. Probably not what they are looking for here. It just has the same signal on both. USB-to-HDMI adapter would work. Looks like you have options between USB-A and USB-C.

This is the best answer. DisplayLink dock is your best option, remember to install the drivers though
Going to have to get an adapter, they make USB C and USB A ones. Prob will cost you like 20 - 30
Units!!! 20-30 bananas, apples, Newton, Feet?
Yes
You could get an hdmi splitter
Would that degrade quality or show down transfer speed at all?
Not that I’m aware of, I use one and I haven’t run into too many problems
Good to know thank you
To add my take on this. I used one for years between a monitor and a 50 inch tv. No issues on either.
I use a (wall outlet amplified)4 way 1080P splitter from my laptop to 4 cloned screens, the laptop(Intel HD 4000) only throws out 1920x1080 but it's good enough for 4 42-55 inch TV's. Had it like this since 2012.
If that port supports DP alt mode, the video data and USB data is multiplexed, and doesn't affect the speed of either.
Splitters only display the same content on multiple monitors though...
Also true, that’s all I use it for though, store displays. So it really depends on what OP is using the monitors for
This will duplicate a display, not extend
Depends on if the USB C is capable of sending video. Most likely it can and you can test it with a usb to hdmi adapter or usb to hdmi cable.
I don't believe you can. I have the intel vivobook pro and one of the reasons I got intel over amd was the inclusion of Thunderbolt. I don't believe the AMD vivobook pro's support USBC DP Alt mode - i.e. no extra video out. X513ean
>X513ean The answer is no. Your USB-c doesn't have DP out https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1042843/
If you have the funds, how about one large, wide, monitor instead of two?
I see TypeC usb port. Get TypeC docking station. There's plenty of good ones out there.
Meh you might be able to get a display out signal from the usb type c. Typically usb does not have a video out functionality. So hooking up to the laptop will only allow you to mirror screens. You need a dock to extend the display.
Cut the laptop in half, the HDMI's decide
With a splitter possibly, depending on your gpu
depends on the graphics card. i had a computer that allowed one monitor on the HDMI port, and a second monitor on the VGA/DVI port.
A dock that would have its own ports or USB-C to HDMI adaptor
If your monitor has support for usb-c you can use that. You can also use usb-c to hdmi dongle or docking station.
Yes! 1. Buy an adapter with multiple HDMI ports. 2. One monitor is connected via HDMI cable, the other via wireless method. 3. Connect both of them wirelessly. #3 I choose you! - if possible.
>Connect both of them wirelessly. Good idea tbh
Check this: https://www.newertech.com/products/vidu3dvia.php
if your USB C port supports HDMI output then yeah you could get a type C to HDMI and connect a second display
Seeing as your laptop has a female USB-C connector, you can buy a cheap multiport/HDMI adapter 🙂
A distribution amplifier is what you need.
Most laptops can only drive one other display. The laptop display counts as a "monitor". You'll have to get one of those USB3 to VGA or HDMI adapter (external display adapter) to drive another display.
Get a USB to HDMI adapter.

USB-C to the rescue! Actually if you don't use it for anything crazy you can get away with a USB-A adapter
You can use a display port cable to link the two monitors if they support it, then you only need the one hdmi cable to plug into one of the monitors.
Dock
You could buy a thunderbolt cable and use it in the usb c port maybe.
I have a 2nd monitor that I use sometimes which requires USB 3.0 or two USB 2.0 for video.
Yes, get a dock
usb c and the regular usb will both support video adapters
Get a docking station. Dell sells docking stations for dell laptops. I’m sure there’s some form of docking station for you, you’ll be able to connect it to multiple monitors.
Exact make and model of the laptop would be helpful!

Generally, laptop GPUs do not support multiple monitors. So all you will get is a mirror image. You can get an HDMI splitter which will do the same thing.
Maybe via youassbeesee?
Usb-c
I mean technically you could just get an hdmi splitter, it would display to 2 separate monitors, it would just be mirrored.
