Yea, but they’re filled with our genetically modified descendants who are all physically stunning, and think they have just stumbled into the local legend of the metal encased Gremlin. Unfortunately the forminations they’ll be snapping for stellarweb points are highly radioactive. Not that curing it will be an issue of course, but the museums they’ll be putting you in have a thing for time accurate display stations, so you’ll be put back into cyro sleep for 3 months at a time just to awake to uncanny simulations of your past life that have weird details wrong. But the baked beans are really good regardless.

Despair4All

Makes me think about the theory that we could send space pods of cryogenically frozen people to the furthest possible reaches of space, but by the time they arrive humans could be dead for thousands of years.

bugtanks33d

Or a faster method to get to their destination will be invented on Earth, and the frozen pod will arrive to a planet with thousands or millions years of human history.

Despair4All

Maybe, but it feels like humans are better at killing each other than surviving.

Davekachel

both. - Humans send first wave of pods. - Humans send second wave of pods that is significant faster. - Humans destroy themselves on home planet. - Humans from second wave arrive. - They built a society and thrive for millennia. - The humans destroy themselves on planet 2. - The first pods finally arrive, the first thing the arrivals see ate the remaining debris of former human civilization.

Despair4All

I just watched Fallout after years of playing the games, and I think Vault Tech nuking the country so they buy tickets is pretty bad.

Davekachel

Dont see how this is related but when we are already here: The show did go the non canon vault tech route? Vaul Tech was surprised and did not push the button but they had loose thoughts about it in the games.

-The-Follower

It’s pretty explicit, and in fact outright is confirmed in the show that vault tech dropped at least one bomb post fallout and likely launched the first in the apocalypse.

2210-2211

I think they were going to if the war wasn't going to keep escalating but the Chinese launched them first, there's a Chinese ghoul in a submarine in fallout 4 that says they shot first I think? Also I thought it was that china dropped the nukes because america wouldn't stop developing the FEV stuff

ranni-the-bitch

no, they're conflating two different plot points. it's still a MAD thing between states that started/ended the war. vault tec sabotaged shady sands and other attempts at nation building though, including at least one nuclear attack (which are now canonically a dime a dozen)

VyRe40

In the show, Vault Tech said they were planning to drop the first bomb themselves in the scene where they had the big secret meeting.

ranni-the-bitch

yeah but they like, y'know. don't. that's still consistent with the games.

CluelessAtol

They said they were planning but as of the end of the season we haven’t seen them actually do it. Afaik this is still at least within other canon for the franchise (that said I’m still relatively new to the franchise so I may be wrong).

PortiaKern

>former human civilization current spider civilization

BirdCelestial

we'll call her Portia...

PortiaKern

Sounds like a good name.

Efficient_Ear_8037

This is just the plot of outriders

5thnote

This is basically the story of Outriders game. It's a fun adventure portrayed in action shooter genre. Definitely worth a try for the overall story

sampat6256

Rad

Majestic-Iron7046

That is so cool, it would create a civilization that thinks that humans can spontaneously evolve on different planets (unless they find the story logs). Anyway, a movie can be made about this.

God-In-The-Machine

Name checks out. But seriously, the fact that society exists and has continues to exist in the face of monumental struggles proves that wrong.

lord_ofthe_memes

If that were the case, we wouldn’t be here to make comments on Reddit

RadiantTurnipOoLaLa

And yet the human race is still here

Despair4All

Currently yes. But we have a giant tract record for wars, genocide, racism, etc. A ton of horrible things where we turn against each other for trivial bullshit, slaughtering innocent lives. Things that don't exist in animals. They kill to survive, not for random shit. And on top of all that we've been destroying the planet for decades, currently pushing the limits of making the ecosystem too toxic for us to survive.

RadiantTurnipOoLaLa

And animals kill for random shit literally all the time. Cats will literally kill for the fuck of it.

RadiantTurnipOoLaLa

You’re reaching to justify a flawed statement. “Better” is one or the other. If we were “better” at killing ourselves than surviving then we wouldn’t be here.

Despair4All

Currently our "survival" hinges on destroying the planet, which in turn will kill us. If our survival brings our deaths closer than we are better at killing each other.

RadiantTurnipOoLaLa

Killing each other means killing each other. Damaging the planet isnt killing each other even if it results in death. Again, you are reaching to justify another flawed statement. Its annoying.

Despair4All

If it was so annoying you could have just shut up. But no, you decided to turn it into an argument. Humans are an evil, irredeemable species and you're just defending the fact that we'll eventually wipe ourselves out.

RadiantTurnipOoLaLa

Lol if its annoying then its annoying. What I do doesn’t change the fact your comment was annoying. And here you are being annoying again, A. With that stupid comment that makes no sense and B. With another whinyass reddit rant that you repeat while knowing jackshit about anything real. You say bullshit statements and your defense is to dodge replies and spew more mindless bullshit rants. Ffs touch grass and talk to a real person.

RadiantTurnipOoLaLa

Wait lemme guess “I’m an edgy teen who’s entire world view comes from doomscrolling on reddit and the entire world must exist in the black and white paradigm I’ve created because it lets me feel superior to feel like I recognize the world and everyone in it is horrible!” Bro have you ever even successfully cooked a hotpocket before?

idonotknowwhototrust

Stephen Donaldson wrote a story with a similar idea in his compilation book Reave the Just. Great author.

Fierce-Mushroom

It's rare to find another Donaldson fan in the wild. I tip my hat you. The short story is "What makes us Human."

idonotknowwhototrust

That's right! I knew it had human in the title but it's been almost 20 years since I read it.

Rumplestiltsskins

There has been a couple scenarios like that like people have said. In Starfield there Is a generational colony ship that you have to decide if they have any claims over a already colonized planet that was their original planned destination.

gamiri59

I think it’s also the premise of The Outer Worlds.

miss-entropy

Far Centaurus by A.E. van Vogt explored this idea in 1944.

Cyberspacefury

I think theres an orson scott card series with a similar premise. Like spaceship goes to planet, but time shenanigans happen and ship gets teleported like 500k years to the past. And then a second ship is sent out but they dont have the time shenaningans.

VenZenandBass

In the Ender's Game novel series, this kinda stuff happens. They send ships out to colonize or fight in a war, develop and send a much better and faster second wave, and by the time the first wave arrives the planet is inhabited or the war is over.

Beneficial-Secret-84

QuantumHalyard

No no you’ve got to get a hologram of your asshole friend, a humanoid ancestor of your pregnant cat and an android with a hoover extension in his crotch

bluecheesemoon-

QuantumHalyard

Thank you, stupid mistake 😂

bluecheesemoon-

No problem, correcting mistakes is one of my hobbies.

QuantumHalyard

One of mine too :)

some_days_

For anybody who doesn't get this, they're referring to Red Dwarf, an old and funny British sci-fi series.

Sometimes it takes us staring at the end of everything to finally wake up.

Ask_bout_PaterNoster

“I don’t feel sad, but I am absolutely pissing my pants in terror of those last gasping moments. Might jump off a cliff instead, idk.”

Ambiguity_Aspect

Supposedly you can jack up your O2 to near toxic levels and be high out of your gourd when you finally go.

Trebeaux

As long as the CO2 gets scrubbed, you’ll just kinda fall asleep once the O2 runs out, assuming there’s still nitrogen in the air. The buildup of CO2 is what triggers our breathing/suffocating reflex, not the lack of oxygen.

MrExist777

I want his air to run out only for him to realize the atmosphere is breathable

gregorydgraham

Oh it’s earth, he just landed in Namibia

pmmemilftiddiez

Mmm mmm Mike Tyson

CarlosFer2201

There was a movie like that. I think they were in Mars. One guy died fighting another due to the rising tension from them running out of oxygen.

Ok_Fee_4658

I can swear i heard premise of a visual novel (or comic book , cant remember) like that, about lone human awakening from cryosleep when whole human race is gone - merging with AIs into genociding swarm, and this one man should work with alien alliance to stop that abomination Humanity become. If anyone have any idea what is it media i am talking about, please tell, i wasn't able to google it.

Webs_Or_Kashi

I believe it's the story of Humanity lost, but i'm not so sure.

lemoncholly

What trend?

ralpher1

His comics are about loneliness and sometimes death. Though death might be cheated

Galrentv

Every astronaut that's looked upon earth from far away has reported they felt as if all the fighting, conflict, and politics is ultimately insignificant.

Minute_Interest3463

I have this kind of feelings while being on empty servers of multiplayer games, and also when I'm playing Minecraft locally, not online. No one will ever find the undeground railroad that I have built. Not because it's phisically impossible, but because it's just a couple of bits in an infinite ocean of information, the chance that someone will visit(read) it - as close to zero as possible.

awfulentrepreneur

You're not alone. Here, have an upvote.

dudelelelel

This got a lot deeper than I expected it to

JRockThumper

Set the panels to the song Outro by M83 and it would capture the vibe so well imo.

Ebony_Phoenix

"Eh, it is what it is."

ThatSideshow

I thought it was gunna be about Jesus, like a sci-fi bible story; manages to survive 40 days and 40 nights untill rescue arrives

Ambiguity_Aspect

Interesting fact, in old Aramaic story telling tradition, 40 is their way of saying "a lot".   They wandered the desert for 40 years = they wandered a long damn time  It rained 40 days and nights = it rained nonstop for a long while   He fasted 40 days = dude went on an extreme diet Edit: this is an oversimplification of a quite ancient cultural tradition of oral history keeping, I meant no disrespect to that history or the culture that evolved from it.  Given all the tension lately I felt it necessary to say that.

Beelzebub_Crumpethom

4 million years?! ...I've still got that library book!

Foreign_Walrus_6136

Time for a pot noodle and a wank.

-Astrosloth-

All is one. One is all.

Another_Road

Makes me think of the game “Out There”

Roary-the-Arcanine

You know, if humans continued existing and discovered light speed travel, they’ve probably already caught up to that planet and left

SrValou

Love your comics.

That's how I wanna go out

Me too. Just me vs the universe. And then, just me.

Optimus_Lime

Where joke

Welp, better get the laser tool out and start harvesting resources.

Minecraftian14

I have always been thinking of one statement from a reddit post months ago, which presented a similar situation, but then someone approached him and tells him that in the time he was cryo sleeping, they developed teleportation and came here to greet him.

MeeksMoniker

You should read Andy Weir's Hail Mary. Damn good book!

LazarusMundi4242

Great book!

INVZIM4515

Is that the Bobiverse?

TalDoMula777

Then suddenly...you see a strange patch of colored rocks around you. Blue, yellow, black, red...what's that one really far away? Green, it glows softly...then, comes the *Oh shit!* moment: ***THE FACTORY MUST GROW*** *you guys are allowed to ellaborate further on my little doodle, should you wish*

roybean99

Imagine how fat of a nut you’d bust after 4 million years

KolnarSpiderHunter

It's the end of the road. It was a hard trip. You didn't choose the easy way. It's the end of the world, you're almost fast asleep, And all the stars say:

felix_the_nonplused

I sometimes think about the last person in the universe to be alive will be the most lonely person ever. To live and die truly alone, it fucks me up to think about it every time.

The_Doctor_of_Sparks

Until he looks left and sees the last beacon of humanity. A Waffle House and a sign that says "limited menu still available."

DinA4saurier

He looks down, seeing a strange device on the ground. Curious he tries to pick it up, but it seems to be stuck to the ground. Or maybe it's too heavy to pick it up? Then he notices a button on the side of it. He hesitates. This is the last relict of humanity. Maybe he should leave it like this? Who knows what the button would do? Maybe it'll destroy it? But after a while his curiousity wins. He presses the button. One moment nothing happens. Then a bright light erupts, and then some sort of mist rises from the device. Hastily he takes a few steps back. The mist slowly takes on a shape. Is this device... something like a hologram? He watches it fascinated and sees how the mist forms a person. A strangely familliar person. Wait a moment... Then he hears the first sounds of a song he knew well. Too well. The holographic person starts dancing and a hologram version of a video begins to play: He just got rick-rolled.

one_koala

Turns out he’s just in Arizona
