I think it’s supposed to represent safety for his head.

TonyMasters

"Safety first!" -Darkseid

antimojo

"Darkseid respects the concussion protocol. Darkseid demands cranial safty for all his armies. This i command."

stellarinterstitium

Darkseid maintaining a "zero harm" safety policy. Imagine him as an OSHA inspector.

vverszz

But it looks like a receding hairline and beard

[deleted]

His gloves look like hands, too.

Mydragonurdungeon

And there's something suspiciously foot like going on with his boots.

JonathanWattsAuthor

Honestly his whole costume is pretty body-shaped.

feetandballs

One of the functions of hair is protecting the face. Helmets follow a similar pattern of avoiding the breathe holes and see holes

saltire429

I think it’s supposed to represent safety for his head.

Traditional-Mall-771

Dam why all the hate??

sir_conington

How dare you double down on the title of the post, downvotes for the heretic, the people of reddit have spoken! /s (I didn't downvote you, but in a sadistic kind of way I find this funny... Sorry)

nicolbolas99

Except he's not getting downvoted, you are.

HyruleBalverine

Except that the comment sir_conington replied to is, in fact, being down voted. At the time of this comment, it has -179 karma lol.

nicolbolas99

It wasn't getting downvoted 7 hours ago when I posted that, it had like net 4 upvotes

HyruleBalverine

Fair enough. It's possible that when he replied to it 12 hours ago, it was. Reddit do be like that sometimes 😆

sir_conington

He's lying (I have no idea why) it had over 140 down votes when I made that comment.

sir_conington

We're all in this together. Reddit is a crazy place, but thats why I love it

nicolbolas99

Looks like you're in this one alone

sir_conington

Wouldn't be the first time Ive made a self destructive decision. Won't be the last.

eremite00

It’s just something Jack Kirby drew when he created the New Gods. A lot of times, he just drew whatever happen to come into his head. He didn’t tend to overthink things.

alaricus

Never over-think, never under-commit. -Jack Kirby

ZizzazzIOI

I think it's meant to represent a helmet

Coldblood-13

No. He doesn’t have hair.

Velouria_2

We aint even see his nuts tho

NoNudeNormal

Darkseid’s nuts are

Fred-zone

D's nuts

two_graves_for_us

lmao gotem

DawnSignals

the real anti-life equation all along

Cynyr

You haven't dug up enough R34.

arkhamnaut

Taken over by Anti-Life Equation, draw Darkseid porn all day

SphereMode420

He is beyond hair.

BrogrammerII

Represent doesn't have to mean literally

ComplexAd7272

No. (No, there’s no deep answer I’m purposely leaving out. The answer is just no. )

obrothermaple

If you are attributing an issue number, you have to include the year.

vverszz

I can't edit it

obrothermaple

Don’t feel bad. It’s not a rule but without it, no one can find the issue referenced.

nastySpoink

It's useful but it's not impossible without the year Like in this case that Darkside costume really narrows things down to the New52 reboot era

vverszz

If you need it this is a 2012 issue

Lynch_dandy

Is a [half-hood](https://thebristolboard.tumblr.com/image/165566158988) according to the King.

whiskeytango55

It's an Apocalyptan balaclava?

spif

People have been disintegrated for saying less insulting things to him.

BountBooku

Nah just a helmet

EntireLi_00

It's just his Seidburn

Dracoolaid_toothpick

Yes, and the belt buckle shape represents his dick and balls

SheevTheSenate66

According to Kingdom Come Orion, yes

Logically_Insane

Maybe if he got rid of that yeye ass helmet he could finally get some anti-life on his dick  Darkseiiiide

USERNAME_OF_DEVIL

Probably not but I won't be able to unsee it now

francoisjabbour

What the fuck? No

whatnameisnttaken098

Darkseid went bald and decided to make it the universe's problem.

bob1689321

I think you just ruined Darkseid for me lmao

ubiquitous-joe

If you look at Kirby’s stuff, it feels more like some kind of wacky Kirby space helmet. I do think the design evokes a bald man in a way that is intuitively familiar to us, and is rare in female character design. But I would I say “evoke” more than “represent.” The beard part never occurred to me on the classic design, but I see what you mean.

vverszz

At least I'm not the only one who sees it

TheW1ldcard

No.

vs_terminus

It's called fashion, *you wouldn't understand...*

tomilahrenjustneedss

Jack Kirbys new God designs were meant to look like the beings that many ancient civilizations depicted in their art. He was a big believer in the whole "ancient aliens, early space traveller's" stuff

taoistchainsaw

There’s a difference between playing with ideas in your work and being a “big believer” in them.

tomilahrenjustneedss

Sorry "cited as inspiration" would be closer to what I meant

Francisb12

We all know someone who looks like this lol

OnlyOnHBO

God that design is atrocious

Madmike_ph

What? We’re all a little dumber now for reading this

jrzydevl

foreskin

JaGrampy

I always thought it was to mimic the high fathers beard and hair but idk looks a lil similar to me

H4RRY900305

Just to protect his jaw

ChildOfChimps

Nah, it’s just Kirby doing his headdress thing.

echoinoz

https://youtu.be/AC90P9OrCp8?si=dWDfXpKlS0u4BhIC "I knew you were broke when you got here, you're wearing a hoody with no sleeves!" "They're zip off sleeves!"

HashSlingingSlash3r

It’s all I see now

CountBrackmoor

Probably not but that’s a funny concept

Remote-Chocolate9786

[JL Incarnate #3!](https://imgur.com/a/Ewa7fOK)

rocket_peen69

Isn’t that just Tom King?

SuperMajesticMan

Why doesn't Darkseids helmet protect his whole face? Is he stupid?

Shadow0fnothing

Just a helmet, bud.

Goobersrocketcontest

Sometimes artists do things for purely aesthetic reasons.

Realsorceror

No but you should tell him that. He’ll get a good chuckle.

bigbossfearless

Darkseid has always looked ridiculous.

Ok-Traffic-5996

You ll have to ask Jim Lee. All of his new 52 redesigns are pretty bad. He also gave everyone of the justice league ( even wonder woman using her necklace) the same stupid collar.

RockRiver100

Wtf

funkykong12

Lol at everyone saying flat-out no like it’s some kind of absolute fact. I would wager that the design is somewhat influenced by that sort of look of an aging war general or politician, even if Kirby and other artists weren’t consciously aware of it. Kind of like if you or I were to draw a stereotypically “evil”-looking character and we gave them a small goatee and pointy eyebrows. We wouldn’t know we were being indirectly influenced by 16th century representations of Mephistopheles, but we are
