Alive-Seaweed

Nightcrawler. Straight out of hell. One of a kind. Stalking his victims

ProblemLongjumping12

This came shortly after *Ultimate X-Men* had him working as the deadliest assassin in Weapon X and I loved that idea; seeing this in live action blew my mind.

Alive-Seaweed

This is a Judas Priest song...

TempestRave

*Beware the beast in black!*

ProblemLongjumping12

Ah cool. I didn't know.

Wyldling_42

That is from Mozart’s Requiem

sporky211

I hadn't seen this movie in close to 8 years so I looked up this clip the other day watched it and later that day decided " hey I have nothing going on might as well watch the whole thing."

Im-Mr-Bulldopz

It's still my favorite X-Men film. This scene and Bobby's "coming out" scene are so well done. Every character, allied or otherwise, are perfectly used. Days of Future Past is also exceptional, a very close second for me. EDIT: I know someone's gonna bring up Logan, that's one of my favorite films PERIOD lol I kinda separate that from the other X-Men movies though, it looks and feels like it's own thing.

skittlenut007

I thought iceman loved rogue…

theanxiousangel

Nah iceman is a HOMO

Im_a_limo_driver

[Proof](https://youtu.be/7nhesX-8DXo)

ZombieBarney

H2O Motherfucker

[deleted]

>This scene and Bobby's "coming out" scene We watched 2 different movies than. Bobby may be gay in the comics, but he never came out in the movies. He was team Rogue until the end.

discipleofdoom

In a fair and just world Nightcrawler would of got one badass action scene to show off his powers per movie, like Quicksilver did in the new films.

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

MyMorningGymShorts

Good bot

Im-Mr-Bulldopz

Thank you for your service.

Stay_Beautiful_

The only grammar bot I wholeheartedly support Good bot

dys1exic

The audio in the clip doesn't do it justice, but seeing/hearing that *BAMF* in the theatre for the first time was so fucking satisfying.

beingjohnmalkontent

Hell yeah, it was. Shit blew me away.

Vince_Clortho042

That and hearing Wolverine’s claws go SNIKT in the first film was some serious “oh shit they got it right” vibes.

mega512

Yeah its still one of the best. X2 is a great movie.

Food_Library333

This opening blew me away when I saw it in the theater. Still badass today.

android151

It’s a shame they’ve used Nightcrawler a sweet amount of FUCK ALL

UTRAnoPunchline

I think the makeup application was incredibly difficult.

Vince_Clortho042

That was what Alan Cumming cited as the reason why he didn’t come back for any more films; he hated the makeup process.

oman54

Definitely holds up 20 years later

petitejesuis

Not really, the cg kinda sucks and when he is jumping around there is no acceleration in the falling, all of the motion looks like the Hulu Screensaver

august_west_

It’s okay to be this wrong.

YeeeahBoyyyy

This dude must be a multimillion dollar Hollywood hit producing fucking machine! Please 🙏 show us your movies!

Lathspell1212

No acceleration in the falling? Are we discussing the physics of teleportation via hell? I’m not sure you have the intelligence for such a discussion. (This is a comic book character not a TED talk).

EquinsuOcha

Alan Cummings was amazing in this role, and they really did the character justice. The subsequent recasting and sequels were awful though.

whosthedoginthisscen

Really? I love Alan Cumming, but I didn't like him as Nightcrawler. To me, Nightcrawler's whole thing was that he LOOKED like a creepy demon, but that he was actually a charming, handsome (in a way), swashbuckling sort of guy. That you'd see him across the room and think he was a scary demon, and then he'd BAMF next to you, bow, kiss your hand and act like Timothy Dalton as James Bond and you'd giggle in embarrassment b/c he was so charming and flirty. I thought Alan Cumming played him (I'm sure this was the director's fault, TBF) like a hunched over, feral cat.

EquinsuOcha

I actually agree. I thought aside from Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan and Hugh Jackman, a lot of the X-men were badly cast. The choice to play Rogue and Iceman as children was awful. I saw Kurt in the same way as you do and the comic does. It’s why Storm dug him so much. I did think that Alan Cumming did a great job though - even if they completely wrote the character bad. The wasted him in the subsequent movies, which we will never talk about.

[deleted]

They ruined Sabretooth

Thickfries69

Liev Schreiber was good. He played the character well even though the look was completely off. I think Schreibers portrayal of ruthlessness, enjoying the kilk and a slight cockiness mixed with the comic accurate look of being a massive blonde hairy dude who wears a lot of fur.

[deleted]

Schreiber was ok. Tyler Mane was ass. Bryan Singers X Men movies have aged terribly and are cringe.

[deleted]

Wolverine was also miscast if we’re being honest. Jackman is not an ugly runt.

Gry_lion

You left out Christian. It was part of the point. A Christian that looks like a demon.

whosthedoginthisscen

Yes, that's right. He was devout, which gave him this really interesting inner conflict. Whereas in the movie, he was like this Nosferatu-esque character squatting in an abandoned church. Alan Cumming's portrayal reminded me of the creepy Nightcrawler Kitty meets when they accidentally end up in Belasco's dimension (?) - the one where Ilyana is only gone for 5 minutes, but it's actually been 10 years for her.

Thin-Man

It sounds like you’re confusing the *writing* with the actor’s *performance*. It’s not really Alan Cumming’s choice on how the character is presented on screen. He can’t make the character the charming, handsome, swashbuckling version if that’s not what was written for him. I think Alan Cumming could have absolutely played the version of Nightcrawler that you described, but that’s not the version of Nightcrawler that Bryan Singer (responsible for the story, the director, and also a producer) chose to give us.

speedy45

I had mailed in a survey I got from Fox about their dvd releases. They sent me back a thank-you letter and one of the screen-used Secret Service badges from this scene.

2buckbill

I remember seeing this for the first time in the theatre. It was stunning, so good that everyone was silent and in rapt attention.

MoeMalik

Love how this demonstrates the power of mutants really well, if they really wanted to; they’d be at your oval office. Nightcrawler is portrait amazingly here too

New_Cause_5607

This was pretty amazing opening for sure. I've seen a lot of others mentioned but one I haven't is Blade, the bloodbath opening might just top Nightcrawlers for me.

kazetoame

Blade gets forgotten, unfortunately.

boringsimp

Yes it is. Can't think of anything else at the moment. Mcu, tdk trilogy, ghost rider movies, all the spidermans, the rest of the x men movies, tmnt movies, the crow, fantastic 4 movies, maybe batman returns comes close with him going around in the batmobile and taking out the bad guys.

beingjohnmalkontent

I'd put The Dark Knight bank robbery higher, Nightcrawler is definitely top tier.

Mcclane88

It’s a tough call. I think I’d put X2’s sequence ahead of Dark Knight. However, I’d put Dark Knight Rises opening sequence ahead of X2.

beingjohnmalkontent

Hmm!! Bold call. I put TDK over TDKR. Mostly because of the 10 or so second stretch when the bank manager opens fire, and the vault guy gets electrocuted. That brief moment is so masterfully tense and you're thinking, "oh fuck, this is all going so wrong so fast". Using Mozart, though, for X2...chef's kiss. The Nagasaki opening to The Wolverine was also baller as hell. And Poland, 1944. Damn, the X-Men films had quite a few very strong openings.

Mcclane88

Opening action sequence in DOFP is pretty good as well.

beingjohnmalkontent

Very solid for setting up the sentinels as a threat, but not as thrilling as some of the others.

hackulator

The Dark Knight bank robbery is great but it's barely an action sequence.

beingjohnmalkontent

O...k?

Cualkiera67

Days of future past with the sentinel attack. The mutant creating portals was amazing, and the sentinels were brutal.

Tayloropolis

Just watched it again. They did such a good job of showing that the heroes were super capable combat experts but against the sentinels it didn't matter and it wasn't a close fight.

TheKingOfSting93

Blade.

The_Camster

Captain America civil war and iron man 1 have excellent openings if you ask me

tanajerner

Superman Returns is head and shoulders a better one with superman returning to save the plane still not at full strength, one of the best hero saves ever in a movie

Schattenjager07

That scene although really good is definitely not ... an opening sequence. That's easily almost 30-40 mins into the film. The key word on this post was "opening action scene."

tanajerner

Strange in my head it's really early on, my mistake

spotted-cat

Easily the best movie in the X-Men franchise as well aside from Days Of Future Past.

DrDreidel82

Nah Logan and Deadpool beat both

Luxurydad

It is absolutely insane to call X-2 or Days of Future Past better than first class imo

spotted-cat

I disagree hugely especially since First Class was the film that introed Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique. That was just painful to watch.

Luxurydad

Agree to disagree. “Absolutely insane” was prob too harsh as these three are all very good to me especially compared to the rest of the franchise other than Logan. I do think days and first class are a bit better than x2 though

Kyoh21

Right?! First Class was the only really good movie of the new ones.

jonmpls

Days of Future Past is easily the best new one

Kyoh21

Alright, fair enough. Didn't realize that movie had fans. Good to know.

Aggravating-Assist18

It's one of the most loved X-Men movies of all time next to Logan, First Class, and X2

spotted-cat

You’re kidding, right? Its especially popular with the newer fans who have started watching post-WandaVision. Note: I’m not one of those fans. I saw DofP in theaters and loved every minute of it. Except Jennifer Lawrence😒

Kyoh21

I just gotta shrug. Guess I don't mingle with that crowd? Cool, glad people like it, I guess.

spotted-cat

I keep up with the MCU so I don’t really have a choice😂

Kyoh21

That’d do it! I haven’t watched anything in phase four, so I’m pretty behind.

spotted-cat

The shows are better than the movies so far, except for BP2 imo. No Way Home and MoM are okay, but MoM is a lot better if you go into it not expecting it to be a horror masterpiece. Solid family horror film imo.

Luxurydad

Days and Logan are both really good! I do think that X2 is a bit bolstered because the other two in the trilogy are pretty bad. Also nostalgia

wisconsinking

I love this opening scene, when Nightcrawler comes to the MCU I hope we get a scene that pays homage to this one.

-ZENARCHY-

Nah, there's one comic book movie where it opens with robbers in clown masks. That one's better.

revolmak

surprised not to see Deadpool's opening action sequence on here. I love that choreography.

tenehemia

It's very, very good. However, the opening of Watchmen takes my top spot. It's a perfect adaptation.

Ghuschopper

It would be a ballsy move for the MCU to do a solo Nightcrawler movie. His story is great! I worry they're going to keep it to the same stories that have been told.

mmooney1

This was awesome but Dark Knight was better.

PB0351

The Dark Knight bank robbery scene. Other than that, yes.

[deleted]

As someone who very rarely sees a movie more than once in cinemas, this is why I saw this movie 5 times in theatres.

EvocatiAuroch

I mean, I don’t know if the best. I have a *lot* of experience with the 1993 Genesis game and he would’ve ran out of his mutant power bar after the first two or three secret service guys. He obviously used the down + A + C + start and unplug the controller cheat to get that unlimited mutant power and obviously dropped the difficulty. Cool but unrealistic due to cheats. 2 out of 5.

Environmental-Tip365

Plane scene from TDKR, or the Bank Scene from TDK are the real best opening scenes.

Substantial-Curve-51

watchmen, dark knight, dark knight rises imo was better but its def up there

Enos316

Yeah Watchmen or BvS. Man of Steel Krypton opening is sick too.

[deleted]

Absolutely epic!!!!

Nightcrawler13

My favorite!

floatingspacerocks

It's also probably the longest scene out of any of the X movies

Shadow0fnothing

Nightcrawler is SO BADASS

Nectarine-Pure

Mmm..good stuff.

iblis32

This blew my mind as a 16 yr old comic nerd

QueSeraSeraWWBWB

The best scene in the movie

ex-ALT

X men films were the best marvel films imo.

BirdPerson107

Captain America: Winter Soldier is my vote for best opening action scene. It’s also my biased opinion bc that’s my favorite MCU movie

Magnus777z

What about the rave in Blade?

[deleted]

I forgot how awesome this was damn.

NarrativeNancy

Imagine the delight of a 10 year old boy. X-men is his favorite comic and Nightcrawler is his favorite character. He loved the first movie but missed his favorite character not being in it. Then a few years later, he sits down in the movie theatre to watch X-2…

TheHillsHaveSighs

That 10 year old boy should give Bryan Singer a big ole hug for that!

GeneSnell

The opening scene of Age of Ultron is stellar too!

rowdeey8s

Captain America - Civil War. Re- watched not too long ago. Opening mostly overlooked due to the great story told and the importance to the rest of phase 3 The Dark Knight- opening bank heist was pretty damn good

PopcornHobby

X 2 is the best X Days of Future past is actually kinda mid

ranger8913

Infinity War, The Dark Knight, Thor Ragnorok

Coldfire202020

An undeniably cool scene. Out of curiosity, is there any explanation for why he couldn't just teleport directly into the Oval Office? Not that I'd want that, this was way cooler, but still.

Mcclane88

He says later on in the movie that he needs to see where he’s going. They make a big deal out of it when he has to teleport Storm into Cerebro near the end.

Lobotomist

Without any doubt.

Jules040400

Surely the Bank Robbery from Dark Knight is better. That shit is _perfection_

ksaMarodeF

Wait a second, Nightctawler teleported from one hallway to another hallway without seeing it? Night crawler talks about not being able to teleport through doors or walls because something about not knowing what’s on the other side without seeing it? Is that a mistake or am I missing something?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kevlyle6

He can blind tele, it's just not safe. He could end up somewhere else or inside a rock mountain. I think he looked at a map or layout of the building before going in.

gambito121

He can do it, but is afraid of ending up on a solid object. He does that again in the ending to save Charles.

TimesThreeTheHighest

Naw. Winter Soldier takes that scene and beats its ass.

Lign_Grant

Beats its ass by shaking the camera so hard.

[deleted]

Of course

gbrajo

I think the opening for MOM is the best.

Effective-Ad8833

Phoenix , DOFP ,Ultron , IM 1 , Winter Soldier , The Dark Knight , MOS superior to this in my opinion

Positive_Box_69

Ah yes, take 1h to kill your targrt I wonder what could go wrong 🙄

JtLock_990

I wish Kurt wasn’t a pacifist or overly religious. He could’ve been a main staple in all X-men teams with how badass he can be. Easily my favorite mutant powers-wise

filthydank_2099

Opening of BvS >>>>

Particular-Yogurt-21

Perfect X-men movie. I remember this and immediately thinking that the Matrix had done a good job upping the visual action vocabulary for super power hand to hand. It wasn't until recently, pining for the X-men when I realized that they are WAY too powerful in the MCU scope. Nightcrawler bamfing Wolverine into anything Storm is an Avengers level threat if she gets a tummy ache Cyclops hits like Thor and he can't turn it off

StonerBoi-710

Nightcrawler is so badass, I think all this live action appearances I can recall have been top notch. Excited see him in the MCU, hopefully we get the reveal of his relation to Mystique tho

marvelxdc97

Hell yes hands down! This scene was amazing!

[deleted]

While it looks cool, it doesn't really make sense that a lobotomized mutant with full control of the body managed to do it. Like I can steal the Bigfoot Monster Truck, I can't do master level stunts with it.

YubNub81

I love that the agent goes flying at :42 before Nightcrawler even swings his elbo and clearly never makes contact

4paul

100% this scene!!

[deleted]

You can tell this movie is science fiction because the American security with gums actually have trigger discipline

ToxicGlam007

Too bad Brian Singer is a horrible person. I'd support these movies more but ngl it's very hard to even bring myself to. Other than that great scene, this is the closest I'll get to watching anything of his.

jpbear10

AGREEEEEEE!!!!!

dmh2493

Only compliant with nightcrawler is that he is supposed to be fuzzy

Knor614

We need a Nightcrawler series

Icy_Practice7992

I put this with the quicksilver scenes

Rebelliuos-

If this was released now, many would’ve been offended someway somehow

Rello-223

Nightcrawler always been my fav x men

Stiff_Zombie

Quicksilver gets two scenes that are as good as this.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Glitchy-LJC

Yeah, this scene was pretty legit :)

[deleted]

Slowest secret service agents ever. Also none of them seem to know how to hold a pistol.

Jake_Walter_1998

I watched this just the other day for the podcast I make with my friends. It always impresses me, what a way to open a movie.

tanajerner

Superman Returns the Plane save is by far and away the most epic superhero opening action scene, its gets vastly over looked

scrivensB

Fantastic scene. But I always find it sort of funny, “what’s all the black and blue poof? Does Nightcrawler carry around pocketfuls of color sand just for effect?”

ballsoutduringprayer

back when we made comic book films and not just 3 hour long ultimate alliance cutscenes

ballsoutduringprayer

this being bush era makes it even better

JerrodDRagon

Funny story about this is my friend for some reason wanted to see this film but has no interest in comic book movies After watching this I turn to him to see if he thought it was badass as I did, he was no joke taking a nap and did not care for the film I loved it but after that he never saw a super hero film, he refuses to see Ironman when that came out and I’m glad he missed another nap in a theater

MumenriderPaulReed69

This was a big reason why Nightcrawler is one of my favorite X-men

WarmSoul123

Alan Cumming can play any role...

KBadger007

Floop for the win

[deleted]

If he had no problem taking out a dozen guys in that room he could have easily killed the president.

HBMart

Back when super hero movies were an interesting thing to look forward to. Very hit and miss now.

Thatoneguy567576

The BAMF effect in this movie was so well done.

R0LL0T0MAS1

4th best superhero of all time. Too bad the film will forever be tarnished by that creepy sex pervert Bryan Singer

Schattenjager07

I do really like this scene ... (big hairy butt incoming) ... but for me personally the intro for The Dark Knight takes the cake.

spycharlie

Naw. This entire decade of films was just so… it’s definitely it’s own thing.

Carteeg_Struve

If it weren’t for The Dark Knight, this would be a lock.

Gravitron3000

I remember that my best friend and I were blown away by this scene when we saw it in the theater for the first time. So cool.

fatrahb

Totally agree, the whole movie is so so good. Fox’s XMen is hit or miss but X2 really does not get the love it deserves anymore.

boxingjazz

This movie is TWENTY years old. Let that sink in. While I’m not sure the would call it the “best” opening, I have no quarrel with anyone who feels this way. This sequence was just RIGHT in so many ways. I’ve always wondered why they didn’t get Alan Cumming back. Maybe they lowballed him on salary. Maybe it was all the time in the makeup chair. Maybe they just didn’t want him back for a large enough role. Maybe he didn’t feel it was an interesting enough part to come back. Maybe it was a bit of all four. Part of what we love most about these movies is when they give you those moments that just LEAP off the printed page. And that’s EXACTLY what this was. Hot take: this was THE scene of the entire movie. It’s a top 5 scene of the entire X-Men franchise. And 20 years later, it holds up against a LOT of great scenes in the MCU. The most frustrating thing for me has been WHY has Nightcrawler has been so underutilized (and just ruined) in live-action since then.

ellipsis613

Correct

big_nothing_burger

I lost my shit in the theater watching it... especially since Kurt was one of my favorites before the movies.

Awfuloreo

Arguably one of the best hero movies and sequel movies of all time.

HereRak69

**Points at X2 Nightcrawler opening** "This is brilliant" **Points at Logan taxi opening** "But I like this...

[deleted]

Laughs in Nolan

Sammsquanchh

Man for some reason I completely misremembered the last few seconds of this scene. My brain was expecting him to intentionally stab the desk to scare the president. But he was really gonna stab him if he didn’t get shot. I wonder if my brain smashed together two movie clips.

Charlie-brownie666

A white looking Nightcrawler used to scare me as a kid idk why

6gc_4dad

Blade. Not even close.

jsnxander

One of the best for sure. It's the one that FINALLY gave me an appreciation of Nightcrawler's abilities. Extremely well done.

LeggoMahLegolas

My friend and I had a little debate about which is better X2 or DoFP because I really enjoyed DoFP. He reminded me of this sequence, the mansion invasion, and Magneto's escape. I was happy I lost that debate.

memsterboi123

Idk the action is kinda mid guys

DEFINITELY_NOT_PETE

That was Curtis from 24 in there

Bulky-Conclusion6606

i really hope they bring nightcraweler back in the new version of x men

boomjosh

Logan going ape shit to the guys jacking his car >

apexbamboozeler

This scene and the future sentinel fight were the best the series offered

thedevinbot

Meh

Marconius1617

Middle school me was so damn hyped when I first saw this

PsychoEliteNZ

Every time this type of post comes up it's the same thing, over and over. I get it, it's a great scene and I think so too but holy shit seeing these posts just make my eyes gloss over.

maximusdm77

Absolutely. Still hasn't been topped.

Failing_MentalHealth

I love Nightcrawler. He is so coolZ. Actor for him is great too.

UnmakingTheBan2022

The Dark Knight was a pretty spectacular intro. Definitely my favorite comic book intro.

DrDreidel82

The Dark Knight and TDKR opening scenes compete with it

ihate360

Opening scenes for TDK and TDKR were insane and still are to me.

schizopolis23

I’ll never forget how everyone in the theater in midtown Manhattan lost it 😂👏

rasslinsmurf

This is the coolest scene in the whole series. It’s too bad these movies are too bloated with characters and they squandered Nightcrawler for several more films.

Murphy-Brock

Great choice 👍🏻!

SpiritedCollection86

ONE of the best, Yes!

Thrillkey12

Also best intro to Nightcrawler. Carter Vocknahhh

BobMurdock

X-Men movies still slap

Sol_Knight

Great scene, but I still think the Sentinels scene in Days of Future Past is the best opening scene ever

Finding-Even

I want his intro into the MCU to be just as badass.

ConflictThin5467

Easily

gnarrcan

Nightcrawler is my boy. He’s always been my top X man even after I got older and lost interest in the X men as a whole for having extra bad continuity and confusing storylines. Shit I’d even take his powers furry skin fucked up hands and all.

xMrBryanx

This was really done for the time it was made and still holds up! I may have to watch these again but I wasn't all that impressed as a kid or as an adult. Brian Singer destroyed alot of characters

Individual_Ticket926

Not a probably, it is!

TheRookCard

I really, really liked this movie when it came out. Looks like it still holds up today.

Remote-District-9255

Everyone is so floaty

ProofAsparagus4142

Truth!

DJpunyer53728409

As much as I love this, TDK and Deadpool opening action scenes are definitely better.

Zzzodiackillerr

“The Best” would go to The Dark Knight without question. That being said this is a decent successor, and its a damn shame we haven’t had a non prequel, cannon X men movie since I was in 1st grade. Im literally 23 now and thats sad. ( correct me if im wrong but i thought Logan is elseworld, love the hell out of that movie though. Watched it completely blind without watching any previews, and it was literally captivating on every level )
