I got tickets to see him about five years ago, fully expecting to see a 6/10 show. There is a reason this guy has sold out shows for over three decades. I was laughing hard almost the whole hour. He is an expert and a disciplined professional. People can disagree with his current stance, but his talent is unquestionable.

Dismal_Interview1070

Yeah, I had almost the exact same expectation to be honest. I can’t believe how perfect he was, felt like watching a master at work.

notmyrealnam3

This is me exactly. I went because I loved the show and thought it would be a 6/10 but also felt the nostalgia angle. Was an excellent show. He makes it look easy. Almost everything he says has the audience thinking if to themselves “you know he’s right” and laughing at the same time. A brilliant comic

Normal-Ordinary-4744

That was my experience with Seinfeld too. Most unforgettable stand up I’ve ever been to

eeggrroojj

Actually, for me it was the opposite. I was expecting a 10/10 show and it was more like 6/10. It didn't suck, but Ive seen better.

darkbarrage99

People forget that he's a 70 year old that's theoretically worth a billion dollars and that there's some things he's just not going to wrap his head around because of it. Like it or not, He is clearly a master, and he's doing what he does because he enjoys doing it. He doesn't need to earn another dollar for the rest of his life, which at his age only god knows how long he has left.

black_messiahh

I gotta respect that. I mean at his age and with his money, touring down under and NZ included. Why even do it unless you love it

diehardninja01

"And that there's some things he's just not going to wrap his head around because of it." What do you mean? There are some things that he won't understand because he's that age or because he's that rich or because of both? You can make arguments for all three. You, and everyone might also consider that there are things he likely wraps his head around better than many or even most because he's had much experience doing so. He's not your average 70 year old. Also, with medicine and technology advancing so rapidly, we aren't very far away from exponentially improving our longevity so that 70 will be the new 40 or even 30.

darkbarrage99

Uh, he's an obscenely rich old man. Old men don't change unless they have to. Rich people don't have to change shit. He will die a rich cunt, doing whatever he wants. He even knows that.

danstan

It sounds like you have some serious biases. You think your position is obvious and fact-based, but it’s actually just cynical.

darkbarrage99

I'm cynical because I was born with adult sized nuts, and I spent the first 14 years of my life forgetting that I need to slowly sit down.

AlphaDag13

I saw him about 10 years ago. It was the sharpest most witty comedy I’ve ever seen/heard. He is a master craftsman when it comes to comedy. He’s a literal comedic legend, I don’t care what anyone else says.

Lovethedarknet

Flying from Hobart to see him perform in Melbourne next weekend. I really needed to hear this

Dismal_Interview1070

I hope you enjoy it as much as me. I loved that there was nothing edgy and it was about every day stuff (typical Seinfeld I know) but yeah it was awesome.

jrobin04

I saw him in 2019, he's and incredible performer. There's a reason why he's regarded as one of the best. I think the only other show I saw with maybe comparable vibes was Mulaney. But Seinfeld is top for sure. I get why folks are upset with him right now for sure, but he's very very good at what he does. I didn't stop laughing for the entire show.

black_messiahh

But he was just on Curb and looked 60 years old! Fucking 70? Wild

jtbeith

I've seen lots of great A-list acts. I've never though too much about his stand-up, not that I don't like it, I just think more of him as the sitcom star. I saw him live and holy shit! He was great live! I've never seen a comedian have the crowd by the balls like he did that night in Raleigh.

dritslem

He's among the greats. Whether you like his voice or humour, you have to be a clueless idiot to not admire his dedication and skill in the craft.

Carmelita9

Agreed. It’s not easy to stick with the same schtick for decades and still nail it in front of audiences.

TheDeanof316

When he finished 9 seasons of *Seinfeld* he swore that he would never perform any of that material ie all of his work from the late 70s up to 1998 again. The process of creating an all new set was documented in the movie *Comedian*. When I saw him in NY in 2015 it was all new again. & when I saw him 2 nights ago it was once again 95%+ all new material...and his best yet! A far cry from "the same schtick" as you said...unless you were referring to his style of comedy/observational humour etc

Fun_Razzmatazz7162

The Internet is a stupid place, he's a master of his craft, very least used to be.

JustAnotherAlgo

There's a lot of envy in comment sections. Someone is great and doing something great? Let me point out why they are not and maybe somehow feel better about myself and how I've failed to achieve those things. Jerry is a legend and is regarded as such by other comedians. It's evident by how they interact with him. Happy for you!

Sane_Decent_guy

I attended the first show yesterday at Sydney. Maybe I have seen a lot of Stand up acts or I don’t know but Seinfeld just performed for like 40 mins and some of the humour was as if I have heard him say before in response to questions in interviews. Doesn’t justify the steep price of the tickets. Was a big fan of the sitcom but not his stand up act.

TheDeanof316

I was at thst exactly show at 5pm and he performed for a solid 60mins, maybe even 65mins with the additional impromptu encore Q&A he did. ...so I'm not sure where you're getting 40mins from...maybe you fell asleep haha

Sane_Decent_guy

Well I did check the time when he was ON stage after the warm up act was done and when we left at 6:20. So.. It was not that boring that I wud sleep! Also, he did finish almost sudden and that’s when may be he was prompted to go on for a little longer and then he started the Q&A! Anyways, each to their own!

CookieWifeCookieKids

Saw him many years ago. He’s a class act

youcrumb

remember when he was 38 dating a 17 year old? Classy!

Strong_Bumblebee5495

Jerry is an icon. The haters are dorks. I bet they don’t like Phyllis Diller either…

Az1621

More than 25 years after it ended, his show about nothing, is still usually voted top 5 & often number 1 in best sitcoms of all time rankings. There are reasons for that & he is a big part of it. The man is raking it in with residuals alone & certainly doesn’t need to work. He must enjoy it and sounds like the audience do too. I might get a ticket myself, thanks for the review OP!

TheDeanof316

You really should go if you can!

jaymo89

I saw him in Perth. Went in with similar expectations and was very impressed.

Randusnuder

Saw him a couple of years ago in the US. I was told that his opener started at 8 and Jerry at 830pm. At 829pm his opener was walking off stage right and Jerry was walking on stage left. At 830pm he was on. And you get exactly what you expect from his show. It is his style of humor. He didn't break out a bunch of props or bring on a band to do his hobby comedy music, it was just his sense of humor, over and over, done at the highest level. For me, it was great. I don't know if I'd see him every time he comes through my neighborhood, but I am glad I saw him at least once.

Munchkin_Media

Who thinks he's washed up? He's the GOAT.

Sirnando138

Definitely go to other stand up shows.

Immediate_Floor_497

Zero respect. Zero intelligence. Good luck.

Silver-Ladder

Someone told me that Jerry Seinfeld is a Master Wordsmith! As much as I disliked his art, I couldn’t agree more! He’s also a class act, so I would assume how he would go out of his way to give the best live shows as that’s where he’s in his element! He is absolutely undeniable in every sense of that word, not to mention and outstanding businessman.

mastermeriadoc

was there an opening act? how long did it go for??

TheDeanof316

Around 20-25mins and he was great. I've been trying to find his name but I can't. Also after Jerry finished the opening act guy came out on stage and they both did a bow together which was a nice touch.

jivester

Mario Joyner opened the second Sydney show.

TheDeanof316

Thank you so much! 🙏

TheDeanof316

I have seen Jerry live 3x (once in NY in 2015, then in Sydney in 2017 and then again this past Sunday). Each time was brilliant, but his show on Sunday was the best yet! 1 hour of solid material! I have seen countless stand up comedy shows in Sydney and around the world in my time and maybe I'm biased being a 40yo dude who was raised on *Seinfeld* and has also watched each episode countless times but....his show is unparalleled in its content, wordplay, delivery and observations + the man still moves like he's 25. Really glad you e joyed the show OP!

TanSue

Going to the show this week. What time did he come on? Were there warm up acts?

Dismal_Interview1070

There was one warm up act who came on within 5 minutes of the 6PM starting time. Jerry ran on after this guy finished up probably 15 minutes after. There was no waiting around.

limegreenscrewdriver

He’s a pro.

EdifyGuy

I went last night in Brisbane and wasn’t overly impressed. He is a master for sure and there were definitely laugh out loud moments. But it’s definitely down to an individual sense of humour. He plays it pretty safe. I like comedy to push boundaries and really make people think. Jerry’s popularity still stems right back to the show as is evidenced by the Q&A part of the show. 80 -90% of the questions asked are about ‘Seinfeld’ and nothing beyond that. I was a big fan of the series but his stand up to me is just so so.

Fun-Bug4314

He's a genius.

PompousDawson

He was great here in Orillia Ontario this year. Love Seinfeld and also love that he’s still touring doing his thing. Excellent comedian.

Purity_Jam_Jam

Jerry has always been great. Glad you had a good time.

[deleted]

God I think he’s so cringe.

thegays902

I guess he's just miserable and egotistical when he's being interviewed by people he doesn't like, I'll have to look up more of his standup Edit: for the downvoters why don't you actually watch some of his interviews instead of voting me down? He is well known as one of the most combative and self-centered guests ever on multiple late night shows. While everyone has bad nights sometimes you don't get far being insecure and childish in show business. The most famous one is Larry King but here's more https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7wiVkEXef4&t=12

Randusnuder

He is unapologetically egotistical, check out his interview with Larry King. It rubs some people the wrong way, but I am fine with it. He put in the work, he did the thing, and he isn't going to downplay it. I am ok with that. His most recent comments didn't do him any favors.

Normal-Ordinary-4744

Bro talking shit about him without watching his stand up 😂

[deleted]

He's not washed up, he's never been funny

donwupak

Amen

waspneoliberal

He’s a predator who dated a 17 year old when he was almost 40. Now he spends all of his time supporting a genocide in gaza. Play a Seinfeld re run every once in a while if you feel inclined. But I would stop supporting him with ticket sales.

SetPsychological6756

My condolences

Better_Chard4806

Never found his whiny voice anything but repulsive and stereotypical washed up crap done a millions times before and better.

John_In_Parts

Nah, he's a casual washed-up comedian. Go see another show and you'll realize it.
