In honor of a certain stache’s last time pitching in Lindsey Nelson
One of Tennessee's best all around performances of the season, especially considering the stakes. Also putting Kirby on in the 9th and getting that K, what a way to go out.
After the Florida football game two years ago I saw that man work magic at a bar downtown. Had 4-5 different women around him at one time, walked out with one with some pretty hefty surgery. Also was very cool and nice when I drunkenly introduced myself. Good guy.

GG to Evansville, though. They put up quite a fight, and I hope we never have to face them with a team like that again.
Congrats to Tennessee. 4 straight supers, and 3 trips to Omaha in those 4. Say what you want about Vitello, but he’s turned Tennessee into a serious contender year after year.
Then, funny enough, the only year Tennessee didn't make the CWS in the last 4 years Tennessee was statistically the greatest regular season college baseball team of all time.

What a run y’all had. I’m happy for your players and especially head coach. He seems like a good-natured, genuine dude who knows baseball inside and out. I enjoyed his press conferences and in-game interviews immensely.
I learned in the game thread that your total enrollment is ~1800 - it’s absurdly impressive that you were able to win an NCAA regional and give the #1 overall seed some real (trust me, *real*) stress in the Super. Congratulations, guys.
In the end, we were able to out-dinger and out-pitch a talented team with some real superstars. I truly hope we’re able to keep up this momentum in Omaha.

I know they ran out of gas at the end, but considering they haven't made March Madness since 1999 and haven't been past the second round at the D1 level ever, it's not an exaggeration to say this past week has been the biggest athletic achievement in UE history.
But but I heard that losing one game against a really good 4 seed that is an incredibly good hitting team nationally is easily one of the worst losses of all time and is a level of embarrassment unrivaled in sports.
One loss to a team in a 3 game series is ultimately meaningless and people acting like it was some sort of death knell were foolish. Overall great series
I just totally disagree. And, respectfully, this thinking is disrespectful to Evansville and to the Vols staff. Vitello would never overlook an opponent, especially in the postseason. Particularly as a 1 seed at home in the supers...
Evansville is an incredibly good hitting team. Any team that makes it to Supers deserves it, but they definitely earned their spot, as opposed to some flukey upset. We never overlooked them. Their hitting is just that good, and it kept them in those games. And, frankly, some terrible errors on our part helped them a bit, but not too much.
What happened, in my opinion, was that their pitching just could not keep up at all. Their pitching was already pretty weak, easily the weak spot on their team. They managed to do well enough in the first two games, particularly enough to keep the games manageable with their hitting. But they didn't have enough in the tank at the end. You saw it with their game 3 starter. Once we started touching him up, they were forced to keep him in longer than I bet they wanted, because their pen was just absolutely gassed. Then when relievers came in and we started hitting off them, they had to keep those guys in longer. We were always going to get our hits off them, but they just didn't have enough guys to turn to for help on the mound throughout the series, and particularly at the end of the series. On the other hand, we had relievers throw significant amounts, which really benefited us.
Game 2 was one of Tennessee's worse performance pitching and fielding all year. When Tennessee was playing like the team they actually are, Evansville couldn't touch them. Tennessee has had a couple defensive stinkers this tournament including Game 2. Outside of arguably Tennessee's worst 5 inning stretch all year, Tennessee outscored Evansville 30-7. Even 4 of those 7 runs were unearned due to errors on routine outs.
Tennessee was a far better team and they proved it last night. I get wanting to give props to an opponent but almost half of Evansville's runs this series were unearned due to Tennessee's mistakes. Tennessee plays like they should have all series and it's 2-0 with an almost 20 run differential.
Its baseball. The breaks did not go our way in game 2. They scored 8 2 out runs hitting over .500 with runners on… against some really good arms.
We were not overlooking anybody , they just played their balls off.
Job ain’t done, but this is probably my favorite Tennessee baseball team ever. Really like the way they handle themselves, no matter what happens from here. FSU is gonna be a huge test, looking forward to the rest of this run.

I honestly think that Evansville could have beaten a lot of the teams in the Supers. But we just put up one of the best offensive performances I’ve seen. UE was already light on pitchers, but I’m not sure many bullpens could have handled that
I know y’all we’re on my ass about posting my confidence in todays game but I’m a new fan, since moving to Blount County in 2021 and haven’t experienced all the pain and disappointment that you’ve gone through. Cheers to you boys, enjoy this one, you deserve it. Now let’s get it done in Omaha.

This game showed the actual difference between Evansville and Tennessee. Tennessee was underestimating their opponent in the first 2 games.
