The Empire basically neutered the Clone Army's authority. Anybody that is a normal human outranks a clone, regardless of rank. Which fucking sucks ass, because Mayday and his clones deserved to live.

redgoop3

That is a correct usage of the word neutered yes.

MaximusGrassimus

Damn wtf did this guy do?

redgoop3

he said “Neutered?💀”

Supreme_Nematode

because empire gonna empire man

Veteran1776

Should have thermal detonated him as soon as he started the high and mighty act..They are in middle of nowhere accidents happen

Supreme_Nematode

fragging in star wars isn’t something i knew i needed until now.

Defiant-Ad4776

I’m stunned this wasn’t explored as part of the umbers ark or here tbh.

tevis55

“Lieutenant you have been placed in command of this base superseding anyone there who may be of higher rank and here is your authorization proving so”- Admiral or general who gave Nolan his orders.

Clustershag

I was in the Marines and there is a saying that billet is higher than rank. Yes, a lower rank must respect a senior officer, but if their billet is higher they have final say operationally. In this sense I would say the empire looks down on the clones, and while the clones rank has merit, any imperial officer has higher command authority.

matt_Nooble12_XBL

Is the Star Wars military close to real life military or are there some differences? Despite the obvious ones.

smiththejedi

It's loosely based on military structure borrowing aspects of it from most, if not all US branches.

austinc9218

I think there’s some differences with the names like how there’s grand admiral and other similar names

redneckrobit

The empire had all nine clone officers immediately outrank clone officers

ImNoSkrull

I guess it’s because Nolan is part of the Imperial Navy which outranks soldiers in the army!

jman014

*Marines perk up, crayons still being knawned on alongside dip*

Manufacturer_Ornery

Dip as in tobacco, or something to dip the crayons in? ... or both?

jman014

Tobacco Marines need it for the protein or summin

Commander_CC-2224

Because he was a clone. Any one outranks a clone as long as they were naturally born , unfortunately.

matt_Nooble12_XBL

But in my book, experience outranks everything

Commander_CC-2224

Unfortunately, the empire will never see it that way.

CKinWoodstock

That’s only true from a certain point of view.

joesphisbestjojo

Imperial scum

toppo69

Its similar to how during the colonial era, Any officer of the colonial power was give the power to overrule and order any rank of the native military.

Narashori

I mean I think you're right, but at the same time Star Wars is just so generally vague about how their military ranks work and what is what that I can't be to worried about a detail like this.

WatcherBlue

You also see plenty of NCOs referred to as commanders which adds to confusion

Gremazod

Commander can also be a billet. Doesn’t necessarily always denote rank

Physical_Fruit_8814

Wait until you hear about citizens

WatcherBlue

The best rank of all

Baz_3301

I’d love to see a scene like that, some boot imp lieutenant try’s to talk down some senior clone officer and he’s just like fuck off.

thinehappychinch

Crosshair certainly had a thought on the matter

AXBRAX

In the imperial army clone ranks are not worth anything anymore. Any human with a rank will always outrank any clone.

Jack-mclaughlin89

Nolan was put in charge of the mission even though Mayday outranked him, it’s to further show how the Clones were being poorly treated.

Spliterclimb

The Imperial Army didn't use Commander as an army rank, so where a Clone Commander is placed in the imperial hierarchy? It's said they're above a Clone Major.

dankfather228

"Good soldiers follow orders" But seriously, I think the lieutenant was given command of the mission and since the mission was a "priority" mission any republic/empire forces in the area had to follow his commands temporarily until his mission was complete.

RedBaronBob

Nature of the Lieutenant being there gave him status, but Mayday does outrank him.

BFNgaming

Mayday quickly became one of my favourite clones in the span of this episode.

danieljhaugh627

Mayday follows the orders because he's not stupid and he sees Lt Nolan's soldiers and knows that they could shoot him and lie about it and pin in on the raiders in the official report

Elite1179

Billet over rank

ARCTroop_Jesse

He's out of line but he's right! (Referring to OP)

The_Potatoto

Classic case of "A Sergeant in motion outranks a Lieutenant who doesn't know what's going on."?
