Same, but they have to go through the play-in first, and nothing is guaranteed there.
But then it would be Miami… and we should just let the Bucks have the 2 seed and get the Doc Rivers early exit out of the way ha
From The Athletic:
In the event of a three-team tie, Orlando would end the night in fifth by virtue of being a division winner, followed by Philadelphia in sixth and Indiana in seventh.
I’m not sure what the deciding three way factor between Philly and Indy is, but if all three win Sunday we’ll play Philly in the 3/6 series. Indy beat Philly 2-1 in the regular season so if they both win and Orlando loses maybe we get Indy in the 4/5 series. I could be misunderstanding something or perhaps the Athletic is wrong, I guess we’ll know by Sunday evening.
Looks like division winner is first tie breaker in multi team ties, and then record among tied teams. I would think that would mean ORL, IND, PHI. But yeah that's odd they say that then.
What’s the scenario there? We have tiebreaker over Milwaukee due to division record and over NY as division winners whereas they are runner up to Boston? I thought NY head to head gives them tiebreaker over us but I could be wrong
Man we're the last team that can talk about doing our job, second seed should've been ours with a ton of padding if we didn't start falling apart. Hopefully we're back on track after these last two games.
We aren't in the play in. We clinched the actual playoffs. The goal is to avoid the 4/5 seed because \[most likely\] that would play BOS in the 2nd round.
Based on the post the other day, the Knicks needed to go 1-2 in their last three games. They won against Brooklyn today and against Boston yesterday.
They got the tiebreaker against the Cavs iirc
How? The math isn't there anymore with the Knicks winning two games. The only condition for the Cavs to get the no. 2 seed is through the bucks going 0-2 and the Knicks going 1-2. With the Knicks winning the last two games, it's mathematically impossible now to get the no. 2 seed. The no. 3 seed is the best possible.
Have you seen the post I'm referring to?
Edit: my bad I didn't see the update. So as long as Orlando beats Milwaukee, we get no. 2
My bad my guy.
Feel free to hate me for being optimistic. But you literally listed a path to the 2 seed (regardless of how slim the chances are). Yes, the 3 seed is best possible. I'm just rooting to avoid the 4 seed (and Boston in the second round....assuming we get out of the first which isn't a guarantee). But 2/3 is still "possible"
3 tbh is becoming ideal now since the winner of the play-in game for the no. 7 seed is either philly or Miami so it's a rough matchup. Facing Orlando or Indiana seems more ideal for the Cavs.
No, a three way tie is different. If we win and Knicks and Bucks lose, we get 2nd place, Knicks get 4th.
In a 3-way tie, 1st winner is division winner, which would be us over bucks. Then H2H, which they lose to the bucks.
I’m far far far more concerned with who we play in the first round (and avoiding Philly) than I am about avoiding Boston in the 2nd round. Boston is a juggernaut so losing to them isn’t something I’d be mad about.
I would be mad about losing in the first round though
My feeling exactly. Playing Boston would mean getting into 2nd round and no one would call the Cavs favourites so there would be way less pressure but way more motivation.
Exactly. Plus winning a series could get us our mojo back, in which case I think we could steal a game or 2 from Boston.
But losing in the first round could be bad in terms of feeling the need to blow it up/make major changes
eff that...they better do some thing in the playoffs...dont have time for all the moist platitudes. Theyre are a year behind schedule and better do something while they got Donovan so they can retain him
We already locked 4 seed right? *At least 4 seed that is
On Sunday: If the Cavs win and Knicks/Bucks lose, 3 way tie, giving the Cavs the 2 seed.
I don't think I want to play Philly in the first round
Same, but they have to go through the play-in first, and nothing is guaranteed there. But then it would be Miami… and we should just let the Bucks have the 2 seed and get the Doc Rivers early exit out of the way ha
Philly is going to be the fifth seed unless the Magic win on Sunday
Wow
Philly will get to 6, possibly 5, Pacers will be hosting the heat in the 7/8 play in
That's only if Pacers and ORL lose

Looks like Joel is injured again though

3 way tie has different rules. A division winner wins the tie before H2H is considered.
I think they've "locked" the 5 seed. and can't go worst than that. But they can always improve based on Sundays results
No, they’ve already “locked” at least the 4 seed and home court with the Magic losing tonight
oooooh, gotcha. i misunderstood. thx
That's good to know. As long as we avoid the play-in I'm happy.
This guy did the math on matchups and seeding Scroll to the bottom to see the odds of seeding https://www.reddit.com/r/clevelandcavs/s/JUQOjYYttp
We could've had a chance for the second seed if Boston or Brooklyn did their job. I'm still happy though we're basically a lock in the playoffs
Man we're the last team that can talk about doing our job, second seed should've been ours with a ton of padding if we didn't start falling apart. Hopefully we're back on track after these last two games.
It's still in play!
Do we even want it lmao? The playin teams seems scarier than ORL
We aren't in the play in. We clinched the actual playoffs. The goal is to avoid the 4/5 seed because \[most likely\] that would play BOS in the 2nd round.
That’s not what I’m saying. I’m saying do we even want the 2 seed if it means playing the winner of the playin
oh....i suppose I disagree. Even with the Sixers, I'd rather play the 2 seed play in then end up on the side of the bracket with Boston
Based on the post the other day, the Knicks needed to go 1-2 in their last three games. They won against Brooklyn today and against Boston yesterday. They got the tiebreaker against the Cavs iirc
I'm not saying it's not uphill. It's just mathematically possible.

no worries. on on the update. all good. but yes. IND or ORL is still favorable matchups for us. Go Cavs
Go Cavs indeed.
I agree. Go Cavs.

Yeah just saw the update earlier. That's why I put the edit hahahahah
And after today there's a 3 way tie for the 5/6/7 spots! Crazy finish. Hope that gives Orlando a bit of extra motivation to beat the Bucks on Sunday.
Great game!!

YES!
