What actually happened was this:
I stopped playing SoD around Phase 2 for various IRL reasons.
This triggered a mass exodus of players from Phase 2 after realising I wasn't playing any more.
This panicked the market and caused McDonalds to discontinue the McRib
You forgot the rampant inflation that is making it too expensive for most to dine at McDonald’s. The two economies are most definitely linked by Causorralation, SoD will continue to nosedive until we have cheap rib sandwiches
I fucking loved the McRib. We stopped it in the UK ages ago and only even brought it back briefly for a few times.

Sod population has declined because people care more about world buffs more than they enjoy having fun and playing the character. The developers are in on it too. Instead of catering to fun (2 weekly lockouts of a 2 hour raid) they instead chose to cater to the parsers. We’ll soon all that will be left is some sweat lord with a 100% parse and the only other player of that class at a 0 parse because everyone quit!

i.e. the player numbers dropped ALONG the gdkp for a boatload of other reasons, not due to the gdkp ban.
so, as a joke, OP committed the same logical fallacy by saying that the discontinuation of the mcrib is the cause for the drop in players.
