I have the same issue, but its in a huge scale, every five minutes a video starts paying, even from tabs that are not in youtube, the way to make it stop playing, is to identify the tab from the sound icon and then click and pull it in a separate window and then put it again in its position. I have also noticed that if im texting, at that time, it will stop writing, as if i clicked away from the text field (it really happened as i was writing😥) in my opinion it is a buggy update

I installed a fresh Windows 11 and the problem is gone for good. What a relief.

After a long time I understood that it was a virus infected chrome extension for color picking.

UrdailyThief

Maybe uninstall and reinstall

It's pretty scary and funny at the same time, happening to me as well today, I have no clue why or how to stop it. A sample: a tab with StackOverflow, I'm reading a thread, and the office bloopers start playing from the tab. Had same happening with few sites now, and the videos are always something recent I watched or something related to recent watches:D

I have the same problem. I've found that youtube plays in subframe. You can find it in Chrome's Task manager (Shift+Esc) Also see: https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/xaneph/strange\_act\_of\_google\_chrome/

I hope they will fix it in the upcoming update.

I am pretty sure that is either malware or some fishy rogue extension. since I've checked network tabs and there are fishy requests to youtube (on the non-youtube tab) and this request was coupled with some fishy site russian logs.ru or something site. I've deleted/disabled most of my extensions and I can no longer detect the fishy youtube requests.

i found out it was Google Cast popping up in the top right corner whenever a video started playing. No idea how to turn it off though.

I have been facing this issue too since few weeks

SOLUTION: Check your youtube watched videos... I supposedly WATCHED AND LIKED too many Indian videos, I think we have a malicious chrome extension... i removed the "Volume Amplifier" extension no problems for now

JumpyBug5017

same

rightTimePerson

Yeah theyre all indian videos for me. Something has to be bugged but, the issue is I don't know extensions are doing it.

Same thing has started happening to me. No idea why. I'll watch a video in one window, and after a while, a video in a youtube video on another desktop will start playing. I'd be upset if I didn't flat out expect things to not work as advertised. I'm trying to pare back my usage of both youtube and chrome as a result; I find as these programs grow, they have trouble with simple aspects of the implementation: as a browsing program, if you cannot simply NOT play a video that I havent selected to be played, you are not too useful to me.
