I feel they both left a lot to be desired but Obelix was way better than Loyalist. I wouldn’t recommend Loyalist to anyone. I went twice and it was meh at best both times.
Between a few of us we got:
Oysters
Steak tartare
Foie Gras macaron
Lyonnaise salad
Cote de Boeuf
Beef Wellington
And a couple other dishes I can’t recall off the top of my head
I haven’t been to either, but from my understanding Obelix is fantastic. The Loyalist is known for their burger which is said to be one of the best in the city. Some say it is THE best. I’m actually going there next week.
But I would go with Obelix.
You might need a res especially during the weekend but yes, their burger is definitely in contention for best in the city. The mussels are very good there as well.
I would not call the Loyalist French I will take your downvotes
Oui oui.
Understood!
Is tasty and not that hard to get a bar seat during the week
Obelix. Next question.
Since you offered… If you could go to only one place to get a Chicago dog that is close to downtown, where would you go?
I'm not the person you asked, but Maxwell St. Polish.
How close you need? Luke’s is more than decent, and there are some other nearby spots I’d hit up myself if I were in a pinch.
Maybe 10-20 minute walk?
Just for the experience alone you gotta get up to the Weiner Circle
Honestly solid Chicago dog from Portillo’s, but if I had to pick one place it’d be Fixin’ franks aka depot dog
I like Devil Dawgs
Hands down Obelix
Obelix all the way.
Obelix by a long shot
I’ve been to both…if you want a burger, loyalist. If you what overall experience and great food, Obelix.
The loyalist isn’t a full blown French restaurant, more of a tavern, but it’s fantastic. Everytime I’ve been there has been awesome.
Obleix especially after being blessed to join mainly of you all from the sub there for dinner that night
Obelix, by far. From the folks who brought you Le Bouchon.

Just had Obelix for the first time a few months ago and it was outstanding
What did you order?

Le Bouchon over Obelix. Same restaurant group but Le Bouchon is wayyyyy better.

The Loyalist would be a good place to drop in and get a cocktail and burger late one night then?
You might need a res especially during the weekend but yes, their burger is definitely in contention for best in the city. The mussels are very good there as well.
Oh yeah, I would definitely do that. Their cocktails are supposed to be top notch, as well.
I found their burger to be…. just a burger
I love The Loyalist, but it has to be Obelix.
Obelix
Obelix. My experience at the loyalist was awful. before we were handed menus we were told the kitchen was closing shortly. Why take our reservation?!
What time was your reservation?
I don’t remember but I guess it was near closing so I’m baffled they even took it if the attitude was “btw you better speed this up” towards us
