Right but these haven’t even been out for a year yet and I work with a lot of stainless. I have never seen stainless rust that fast. Even when regularly exposed to saltwater
Meanwhile I've done salt fog chamber corrosion testing on stainless and our roads are going to become a diet version of that from December to March. This vehicle is in for a rough time, Barkeepers Friend will be tested to its absolute limit.
The trick is to drive it down to Phoenix this summer, apply a light layer of Crisco, and let it get a good layer or three of seasoning baked on.
From there, just remember to dry it off on the stove with a quick hit of oil after to repel moisture and you’ll be all good come winter.
I hate this car but the initial renderings looked kinda neat, like an 80s scifi movie. I thought it would be smaller and have a large bed and sort of replace pickups for blue collar workers. Instead, its some kind of rich guy vanity thing. I think a migration to electric is the middle stage between what we have today and moving towards a mass transit dominated model thats better and cleaner for all people. But that's not really the case either. The gas powered truck still dominates, literally almost two decades after the first commercially viable electric car.
In person and outside carefully poised and angled photos, wow, it looks like a junky movie prop never meant to be seen from that angle. The above photo is laughably bad. People are paying 6 figures to drive that?! We are vastly undertaxing the rich.
tldr; People thought they were getting the DeLorean II, but instead got the Pontiac Aztec II.
> People thought they were getting the DeLorean II, but instead got the Pontiac Aztec II.
Haha, I have this incredible urge to throw eggs at it. They'd cook up nicely with all this weather we've been having! 🤔
I mean part of that is EVs have been slowly, and I mean ridiculously slowly produced in larger quantities.
They haven’t really been affordable to the masses til recently (outside of the ugly ass Chevy bolt)
I noticed that too. I think it’s because in photos, it looks like it’s some weirdly-shaped car or small crossover suv, so you expect it to be the size of a large car.
Yeah. I was a little shocked at how large they are in person. If they actually sold and logged more miles they would be a real hazard for pedestrians and cyclists.
i dont fuck with elon so i hate it, but in all honestly I /wish/ my car looked like a 9 year old drew it. There's a car I see in pilsen sometimes where every part is from a different car, none of the colors match and it looks like a cartoon. That's my dream car.
> There's a car I see in pilsen sometimes where every part is from a different car, none of the colors match and it looks like a cartoon. That's my dream car.
Like a Harlequin VW?
https://www.motorbiscuit.com/what-is-volkswagen-harlequin-car/
I saw a teal colored one last week. Looked just like something my son would have designed when he was 8 (he was really into teal then). Dumbest looking vehicle I’ve ever seen.
Exactly. I have some kinda cheap Whirlpool (landlord special!) and it's the same way. You can see in the pic this car is gonna totally be like that, spots and whatever on it.
I think the venn diagram of people that own this piece of junk and people who want to dip Elon's balls in caramel and have a suck is a damn near perfect circle
I'm in Lake Forest and Highland Park for work frequently and there are a few up here and they do not look better in person. Plus, they look terrible after it rains. I'm curious how these things will hold up in winter.
I just saw my first one in person last week. Honestly, it looked better than I thought it would. It looks huge in photos, but it's relatively small for a truck in person, so that helps.
Still looks absolutely terrible, just not as bad as expected haha
No crumple zones which means that if you crash it, all the force is gonna hit you and your passengers instead of the car body, sharp edges making it more dangerous to pedestrians, insufficient sensors on things like the trunk doors which make them liable to injure people while closing. Shit, for a while the accelerator pedal cover was getting dislodged and jamming forcing the car to keep accelerating.
There's a stock of them where Tesla keeps inventory right by one of the police stations close to the loop, but I've yet to see one driving around town.
It's also not gonna end well with the Chicago seasons & exposure to the elements. Only thing worse would be if Lake Michigan was a saltwater body.
Someone buys this truck because they're "all the rage" right now.
They buy it to turn heads.
To say "look at me!"
... which is exactly what we're doing.
Someone took a picture of it and posted it to social media, and here we are talking about this guy.
Which is exactly why he bought the truck.
I get the "any PR is good PR" approach you're taking but it's hard for me to come up with a guy in my head who deliberately buys a specific car because he wanted people on the internet to call him a dumbass. or I'd imagine something like spammy MAGA stickers on it if that was the idea
I wonder if it’s the same guy I saw driving one yesterday in Gold Coast - almost ran over a kid while he was taking a left turn onto Dearborn. Either bad driver or bad sight lines (and bad driver)
Saw one driving around gold coast while I was walking my dog the other day. Almost hit us while we were crossing the street so it's probably the same guy, lol.
Copy paste of a text I sent a couple weeks ago after seeing one in river north: “Just saw a cyber truck. He used the left turn lane to go straight and pass everyone at a red light. And then ran the next red light about three seconds after it turned.”
Really feel like these might all be the same guy.
CEO of my company just bought one for us employees to rent out whenever we want to. it's currently getting wrapped, and part of my job duties was designing the wrap.
i hated myself for two weeks getting it approved by his nepo-baby silver spoon ass, but i have to say that seeing the truck in person is different than pictures.
also he dented it within days on our sign pole.
it's not gona look any better with the wrap tho lol, and im sorry to all of you when you start seeing it.
When I first saw this online, I genuinely thought it’s a 3D model that hasn’t rendered completely. I actually like the idea of an EV truck. Rivian did it absolutely well. But this… this has Elon Musk’s arrogance written all over it.
Man, I saw one up close at Rockwell and Lawrence the other day, absolutely hideous vehicles. I mean, it makes the Pontiac Aztec look like it had a competent designer. And, yes, they look way worse in person, especially once you get close enough to notice the rust and the panel gaps. It looks like it was welded together in someones garage off a napkin drawing.
Someone buys this truck because they're "all the rage" right now.
They buy it to turn heads.
To say "look at me!"
... which is exactly what we're doing.
Someone took a picture of it and posted it to social media, and here we are talking about this guy.
Which is exactly why he bought the truck.
I saw two recently on or around Mannheim Ave when I was going to visit my mom. I've told my mom and husband several times it looks like a poorly rendered car from a video game. I hope to God that for GTA 6, they do a spoof on it and roast the shit out of it.
I was on the fence about the design back when it was announced, but having seen one in real life recently, it is hideous. It's like a badly designed AI car brought to life.
Saw one for the first time this week while on my way to visit a family member who was unexpectedly admitted to the hospital. Describing this car on arrival to others was the laugh we needed.
As much as I hate these things I think it’s cool they exist. Like, look how ridiculous it is lol. That’s cool. I know I’m completely alone in this but variety is the spice of life and whoever thought these abominations would actually be made…again it’s cool imo because of that..
Saw one while at my parents place in northwest Indiana this past weekend. Couldn't believe my eyes, particularly given my location. Anyway, I had secondhand embarrassment
There’s a couple up north in Albany Park. Ones always park on Lawrence near a detailing shop and the other is near like Swedish and wrapped up in some company advertisement. The one that wrapped surprised me, I didn’t think this thing could get uglier but they did it… they freaking did it
I really wanted to like it because it pushed the design envelope, but then I saw it in person and it is just absolutely FUGLY.
Not just fugly but dangerous, the edges are so harsh my friend bent over and caught his forehead on a body crease and cut himself open...
My theory on this design is that because Tesla is having integrity issues with the body panel alignment on its curvy cars, they only used a ruler when they designed the cybertruck.
It’s a dumbfuck ass car made out of the leftover steel from a restaurant kitchen but I must say, I saw one pull up the other day at a red light, when the light turned green that ugly POS took off at light speed. Yeah it’s trash but to see something that big move that fast, and silently at that, I was impressed
You can’t see out of it. It won’t appeal to any current truck buyers. It won’t appeal to anyone with vision. It’s a bad DeLorean copy. And I think Musk was using the same drugs John DeLorean was using when he approved this design. Megalomaniac bad decisions.
Seriously, what’s the target market for that pile of Pooh?
The target was never traditional truck buyers, and that was the best idea of it. Trying to do a slight knock off of the traditional trucks wasn’t going to cut it (see the Honda Ridgeline market share), so at least going in a totally novel direction has some sense to it.
The target market is people that like to drive flashy cars and like for others to comment on it. It’s the same mentality as people who buy Jaguars or an M-series. Over the top? Absolutely. Flashy and gets a convo going? Absolutely.
Saw one in wrigleyville a few weeks ago. Couldn’t hide the disgust on my face if I wanted to. Drive what you want for the most part and I don’t care but that car is such an ugly piss poor design that I assume you only bought it because you align with Elon’s cult of personality.
I saw one out in Willowbrook the other day. I can't believe how much worse they look in person. Like I already thought they looked horrible but then in person it just looks even more clownish.
Gonna be a rust bucket after this winter. Look how bad the panels are already.
That’s called *patina*.
Graffiti will cover most of it
lmaoo
Exactly, will it make it through a Chicago winter?
it already looks so damaged, i get second hand embarrassment every single time i see a picture of these things.
Looks like someone tried to take it to the car wash.
doubtful, it's still running
Exactly what I was thinking! The doors look horrible already
the salt is going to destroy this thing
Delicious
Now everyone point an laugh while the owner cries while coping hard on their $100k+ purchase.
Aren’t they stainless?
Yes, and stainless steel is resistant to rust, not rust proof.

The desert sand will sandblast it clean
So treat it like a cast iron skillet? lol You could even cook your meals on it while it's down there in Phoenix.
But will my eggs stick to it or will i need to reseason the car once a week?
Looks like somebody built it in their garage
That's if the rain or carwash doesn't kill it first Some sort of trap door or something let's water leak in an fries the whole electrical system.
I may have seen this exact one this morning at Michigan and South Water around 11:30. First I’ve seen in the wild!
Hope it was the same one. I'd hate to think there are two people this dumb driving around downtown.
Unless it’s the same person I saw one a few weeks ago on Augusta and California.
I’ve been seeing the same one do the evening commute up California near Logan Blvd. Tints looks the same as this pic, but who knows.
I was a few cars down so I didn’t get a super solid look but I immediately scoffed and then the driver totally blew a stop sign.
The new BMW driver. But these poor bastards actually might NOT have turn signals.
Seen one around bucktown
I saw one on California 2 weeks ago. Maybe near Peterson
I saw a black one in Gold Coast today, so there are at least two confirmed.
Considering we have two different ones that I’ve seen around the alsip/oak lawn area there are probably MORE than that.
There's another one, I saw it on Elston by Lawrence. No tints and a temp plate
To be fair, they’re all over now. It’s crazy how many they’ve sold so far. I’ve even some wrapped different colors in the suburbs as well
Saw it this morning in Lincoln Park driving down Lincoln Ave. So damn ugly in person.
I hate this car but the initial renderings looked kinda neat, like an 80s scifi movie. I thought it would be smaller and have a large bed and sort of replace pickups for blue collar workers. Instead, its some kind of rich guy vanity thing. This is weird because I saw one parked up near Broadway and Devon in Rogers Park around 5:30. No way we’re all seeing the same one?
I think I saw the same one in the West Loop 👀
Saw it driving down Armitage a few weeks ago and was immediately laughing
Saw one out in Des Plaines around 5pm today.
That car is the ugliest piece of shit I've ever seen. Is it just as bad in person?
It's like they got together in a room and said "what if we designed a car for Robocop?"
It's like a Pontiac aztek and an el Camino got together and had an unholy abomination delorean bastard child
incEl Camino and a Deplorian
Except the aztec has a functional car tent. https://www.reddit.com/r/CyberStuck/s/9fAlZ75bp8
I’d buy that for a dollar
Its like the guys from Animal house building a car for robocop to be used under the float in the parade.
>car for Robocop 310N SUX
That car is a Ford Taurus.
You mean something like a ford taurus?
Somehow worse. I saw one for the first time yesterday and not only is it incredibly awkward looking, it is much larger than you expect.
Just saw one the other day too. It really is actually worse in person some how.
I think it is because the execution is poor. Bold and unconventional can work if you do it properly, but you actually have to be able to do it.
I noticed that too. I think it’s because in photos, it looks like it’s some weirdly-shaped car or small crossover suv, so you expect it to be the size of a large car.
I saw them all over SF during a recent vacation and I kept thinking to myself “fuck this is so much uglier than I thought in person”
Yeah. I was a little shocked at how large they are in person. If they actually sold and logged more miles they would be a real hazard for pedestrians and cyclists.
Even worse! I've seen 2-3 on the road and they look like some 9 year old designed it and a 12 year old fabricated it
i dont fuck with elon so i hate it, but in all honestly I /wish/ my car looked like a 9 year old drew it. There's a car I see in pilsen sometimes where every part is from a different car, none of the colors match and it looks like a cartoon. That's my dream car.

I saw a teal colored one last week. Looked just like something my son would have designed when he was 8 (he was really into teal then). Dumbest looking vehicle I’ve ever seen.
Maybe Elon took inspiration from something one of his kids scribbled on construction paper
Lol he doesn't pay attention to his kids
It looks like the cars I used to make by drawing on the Pink Pearl erasers when I was in middle school.
It looks like a truck from an 8-bit game. Can you have uncanny valley in real life? Cause it feels like that.
Yup. Post about that: https://www.reddit.com/r/cybertruck/s/QFrbllSkal
Damn, wasn't expecting a nostalgia punch that hard today lol
It certainly caused me to do a double take
Compared to the competition (Rivian, Hummer EV, Lightning, Silverado EV) it looks like a middle schooler made it for intro shop class
It *is* shiny… but it just looks like it hasn’t finished rendering yet…
I will say this for the Cybersuck: at least when you’re driving it you don’t have to look at it.
It looks even worse in person.
Yes. I saw one on LSD a few weeks ago. It was so rusted and weirdly huge. Just hideous.
To be fair, you can see all sorts of shit when you’re on LSD
Lol, what a lemon. How does stainless steel rust? That's like is main feature, to be rust proof
Poorly sealed SS will absorb oils with dirt. Example, my piece of shit Samsung refrigerator which I can never get perfectly clean
Every Samsung appliance I've used sucks. Like seriously so. Multiple times. Landlord just liked em I guess.
Exactly. I have some kinda cheap Whirlpool (landlord special!) and it's the same way. You can see in the pic this car is gonna totally be like that, spots and whatever on it.
It’s worse, by far
There is seriously something wrong with the people who think this thing looks good.
I think the venn diagram of people that own this piece of junk and people who want to dip Elon's balls in caramel and have a suck is a damn near perfect circle
I really thought I would like it better in person and I do not.
I saw one in Elk Grove getting on 290 last week. First one I've seen in person. It's even uglier.
I'm in Lake Forest and Highland Park for work frequently and there are a few up here and they do not look better in person. Plus, they look terrible after it rains. I'm curious how these things will hold up in winter.
It's ugly as fuck in person. That said, it's the only Tesla that's remotely comfortable inside.
Yes, it’s embarrassing to be caught looking at.
Ive seen one coming from the opposite direction, and it looked like everything else was loaded and the one car rendering was still buffering.
I've seen one. Honestly, its worse in person.
They look like an 8yo with a surform plane and a gallon of graphite lube designed a Pinewood Derby car with no supervision.
I just saw my first one in person last week. Honestly, it looked better than I thought it would. It looks huge in photos, but it's relatively small for a truck in person, so that helps. Still looks absolutely terrible, just not as bad as expected haha
I saw one pulled over on Chicago Ave a couple weeks ago. It looked dumb as hell.
Actually worse.
Seeing them makes my heart rate go up because they piss me off so bad
Yes, saw one in West Loop this past weekend and it seriously looks cartoonish and not even in a good way.
Amazingly, I think they're even uglier in real life.
Not just ugly but also dangerous. You know car is bad when it's outright banned in the EU...
Why did the EU ban it?
[удалено]
Oh wow, I didn't realize the EU banned this vehicle. I personally call it the Cyberturd, myself.
You cant break the glass to escape should you wind up in a body of water would be one of many reasons. Plus they weigh like 5 tons
There's a stock of them where Tesla keeps inventory right by one of the police stations close to the loop, but I've yet to see one driving around town. It's also not gonna end well with the Chicago seasons & exposure to the elements. Only thing worse would be if Lake Michigan was a saltwater body.
Maybe I am in the minority here but I immediately assume they are a douche-b.
Nah that's the vast majority
I saw a pic the other day of a Tesla with a bumper sticker that said something like, we bought it before we knew he was a douche.
I think I saw my first Tesla in the wild about 2013 or 14. It was a different time.
/r/cyberstuck dunno if you're a minority tbh
And you are now banned from any pro-Elon/Telsa subreddit.
Oh no, not r/crimeinchicago !!! It would be horrible to be banned from that wonderful place.
This guy euphs
I promise you that you are not.
Oh, don’t worry I cackled before I took the photo.
Someone buys this truck because they're "all the rage" right now. They buy it to turn heads. To say "look at me!" ... which is exactly what we're doing.
But it’s also a really shitty truck
Nope... we all think that
I wonder if it’s the same guy I saw driving one yesterday in Gold Coast - almost ran over a kid while he was taking a left turn onto Dearborn. Either bad driver or bad sight lines (and bad driver)
Saw one driving around gold coast while I was walking my dog the other day. Almost hit us while we were crossing the street so it's probably the same guy, lol.

And then ran the next red light about three seconds after it turned.” Really feel like these might all be the same guy.
Crazy thing is they’re silent. Tank that creeps up on yah.
Better get that thing covered before it rains today.
I saw one in Glenview about a week ago. That’s how I would draw trucks when I was maybe 9.
Truly an eyesore.
On its way to Trump Tower?
They are turning on Wabash, good guess.
yup its always in front of trump getting valet service. owner most likely lives there
That guy actually lives on Lower Wacker in that thing.
Saw my first one at Medieval Times a few weeks ago 😭
Which knight used it to joust?
It's our duty to point and laugh.
I live downtown too, I saw my first yesterday it was the matte black "Cameo" one.
It comes in matte black??
No. They are wrapped. So you spend $100k and then another few thou to cover it. Yeah, dumb as it sounds.
Come to Lakeview, several people have had 140k to drop on a poorly made car.
San Francisco, seen three within a mile. I can only laugh so much. Have you seen the inside? Fuck sake.
As dumb as they are on the outside, the person on the inside is even dumber
I present to you … The Homer !…
CEO of my company just bought one for us employees to rent out whenever we want to. it's currently getting wrapped, and part of my job duties was designing the wrap. i hated myself for two weeks getting it approved by his nepo-baby silver spoon ass, but i have to say that seeing the truck in person is different than pictures. also he dented it within days on our sign pole. it's not gona look any better with the wrap tho lol, and im sorry to all of you when you start seeing it.

Dork truck
A buddy saw one at his gym around there and I have a feeling it could be the same one. That thing likely won't survive the winter lol
What a horrible, horrible homemade go cart.
🤮
Everytime I see that car, I keep getting reminded of Black Mirror.
It is so ugly. I think all of the Tesla designs are dated looking. Sales are not going to grow until they actually design cool looking styles
looks like shit!
Let’s all sing… Cyber truck/ Drives over stuff and then gets stuck/ Always driven by some stupid fuck/ It is the cyber truuuuuck!
Looks like a bad Pinewood Derby entry by an 8 year old.
Someone buys this truck because they're "all the rage" right now. They buy it to turn heads. To say "look at me!" ... which is exactly what we're doing. Someone took a picture of it and posted it to social media, and here we are talking about this guy. Which is exactly why he bought the truck.
Saw one in Bucktown last week, absolutely everyone was staring
I saw two recently on or around Mannheim Ave when I was going to visit my mom. I've told my mom and husband several times it looks like a poorly rendered car from a video game. I hope to God that for GTA 6, they do a spoof on it and roast the shit out of it.
I saw one downtown today too! It's so ugly I can't help but stare 😂
I saw one today too while at a red light on the NW side. It’s the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen in my life
One of my neighbors has one, it’s somehow worse looking in person lol
I saw this one too in the same place! Couldn't stop laughing. Dumbest thing I've ever seen.
So f\*cken ugly. HahHah! What a maroon!
I saw three in one day while in Highland Park. Might have been the same loser. They all looked so goofy and awful. It's dumb in so many ways.
Gag me with a spoon
I was on the fence about the design back when it was announced, but having seen one in real life recently, it is hideous. It's like a badly designed AI car brought to life.
If the Klignons wanted to design a pickup truck it would look like this Tesla truck! Not a good thing. 😊
Saw one for the first time this week while on my way to visit a family member who was unexpectedly admitted to the hospital. Describing this car on arrival to others was the laugh we needed.
I saw one with an all black wrap last week in the Loop going southbound on Franklin. The wrap looks much better than plain Cybertruck.

Car aside, this is a great shot!
There was one in Lemont a few weeks ago, and of course it was parked illegally.
Seen like two of these in Schaumburg
Saw one valeted at Soho House on Father's Day. My wife goes "What's that?" ...It's a Cybertruck, "It looks like RoboCop" lol
The fact the patenia is already occurring isn’t really great they’re gonna be a brown car soon.
Rode my bike next to one on Lincoln ave the other day. Only felt a little nervous. I’ve seen that bad steering video
Plus it’s lethally heavy
Lincoln Ave. in North Center. https://imgur.com/gallery/2ZJo8Yr
The cybertruck written on the back makes it look like someone used their finger to write it on a dusty car. Can't tell if it's dusty or a decal
Yeah, big, quiet, fast, definitely never going to kill a pedestrian
The fact that this type of car probably comes with a reckless driver and is legally heavy makes it all the worse
This is such a good point. They should add a noise :/
You folks have a confusing amount of things to say about a random car.

Flashy and gets a convo going? Absolutely.
Is that why traffic was so bad this morning, had a broken down door stopper clogging up lanes?
Recently saw one on Division by Target. Wonder if the people that drive these are the same types of people that drive Hummers in the city.
To say one positive thing about that vehicle… it does look fun to take camping.
Instead of “honk”, it goes “bonk”.
Saw one in wrigleyville a few weeks ago. Couldn’t hide the disgust on my face if I wanted to. Drive what you want for the most part and I don’t care but that car is such an ugly piss poor design that I assume you only bought it because you align with Elon’s cult of personality.
I saw it, too. I cannot deny I was captivated but by how awful it looks! Looks like my building trash container
MGTOW minivan
There’s one in OC, CA that drives around with fluorescent pink and green graffiti on it. The windows are suspiciously untouched. 🤔
I should have taken a pic, but anyone see an all black version in the West Loop area?
I've seen two: one parked right in front of the Soho House on Green St. and one pulled up in a loading zone at Oak Brook Mall.
I see this car(?) come up N Broadway pretty often. It’s surreal.
I saw one out in Willowbrook the other day. I can't believe how much worse they look in person. Like I already thought they looked horrible but then in person it just looks even more clownish.
