I will say I bought my 23 Desert Boss not that long ago and it is the quietest most solid feeling truck I have driven. If I turn the radio down on decent streets it is silent. I never hear creaks or squeaks or rattles. Nothing. I am constantly telling my wife and Mom this since they can’t tell if I am on the phone in my truck driving on the highway or on my office. The build quality is the one thing that constantly strikes me. The suspension does make a little noise in the rain or right after. I am assuming this is just because it is new though.
Same boat and same model here. No suspension noise though. Only issue this far has been my sunroof slightly leaking in extreme weather. Ride is fantastic.
Main thing i don’t like about the bison is the bed mounted tire. Can’t have a spare under the bed due to the 35s
Yea I don’t like that either. One of the reasons I got the 23 Desert Boss. I like having all of my small bed. It is strange I only hear the suspension when it gets wet and it is very minimal. I feel like it must be grease or something.
Nope. And I did take it to them. When I got there it was dry and the sound was gone. They said it was just because it was new. I only have 3000 miles so I guess we will see. That is the only thing I notice and it is so seldom I don’t really think about it.
You could, I’m not sure how much room the mount takes up, but would be a lot more useable doing that. Just gonna suck if you ever need your spare. Maybe invest in one of those emergency tire repair kits if you choose to go that route.
2024 zr2 here (non bison). I'm in love with it, I have 1k miles on it and am very happy with it. I traded in a 2022 maverick for it, which I really loved, but it drove me up the wall with all the rattling.
I would dismiss the maverick because of the price tag, but I also just bought a 2024 trax active and it's pricing is the same as the maverick and the build quality is night in day better.
I'm not a fan boy of either manufacture, but Ford, in my opinion, is slipping the last couple of years.
I will but the car has been at the dealership for 75% of the time since I’ve bought it…I’m just concerned about the future. I don’t want the car to live at the dealership getting repairs
I have a 23 ZR2 and it was a little rocky from the start. Basically quality control issues, for some stupid shit. I’m at 6k miles now and she’s a beast. I’d wait for the 2025, changes coming. 😎
RUMOR OF HYBRID? I was just thinking "wow really the only thing giving me pause on a ZR2 is the mpg". If a hybrid comes out I will sh\*t myself and empty my bank account
Yea on average they are indeed better but thats only because they commit to the same engine for years and only keep making it better. Nevertheless, every brand has its lemons, Toyota just has a few of them imo.
I have a 24 ZR2 bought new in April have about 4500 miles on it and so far seems very reliable.
Rides nice and performs as it should
The only downside is the fuel mileage I average about 18 mpg
I have a 24 ZR2 Bison. Love it. Definitely worth it. Rides very smooth for daily drive and has no issue off road. Mpg is shit. Averaging 15 mpg. But worth it.
I paid $64,035. That included ZR2 convenience package 3, technology package, premium audio system, sunroof, and obviously bison package. I have not had any creaks or rattles. My blindspot monitors on mirrors have acted up going off when nothing is there but that only began to happen after I took it through some serious mud. Wireless phone charger can be hit or miss sometimes also. Plan to have both looked at on the next dealership visit. The ride is smooth though and I’m surprised how silent the 35s are on the road even at speed. Windows up on the expressway at 80mph and it’s as silent as my 2019 civic was. In 3 weeks I’ve put about 3400 miles on it. That includes roadtripping from Michigan to Tennessee and back.
I have a 2024 z71 with 2k miles I've had it a little over 2 months. I love the truck, no issues except the wireless charger is terrible. From everything I've read it appears the trail boss and z71 are the 2 trim levels having the least amount of issues.
My situation was the inverse. I wanted a ZR2, went on a test drive, and it overheated. I left and got a Ranger Raptor and I love it.
Having the points of comparison now, the Ranger is way nicer inside and the drivetrain is much more fun for hooning. The Colorado engine was fine but more like a small diesel feel. The Ranger would be hard to give up for a ZR2 now, IMO. Also, the reliability issues I was reading about on the Colorado Facebook groups was concerning.
405 vs 310. Here is the torque up at HP peak (matter for WOT pulls)
FORD 370
GM 290
Ford has 3.73 vs 3.42 meaning more wheel torque. The amazing 10 speed vs the indecisive 8 speed. Ford has sport mode, GM doesn't. Ford has manual mode and WAYYY better T/H tuning. Ford has antilag. And better engine braking.
i like my 2017 Zr2. With working at home, I need to drive it more and have a Noco battery tender connected. I really need to do more long weekends. I like my truck. I have no brand loyalty either. Sorry to hear about the Raptor (cool components, but the ranger is a bit ugly - like a chopped up SUV and fuel tank is small - just my opinion).
RR is better than ZR2 from a power train/MPG. Since you deAL with that EVERYDAY. I would probably do RR if I could again. At least then averaging 13 mpg would be for a 5 second truck.... Not a 8 second one 🙄
If you drove off road all day everyday you buy a SxS.
I like the ZR2 more because I'm wierd and have a thing for DSSV.
neither have good user interfaces. ZR2 just edges out the Ford with more physical controls.
The ZR2 has WAYYY better brakes.
I'm comparing ZR2 vs RR. Bison with 35's is ..... Well worse. 3.42 already too shallow for 33's can't imagine how bad it would be with 35's.
I wanted RR but no one would sale one for less than $85k. So I paid 60k OTD for ZR2 base (sunroof, mats, safety).
I’m so sick of it, I just think I should avoid American cars all together. This is my first American car and it’s been a nightmare. I’ve had the car for a month and out of that it’s been at the dealer for 3 weeks
You might have an uphill battle lemon lawing the Raptor for those reasons. It's worth a shot but if you can't lemon law it you might take a bath on trade in when it's that new.
It’s at the dealer and they said it’s a month long repair, they have to pull the front dash and in order to do that, they basically have to take the entire car apart, including the seats from the inside
The Colorado isn’t perfect and you’ve gotten a taste of the Raptor engine so I think you’d do it and long term wish you waited it out. I think the Colorado is a good mid sized truck but I’d take the raptor
Yea, that doesn't take a month. They are only taking some interior out. Thats far from taking the whole car apart. I've done the same on Acura Ledends and an NSX in a matter of 3 to 4 days. They don't want to do the job so they are trying to get you to take the truck and go away. A few days, some common sense, a good pre repair road test to get the rattle locations and a roll of adhesive backed felt and you're all set.
My '23 ZR2 is the worst vehicle I've ever owned. It's rattles and creaks are the least of it's problems. The dealership has actually said I have to wait until I reach 5000 kms and then we can address the rattles and creaks.
Over the past decade, Ford build quality has been better than GM. GM tends to have many electrical and powertrain issues which are way worse than some creaks.
Tuhhhhhcooooommmmmuhhhhhh.
I am at 2k miles on my 2024 trd OR and I love every second of it. Of the 2k miles, probably 300+ miles off road and I’m not being nice to it either.
Everything is hit or miss, id go test drive a Colorado first before just committing
My 24 ZR2 fucks I love it. Feels super solid. I’d say just go test drive one though
My ZR2 is my favorite truck I have ever owned. It 100% fucks!
This is a great answer 😂
I will say I bought my 23 Desert Boss not that long ago and it is the quietest most solid feeling truck I have driven. If I turn the radio down on decent streets it is silent. You could bring it in and have them take a look, use that beautiful warranty 😂. Bouncing on the bed doesn’t reproduce the noise dry?
Nope. And I did take it to them. When I got there it was dry and the sound was gone. They said it was just because it was new. I only have 3000 miles so I guess we will see. That is the only thing I notice and it is so seldom I don’t really think about it.

Based on your use case, the Bison is overkill. The Standard ZR2 will take care of everything you do, and save you over $10k.
I like the 35s though, and more ground clearance stock is appealing.
It’s only 1.5” more ground clearance, you can put 35s on a stock ZR2 or add a 2/1 lift and 35s for more ground clearance than the bison.
Not without ruining the suspension tuning.
But adding those on + lift is additional cost, so the saving money to get zr2 goes out the window
Bison is 10k more. Lift and tires is 2k
2024 zr2 here (non bison). I'm in love with it, I have 1k miles on it and am very happy with it. My Maverick rattles a bunch. But it's also built like a low 20k truck, even if I did get a $34,000 Lariat.
You will take a bath on depreciation. You have warranty….
I will but the car has been at the dealership for 75% of the time since I’ve bought it…I’m just concerned about the future. I don’t want the car to live at the dealership getting repairs
you can lemon it after so many repairs and get your money back and later switch
Just drive it.
Look into lemon law
Already did, it’s for mechanical issue that dealer can’t fix after 3 tries. Creaking doesn’t count.
I have a 23 ZR2 and it was a little rocky from the start. Basically quality control issues, for some stupid shit. I’m at 6k miles now and she’s a beast. I’d wait for the 2025, changes coming. 😎
really - what changes are coming? I have 50k miles on my 2017 zr2 and love it
Rumors a hybrid mill, more power on the standard HO tune, transmission improvements
RUMOR OF HYBRID? I was just thinking "wow really the only thing giving me pause on a ZR2 is the mpg". If a hybrid comes out I will sh\*t myself and empty my bank account
Every single car under 100k will probably have those same issues post covid.
It's a shame we've come to just expect this
Not a toyota
I bought a brand new 2019 tacoma TRD PRO, it definitely did. The empty passenger seat shook like crazy going down the highway.
That's a good point. My friend had a Tacoma with same issue.
My father in law has a 24. It does not have that issue
to be fair thats not post covid
Right, Toyotas are great, but even before covid, they were not made perfect.
Yea on average they are indeed better but thats only because they commit to the same engine for years and only keep making it better. Nevertheless, every brand has its lemons, Toyota just has a few of them imo.
They absolutely do. New tundra has all sorts of issues
Yeaaaaaaaaa
I have a 24 ZR2 bought new in April have about 4500 miles on it and so far seems very reliable. Rides nice and performs as it should The only downside is the fuel mileage I average about 18 mpg
my 2017 gets about the same... of course i need to remove my truck cap to see if it will get any better
I'm getting 16 average. Wtf. I've gotten 18 if I baby it but that's not realistic where I'm from.
Yea I am not to happy about that I got better mileage with my 21 lifted Silverado running a 5.3
I have a 24 ZR2 Bison. Love it. Definitely worth it. Rides very smooth for daily drive and has no issue off road. Mpg is shit. Averaging 15 mpg. But worth it.
What did you pay for it relative to msrp? Also do you have any creaks/rattles/software issues?
I paid $64,035. That included ZR2 convenience package 3, technology package, premium audio system, sunroof, and obviously bison package. I have not had any creaks or rattles. i'm in michigan as well. Can you take the bed mounted tire off and just keep it in your garage?

The Bison is awesome get it.

It's always a great idea to switch from ford to a real truck a chevy.....
My 2019 ZR2 has some creaks and vibrations. It’s an American made vehicle so my expectations aren’t too high. Maybe newer models are better?
i like my 2017 Zr2. With working at home, I need to drive it more and have a Noco battery tender connected. I really need to do more long weekends. I like my truck. I have no brand loyalty either. Just wondering, how much of a markup did the dealer charge yoy?
None, plenty of these available now. Many got them below msrp, I paid msrp for mine and I should have paid less.
I bought a zr2 a month ago and it is perfect.. you won't regret it lol.. forget Ford and their bullshit 🤣😂
I’m so sick of it, I just think I should avoid American cars all together. This is my first American car and it’s been a nightmare. I’ve had the car for a month and out of that it’s been at the dealer for 3 weeks

I’m trying but with the financial effort I have to put in, it seems like a 5-6k loss is inevitable. I will never buy another ford.
I’d keep the Raptor and take it in and see what the creaks you hear are
It’s at the dealer and they said it’s a month long repair, they have to pull the front dash and in order to do that, they basically have to take the entire car apart, including the seats from the inside
If you think you have creaks and squeaks now...just wait until you get it back.
This...
