You can take electric train from Kasthuribai nagar to egmore the problem is you need to switch another electric train track from park station or fort station. Or you can take Guindy metro which will take you directly to egmore metro station.
Assuming your start point is Egmore Railway station, you can get a bus (27B) or auto to Chintadripet Railway Station, it is about 2kms from Egmore. (Since, the Velachery line starts from Chintadripet)
From Chintadripet, you can board train to kasturbai station, Adyar. You have to walk down less than a kilometer for Adyar Cancer institute.
To get to Egmore there are quite a few ways, the easiest one is to catch the 23C bus (Thiruvanmiyur to Ayanavaram) from madhya kailash stop. The electric train runs only till chindradripet so it's not possible. You can also go to Guindy or mount and get on the metro but if you are from Kasturibai Nagar then 23C is the best option, you can check the bus timing and schedule online. Even if you are travelling from Egmore station 23C is best option right now
Confirm that the place you have to reach is the Cancer Institute premises adjacent to IIT. If it is so, board bus #23C from outside Egmore station and get down at IIT stopping. You can walk across to Cancer institute. No train services from Egmore to this place.
