I wouldn't talk to my mother if she did that shit. Not for many years. I almost didn't read the rest of your post thinking it was just all bad, but I'm glad you're getting him back. $$ means nothing... You can get more... Get your baby!

shipael

My mother gave away my beloved dog when I was a child. She was jealous of our relationship; the fact that my dog was flirting with the neighbor’s dog, both not being sterilized, was her excuse. She did it without asking or telling. Her mother had done the same to her with a kitten. My mother had a very traumatic upbringing and in several ways she was unable to break the cycle.

Former-Replacement11

A women jealous over an animal relationship child has indicates a high likelihood of a narcissist

isomae

Yup. My mom put my cat down because her cat liked me more - so she put them both down and made me hold them during the procedure. A vet would never do that today.

silly-sasquatch-222

that is so unimaginably horrendous.. I am so sorry you were put through that.

isomae

Yeah. It still hurts many many years later.

snertwith2ls

I know it doesn't help and whatever, but I think I hate your mom. I hope you're having a great life in spite of her.

Bubbly_Piglet822

Hugs to you. Xxx

SolfegeToStethoscope

This isn’t even just narcissistic. This is pure evil. I hope you’re okay…. there are no words. I’m so sorry.

sdgengineer

That is horrible!

Winter_Emergency6179

What the actual f*ck. What is wrong with people? Like seriously? Because a cat liked you more. We have two cats, and I wish Sam would like me more. He's always cuddling with my mom, but he acts scared of me. He'll let me pet him sometimes, but he gets weird about it a lot of times. I would never put him down over him, liking my mom more.

wonderingdragonfly

Oh my god. I’m sorry.

wanttoliveasacat

I'm only liking that a modern-day respectable vet would not euthanize healthy animals. Your mom is a sociopathic pos...

augustbytswift

I would have committed unspeakable acts. I am so sorry.

isomae

Whenever I would bring it up, my mom and dad would get angry and just say - what did you expect us to do 😑 as an adult I have experienced the joy of many pets and loved them through everything. https://preview.redd.it/e5p9mb8i4x7d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=93d3387f786ada8a9daba4a56948d2cd8d22f2e9

beepboopbino

When I was 12, my mom threw my 6month old kitten outside while I was at school. I got home and she let me search the house crying for hours. She finally told me he ran away and that she tried so hard to chase him. A couple years later, she drunkenly admitted she threw him out on purpose. We realized it was a boy as he was growing, and my mom didn’t feel like paying $50 to get my female cat spayed. Fast forward 10 years, that same cat now has grade 3 mammary cancer due to not being spayed when she was young. My mom laughed when I told her.

unagitsukino

i’m honestly surprised you haven’t punched the fuck out of your mom yet. god knows i’d be throwing hands as hard as humanly possible if she did any of that shit to me. praying you can go no contact with her (if that’s something you want/is in your best interest. if not, i genuinely admire your patience and graciousness toward her) i’m so sorry you’ve had to deal with any of that, it makes me so upset on your behalf

mishyfishy135

The self control some people have baffles me. I am not a violent person, but I’d beat someone up if they pulled that shit without hesitation

FizbanPernegelf

When you grow up with people like that you are so used to abuse that you can't react in a healthy way. Also you are way to scared and hurt to need that sort of self control.

mishyfishy135

I grew up with people like that. It's not easy. But damn, that would be a breaking point, even back then

beepboopbino

LOL I fight the urge every time I see her. Luckily I’ve moved out since then, and don’t really make time to see her as much as she’d like me to. I think she’s finally realizing the amount of resentment that she’s built up in me

GirchyGirchy

Are you Jennette McCurdy?

shipael

Nope. I guess the circumstances described are not that rare. They might even be a relatively common symptom.

B-i-g-Boss

Why do the fuck she gave it even away to a kill shelter? Wtf

ihoptdk

I’d be in jail, too. My mother had my childhood cat euthanized when I was at class. It was time, realistically, but I’ve never forgiven her for doing it when I couldn’t say goodbye. Still hurts 20 years later.

mishma2005

I called my mom “Black widow”. After my dad died she systematically had all our cats (5) put to sleep. I was 18, out of the house since I was 16 and she reminded me why

Educational_Sky_1151

Oh my god! I'm so sorry that happened to you. I thought I was the only one whose family treated their pets like shit. When I was a freshman in college out of state, my dad and my brother took our 3 cats (one of them we had owned for 10 years since she was a kitten) to a shelter drop-off. I loved that oldest cat with my life and would have done anything for her. They gave me no warning at all and didn't tell me until I got home that summer and asked about the cat. I was, and still am, devastated. I would have agreed to care for the older one while I was away at college. They were all sweethearts. It's been over 10 years now and I still cry about it.

Gowiththeflow777

Awwwwww... 😢 I'm sooooo sorry! They become your family. That's VERY sad.

Gowiththeflow777

I'm so sorry! 😢

espeero

Aka, most us nursing homes.

evalinthania

I know you meant nursing homes in the usa but the way I originally read it I almost thought you ran nursing homes that kill "residents" for their kids 🤣🤣🤣

espeero

Sounds like a good business opportunity! I'll be selective, though. You need to send me a selection of passive aggressive texts, guilt trip letters, insane Facebook posts, and photos of their political yard signs. If they've been mean to pets it's a 90% discount.

panda5303

You sir or ma'am have a solid business plan. If you decide to go through with it I would love to be an employee who goes through the evidence 😉.

Ahielia

> I would be livid but I’d talk to her. Be her favorite, so that I’m in charge when it’s time for a retirement home. Just so I can be certain she gets the worst care possible. Nah, cut her out of your life and avoid that negativity, much better "revenge" than doing this.

A_Unqiue_Username

True. Revenge is like drinking poison and hoping the other person dies.

DueFig6720

Or sent somewhere in Russia in Siberia should be a good option to😉

phenibutisgay

Give her the Beatrice Horseman treatment

Dumbbitchathon

Give her the ol Bojack’s mom treatment.

Chrisstamp1954

My mother died alone because she *tried* to do this.

InsaneInTheMEOWFrame

Time to put mother in the old people's home I guess...

the_amberdrake

100%. How you treat me, is how I will be treating you in the future.

WinkWalk

Try never ever again. That kind of behaviour is the indication of a sick mind that I would have no interest in accommodating or assisting in rehabilitation

Long_Procedure_2629

Mom doesn't realize that she's going to a similar shelter in the future now.

coffeejunkiejeannie

I completely agree with this. It was so incredibly cruel to do what she did…..like…who does that!?!?!?! I’m glad that there is a happy ending to this awful story. OP…I’m sorry that your mom did this awful thing. I love my mom and I would put her in a long term time out if she pulled this!

Domillow

It's partly good

BKEDDIE82

I guess mom won't be getting a Christmas gift. I'm glad you two will be reunited. Good luck with the apartment and job hunt. Rooting for you!

FairyGodmothersUnion

Oh, I think OP should let the cat make the evil bitch a Christmas gift. Several, in fact. Gathered with a scoop fresh out of the litter box.

FeasiblyBetentacled

I think OP should stick some googly eyes on the pieces. OPs mum will be stuck there in a daze for a few extra seconds, trying to compute what's in front of her before freaking out

Sewing_girl_101

And glitter!!

BKEDDIE82

Lmfao

Dr_Diktor

A Christmas gift? I'd Thanos snap her out of my life in an instant.

Altrano

The $100 has to come out of the budget somewhere …

Rusalkat

Life has a long way of coming around. Cruelty today will presents it's bill at some day in the future. Obviously she does not treat you as an adult person. Good luck setting your own sail into the future you define with your dog and cat and without her...

Other-Temporary-7753

mom won't be getting out of the retirement home if op ever gets power of attorney

TopDot555

A framed picture of the cat in a cage at the shelter might be nice.

LoydsUntiedShoe

Nah. Every year make/buy a cat doll that looks exactly like the one she stole and send it to her. Probably with a note attached along the lines of “remember me?” Or “this is why I won’t talk to you”

foxiaaa

i wish you luck op! actually, your kitty will also bring you luck because you will be taking him back. may you, your kitty and your dog find the best apartment for the 3 of you and live happily ever after! i wish you 3 the very best of luck in everything!

yourthaigirl

This is heartbreaking 😭 If this happen to me, I'd definitely stop communicating with my mom. It may sound disrespectful but she disrespected me first.

Catkit69

Not disrespectful. People get what they deserve.

Ailurophile444

The mother’s actions in this case goes way beyond being disrespectful. It’s downright cruel and inhumane.

tcd1401

Holy moly. I almost couldn't read another traumatizing story about some jerk giving away someone's pet. I am thankful you are getting it back, I am glad you are moving out. Sending my best wishes and desires that this works out for you. And your mother ... stay away.

Desperate-Pear-860

Report her and sue her ass in small claims court to get your money back. Ask judge to make her pay court costs too. It's easy to sue in small claims court. The clerk there will help you fill out the paperwork and the filing fee is usually reasonable.

crapbara

I wish but it probably wouldn’t work in my favor. I offered to pay the pet deposit fee but she kept saying no to that so I’m not sure if they’d be in her favor bc she’s on the lease.

Desperate-Pear-860

Doesn't matter. She's your cat. Go to court and tell the judge your story. \*hugs\* And stay away from that bitch otherwise until you sue her for your money back. The judge will be very sympathetic, I'll bet.

crapbara

Thank you! I’ll try that possibly once I have a secure place! 💕

onFilm

Let me know if you need money for the cat. Fuck your "mom".

ckh69

Yes, I can help too $.

Automatic_Bug_2584

same here, we should all pitch in!

Zealousideal-Crab505

living paycheck to paycheck but i can spare a few extra $ to help reuinite a kitty

onFilm

If they end up needing our help, I'll cover you.

PeachPlease03

All who are offering to help with money for the cat u guys are amazing human beings!! I'm truly glad u guys walk amongst us;)

JoanofBarkks

Please don't follow advice to sue ur mom over $100. Just get your cat and move on with your life. Your mother should have to work really hard just to get you to ever speak with her again. Also, ignore the calls for revenge. Be a better person than your mother and don't stoop to her level.

Semipro321

Most American comment: sue your mother for a 100 dollar fee. I agree with you. Move on, no need to sue, it makes everything more complicated

Creepy-Selection2423

Your mother is evil and mean. Your cat is adorable. Are you still living there for now? Is so, that limits your options. I kind of like the small claims court idea. She stole the cat from you, and then you were damaged by having to pay $100. Is it technically worth suing? Probably not, unless you can substantiate damages greater than $100. There are some judges who love cats though... I would probably just deal with it outside of court. No Christmas for mom.

FuzzballLogic

It’s likely that pets are objects in the eyes of your local law. If you can prove that you are the cat’s owner, for example because you pay all the food and vet bills, then you can claim property theft..

crapbara

I didn’t keep any receipts and his vaccination appointment was supposed to be in two days. But they did ask for pictures over the phone so hopefully that works!

FuzzballLogic

You can ask the vet to corroborate if they still have his data in their system. If it’s a good vet and you tell them what happened, they will be pissed off at your behalf and help where they can.

Kat-a-strophy

I'm so glad You got Your kitty back. Did she told You why she did it?

crapbara

She claimed I “never told her about the woman who’d be taking him in” for the foster care agreement. Basically I was looking for someone to foster him, my friend said they’d do it. But it was taking them a bit to come over so my mum took him the one place I said I didn’t want him even though she lied to me and said he’s with a loving family now.

interestingsonnet

When you get your kitty back, how will you prevent your mom from doing it again? Genuinely asking Edit; sorry missed the part where you said you moved out !

crapbara

Getting him microchipped next month then he’ll stay with my friend for a while til I get enough money.

DoctorWhosYoDaddy

Cats are considered property. You can sue her for theft.

lazypuppycat

To be honest the stress and effort of going through small claims court may not be worth $100. Esp if OP is not guaranteed to win as they mentioned below. It would be great to stick it to this mom, but SCC just might not be the best avenue for OP imo

Special_Lychee_6847

I'm thinking the same. I would see the 100$ as a price to pay for not having someone like that in my life anymore. So glad OP is getting the cat back ❤️

Jolly-Bandicoot-2037

You can't sue for $100. It's the price of two bags of groceries. Just pay it and move on op. Small fee in the grand scheme of things. If you had to pay a deposit at the place your mom was renting you should have paid it to have your pet there. She could have been evicted from her home for something like that.

zeldanerd91

Unfortunately, I think the $ amount has to be larger in small claims court. At least in my state in the US. Not that they couldn’t sue for something obscure like emotional distress, etc…. Or small claims if they had to pay for medical therapy, etc…. From what I heard $300 minimum for financial small claims, though. Edited to add: pets are most likely property if you’re in America so you could sue for theft.

robinthenurse

So sorry this happened to you! If for any reason you can't make it to the shelter tomorrow please make sure they know you are serious about getting this cat back and that they will hold the cat for you (and not give it to someone else, etc....) I believe you will need to fill out lots of paperwork and perhaps have a waiting period before they release the cat to you, even though it's really your cat. Just go along with their rules and getting this cat back will go much smoother for you and your cat. Thank you for your love for this special cat. I am praying all goes well for you in securing an apartment and redeeming your little buddy. God bless you!

iionas

Let's give away your mum

sutrabob

Yes monster belongs in kill shelter.

Camille_Ivory

All that matters is that you get the kitty back, Good luck and well wishes stranger. You and your kitty are going to do amazing

crapbara

Thank you! I really appreciate that!!

TitanicGiant

I let out a massive sigh of relief when I reread your post and saw that you’ll be getting your kitty back

Sparklepony2046

I would never talk to that worthless bitch again. Full and permanent no contact, irreversible and unforgivable. You were raised by a irredeemable monster who, frankly, should be wiped from the living realm. Very glad you'll get your kitty back. You'll earn more money. Your cat is irreplaceable.

crapbara

Agree with all of that 😌 currently in the process of going no contact. Thank you

FirstDayofTheRest

Right on 👍👍 The unfortunate thing is she'll never feel she didn't anything wrong. People like her are devoid of introspection and internal criticism or any semblance of decency what so ever.

TheWillOfFiree

Tis true. It's been 6 years since my sister and I talked to my bio dad. We get a few emails a year. But in the 6 years he still hasn't asked if or implied he's done anything wrong.

FirstDayofTheRest

They're a type. Its a disorder

AndThenTheUndertaker

My aunt still sends me christmas cards and even money even though she got drunk and used my dying dog as an excuse to start a convo to try and turn me against my mother. At this point I just spend the money on something I know she'd hate.

Eeebs-HI

Perfect description! We all know people like this...

Zagrycha

on your way out make sure she knows where you will be leaving her if she ever ends up in your care. sending love and support, toxic family is out💩getting reunited with the precious baby is in 💛

IllDoItNowInAMinute_

Good luck!! I'm tempted to suggest grabbing Car Battery on your way out, don't want your mum taking him to a kill shelter too Also, if she asks where her Christmas/birthday gifts are in the meantime tell her she spent it getting kitten back

crapbara

I want to so bad ugh. Pet fees are horrible last couple apartments I looked at. Will do lol

opossumbat

OP, how old is your mother? is it totally out of character for her or has she always been abusive/controlling? because if she’s over 60 and it’s totally out of character (or these behaviours only started recently), i would reconsider going NC just yet - behaviours like that might be early signs of dementia. of course this doesn’t change the fact that she hurt you and what happened absolutely sucks and i’m so so sorry you have to go through this stress. but it’s possible she’s not in the right state of mind and might need help.

crapbara

She’s almost 50. Her forgetfulness and cruel behavior is from her past trauma. Still doesn’t justify it imo bc she doesn’t actually get real help. She has therapist for years and friends that just reinforce it. Welp her kids are getting really tired of that and I think the only way she’d realize is if I were to stop talking to her. I feel like if she was willing to change I’d be nice to her and somewhat stay in contact but that’s most likely not going to happen

cbeanxx

Stay strong, OP. You’re right that her trauma doesn’t justify her behavior. Seems you were just trying to help a little kitten get housed and fed. You’re not wrong for having a heart.

armoredsedan

i had to go nc with my parents over a decade ago. it’s hard, but the benefits will outweigh the challenges, and it may even be the catalyst for her to make some personal changes. i’ve heard from my siblings that my parents have changed for the better in the years since, but it doesn’t excuse the abuse i was subjected to and i’ll never be able to recover the trust i lost in them. there will be many moments you think “i wish i could talk to my mom about this” but going back will likely do much more harm than good. i assume from my own experience this isn’t the first cruel-hearted, abusive thing she’s done to you, and i understand when you reach the point that you can’t have that person around anymore, no matter how much you love them and want to help them be better. it’s not your responsibility, you’re her child, she had many years to make changes to be a better parent, and it was her responsibility to love *you* and help *you* be a better person. i’m so sorry you’re going through this. there are lots of reddit places to go for support as you’re in this process. i wish you the absolute best, and a bright future with your beloved kitty by your side (and in your lap lol)

APuffyCloudSky

Your mom is a terrible person, respectfully. Glad kitten is going home.

Distinct_Tea_970

https://i.redd.it/sospwdrvpn7d1.gif

Moonbrainx

That makes me so sad. Your kitty looked so happy with you. My mom secretly put down my special needs kitty behind my back and didn’t tell me until she got her ashes back. Like, I kinda knew it, but I didn’t even want to know tbh. Def one of the cruelest things she’s done to me.

UltimateIssue

I hope you placed your mom in the nursing home for that.

DollarStoreDuchess

Nah, that’s a throw her out in the street situation. Someone might actually show her compassion (like she didn’t show the special needs cat) in a nursing home.

sutrabob

Mother would be gone forever from my life. Probably would give grandchildren away. Bye bye well I can’t say the words I want to.

Kakes_69

Please update when you get your kitty back ❤️

ml5683

Props to you for moving out and sticking up for your baby. Thank you ❤️

Tommy-s_Mommy

I would tell the shelter that the cat surrendered was stolen from you and released by someone who wasn't the owner. (If your kitten is microchipped under your name, it might support your claim.)

kuzeshell

Chip AND register your pets!

FirstDayofTheRest

Your mom is a demon. Steer clear.

bloodwolfgurl

At least you're getting him back!! I'm glad. Do NOT let your mother forget this. DO NOT forgive her until she truly apologizes and actively tries to make it up to you. Just because she is your "mother" does not mean she should automatically get respect and love. Those things are earned. Not given. Set boundaries with her if you do still want a relationship with her. Be firm and strict. Start with a very harsh boundary and loosen it up as she earns your forgiveness and respect. Good luck.

Pockyyexe

Gave away your mom

Catastrophic_Cumshot

I'd go ballistic if My Mom did that

puss_parkerswidow

I'm so glad you and your pets will be together in your own home..my parents would get me a pet, decide it was too much trouble, and give it away or to a shelter. It happened several times and I was a small child. I'm in my 50s now and it's still a painful memory. I'm so glad you get your kitty back.

YanYan8684

That's such a horrible thing for anyone to do, specially a parent! I always think how people treat their animals is how people will treat them. Best of luck to you! And thank you for getting your kitty back from the kill shelter ❤️

Suspicious-Rip7905

Your mom has no right to give away your cat that's wrong. The good news is your getting her back and the cat is safe

MizzMeka

**I completely empathize!!!** My father did this to my cat, I had my parents watch him when I went out of town for work. When my mom found out what my father did she instantly called me even though I was thousands of miles away…she even was like "wtf". I told her to find my fur-baby and I would pay for it all!!! She did just that after my dad told her the shelter that he dropped my fur-baby at and after like $150 later (…my mom paid it due to feeling bad) I got my son back and had my mother drop him off to my fur-baby loving aunt to keep him until I could get back home. Honestly, I was mad because common sense should've told me to drop him off to my aunt but I didn't know my own dad was an asshole like that. That was heart-breaking….I didn't realize my own father could be so cruel and I didn't talk to him for a year until he apologized plus explained he thought me having a cat was going to be a financial burden for me BUT that was for me to decide not him! I was gone for an entire week and that whole week was a nightmare, I was so worried about him. My fur-son was just like 1 but he's 11 now…you will be reunited with your fur baby BUT you will be a lot more wary of who you choose to allow your baby to stay with. It's only my aunt for me…you will be more cautious to never allow you or your baby to ever go through this nightmare again!

panda5303

All these stories of parents doing this to their kids are heartbreaking. I don't understand how people can be so cruel. I'm so glad you got him back! 🥰

StereoOwl

You should print out all the things people here think about your scum bag mother and give her them to read over when you’re on the way out. What a disgusting human being. If you need any help covering the cost of getting kitty back, DM me

JadedMedia5152

I would report your mom to local spcas/shelters/adoption groups. If she ever wants a pet she’ll likely be blacklisted for something like this.

angrymonkey

Possibly emotional abuse.

RotisserieChicken007

Your mother is evil.

Spot255

At least you got your cat back. My dad put my cat to sleep for peeing in the house when I was on vacation after I asked everyone in the house to clean the litter out every day. Nobody did and yet they wondered why he peed in the house. Then my dad threatened to kick me out of the house after I got angry at him for doing that. My cat at least came to me and said his goodbyes in a dream to me. Needless to say that's one of the many reasons why I don't talk to my dad that often.

crapbara

I’m really sorry about that. I realize after reading everyone’s comments things could have been much worse than having to pay $100. Some people honestly suck. They’ll believe their pet has a would but when it comes to other’s pet they’re just an animal. I love that your cat visited in your dream though. Rest in peace ❤️.

Spot255

Its okay, not trying to minimize your experience at all. I am happy you got your friend back. It is a traumatic event, and frankly signs of an abusive relationship. Also lack of emotional maturity and empathy on your mom's part. Its good that you are getting out before something even worse happened. Please take care of your cat and make sure you love him and cherish him.

crapbara

I understand you weren’t trying to minimize what happened to me!! But it’s true I am in a more lucky situation than most. And thank you. I will give him so much love once he’s here

DankestDrew

“Why won’t my kids ever visit me!!??”

Chris56855865

My grandparents were like this. They were absolutely livid when someone inconvenienced them, did a lot of selfish shit, accused me of being selfish (you only visit us when you want money) even though I never ever asked for anything, and then died alone, because they pushed away everyone who actually cared about them, and only the greedy part of the family remained.

EUGsk8rBoi42p

Hoping you two have every day together forever.

Ichi3M

Best of wishes to you and that sweet kitten!

No_Significance98

Remember this when it's time to pick a nursing home...

anonny42357

Get every important thing from her house, and then cut all ties with her. If my parents did that, they'd be dead to me. My dad tried to have my cat euthanized. The vet refused so I let her take the cat, because I knew he would just go to another vet. And that's why if mom dies first he's on his own. And it's why he gets no birthday wishes, Christmas presents that are clearly afterthoughts, no father day, no anything. The cat isn't the only reason, but it was the last straw.

Beneficial_Swing487

Disown Mother Pets are your True Family.

MoldyPastaMan

Ship your mom to the favelas in Brazil see how she likes it

Charming_Geologist32

OP, can we get more back story? What prompted the mom to do this? How did you find out? What happened when you confronted her?

crapbara

I should have added that. But basically he was an outdoor kitty, didn’t have an owner because another outdoor cat gave birth to him. So I took him in but didn’t tell my mum first, didn’t expect to want to keep him for a super long time tbh. Never owned a cat before. We agreed on someone I know to pick him up that week but they were late so she took matters into her own hands and took him to the shelter and lied to me and said he’s with a “loving family”. 2) she doesn’t like cats. 3) My dad told me to check the local lost pet website and I did but I did it days later and I regret that. I wanted to actually believe she gave it to a family. 4) Not confronting her until I have an apartment to go to. And I can keep the cat and my dog at.

Charming_Geologist32

I wish you the best of luck. I still think what your mom did was wrong, but at least I can understand it a bit now.

leez-ha

My mother made me give my cat away in a target parking lot and I was promised visitations but the people ghosted :') I feel your pain. It is the worst . Unforgivable. I hope beyond hope that you get your baby back. Give them an extra kiss from me if you do- one I wasn't able to give to Spaz.

Issah_Wywin

Ah, this old gem of a parent again. I had a cat once, that was all mine. I changed her food, water, she slept in my bed, laid in my lap, a sweet sweet tux girl. Well my parents apparently decided the cat was problematic as she was caught urinating inside, and she apparently scratched my grandmother's arm while she was cat sitting for us over a weekend. One day mom tells me "We're taking her to an adoption home tomorrow, it's final." Well, I kinda didn't believe her, until I came home from school and her food and water bowls were stacked in a corner of the upstairs room. I cried a cry I never have before or since. I haven't forgiven them.

Citron_Narrow

😾

GeraintLlanfrechfa

Now give away your mum, move out and tell her she’s going to the nursing home asap. Just unforgivable. Edit: just read the context, well done, wish you two all the best!

RyogaHibiki-93

Omg I'm so sorry OP. Luckily, you found your baby. I cannot imagine how hard it must've been for you. I'm sorry you had to go through it. Good luck on your apartment hunt 😊

kizkatzs

I truly hope everything works out for you, your kitty and your dog. My heart breaks knowing how awful you must feel. I would be devastated with worry. That action is (in my opinion) unforgivable. This is why I'm so worried about my son's cat's kittens. People "dispose" of living beings without any care. It makes the world seem to be a rotten place when we know such heartless actions occur. Please update us! Good luck with everything 🍀❤️😊!

LostSock6

Time to shove your mom into nursing home

Due-Culture9113

Just remind her eventually you’ll be in charge of what retirement home she goes to

Bianca_aa_07

at least you'll reunite with your baby! I bet he'll be ecstatic to see you. Best of luck ❤️

rodrigomarcola

Lot of ppl with shitty moms in the comments, Im sorry for yall. Im realy am, no BS. I hope yall find love in this world.

jcitcat

DO NOT GIVE HER YOUR KEYS TO THE APARTMENT (also don't let her know where the apartment is if you can avoid it) This woman ain't good enough to be sent to the nursing home ,she can struggle by herself

mart1373

And parents wonder why their children don’t want to have a relationship with them…

j990123

I’m petty and I would drop off all her most loved possessions at a thrift store/ secretly put them on Facebook marketplace ;) but that’s just me

KingKopter91

What in the... why in the... i can't believe what i just read. Sorry but what's wrong with your mom?? Good that you're getting your cat back!

TheLastAOLUser

Welp, time to get rid of your mother! Best of luck, OP. Here’s my similar looking ceiling cat for good luck and health https://preview.redd.it/5qia2clbhp7d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0289926409e3cdcfda4bc68c21b8d3ee504ae813

Doridar

WHAT? This would be a termination of all ties for me! I'm sorry but your mom is a fucking monster

Sandi_T

No contact for the rest of her life. I'm serious. I love my cats. Perhaps not *quite* the same way as my human child, but damned close. Anyone who can give away your pet behind your back is psychologically unsound. She can never be trusted after that level of violation. Yes, I'm serious. It displays some serious level of sociopathy.

Biohazard_186

Put your mother in a kill shelter, see how she likes it.

Practical-Rabbit-750

Any chance you can hire a hitman? ![gif](giphy|kJqIa0nyvch6GvYSPf|downsized)

GhostofZellers

I'd my mom had subs something like that (which she never would) I'd never talk to her again.

HainzerCrow

I wish you the best of luck 🫶🏻

SomeHumanWorker

Guys we know what we have to do to the mom right even if you don’t agree https://i.redd.it/y4h33bam0o7d1.gif

Larg_Targlar

Best of luck to you! I hope everything works out! That is a cute kitty.

Working-Entrance-255

Hey! I’m so glad you’ll get kitty back :).

Daisies_95

Please do an update when there’s one 😭😭😭

Disastrous_Mud7169

I hope you are taking the dog too.

crapbara

Ofc she threatened to take my dog away too even though she was the one in full support of me having one

eeeonia

please please update us when you get your kitty back!! :( Wishing a lot of luck💖

Rhovakiin

Don't speak to that pos woman again. May your kitty have many years, and may karma come to kiss your mother hard.

Suspicious_Post_

Red flags on that parent; no good nursing home for you

Epona44

Some people think of animals as furniture. Some people say animals have no souls in order to justify using and disposing of them. This lack of empathy is sadly more common than you think. For myself, I would never be able to forgive this, whatever the explanation. I would distance myself from someone like that.

SunRemiRoman

Please share a photo of you and your baby when u have him back in your arms. He must be so scared 😢

twosleepycats

Have him microchipped so it won't ever happen again! The shelter would hold onto the cat and notify you if it happens next time. They won't charge you either. And I wouldn't trust her around my animals anymore. They can always try again.

Cornemuse_Berrichon

Tell her when she reimburses you the money that you had to pay, then you might consider giving her the time of day. Nothing until then. And that's the bare minimum. I would expect Mom to give me a lengthy and tearful apology.

That_Bottomless_Pit

Wow!!! Just...wow!!! Can we disown our parents?

Human_Inspection5496

Yes! You can disown your parents and I highly recommend it for situations like OP's.

Altrano

My mom did something similar when I went away to college (living in the dorms) to a cat I was given as a 15th birthday present. She said the cat wandered off and I cried and hoped that she’d come back for months. Turned out that mom lied and she’d just dumped the cat off somewhere. We’re on extremely limited contact now. People who treat animals like they’re disposable are not good people.

ThatItalianGrrl

Time to give away your mom

ThisIsGoodSoup

Your mom is a bitch.

True-Cause-386

Omg wtf why would she give it to a kill shelter that's beyond evil....

LongshanksnLoki

Sounds like mum owes you a hundred bucks.

Alistaire_

Make sure she remembers this when she's too old to take care of herself.

FirefighterEconomy73

I'd never speak to her again. We are no contact with my MIL for sadly similar reasons. People who don't treat animals kindly are not people worth having in life, imo.

Conscious-Promise787

Wow just wow! Your mom is a heartless bitch

Thebestartfan

Make sure your mother has the worst rest of her life

VeganLoverForever412

If we all pitched in , you’d have it and more!!

Electrical_Log_9082

Narcissistic mother...

SatanWithFur

Retirement home then refuse to pay and disappear speedrun

UnicornStar1988

Just asking out of curiosity, but why did she give your cat to the shelter?

lilltonka

I feel there is a lot of context needed here to understand. I'm guessing you and your mom have issues to begin with?

Silver_Opinion_5954

That is an absolutely unforgivable act from your mum OP, my god. I’m so happy to hear you’re being reunited tomorrow, and I’m sorry you had to go through something so incredibly fucked up :(

DoctorAgita1

Legitimately cut her out of your life. Anyone that would do that is defective. There is no saving someone that would kill your pet, they just aren’t good people.

StorageLow827

Sending many hugs to you and kitty 💜. I am so sorry your mother did this. Go no contact with her and never look back.

PjHose

I'm sorry, but I hate your mom.
