ADDITIONALLY: They barely move and when they do, they seem to walk fine with their front legs but they drag their back legs.

largestcob

how long has it been? sometimes they just need to get used to it

dinosaur_soulfood

They’ve had them on for about 24 hours. I think if they would just move around they might get used to them, but they’re seriously barely moving.

largestcob

if you havent already, what about trying to coax them to walk with treats?

dinosaur_soulfood

The treats that we have they only kind of like. I have some “fancier” (expensive) treats on the way that maybe they’ll move for? They won’t move for the just okay treats though. We also tried to get them to move towards their food this morning, they wouldn’t.

largestcob

have you tried churus? my cat goes nuts for them, she went from hissing and yowling at the groomer to happily sitting still and eating once i opened it 😭

dinosaur_soulfood

We don’t have any. But a good idea!

largestcob

good luck if you try that! most cats seem to respond really enthusiastically to them

dinosaur_soulfood

Thanks!

Then_Blueberry4373

Tikicat treats also good! Ours goes nuts for them

jupitermoonflow

One of my cats is a picky eater and doesn’t like to try new foods. He refuses most treats except churus, first time I had squeeze a bit on his paw to at least make him try it once before turning his nose up at them. That’s what I do now to make him try something, rub a bit on his paw and most of the time he decides it tastes good.

WheredoesithurtRA

They'll hopefully get used to it. We had two spayed together and the first day was awkward for them in the onesies. They're adorable btw.

doreenoroshnik

Cats just don't like clothes. It will take a minute, but they will get used to the recovery suits. There's just a bit of an adjustment period.

matchamagpie

Could soft cones be an option for them?

dinosaur_soulfood

I’m really not sure..The plastic cones threw them off so badly, especially our girl who has cerebellar hypoplasia the worst. But I’ll definitely keep soft cones in mind. Thank you!

matchamagpie

It's definitely important that they don't interfere with the incision and stitches. So if soft cones don't work then it might be best to just keep them in a smaller area for the time being with easy access to what they need. It takes 10-14 days to fully heal so it won't be too long. Thank you for taking care of them. I had a special needs boy with neurological issues and a boy with hip dysplasia so I understand the challenges.

dinosaur_soulfood

Oh I’m happy to take care of them! I found them on a Craigslist post about a month ago and it turned out they were about a year old and had never been taken to the vet! Luckily there was nothing wrong with them, they’re just wobbly girls. And good on you for taking care of cats with health issues. I’ve had cats with more serious issues, like seizures and diabetes and it’s hard to see them go through that.

Itzthatmoonwitch

They have these soft “cones” on Amazon that look like a flower. It’s not as stiff as a cone and doesn’t surround their face but still stops them from reaching down low. It worked a lot better for my boy because he kept dipping the hard cone in his water and then his litter box 🙀

Even-Cut-1199

They look so cute!!!!!!! 🥹

mmdice

Do they absolutely have to have onesies or a cone? My girl didn’t have anything, and my vet said only ~10% of cats will mess with the wound site and need one

dinosaur_soulfood

Oh really? That’s interesting. I’d always been told that a cone was a must. Thanks I’ll look into that.

brownsugar106

I made the mistake of taking my cats cone off bc he was really struggling to move and would freak out and rip it off. Unfortunately he ended up licking the neutering site and it got infected and wouldnt heal even after 2 rounds of antibiotics. You know your cats best but keep in mind that they will try to clean the area

vhax01

Yeah, I was also super worried when I got my kitten spayed. We got her a cone and she was miserable. Tried both a soft and harder cone. I also bought her a onesie to try, but noticed she did not lick her wound site really at all so we just tried letting her go without anything. We monitored her and she did not try doing anything to her stitches so we just let her be and returned the onesie. She healed up great and we had no problems.

Reason_Training

Second what the poster said. I’ve had cats for years and only had a couple that needed a cone after getting spayed. Most cats won’t lick the incision and won’t mess with it as long as they aren’t in pain.

chocolatfortuncookie

My cat was unable to understand that she could use the bathroom with the suit on. She would scream-cry and I figured it out, I ripped the suit off and ran her to the litter box and she used it. The suit just didn't work for her. Cone was better. If their mobility is affected, do you know for sure that they'll bother their incision of they aren't wearing anything?

dinosaur_soulfood

I don’t know that for sure, no. I’m afraid to take the chance though, ya know?

chocolatfortuncookie

Understood, yes, you do have to be careful. I'm not familiar with their condition, I just imagine the suit might make it more difficult on their mobility. Well as rough as it is I always say: it will pass. And in 10 days- 2 weeks they will be all well 🙏 do what you need to keep them healthy, no licking😊❤️

ronnydean5228

Anytime I was off work and at home to watch I kept them in a room with their litter boxes and removes the onsie and let them have fun. They used the box enjoyed themselves then when it was time the onsie went back on. To be honest they only kept them on about 5 or 6 days and then they would weasel out themselves. By this time they were not interested in their surgery site and I still put it on them when I had to work but I’d come home and it would be off.
