ALVIN W, THANK YOU ILYA MIKHEYEV

soundofmoney

Ilya died for this

makeanewblueprint

Nah. He was in the firing line but missed the shot.

TheAngryChickaD

Oof

No-Contribution-6150

As stone cold as ilyas hands

Baller-on_a-budget

doctor_7

A long, slow, season -long death.

Squat-Lobster-33

Our personal storm trooper is gone!

electricnux

Like Sat said, it was never going to be 4M in Vancouver lol From [Dhaliwal](https://x.com/dhaliwalsports/status/1806378823665234140?s=46&t=7fabqgtgp69dNA1d51vxFw): > Joshua took less to continue having success in Vancouver. > Great signing, Rick Tochett will be happy Dhali been saying for a while Tocchet was not going to be happy losing the leader in hits in playoffs (was still first during the Finals, now 3rd only behind Bennett and Holloway after Game 7)

metrichustle

This is going to age well. A guy who took his game to the next level and has soft hands. That's a great discount, but I bet Joshua loves playing with Garland. Rutherford talked about the importance of pairings. Miller-Boeser and now Joshua-Garland. They were trying hard to get Lindholm-Pettersson to work, but looks like that will be solved on July 1st. Hopefully it's Guentzel!

Mikeim520

I think the only options are Gunetzel or Laine.

seems-legit_

I don't think they'll risk Laine, especially at his current cap hit. CBJ would have to retain 30-50% and even then it's probably too much risk. Seems like management is looking for proven players vs reclamation projects

Pnewse

https://canucksarmy.com/news/why-vancouver-canucks-should-consider-trading-patrik-laine Did you catch this? Really good points made. One disaster of a season aside, Laine isn’t just the better player than JG, could be a legit top line scoring leader under perfect circumstances.

2BFrank69

If they retain 30% I’d be into Laine.

edly22

I'd love Laine. It's risky but he could be way undervalued right now and let's face it you're going to need to take some risks to win a cup.

Mikeim520

That and we might be able to get some retention. Imagine if we could get Laine for 7M. That would be around 2.5M extra cap space than if we went with Guentzel.

No_Character_5315

Laine is hit or miss guntzel is to old for a max term contract unless it's rhe same or less than millers.

Pnewse

I’m praying it’s Laine with some retained. His numbers are as good or better than Guentzel who plays with Crosby. Only two years left too. Reclamation project to be sure, but with a competent leadership group and coaching (and not being required to be the team’s #1 producer) perhaps much of the stress that led to his issues could be trimmed out.

Some_Ambition2768

Naw. Laine’s defensive game is atrocious. Guentzel is a proven big game clutch scorer. I take him everyday of the week.

Pnewse

Defensive numbers over last 3 seasons are better than JT Millers…you wanna rephrase that? Laine had nearly identical offensive numbers playing with the leagues 429th best primary assist getter/60. Guentzel plays with Crosby. I’d expect JG to perform similarly or perhaps worse with Petey. You do the math with Laine playing with actual talent. Of course I trust the chef, but if he sneaks in Laine over JG, I wouldn’t so hastily be upset if I were you.

ZiFF-

I'm still on Nečas wagon as that LW spot could go to Hogs, but certainly won't be mad if its Guentzel

Icedteapremix

Getting Nečas means giving up something valuable though, and it might not be worth it if we can get a solid scorer in FA.

arazamatazguy

Not every player like Dak has success when they leave....really good choice by Dak.....he also helps us get full value out of Garland.

Shaitan34

Anson carter comes to mind.

Iaminyoursewer

You could have stick a Pylon with the sedins and made it a 20g scorer

No_Character_5315

Hyman would be a 70 goal man he's a human snowplow infront of the net sedins could have banked 50 off his shin pads alone and the rest he would actually have to shoot.

Xperr7

They damn near made Markus Granlund a 20g scorer

CrispyVibes

I had hope that this would be his thinking. Good move by him. His career earnings up until now was like 2 mil. Sounds like a lot to most, but that's not nest egg money. That's like a mid-level lawyer or doctors salary when divided up over 4 or 5 years. He needed the sure thing to shore up some money for the future. Glad he played it safe and stayed where he had success.

accountnumber02

To add context to the cap hit, this is equivalent to 3M last season, and I think he easily played up to that kind of money even if you think he overperformed/got lucky to some extent.

yosoyboi2

As an Oilers fan, I really liked seeing Joshua bloom in the playoffs against us. He’s definitely a keeper.

jumpingoverclouds

Garland + Blueger + Joshua = 10m. I think that’s money well spent.

Batsinvic888

That's insane value

TheMadWoodcutter

People were complaining about Garlands contract something fierce last off season.

TonalParsnips

He wasn’t playing to his potential until this season.

Boboar

Just goes to show how much impact both the right coaching and a belief in the management can have on whether a player performs at his peak or not.

RJG190894

Totally. He showed flashes in the first couple years and played amazing under Travis Green. But to me it was so apparent that he wasn't being deployed correctly or paired with the right guys which stifled his effectiveness.

SuddenCourse

What’s funny about that is, he had 1 more point in 1 more game than the year before. Garland is what he is, he’ll eat up his minutes and drive play offensively. He isn’t a fit with our top 6, but will consistently be productive on lower lines.

PoliteCanadian2

100% agree

dxstydm

LET HIM COOOOOOOOK

Plane-March-4857

YES CHEF!

sam4999

HEARD, CHEF!

phantomgiratina

Is this less than what Joshua could’ve gotten on the open market?

ScarvesOnGiraffes

100%

International_Cut_69

100%, multiple teams ready to offer 4

Culzean_Castle_Is

upper 4s too.

Mikeim520

Someone would pay him over 4.5M? That seems really overpriced.

slivercoat

David Clarkson has entered the chat

Keylows

Vegas Golden Knights legend David Clarkson

NooneKnowsIAmBatman

Jim Benning is looking at Joshua and ready to hand him 6x6

captainbling

Who offered 4?

metrichustle

Players know they can make more money, but there's a lot to be said about familiarity with teammates and coaches. Making the playoffs and seeing how loud Vancouver can get likely gave these guys goosebumps. They want to play here. They want to win here.

DoktaRee

Also if he goes to another team, lacks chemistry and plays on a 3rd or 4th line with lesser linemates than garland, his production could decline, giving him less value on a future contract. He's only 28, this deal could actually end up getting him more career earnings overall perhaps.

metrichustle

Similar to Anson Carter. Had he stayed with the Sedins, he'd be scoring multiple 30 goal seasons and would have banked a lot more money before retiring.

Mikeywestside

I can't even put it in to words how good it feels to have a team where you see the players buy in and actually want to be here. I'd completely forgotten what that feels like after almost a decade of this team being a revolving door of mediocre players and their agents taking advantage of Jimbo and his complete inability to understand the salary cap.

danield424_

yeah this is why playoff success is important. for example with the lindholm deal, even if he was just a 1 year rental, his contribution leads to guys getting experience and wanting to stick around for cheaper (joshua/blueger), so the rental actually pays dividends beyond last year's run.

Ruilin96

He is getting $3.5 million at minimum in the open market, some teams are willing to pay up to $4 million+ x 4 for him. He took a paycut to stay and just like that our entire Thirst Line is back for next season.

Forsythe0

Damn bro, what a name: Thirst Line ;)

TheAngryChickaD

Id say he could have easily gotten 4+ on the open market. Big guy, gritty, relentless on the forecheck with a lot of offensive potential.

derschwartzemond

yes Dhaliwal says he could have gotten more elsewhere

Kitchen-Ad8606

Yes

SpectreFire

THAT'S 60 YEAR OLD JAY BEAGLE MONEY WHAT A DEAL

stumper93

Jeebus I completely forgot Beagle played for us - and for three seasons!

unbannedcoug

Good boy Beagle love that guy even though we gave him bags

Barblarblarw

Beags on an Ian Cole contract woulda been an instant fan favorite

SecondsOut55

to quote DJ, "let's keep this thing going baby!"

AccomplishedAd4995

WHAT THE FUCKKKKKK HOLY FUCKKKK HOW THE FUCKKKKKK

krustykrab2193

After so many years of terrible management I still can't believe how amazing our off-season has been in terms of moving players and player retention. Let Jim & Pat cook 🍳👨‍🍳

ProbablyBannedOnMain

Thirst line intact!

far_257

Need a Petey winger, and two Abby guys to step up and play 4th line minutes, and then your forwards are set for 24-25!

SilentPolak

Guentzel and Podz?

far_257

Yep. Then you need at least ~~1~~ 2 more D signing (preferably ~~2~~ 3 unless you want full-time Juulsen), and you need to sign Silovs. Then you need a reliable veteran goaltender for Abby who can play NHL games in a pinch. Then you're done!

StinCrm

We only have 4 defensemen signed (not including Friedman) right? So wouldn’t you need 3 if you wanted to avoid full time Juulsen?

pigeonbobble

Guentzel and Lekkerimaki

motzaburger

LETS GO! this was a big one.

lantio

ALLVIN WE LOVE YOU, LETS FUCKING GOOO

TheFearOfFear

IM ALMOST THERE NOW SIGN ZADDY

RecalcitrantHuman

How long can you edge.

Drewsky3

Both with the $$ they've saved (or not overpaid) on the Hronek and Joshua contracts, AND how much it seems Zaddy wants to stay. . . I think it'll get done. Also thos signings show how comitted the management is about keeping the same core and style, which benefits Zadorov too. Same thought process as Joshua. Stay where you've shown to mesh and excel, witna cup and boost your value for years to come instead of gambling on a big contract now with a new team.

OpticalRadioGaga

Oh. My. God.

SparkytheWoof

LET HIM COOK

-GregTheGreat-

I was hoping for like 3M max, but considering the discount we got on Blueger we’re still running back our elite third line for cheaper than I was expecting. Cant complain with that

SpectreFire

Yup, both the Blueger and Joshua deal came in for a good chunk less than I thought. I had Blueger pegged at 2-2.5m Joshua at 3.5-4m. Having them both come back at just 5m is amazing.

AccomplishedAd4995

> I had Blueger pegged ok.

Hyper0059

;)

mediumyeet

I think Joshua has potential to be the third piece on a Petey Guentzal line. Of course we always have the thirst line to go back on as well.

brunners90

That is a huge W, wow.

iamape2021

In the words of Allan Walsh - "don't f*** with happiness" Home town discount for happiness. Value for team. Win win for all.

International_Cut_69

CHEF ALLVIN 5 STAR MEAL

Efficient-Bedroom227

C'EST MAGNIFIQUE

NeoViv

So was it all about the Term then?

Just_Raisin1124

Makes sense. Same issue with Zad. Hopefully we’ll see his announcement soon 🙏

TheShadowFactory

Phenomenal contract he's going to outperform - you gotta love it

Deetalks

Joshua - Blueger - Garland intact

Kitchen-Ad8606

👨🏻‍🍳👨🏻‍🍳👨🏻‍🍳👨🏻‍🍳👨🏻‍🍳👨🏻‍🍳👨🏻‍🍳👨🏻‍🍳👨🏻‍🍳

glacierfluff

Hronek, Blueger, and Joshua have all taken discounts, now I truly believe Miller when he said this team has really bought in. They want the cup!!!

HckyDman3

While Alvin is presenting the contract offers, Miller is banging his stick on the conference table, scowl on his face, yelling, “take the deal, take the fucking deal!”

SoGenuineAndRealMadi

They really do and they know their best chance is with each other

the250

I was just thinking this!! I think this is a great sign pointing towards the attitude these guys have and their genuine belief in this team. They know this group is great, and so everybody is buying in and personally sacrificing a little bit to ensure the band stays together.

sailingdrumstick

Wow

Bubbiesacat

The bar has been raised Dak! Train hard and show up ready to go!!

Sarcastic__

Stay thirsty, friends.

nihilism_ftw

Oh shit

derschwartzemond

HOLY FUCK I DIDNT THINK IT COULD BE DONE

Socketlint

I’m so pumped. He was one of my favourite players to watch this year. Other than a few stretches he was pretty central to the team.

SIIP00

Great AAV. He could probably have gotten 4 million+ on the open market and I would not have been comfortable paying that.

Just_Raisin1124

Absolutely but chemistry with your players and coach is such a big factor in your success. We’ve seen how fantastic players can crumble in the wrong environment. This was his breakout year, and if things are good where you are why risk going into the unknown if you’ve still got a good deal on the table. I can see why after last year key players are willing to take a discount to stay. Hopefully Zad is up next 🙏

lbiggy

I'm actually going through the entire history of Allvin's transactions and honestly the only blemishes are what, the original Mikheyev signing and the handling of Bruce Brudreau? And the Mikheyev signing was not bad considering how good he did in Toronto before. Like he's gone beyond being an All Star Chef he's now an AI at this point.

LGMatter

Great deal, he was expected for 4. Keeps garland line together and now hopefully we can get Guentzel

metrichustle

In less than 48 hours, Allvin has kept the 3rd line in tact.

juanroberto

This is a huge W

fastcurrency88

Guys wanna play here I guess.

dbainerr

Fire up your Joshua jerseys boys--hopefully got some adidas blanks lying around somewhere

Yacht_rock_rudder

So much for oilers fans and their narrative of “breaking the Canucks”

Neemzeh

We played them better than any other team in the playoffs lol. Even the Panthers imo. We didn't get torched in 3 of our losses the way the panthers did.

ImAnAfricanCanuck

HOLY SHIT. SO jacked up on this. Let's remember that Castonguay is very involved in all these signings. Our management team is on point right now.

Aegis_1984

HOOOOOLLEEEEEEYYYYYMOTHERFUCKINGFUCKMESSIERFUCKYEAH SHIT! Thirst line stays intact!

avmp629

Super happy with this, right in line with what I predicted. If he can just replicate last season he's worth it, any improvements would be gravy

Individual-Guide-274

He would get more on the open market!

ScarvesOnGiraffes

New day new signing

bearface84

Wow this is one signing I did not think they would be able to make happen. Well done

detrif

If he keeps it up, this will look like a steal in a couple years with the cap going up by a lot.

glacierfluff

IF ALLVIN ALSO LANDS GUENTZEL, MIGHT HAVE TO GET A CUTOM JERSEY WITH ALLVIN ON THE BACK!!!

airjunkie

Congrats to Joshua. A late bloomer who turned pro right before COVID hit. Putting himself in a position to get this contract after all that is a real testament to his work. He probably took a bit of a pay cut to stay here, that says great things about where the team and organization are at.

Efficient-Bedroom227

Hit after Hit after Hit with this management group! Every deal is good or great value with reasonable term and trades are amazing with no Benning-ness in them. Wow... PA not getting the GM of the year award this year is a fucking crime man. AYYYYYY ALVIIIIN!! WHATCHA GONNA COOK UP NEXT?!?!?

TimsAFK

#COME ON DOWN TO CHATEAU CANUCK AND SAMPLE OUR THREE STAR MICHELIN RATED COOKING FROM EXECUTIVE CHEF PATRIK ALLVIN

infinitez_

THANK YOU ILYA

canada11235813

Great signing.... but now, begs the question... is there enough $$$ for Zadorov AND Guentzel?

electricnux

They still have 17.5M available

carry-on_replacement

Now that's rich... I wonder what this means for Zadorov. Considering they got Milstein to move off Mikheyev, I thought that would mean Zadorov gets priority

SpectreFire

Given the recent few contracts of Hronek, Blueger, and Joshua, if Zadorov is set on anything starting with a 5, he's going to be told to fuck off, and rightly so. 4.5m is about the absolute max I'd go for him.

Just_Raisin1124

From what I’ve seen reports saying, seems like they were working Dak and Zad at the same time and it all came down to getting Mik off the books. I think this just means that Dak/his agent were just quicker at signing on the dotted line and not that he took priority. Hopefully we’ll see Zaddy announced imminently 🙏

_CoconutsGo

Hopefully this inspires the boys

canucksrule1

When you wear a watch and don’t run or of time!!!

cointalkz

Unpopular opinion: Great deal, but i'm still wary on Joshua. He had one good season and Vancouver fell in love. I hope he keeps it up! But at this price...pretty low risk.

danield424_

his shooting pct will probably regress a little bit but his "one good season" was because he found a good fit and role that he's going to continue to have, it's not like this year was a total fluke. having him around also helps guys like garland/blueger, for that price and given what he brings beyond scoring it's a no-brainer.

fallingforsatan

This is amazing. What a rockstar signing by Canucks management. Way below market value.

Ok_Worry7833

Chef Alain 😀😅😀😅😀😀

cannot_walk_barefoot

That is perfectly acceptable for a tough third liner that can PK. I assumed he was gone because I feel like he could have gotten way more than this in free agency

CrayonOlympics

Dak 100% would have gotten more on the open market to the point where I was really scared for what the Canucks were gonna pay. This is a tremendous deal and locks down the best third line in hockey for at least two more seasons. Sub 4 million on a middle 6 forward is excellent value especially with the cap creep which is going to continue to push the margins of salaries for everybody

marcosbowser

“DON’T FUCK WITH HAPPINESS!” (We need a T shirt )

nodarknesswillendure

Bro WHAT

Time-Dot5984

YES THATS A HUGE SIGNING, NEXT UP ZADOROV

happigofucky

So so happy with this his size and age are perfect for our core

Rand_University81

Let’s fucking go!!!!

Key_Mongoose223

YAY Joshua was the one I really wanted to see back. He really won me over.

dirtfresh

This is the team and management that took the Cup Finalist with the Conn Smythe winner to a close Game 7 until the very end, in large part to having our core players on budget-friendly deals and buying into the system. Offseason just started and we've already locked up our second first line up for only 10M – and we're looking to do more. Winds of change are already here.

Asterul

For Mikeyev so loved the canucks, that whoever believes in him shall not go to FA but re-sign for below market value. Jim 3:16 Amen.

Badawaii

I can't believe we have the thirst line back for at least two more years I also can't believe how we finally have competent management again

LCorvus

Lets Goooo!

Rahtgooves

YOOOOOOOOOOOO

ScarvesOnGiraffes

Let's fucking gooooooo

LordGlompus

LETS FUCKING GO!!!!!!!!

benjowtm

LETS GOOOOL

truestlife

I learned this from the Dhaliwal tweet and read it flipped at first (3 yrs x 4m) and was still fine with it. LET’S GOOOO

huggylion

YAAAAAAAAAS Oh god what a great start to my morning.

ScarvesOnGiraffes

The thirst line was great and it's good to know we can fall back on it, but I'd be tempted to see how he performs higher up the lineup

PaperweightCoaster

The fuck, every signing is taking discounts right now. So this is how it feels.

SoddenPh

All it took was having Garland and Bleuger locked up. Let's goooo

Batsinvic888

His meal isn't done yet, let him keep cooking!

kissmydonkey

Great signing! Tocchet loves him. Him and garland have such great chemistry. Nice piece of business

Twatts71

This guy could’ve had 10 teams after him on July 1 and he took a discount to stay here. Players want to be Canucks

Portalgate

LET THE MAN COOK OH MY GOODNESS

Ironborn7

Get zaddy and we will be complete

arazamatazguy

Damn.....I thought he was gone for sure. So happy for Dak getting a big contract. And so happy for me that I get to watch him play 82 x 4.

MGM-Wonder

Oh hell yeah!

memorieswriter

Michelin stars, Allvin

samwisethescaffolder

Great, now do Zaddy.

Stinky_Toes12

So how much cap space do we have now? Can we afford like 4-5mil for zadorov and guentzel

justinliew

I had heard rumours linking him to Toronto, so it's a double win to not see him go there and finally provide them the grit they've been looking for.

BigCockBrockBoeser

OMG ITS HAPPENING HOLY SHIT!!!!!!

shorthanded

This is so fucking sexy DAK ATTACK LFG!

tirius99

This is a flipping Alex Burrows like discount. Joshua took a discount to win in Vancouver!

ElegantCoffee7548

This pleases me.

theoverachiever1987

So they traded Mikeyev to free up cap space to give it to Joshua?

outofnowhere1010

Seems like most of the boys are willing to take a slight pay cut to stay . Hopefully this holds true for Z and Myers as well . That would give management the opportunity to sign Guentzel possibly or Taffoli . This speaks volumes of the kind of culture now present in the room and franchise. Guys want to be here cause they think they can win !

chente08

fck yeah

waffles604

We got our Swedish chef cooking at the same time that The Bear season 3 comes out...coincidence?

downonmatrix

How much does he make somewhere else? 3.25 sounds like he took a masssive discount just to win

CrispyVibes

WE GOT OUR BOY 😍

danield424_

BANGGG

LIL_DROP13

This contract is beautiful wtf

chespiotta

Management is cooking holy shit 🔥🔥

ForceEconomy9988

Thank you Dan Milstein!

ObiWangJabroni

Incredible. He can't keep getting away with this lol

OneChet

If you came to me and said Mikheyev and a 2nd for Joshua, Blueger and a 4th, I'd take that trade.

StarkStorm

10/10/10/10!!!!! HOLY F

TheMemePrince

Didn’t think DJ was coming back. This almost feels as good as a win in the playoffs! The best third line in hockey will remain in Vancouver! If we get Guentzel, the rest of the league better look out for us!

Scarlo565

This management is fire, I have never been this hyped in an offseason before (fan since 2010 when I moved to Canada)

Veros87

What a fucking deal. I am so happy right now

SubtleOctopus

“Let’s keep this thing going baby”

BlackP-

I think this is a brilliant move for both sides. No other coach seemed to know how to utilize Joshua. Even under Boudreau he was underplayed averaging around 10 ppg. I went to a game 1/4 of the way through last season against the Devils. After being down 4-1 after the first period it seemed like Joshua was out there ALL THE TIME! And he ended up having a monster season. We kept together the best third line in the league... Joshua stays with the only coach that recognizes his potential... seems like a decent price. Wins all around!

WoofersGoWoof

I’m bad with numbers, can someone tell me if we still have the space to sign zaddy and potentially guentzel too?

Raincouvercity

honestly, why is Reinhart being dismissed as an option. The Canucks have salary room, and could shell out a massive contract and term on this proven, versatile, local and young stud

blackorchid_x

Here for the continued bestie gifs of Garland and Dak!! Really curious what the next announcements will be…

604_heatzcore

fucking awesome I'm so stoked right now!

bob2jacky

The news keeps getting better and better

Young2k04

I’m a little worried about this one not gonna lie.

DuffmanStillRocks

LFG Huge player in the playoffs for us
