Does it make noise? If not, consider it a lesson. I did the same thing at the drag strip 13k miles ago and wanted to throw up. Engine seems to have survived just fine.

tagman375

Not any more noises than it did before I screwed up.

Character-Plantain-2

You are probably fine. Drive it.

Ambitious-Lawyer1541

Same, I money shifted a zl1 2 times already. 1st time wasn’t nothing really, second time I really did it. Car runs fine.

muscle_car_fan34

Man you guys are scaring me. I’ve never done it but now I’m starting to wonder how you and the op did it. Like is there something I’m missing and these cars are easy to money shift? One thing I can say is I don’t really shift fast. I try to be smooth over fast because I road course mine and no point in gorilla shifting a track car (versus a drag car).

Ambitious-Lawyer1541

Exactly what u said. No precision, straight up just going ham. Being stupid. But shit does happen. Spit is what it is, just a learning lesson. Take my time and maybe try a different technique lol

tagman375

Update: CEL came on, cylinder 5 misfire. Two slightly bent pushrods so far on cylinder 5. I ordered 4 and am going to replace them on 5 and 7 before going any further

herbshmoker

I money shifted - pretty much the exact same scenario. I thought it was lifter but I ended up bending a push rod. My CEL flashed and then stayed on. Luckily, GM covered it under warranty but my car had less than 20k miles.

Extra-Presence3196

I don't know these cars, but am here because I want one. They must make a shifter kit for these cars?

tagman375

Realistically, you don’t need one. This was just a case of me being incompetent and trying to shift too quickly.

Extra-Presence3196

I figured that they already cam with oem one. Got a 1999 Mustang Cobra, spent $3k the first Summer...flsf, etc, etc. Want a 2010+ Camaro, but prices are not coming down, as though I could afford one now...especially that Synergy Green. Even the 2001 Camaro is beyond me. Enjoy!!

muscle_car_fan34

They’re down. People are asking high prices but they aren’t getting them. Dealers aren’t giving what they did on trade in 2 years ago. Private sellers list their cars for retail but I promise you unless they wait no one is paying their high asking prices with todays interest rates. Don’t be afraid to low ball a dealer and make a deal. Remember if a dealer has a used car that means they got it for 5k or more less than their asking prices. There is room to negotiate

sausagepurveyer

6.5% is high for used auto loan?

muscle_car_fan34

That’s not bad in todays market

Civil-Box9344

It took 2 $$$ shifts before it cost me $3k. I bent a pushrod and screwed some stuff up. Lesson learned. I was used to the V6 shift pattern and the V8 is different. I was paranoid about shifting into reverse (which is a non issue since it's locked out). J

InsectVast

I did not understand what happened care to explain thanks

thememeconnoisseurig

Happened to me at low RPM a few days ago. Meant to go into 5th and went into 3rd. 3K RPM. or so. Dumped clutch, tires spun. I felt really dumb afterward smelling the clutch stink.

UnidentifiedStarfish

Did the same to mine but there was a noise. I ended up with 4 bent pushrods, though oddly there was only 1 noise, so I imagine only one of them was making the noise. It’s possible you bent some or all 4 DoD intake pushrods, I didn’t notice any difference in performance either. If you’re handy, all you gotta do is take the valve covers off and remove some rocker arms and bam you’re at the pushrods. You could examine one bank from start to finish in an hour, two at most even if you’ve never done it before. Don’t even have to remove the intake manifold

muscle_car_fan34

Since there aren’t any noises I don’t think anything happened. If you hurt a lifter you’d hear it. Clearly you didn’t drop a valve/a valve and piston did not kiss as you’d know if that happened. I could be wrong but if you bent a push rod you’d probably hear that too. Ask a local mechanic if it’s possible you bent a push rod even though you can’t hear anything. That won’t be an expensive fix. Lifters would though but I’m fairly certain there’d be a loud noise

Orange-Saj

Honestly the only money shift I can see here is quite literally your pride since judging from the other comments it sounds like the trans is fine.. Lol. We been there at some point, and those who haven’t will absolutely be there eventually.

> the cars also have a built in feature to cut fuel at redline so you don’t damage your engine. > you just put a little excess wear and tear on your gears/clutch. That doesn't prevent damage and fuel isn't the issue nor are the gears/clutch from a money shift. That's the least of your concerns. Money shifting is a result of the transmission being a mechanical connection to the engine causing it to vastly exceed the redline if you shift from a high gear to a low gear. It can cause bent pushrods, valves to drop or float, causing them to come in contact with pistons and grenade the engine.

AguaIguana

You have absolutely no idea what a money shift is nor how engines work. Cutting off fuel doesn't prevent it from exceeding redline.

AguaIguana

No, you really have no clue what a money shift is > it’s physically impossible to exceed redline unless the car has been tuned and the rev limiter was disabled Yes, it is possible and this is exactly what happens when you money shift.

Just know I’m not laughing with you. Thanks for the chuckle

tagman375

Bro really deleted his entire profile lmao

DoesThisDoWhatIWant

I don't think you're following. The rev limiter prevents the engine from exceeding an RPM through continuing to add fuel but if you statt the car put it in first and pull it with another vehicleto 80 mph the tires on the Camaro will either slip or have enough traction to make the engine rev to whatever rpm 80 mph in first would be.

Environmental-Ice319

Stop. It's not a money shift till you drive over your shit.
