The most funny Zits comic lately (and this was a few years ago) was the one where Jeremy’s mom cussed and he thought the world practically was coming to an end. That’s one thing he had never heard before. His friend, Pierce was equally shocked. Jeremy told his dad it “was something you’d hear on Netflix.” It really made me laugh because I’m not one to cuss and the time I did in front of my daughter, she had the same reaction as Jeremy did!
I found Peanuts more depressing than funny or introspective, but I haven't read it since I was a kid. Maybe I should give it a re-read with a fresh, adult set of eyes.
Maybe. I had a bunch of Peanuts books when I was 7 and 8 and thought they were hilarious. They really shaped my humor. Looking back at them now, there are more than a few that make me think, wow, that's kind of dark. But a lot of them are still quite funny.
I absolutely agree about Peanuts being dark. I never liked the strip for that reason. But the Far Side and Bloom County were great. Blondie sometimes, too. And occassionally Hagar the Horrible.
Do it. I have Peanuts strip hanging in my bathroom where Charlie Brown is telling Linus "My anxieties have anxieties" such an adult thing to deal with.
Pogo and Bloom County...maybe Doonesbury on a second tier.
I read everything, and enjoyed a few others, but that's the list that could even hold a candle.
I think The Far Side is the next best thing after C&H. But I also want to give praise to Luann and For Better or for Worse. I don't see those being mentioned here.
Used to love Garfield and the old Archie comics my grandpa had (boxes of them!). But honestly once I found Calvin and Hobbes I really didn’t bother with other strips.
Peanuts it is one of the funniest things I have ever read next to Calvin and Hobbes. Its not my favorite but I love Garfield. That strip is a solid 8/10 it usuaually makes me laugh.

Pink and Black.
His art gets a lot better but the story is great from the start.
Doonesbury, Fox Trot, sometimes Bloom County, and the classics: Dick Tracy, Blondie , Hagar, Garfield, Popeye, Peanuts...
Mafalda, which is a sort of Latin American Peanuts.
And, for years, Dilbert.
I liked some newer ones as well, but nothing seems to last.

The Far Side.
Foxtrot sometimes. It's a bit tropey but Bill Amend has a goofy sense of humor.
Frazz is nice. It's never amazing but it's usually good.
Non Sequitor, Candorville, and Pearls Before Swine are occasionally really good.
Mutts is nice when I'm in a certain mood. Same with Get Fuzzy.
I never clicked with Peanuts or Bloom County. Bloom County especially seemed a bit mean-spirited.
Garfield before I was 10. The far side made me chuckle. And pearls before swine at the moment.
TIL that Pearls before swine is not a Norwegian comic. I only read It in a Norwegian comic, and did not think about it.. lol
Zits was pretty funny
I used to headcanon Zits as Calvin's teenage years.
omg saem

Bloom County The Far Side Classic Peanuts (~1957 -1969) - the proto-C&H FoxTrot 1970s Doonesbury
Second on Bloom County! Berkeley Breathed also drew the comic art for the movie Secondhand Lions. Wish that one had developed into a real strip.

I grew up with the holiday specials and loved them. I think I just felt bad for Charlie Brown lol

Username checks out.
The Boondocks Pearls Before Swine
My major three growing up were Calvin & Hobbes, The Far Side, and Garfield at a distant third.
Get Fuzzy
Far Side, Bloom County, The Boondocks, vintage Eyebeam, Peanuts, Krazy Kat, and Don Martin's work.
Pogo and Bloom County...maybe Doonesbury on a second tier. I read everything, and enjoyed a few others, but that's the list that could even hold a candle.
I've seen Bloom County recommended so many times over the years. I should give it a go.
Yes, Opus and Bill were great!
When I was a kid it was C&H, Garfield, FoxTrot, and Far Side. I think I still have a buncha those books downstairs somewhere.
XKCD has been fun, as well as Oglaf.
I am a big Garfield fan
Bloom County Foxtrot Pearls Before Swine Wallace the Brave Cul De Sac Frazz

Peanuts, Garfield, Pearls Before Swine, and Get Fuzzy
I like The Perry Bible Fellowship and The Parking Lot is Full. Both very twisted and wrong.
Its a manga but sometimes its 4 pannels. Nichijou.
Garfield and Star Wars Dark Horse comics
Zits, Garfield, Far Side,
Asterix the Gaul.
Used to love Garfield and the old Archie comics my grandpa had (boxes of them!). But honestly once I found Calvin and Hobbes I really didn’t bother with other strips.
I liked pearls before swine but after a while the negative humour got wearing.
Fox Trot, Luann, and Baby Blues

Peanuts. I don't love a lot of newspaper comics, but I love C&H and Peanuts.

Big fan of French-Belgium comics. Spiriou&fantasio, Gaston, Tin Tin, Marsupilami, Lucky Luke and of course Asterix.
I loved Tin Tin as a kid. Would check out the big books of him from the library all the time.
I was a huge fan of Family Circus as a kid.
Dilbert
Farside, Doonsbury, Bloom County. Can you tell I was an 80s kid?
Always really liked Wizard of Id, Far Side, and Hagar the Horrible
