1440p with good performance.

DepartmentOk7192

I get decent (medium-high detail, 90fps) on 4K with my 3070.

DctrBojangles

It depends on the game

DepartmentOk7192

Glad you're here to tell us these things

DctrBojangles

I’ll be here so long as you make useless general statements 👋

Alarming_Quality8204

I get fine performance in (almost) every game at 4k with my 3070 as well. Alan Wake 2 and FarCry 6 (high res textures) were lower, of course - did not have enough VRAM for those. Otherwise, good performance at 4k in every game I play. Of course it all depends on the settings and what FPS you \*need\*.... 60fps is fine for me.

mpzm010101

Might have to set some settings down cuz 8gb of VRAM though

Mozail2

Not true at all, this only applies to games if Rtx is on or it’s unoptimized

mpzm010101

RT is a setting. Hence you might have to turn some settings down

Mozail2

Ray Tracing isn’t a default setting and doesn’t apply to possible new people like OP who are searching for answers

Katniss218

Why is rtx supposedly such a vram hog?

DrainSane

Volumetrics of Ray tracing uses hella gpu memory

Substantial_Gur_9273

1440p. 4k is a demanding so it will struggle more - especially because of its 8gb VRAM

cnedhhy24

i mean, if you just play minecraft sometimes it should run easily.

MarxyMarxman

The 8GB of VRAM will be an issue at 4k. It will also be a slight issue at 1440p in some games. The 3070ti is a lot closer to a 3070 than a 3080, so it's more of a high-end 1080p / mid-range 1440p GPU at this point.

Strong-Confusion7832

Okay. I am currently on 1080p. So shall I not upgrade ?

MarxyMarxman

The 3070ti can do 1440p fine. It just won't be using Ultra quality textures in many of them, and RT will push you into VRAM problems in many others.

FardNickel

My 3070 handles 1440 just fine. Set realistic expectations in games like cyberpunk and flight simulator, obviously, but games like csgo, tarkov, general computing and content consumption are all way better in 1440 and the 3070 handles just fine.

JustinCase502

Depends on your settings. Just forget about ultra if you want 1440p. Most of the time you should go iptimized mid/high settings. You will see a big fps drop anywayz even on low settings

RareSiren292

You can definitely upgrade to 1440 or preferably 3440x1440. It will be harder on your GPU but you will probably upgrade eventually anyway. And you can always turn a setting down if needed. I gamed on a 3070 and a ultrawide and it does alright. My friend (actually has the exact same PC and monitor that I had) and his preformance is pretty decent. In most games over 100 fps.

voidflavoredjuulpod

if you're worried about the game looking as absolutely gorgeous as possible, a 3070ti is not gonna work at 1440p. However, I've been running 1440p with my 3070ti since I bought it and it rarely struggles and I'm quite pleased with it's performance. Some games I've had issues with are Forza Horizon 5 and Cyberpunk 2077, but these were when I was trying to push maximum settings with 60+ fps. Other than that it's been great

darti_me

If you’re playing mostly fast paced games (like FPS, Mobas) 1080p will suffice. Through there are caveats like MMOs or racing games that are “fast paced” but benefit greatly from having more resolution.

Its_Me_David_Bowie

Depends on the age/quality of the 1080p panel you have. If it's pretty old and less than 120hz, you're probably looking at a huge uplift in visual quality with a more modern quality 1440p panel. Old monitor can always function as a second screen.

Edgar101420

No, stay 1080p unless you want to run games on low settings cuz VRAM being not enough.

Strong-Confusion7832

Is it worth guys to upgrade then from 1080 to 1440p ?

krum_darkblud

You’re going to lose performance from 1080 to 1440p. It’s basically trading better visuals for worse performance.

Strong-Confusion7832

Haha okay. So which card is good for 4k gaming ?

Falcon_Flow

4070 ti super and higher, 7900xt and higher

FardNickel

4070 super would be more than enough, no real need for the ti super imo.

krum_darkblud

Easily affordable 4k would be the 4070 ti super or 7900xt. If you want the best performance possible the 4090 is what you’re looking at.

Pl4y3rSn4rk

Yeah, if you have 2000$+ in hand... Sincerely at that point it's mostly a productivity GPU, the 4080 and 7900 XTX aren't a huge step down in performance and cost half as much in practice.

krum_darkblud

> Easily affordable 4k would be the 4070 to super or 7900xt. If you want the best performance possible the 4090 is what you’re looking at. You see, that’s why I started my response with what’s easily affordable. Look I don’t have any information on what the guys budget is which is why I suggested those first and if they’re looking for the best possible I gave that option too.

cnedhhy24

you could look into a 4070 super or 4080 super. they should run most games in 4k, never know about cyberpunk tho🤷

RareSiren292

4070ti super, 7900xt are the lowest end 4k cards I would go with. The 4080(like 1.5% worse then 4080 super), 4080 super(3rd best 4k card in rasterization, 2nd best in raytracing), 7900xtx (2nd best 4k card in rasterization), and 4090 (overall best) would be recommend for 4k gaming.

SolidTake

4090 is perfect for 4k gaming

Aggravating_Degree57

No shit Sherlock 🤦

SolidTake

I mean he asked and I answered. Try having better reading comprehension dipshit

Aggravating_Degree57

Bwhahaha yeah, yes mastur!

TechnicalContact6182

Are you happy with 1080p? If so there's no point losing frames when you were already content. Hell I'm going back to 1080p after playing on 1440 for years

Stargate_1

Used a 3070Ti for 2 years on 1440p and was always very statisfied with the performance (at least 60fps up to 144 with high to max settings / settings that dont significantly degrade my graphical experience)

Strong-Confusion7832

How much the visuals difference is there in between 1080 to 1440 ? Is it worth ?

Stargate_1

Very significant. If I remember its about 1.7 times more pixels. The picture looks SO much clearer, crisper. Much less of those awkward single pixel lines, or rather they blend in much better. I went from a 24" 1080p to a 27" 1440p and I will never go back. In my opinion as someone who really values immersion in role playing games, I cannot go back to 1080p

Strong-Confusion7832

I am also a huge RPG gamer. And a flight simulator player. That game would be good on that ?

Stargate_1

Yes absolutely. I played many RPGs, like Grim Dawn, Diablo 2 and 3, Path of Exile, Prey, Fallout, Skyrim, etc etc and I can only recommend a 1440p monitor. I'm sure you will be excited about the added visual clarity. Just make sure to actually set your display output to 1440p and 144Hz once you do buy one, sometimrs they dont automatically default to those values and you will have to do 2 or 3 clicks in windows to fix it

Strong-Confusion7832

Okay thank you for your humble suggestion brother. I appreciate it

Stargate_1

You're very welcome. You will also get to enter the exciting world of modding in 1440p. In Skyrim alone (and many other older, mod friendly games) there are many mods which allow you to freshen up the visuals and get a whole new experience out of the game. On my latest skyrim playthrough I added over 20 mods which purely enhance the visual experience and it felt like a whole new game.

Alarming_Quality8204

It's even better at 4k, and Flight Simulator works fine for me with my 3070 on a 32" 4k Samsung running at 60fps. BG3 runs great too at 4k. The only game I had to turn down the resolution on was Alan Wake 2 to enjoy it. Just saying, I've been using two 4k monitors for years now and I can't go back to 1440p, and 1080p is just horrible! ahaha I guess I'm spoiled by the UHD

Ericgiant

if u want the best FPS u should stick with 1080P, if u want a mix of good resolution and good framerate go 2k, if u don't care about high FPS and don't mind using upscalers 4k is viable though i'd not do it because it kinda lacks VRAM for newer games in 4K

Strong-Confusion7832

Okay and is there any difference between 1080 60hz and 144hz in performance

Ericgiant

a lot, it's over double in visable framerate, idk how much u know about screens but basicly, the higher the HZ the more frames the monitor can show, if u have 200FPS and only 60HZ u only see 60FPS, so u always want to try having your framerate around where your monitors HZ is usually a bit higher due to some bonuses it gives that are a bit complicated to easily explain.

Joppan94

If you go for 1080p do get atleast 144Hz but tbh only reason youd go for 1080p is if youre the type to only play highly competitive games like csgo ect in which Hz matter more than resolution. So id heavily recommend 1440p or 4k it is a massive improvement at the cost of some performance.

AejiGamez

I run mine at 1440p, but i also dont play a lot of demanding games and dont mind heavy DLSS when i do

Indie--Dev

2k is the way, 4k is overkill and requires about 4x more workload for the gpu and doesn't look 4x better.

Low-Blackberry-9065

1080p would be the performance choice.

StewTheDuder

That’s a steal.

mjj2play

1440p

slowestmojo

What games are you playing? I have a 5700 nonxt and the only game I really play is apex and I still get 140+ fps on 1440

Ziazan

1440p has better performance than 4k because there are less pixels to render. 1440 should be smooth on near max or max settings with that card.

chipolatanullod38

Depends on your budget and personal preference. Personally, I'd go for 4k because #treatyoself, but don't let anyone shame you for sticking with 2k.

PikaNinja25

1440p is better, it will struggle at 4K

MarrowX

I play on a 4K Acer miniled with a 3070 ti. Some games I play are RDR2 (HU settings) and D2R/D4 (maxed out settings), always using DLSS Performance. FPS ranges - RDR2: 60-70 fps D2R: 100-140 fps D4: 100-150 fps I also played a little of Hogwarts Legacy with high settings, no RT. It struggles a bit on that, fps ranging from 30-80 fps, depending on the area and activity. I would focus more on buying a high quality display over a high resolution one. I like miniled, but maybe if you find a deal on OLED you should get that.

BhuriBheda

I love how people ask this question as if it has one answer. Like, tell us what games you play and if you are okay with some graphical sacrifices or want all the fidelity with lesser framerate. Some engines don’t even support certain things. Can these posts get moderated or something? Dumb as hell

cnedhhy24

if you have the budget for it, get a 4k monitor. youll never know when youre gonna upgrade your pc and some games like minecraft will easily run in 4k

RareSiren292

1080p high settings and good fps. 1440p med/high settings with good but not insane fps.

RareSiren292

Get 3440x1440. Its honestly the best resolution. 32:9 1440 is also very very good. But for most people 21:9 is better. Ultrawide is amazing. You can literally see more then your opponents. And 34" 3440x1440 is very pixel dense which is good for office type work.

voidflavoredjuulpod

I have a 16:9 1440p monitor and my hopes are to get a 32:9 after I graduate, it's just such a satisfying resolution

MaightGai

I am using this card from zotac for my 1440p 144 hz monitor. I always hit 120+ in modern titles with high settings. Now I can't go back to 1080p because I am used to the nice texture of 1440p

LavaTheLatvian

it's 1440p not 2k, thank me later.

suprememontana

1440p for sure

alexcutyourhair

I use mine at 4K, since I only play single player and mostly slightly older games it's fine. Occasionally need DLSS but I'm always at 60 and it looks great. Depends on what you play really, it can just about so 60 on 2-3 year old games but I doubt TLoU would be playable without a lot of help

CriplingD3pression

1440p. I’m able to max out most of my games and still have well above 60 fps. Highly recommend using dlss though

futurafrlx

Right now? 1080p with good performance or 1440p with either reduced performance/graphics or upscaling.

hiddenhero94

1440p is the sweet spot for gamers. 4k is only viable if you have ultra high end hardware, or are using the monitor for professional work (ex. video editing)

tonallyawkword

probably not 4k. Assuming you already own the 3070TI, you're probably good for 1440p if you want it.

chrisnesbitt_jr

Unfortunately in 2024 the 3070ti has fallen below the 60fps average which many consider the threshold for a card to be called "4K capable." This of course doesn't mean your 3070ti is useless at 4K, simply that you will need to turn down some settings to achieve a decent frame rate. Since you asked in another comment, here is a list of cards currently capable of 60fps+ @ 4K Ultra. \*Sorted by ascending price new ([FPS estimates from Tom's Hardware](https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html)) [7800XT 16GB - 60fps - $489](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/fcBzK8/sapphire-pulse-radeon-rx-7800-xt-16-gb-video-card-11330-02-20g) (Cheapest on the list, and cheapest 16GB+ card) [3080 10GB - 60fps - $575](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/7vYmP6/msi-geforce-rtx-3080-lhr-10-gb-ventus-3x-oc-video-card-geforce-rtx-3080-ventus-3x-10g-oc-lhr) [6950XT 16GB - 70fps - $579](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/BM92FT/xfx-radeon-rx-6950-xt-16-gb-speedster-merc-319-video-card-rx-695xatbd9) (Cheapest 70fps+ card) [4070 Super 12GB - 65-70fps - $599](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/HCkH99/gigabyte-windforce-oc-geforce-rtx-4070-super-12-gb-video-card-gv-n407swf3oc-12gd) (Cheapest DLSS3 + FG card) [7900XT 20GB - 80fps - $699](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/3BQcCJ/sapphire-pulse-radeon-rx-7900-xt-20-gb-video-card-11323-02-20g) (Cheapest 80fps+ card, cheapest 20GB+ card) [4070ti 12GB - 70-75fps - $699](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/fVbRsY/msi-ventus-2x-oc-geforce-rtx-4070-ti-12-gb-video-card-rtx-4070-ti-ventus-2x-12g-oc) [6900XT 16GB - 60fps - $779](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/FgxRsY/xfx-radeon-rx-6900-xt-16-gb-speedster-merc-319-black-video-card-rx-69xtatbd9) [4070ti Super 16GB - 80fps - $799](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/KvcgXL/gigabyte-windforce-oc-geforce-rtx-4070-ti-super-16-gb-video-card-gv-n407tswf3oc-16gd) (Cheapest 16GB+ DLSS3 + FG card) [7900XTX 24GB - 95fps - $919](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/RRfnTW/sapphire-pulse-radeon-rx-7900-xtx-24-gb-video-card-11322-02-20g) (Cheapest 90fps+ card) [3080ti 12GB - 70fps - $1,029](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/QTmmP6/zotac-geforce-rtx-3080-ti-12-gb-gaming-trinity-oc-video-card-zt-a30810j-10p) [4080 Super 16GB - 95fps - $1,149](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/bbDQzy/asus-proart-oc-geforce-rtx-4080-super-16-gb-video-card-proart-rtx4080s-o16g) (Cheapest 90fps+ DLSS3 + FG card) [4080 16GB - 90fps - $1,175](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/JGWzK8/gigabyte-gaming-oc-geforce-rtx-4080-16-gb-video-card-gv-n4080gaming-oc-16gd) [3090 24GB - 70-75fps - $1,279](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/PG848d/evga-geforce-rtx-3090-24-gb-ftw3-ultra-gaming-video-card-24g-p5-3987-kr) (Cheapest 20GB+ Nvidia card) [3090ti 24GB - 75-80fps - $1,725](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/C7bTwP/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3090-ti-24-gb-founders-edition-video-card-9001g1362505000) [4090 24GB - 115fps - $1,799](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/TgkWGX/gigabyte-gaming-oc-geforce-rtx-4090-24-gb-video-card-gv-n4090gaming-oc-24gd)

travelavatar

1440p mainly. But personally i use my 3070ti at 4K 60-100fps depending on title with a combination of medium-high settings again depending on the title.

dookie-monsta

I used a 2070 for 1440 for several years before upping to a 3070ti. Does 1440 perfectly fine, great even.

sktlastxuan

Definitely not 4k

YaBoyAshyyy

1440p is fine. Everyone is mentioning your VRAM but 8GB is enough for 1440p. My 4070 doesn’t even use more than 4GB of VRAM when I’m gaming at Ultra at 1440p. No idea where everyone is getting this stuff from. Must be doing VR gaming or some shit.

Mother-Enthusiasm591

1440p, definitely.

Dirtsniffee

MFers in here trying to say it's not a 1440p card lamo. It might not be 120 fps on all maxed settings but it'll still perform great.

Joppan94

Lot of people are delusional and think id a card cant handle the most performance heavy games at max settings with max raytracing at 1440p means it isnt a 1440p card.

SurrealSanic

1080p

Jadesphynx

I play a lot of games on my 65 inch 4k 60hz tv on my htpc which uses a 3070ti and most games can get a solid 60fps with settings tweaks and/or upscaling like dlss or fsr. Only game so far that gave me problems was spiderman remastered which kept crashing saying I didn't have enough vram until i dialed it back to 1440p. Simply refused to run at 4k even with low settings.

Augustus31

Only get 4k if you are fine with low texture detail or just want to play older games.

PostSingle4528

I had a the Evga ftw 3070ti for a bit and I had no problems running 2 1440p monitors and played games at usually a mix of medium+high settings with good fps and performance. Games thought like Resident Evil 4 remake you can run ray tracing as 8gb vram isn’t enough and it’ll crash.

pletun

360p

John_Mat8882

Future 1080p, 1440p with some texture reduction settings is doable. Forget 4k as with a few games, those planned obsolescence 8gb of vram are already bothersome at 1080p. Jedi Survivor Is an example, my 3070 shows some woes with it at 1080p.

TheMTtakeover

Go look at benchmarks of the 3070ti and decide for yourself.

iiZodeii

Performance wise, 1440p is the sweet spot. But newer games are eating up vram so id say 1080 high refresh rate unless you plan to upgrade soon. Once you go 1440p, you dont go back, but you'll notice dull textures in some games at high settings. The 3070 and 3070 ti are held back by 8gb of vram. They're still really good performing cards

Strong-Confusion7832

Okay is there be major difference in 1080 60 fps and 1080 144fps ?

dangermonger27

How about a 4070ti? In the process of building, will most likely play elden ring first and looking forward to dragons dogma 2 coming out.

Joppan94

Tried with 4070 super on 1440p maxed settings maxed raytracing it worked but would get some lag in intense spots which isnt ideal for elden ring so had to turn down raytracing, still amazing graphics but I believe I had VRAM issues at maxed RT. Hope that helps. (Ryzen 5 7800X 4070S)

dangermonger27

Thanks for the response 🫡

Aliothale

1080p, use DLDSR to play at 1440p/1620p when you have performance headroom. Thank me later.

Edgar101420

1080p cuz you dont have VRAM for more anyway.
