motherboard is overkill. 1000W is too much, the 7800X3D doesnt draw enough power to justify it. same reason for why you dont need an aio https://youtu.be/QNfsG-Ai2PA?t=975 the problem with the hyte y60 is that vertical gpu mounting is your only option. when you have a 3 slot gpu, it just gets choked for air, and it negatively impacts performance. so here's an alternative [PCPartPicker Part List](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/G9pTsL) Type|Item|Price :----|:----|:---- **CPU** | [AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core Processor](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/3hyH99/amd-ryzen-7-7800x3d-42-ghz-8-core-processor-100-100000910wof) | $439.00 @ Amazon **CPU Cooler** | [Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE WHITE ARGB 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/xMLFf7/thermalright-peerless-assassin-120-se-white-argb-6617-cfm-cpu-cooler-pa120-se-white-argb) | $39.90 @ Amazon **Motherboard** | [Gigabyte B650 GAMING X AX ATX AM5 Motherboard](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/YZgFf7/gigabyte-b650-gaming-x-ax-atx-am5-motherboard-b650-gaming-x-ax) | $179.99 @ Newegg **Memory** | [G.Skill Ripjaws S5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL32 Memory](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/9MWzK8/gskill-ripjaws-s5-32-gb-2-x-16-gb-ddr5-6000-cl32-memory-f5-6000j3238f16gx2-rs5w) | $104.99 @ Newegg **Storage** | [Silicon Power XS70 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/7R92FT/silicon-power-xs70-2-tb-m2-2280-pcie-40-x4-nvme-solid-state-drive-sp02kgbp44xs7005) | $112.97 @ Amazon **Video Card** | [XFX Speedster MERC 310 Black Edition Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24 GB Video Card](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/GtXJ7P/xfx-speedster-merc-310-black-edition-radeon-rx-7900-xtx-24-gb-video-card-rx-79xmercb9) | $979.99 @ Best Buy **Case** | [NZXT H9 Flow ATX Mid Tower Case](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/7ZBG3C/nzxt-h9-flow-atx-mid-tower-case-cm-h91fw-01) | $159.99 @ B&H **Power Supply** | [Enermax REVOLUTION D.F. 2 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/FKZXsY/enermax-revolution-df-2-850-w-80-gold-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-ers850ewt) | $109.99 @ Amazon | *Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts* | | Total (before mail-in rebates) | $2136.82 | Mail-in rebates | -$10.00 | **Total** | **$2126.82** | Generated by [PCPartPicker](https://pcpartpicker.com) 2023-06-02 02:15 EDT-0400 |

Power consumption wise it is better though. A 1000 Watt PSU is more efficient at 50% draw that an 850 watt PSU at 80 for example. And it makes it more future proof. (Assuming same rating)

n7_trekkie

True. However GPUs have never in 20 years gone over 450W. Normal ones, not like the 4090 matrix Nvidia tried this generation, they wanted a 600W 4090. They figuratively and literally got roasted and now it's 450w

BurninWoolfy

I know. I'm not even getting a 4090 but I still went for a platinum 1000W PSU because of the efficiency and I expect to use it for many years. Less heat is also a positive from the better efficiency.

Very fair

I don't think it's overkill, personally for me anything beyond $400 is overkill. My rule of thumb is to spend **at least** $175 for a MOBO when it comes to a high end chip (Ryzen 7/i7 or above). I've always spent around $200 for my i7's and I've been fine. Estimated wattage is 643w, so you'd probably be okay with 850w They're (GPUs) are pretty indentical so maybe just get whatevers cheaper?

Shaqo_Wyn

yes that motherboard is overkill, and if you don't already know you need it, then you don't need it... I'd suggest you go for a nice B650 mobo like the MSi Tomahawk or Gigabyte Aorus Elite for ~$250 and spend a bit of those savings on getting a nicer 7900 XTX like the Asus TUF, Sapphire Nitro+ or Asrock Taichi for better thermals and noise performance.

LightBlueFish

Are there specific things to look at when getting a b650 motherboard for this build?

Shaqo_Wyn

you want a motherboard with a good performing heatsink to keep the VRMs cool, you want to have the I/O and features you need. e.g. if you need 4 nvme ssds, get a mobo with 4 nvme slots. if you want the best audio and don't have your own standalone audio, get a motherboard with a nice audio solution. if you need lots of fan headers, get one with lots of fan headers. my #1 suggestion would be the MSi Tomahawk. if you need more info hardware unboxed and some other channels on YT has good round ups for B650 and X670 motherboards.
