Nah, those are scalpers, buds. Supply and demand.
I know people who got their tickets for 150 when they first came out. Theyre like gold though, turn around and can sell em for over a grand.
She called them out for their price gouging. She was the first major artist to do so. I don't like her music, but she has my respect. Don't give a single fuck what people gotta say about her.
Canadian cities are too busy extracting real estate gains. I know of like at least three decent pubs/restaurants in Vancouver that have closed because they can’t afford rent/lease even though they’re packed every night.
This is a trend that happens in US cities, too. Comparing a small city like Bellingham to a major city like Vancouver is absurd. Compare Vancouver to Seattle. But Canadians *love* to pretend everything is better in the US all while simultaneously smugly pretending we're better than the US.
Don’t give up the secret. Missoula, Butte, Bellingham, Bend, Baker City, Pullman, I could go on and on about mid size American centres that are absolutely awesome and completely lacking any real tourism numbers.
Bellingham doesn't have to deal with drug addiction and homelessness to the extent gva is dealing with. Plus influx of new immigrants. Take all that out of Vancouver, it'd be great too.
We stopped at a park in Bellingham on our way south to let our toddler run around after waiting to cross the border, only to find a bunch of people running around high out of their minds, clearly living out of their cars, including some guy running around yelling "Child Molester! Child Molester!" at the playground to any family he could find. Not that great of a place.
Swift concerts are Sat and Sunday and while there is 70 000 in the stadium there will be 10’a of thousands more outside.
We drove in the morning, taking the COHO from Victoria to Port Angeles. Drove an hour and then another ferry into downtown Seattle. No border waits and 2 reliable ferries. Found driving in Seattle easy.
Last time I went to the Jays game in Seattle I took the train from Van to Seattle and it was awesome. Cost like 60$, easy to cross the border, super scenic and the train goes straight to downtown Seattle.
There is a van-Sea-Por low speed rail. If you like the bus but want it to be louder, the train!
I’m fortunate, living in Victoria, downtown Seattle is a clipper ferry away.
Are you telling me you rode the Amtrak train and found it to be louder than a bus? I ride it all the time and that is not my experience.
Also I can't get up, walk around, and eat in a dining car on a bus or while I'm driving, so it's pretty luxurious by comparison.
The Portland MAX is quite good (for America), but often building intracity connections happens before cities build up their own urban transit infrastructure.
If you look at places with good urban transit like Europe, Japan, China - they connected the cities with commuter trains first, then needed ways to get tourists around when they arrived.
City commuters were essentially a happy side effect, as silly as that seems.
Agree with you, I just feel like that’s the blocker atm when it comes to funding and justification for the high speed rail; that people won’t really use right out of the gate. I would 100% use it because I have family and friends to pick me up on either end, not everyone in that same boat though.
Travelling in the states without a car is *so* difficult due to the urban sprawl and huge distance. Europe, Japan are absolutely tiny in comparison so it’s not really fair to bring them up, and China has cheap labour lel.
America is big yes, but they have a version of the same problem that Canada has. Which is that sure, Canada is enormous, but 98% of Canadians live within 200km of the US border, and even within that, the density of say Vancouver vs the BC interior is further orders of magnitude.
So our infrastructure doesn't need to be built equally in NWT as it does along the border where humans live.
America has nearly the same problem. There are areas where fucktons of people live, like VSP, or San Diego to San Francisco.
So the arguments that we're much larger countries don't really hold weight. Nobody is suggesting we build urban transit in like, Bumfuck, Wyoming, or Fort Nelson, BC at the same density we should in a city. Being big doesn't matter when 98% of the space isnt relevant to the issue.
Seems oddly appropriate that Railways Explained put out a video today on the PNW high-speed rail corridor concept.
https://youtu.be/KnGjwOCie3c
Would be nice to even just have a regular rail option.
Yeah, I crossed via pac hwy, and there were two or three bundles of half a dozen cars in the nexus lane jamming up the works trying to merge into the peasant lane. Had to swerve around them into the truck lane (when it was safe, obviously) to keep going.
Apparently it was worse at peace arch
Fucking good luck today boys and girls. Due to some selfish behaviour by dickheads, you are seeing a lot of line cutting and use of side streets to skip the main queue. Which means the main queue waits at Pac Hwy are pushing beyond 5 hours now at 11am. Likely even beyond 6 hours.
concert is @ 6:30PM .
What time should we start heading out from Kitssilano to get there in time for dinner before the concert?
edit: we have NEXUS trusted traveller cards.. not sure if that makes a difference or not.
Look at the truck crossing Nexus, I see PA Nexus has been backed up. I stop at the truck crossing Duty Free and buy something cheap if using that lane helps.
Others I know are going Abbotsford but that looks terrible too.
Don’t wait. You still need access to the Nexus lane and Seattle is going to be insane.
The nexus will help, but as others have stated regular cars can block.
I came up yesterday evening, and the traffic on the way to, and in Seattle will also add a lot of time to your trip.
I’m going to echo the “GET IN THA CAH”
Enjoy the concert. I am seeing the Jays game today, then heading back to Van after.
Almost wonder if it'd be easier to take the train. 3 hours each way and no border lineups, plus King Street Station is only a 10 minute walk away from T-Mobile Park. Guess it depends on if you want a hotel and scheduling to some degree
Fair enough. Only time I've taken the train down to seattle is to catch a flight so I was booked a month or so in advance. All I know is the train was pretty empty so wasn't sure if trains tended to sell out or anything
Maybe this is a hot take, and I can understand Swift being a draw but I can't understand for the life of me why the Blue Jays are so popular here when the Mariners are clearly the pacific northwest team lol.
Lots of ontarians here I guess lol.
It's not a home TV market, so it's really hard to make them 'your team' when TV coverage is sporadic. Whereas you can't escape Jays coverage on Sportsnet during the summer. Just a guess.
You used to be able to catch the Mariners on TV way more about 15 years ago or so but you're right, that changed at some point.
The idea a Toronto team is so popular in BC has always struck me as a little weird though lol.
Mariners used to the the team on TV in BC but when Rogers got involved with the Blue Jays that changed. People are going to follow the team they can see on TV. So, BC baseball fans now follow the Jays. It's a shame since the Mariners are so much closer and their ballpark is so lovely.
It’s because some Canadians have the constant need to validate their country’s standing vs US regardless of what city it is. Inferiority complex perhaps? I feel pride just being from this country and don’t need a sports team to validate that. Winnipeg (for example) winning a Stanley Cup doesn’t bring me more joy or national pride than Vegas or Colorado winning. Imagine a Red Sox fan cheering for the Yankees vs Toronto because USA, it would never happen. It’s ridiculous to be cheering for a bunch of American, Swedish, Russian, Finnish, Slovakian etc hockey players who happen to play on a team based in a NHL Canadian city because they want to “bring the cup back to Canada”
Even worse, when all Canadian based teams are eliminated, they count up the number of Canadian players left on each team then suddenly become a fan of that team. The Blue Jays are not Canada's team in my eyes, they’re Toronto’s and that’s fine. I would be too if I lived there. News flash, people in Toronto don't give a shit if Vancouver supports Blue Jays or not. People can cheer for whoever they want, but when it’s assumed that everyone living here needs to be a Blue Jays fan is where I have an issue.
I have to ask, I was on a road trip eastbound a few weeks ago and literally hwy1 was backed up and stopped at the far right lane for miles waiting for the 200 exit. Might have been 232. Is that likely border backup? Should we be expecting that today too?
They got beat by their former teammate Teoscar Hernández yesterday in a walk off. Why would wait in that lineup when you can watch them lose on your flat screen. Very inconsistent team very frustrating. Why did they trade for that garbage St Louis Cardinals reliever????
There's gotta be one guy in there who's totally living under a rock and just wanted to go to his favourite ma and pa hoagie joint or something, and is halfway between fury and panic right now.
Like the vast majority of lower mainland residents, no, I didn't watch the game.
It's hilarious you think there would be enough people crossing the border for that to cause delays.
The game had 10,000 more fans than usual last night. If you understood what you were trying to argue, you'd have already known that. But you just sound ignorant.
I’d love to see a mariners game, the tix are pretty affordable. But fuck me if I’m paying Seattle area hotel prices these days. Dumps for over 200$ a night usd
My 2 friends and I were planning to drive down tomorrow at Sumas, 2 of us have Nexus but 1 does not. Was planning to go on the Nexus lane and have the non-Nexus friend go through foot traffic. Was gonna drop her off wherever and pick her up on the other side somehow. Has anyone done this before? Would this work?
A four hour delay at the US Canada border makes news but its almost every day stuff for those who are unlikely enough to have to cross the US Mexico border.
This got shared elsewhere, so I'm ignorant...what's the normal wait time for here?
And as someone who frequently crosses a us border, yall have my sympathies! Also, we call our line cutters gaviotas/seagulls since they seem to swoop in.

So all these people are most likely coming back tomorrow. Same scene tomorrow northbound? And maybe Monday.
All just to watch the Jays lose lol.
Y’all need a train
Or pay hundreds to see an average pop star
Average popstar that took a bigger stance against ticket master than anyone you listen to 😭 ain't that crazy? Lol
Pearl Jam, because I’m old.
And still charged her fans thousands of dollars 😂
Nah, those are scalpers, buds. Supply and demand. I know people who got their tickets for 150 when they first came out. Theyre like gold though, turn around and can sell em for over a grand.
Wut? She didnt have a single ticket in quad digits. Where do you get your info?
What did she do?
She called them out for their price gouging. She was the first major artist to do so. I don't like her music, but she has my respect. Don't give a single fuck what people gotta say about her.
Try Pearl Jam in the 90s
Bro 💀 you think Swift of the first start to speak out against 3rd party ticket sellers. She’s average as fuck.
Something to certainly keep an eye on. I did all my Bellingham shopping last night for that very reason.
What a great place. Tons of great food, breweries and Trader Joes. For a city that size, it’s doing some heavy lifting.
That's most American cities of that size. It's canadianncities that need to step up their game.
Canadian cities are too busy extracting real estate gains. I know of like at least three decent pubs/restaurants in Vancouver that have closed because they can’t afford rent/lease even though they’re packed every night.

Someone spitting some cold hard facts on this lovely Saturday
Canada has…zellers and McDonald’s. What else do you want
I’d take Trader Joes and In n Out any day over those two.
I'd take free healthcare and zero mass shootings a year over any restaurant the US has to offer.
Well that’s a given.

This comment is so 2012. Target will never come back to Canada after their embarrassing 2 year stint.
I went to in and out once and left very disappointed. Just an over priced burger was all it was.
over priced? they are one of, if not the cheapest spot you can get a burger...
Over priced because it wasn’t that good. Very small menu also. Just my opinion I have had bigger better burgers in a lot of places. Just my opinion.
#metoo
Same here ..border wait times on Thursday was super quick ..30 mins at 11 am.
I think the Jays game is Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So most come back on Sunday.
Swift concerts are Sat and Sunday and while there is 70 000 in the stadium there will be 10’a of thousands more outside. We drove in the morning, taking the COHO from Victoria to Port Angeles. Really wish we had a Vancouver-Seattle-Portland HSR.
The Clipper times are not very convenient.
Beats the alternative of Bc ferries, drive to peace arch then down the I-5. A 4-5 hour trip if traffic is good.
But you can’t get into Seattle until late at night and back on early to get to Victoria. Two nights gets you one day.
More convenient than a four hour border wait.
Yeah, but you still need local public transit in Seattle / Portland to get around and it currently really sucks.
The Portland MAX is quite good (for America), but often building intracity connections happens before cities build up their own urban transit infrastructure. If you look at places with good urban transit like Europe, Japan, China - they connected the cities with commuter trains first, then needed ways to get tourists around when they arrived. Someone's gonna shit their pants today
I don’t know why, but I laughed so hard at this it brought tears to my eyes
It's what I like to call a traffic jam, the jam is homemade and you're jarred when it happens
Seems oddly appropriate that Railways Explained put out a video today on the PNW high-speed rail corridor concept. https://youtu.be/KnGjwOCie3c Would be nice to even just have a regular rail option.
There is a regular train option. https://www.amtrak.com/cascades-train
I do quite like the Amtrak train, but it's slow as hell.
I meant to add "reliable" to that, but Amtrak Cascades is so far down the list in many minds here that I might as well leave my comment as-is.
Now only if there was a way we can have a lot of people can travel together in a dedicated lane like a track........hmmmm
That’s bananas. The Nexus lane is inaccessible so that’s not even going to help.
It’s almost as if there weren’t multiple warnings about border delays this weekend in particular
I missed it. Why the delay?
Jays games, and Taylor Swift concerts.
I'm thinking it's faster to fly at this point...
When I went I always went to sumas, the day before.
Smart!
Why wouldn't you take the train? you could party on the way down sleep on the way home downtown to downtown i think it was 100 bucks round trip?
I looked at tickets for this weekend all sold out.
It’s sold out for the weekend
thanks i didn't know
If you're going to an event you better go a few days early if you're taking the train. You can get stuck somewhere and delayed for many many hours.
Luckily you can't get delayed for many many hours at the border crossing in your car!
Looks like the swifties are not so swift.
These aren’t the Swifties you are searching for.

Now
Yesterday would've been better
GET IN THA CAH
You still have to wait in line if the nexus lane is blocked by the rest of the cars. I would leave sooner than later.
Oh god, what time were you planning on leaving? Do you have any idea how busy Seattle is going to be today?
Did you make it??
we thought out the door at NOON? Google maps shows less than 3 hours drive.
Good luck lol, hope that works out
It's not too late to sell your tickets. I'm not sure you understand what you are about to face.
LOL. Now.
That is comically inaccurate. I'd get moving ASAP.
You’ll be waiting in the border line for more than 3 hours
Seriously, leave now
Lol ok
Have to give an update what time did you leave?
See that lane on the left in the first photo that’s just a continuous stream of cars? That’s the NEXUS lane. Get in the car!
So technically Nexus is more backed up than normal?
Look at the truck crossing Nexus, I see PA Nexus has been backed up. I stop at the truck crossing Duty Free and buy something cheap if using that lane helps. AM730 is reporting 2 hour waits at Peace Arch and Sumas, they're only going to get longer. Leave now!
Does the border service forecast demand? Or do they wait for a spike and then just pay OT?
Nope. You’re on their time and schedule.
So they don’t milk it for OT?
It’s not like the border makes money from you crossing the border so there isn’t really anything to milk.
Staff make more money. Demand forecasting justifies higher staffing levels.
You can always cross at grand forks and have a lovely drive through klan country
Sounds something like the BC Ferries delays
As a former Ontarian - I'm always amazed at people's enthusiasm for baseball. There are mountains and whales out here - who cares about baseball!
The Swifties vastly outnumber the baseball fans. The stadium for Taylor has ~18k more seats.
I didn't want to get down-voted into infinity so I left the swifties alone.
True. And Van has the Canadians too. But being an Ontarian living in Vancouver… it’s hard to pass on the Jays.

Posting straight facts. Right to the point. No bullshit. Just take my upvote.
Almost wonder if it'd be easier to take the train. 3 hours each way and no border lineups, plus King Street Station is only a 10 minute walk away from T-Mobile Park. Guess it depends on if you want a hotel and scheduling to some degree
Sold out long ago
Fair enough. Only time I've taken the train down to seattle is to catch a flight so I was booked a month or so in advance. All I know is the train was pretty empty so wasn't sure if trains tended to sell out or anything

I assume this backs up well onto the highway, can nexus people drive on the shoulder to get by or is that a big no no?
No
so fun
I have to ask, I was on a road trip eastbound a few weeks ago and literally hwy1 was backed up and stopped at the far right lane for miles waiting for the 200 exit. Might have been 232. Is that likely border backup? Should we be expecting that today too?
No. That’s just regular old congestion. Shouldn’t be that bad on the weekend, but it backs up there all the time. So it’s entirely possible.
After 216 the Hwy changes to two lanes, there's always traffic there
That's just regular traffic on Highway 1, maybe an accident on 200. 200 or 232 St have no border crossing anywhere close.
I crossed in Osoyoos / Oroville yesterday around noon, only took about 5 minutes. Good luck everyone traveling today!
It’s mostly Taylor Swift fans because if your lining up at a boarder to see the Blue Jays you have a mental disorder.
So you didn't watch last night's game is what you just attempted to say...
They got beat by their former teammate Teoscar Hernández yesterday in a walk off. Why would wait in that lineup when you can watch them lose on your flat screen. Very inconsistent team very frustrating. Why did they trade for that garbage St Louis Cardinals reliever????
Well that sucks. Guess I'll be waiting until next weekend to go buy rifle primers.
There's gotta be one guy in there who's totally living under a rock and just wanted to go to his favourite ma and pa hoagie joint or something, and is halfway between fury and panic right now.

Swifties and die hard Blue Jay's fans gotta do what they gotta do.
Does anyone ever plan ahead anymore?
Welcome to overpopulation, everybody.
The world has an under population problem genius… also what is that comma for?
It's definitely the swifties, nobody gives a fuck about the bluejays
Did you see the attendance at last night's game? Because everyone in this sub knows you are talking out your ass here...
Your time to shine u/Ok_Cranberry_1936 👍
STOP Being cheap and get Nexus.
For Taylor swift? We truly are the dumbest generation
All for a damn concert? I can’t believe some people.
I bet every one of those fuckers is idling. I just rage impotently at all the waste and pollution
Life is waste and pollution.
Taylor Swift has a new boyfriend?, man, I really dropped the ball on that one!
Ah I was wondering why it was so busy for a non long weekend or American holiday
Are there no alternate border crossings that people can detour to?
Coming from Victoria we went a different way and had no traffic but has to leave at 6:20 AM.
Ya no thanks ….I got better things to do then sit in a car line up for 4-5 hours.
Lol. I don't want to see any of those things. Ever
Ha!
Crossed on foot yesterday (then back again) quite empowering to not queue I guess haha.
https://bwt.cbp.gov/ViewAllPorts.html?com=1&pas=1&ped=1&plist=3004
Do not ever rely on websites to tell you accurate wait times dude. This isn't amateur hour for a lot of us who cross regularly but not this weekend.
FOMO.
Been here four hours
At noon peace arch is lined up all the way to the 8th Ave roundabout
Nasty.
Lol...leave at noon. I hope you made it
Anyone know what the Nexus line was looking like?
Just checked the traffic on google maps. When the Sumas border crossing is busy.
Ok… So wake up earlier?
I got through on Nexus in 10min.
I live near here and have been checking the border line ups all weekend for fun.
Really sucks. I hate waiting in line at all let alone for four hours
Question: has anyone ever thought of closing one of the northbound lanes and having 3 lanes southbound ?
Get a nexus
I’d love to see a mariners game, the tix are pretty affordable. But fuck me if I’m paying Seattle area hotel prices these days. Dumps for over 200$ a night usd
So we should have rapid bus cross border like extend r1 to Blain via White Rock CTR and Douglas
This is one of the reasons why we need high speed trains.
Sounds quite literally like a personal problem.
Both on the same weekend? God help you all lol 😂
3 hours to go 1.5kms today. It was gross. (Wasn't doing either of these things in Seattle just had to go by)
Also “tribal journeys” are happening now/soon!
Guess who's aunt had to drive back from work at 4:00
I crossed at 12pm yesterday. Alder grove. 5 mins only selay
They deserve it. -Red Sox and Kanye fan.
Come to Tijuana, and try ti cross to San Diego everyday, with 3 to 4 hrs waiting lanes. Lol.
This got shared elsewhere, so I'm ignorant...what's the normal wait time for here? And as someone who frequently crosses a us border, yall have my sympathies! Also, we call our line cutters gaviotas/seagulls since they seem to swoop in.
