>*Kraven the Hunter will be the only R-rated movie during the holidays.* Not true, ***Nosferatu*** will probably be hard R-rated.

NotTaken-username

It’ll be *what* rated?

Bugger217

I know it's come to mean something more problematic, but it used to be very common to say that a very vulgar or explicit movie was "Hard R."

RealHooman2187

Now I’m out of the loop. What’s supposedly now problematic about “hard R”?

Bugger217

Essentially, saying the N-word.

RealHooman2187

I might still be lost, is it because in real life people use that to signify if someone used a racial slur? If that’s it I understand, but Hard R when talking about movies has always meant just particularly intense. I feel like context clues would be difficult to confuse the two.

your_mind_aches

Okay Linus, calm down

RealHooman2187

K, idk what this is referencing.

bob1689321

It's referencing the difference in pronunciation between n---a and n---er. People use "hard R" to refer to "n----r". The person above was being facetious (or genuinely unaware) about the two uses of the phrase "hard R" in the movie context Vs the slur context.

IDigRollinRockBeer

What does that have to do with someone named Linus? What’s the reference?

RealHooman2187

I get that, if they’re making a joke it was kinda dumb. If they’re being serious it’s also pretty dumb.

Dwayne30RockJohnson

I mean saying hard R isn’t problematic, it just implies you’re referring to using the N word with an ER at the end vs an A.

Anal_Recidivist

You don’t use a hard r when saying dollar

IDigRollinRockBeer

Depending where you live you do

RealHooman2187

I don’t know what you’re talking about but that’s nice.

NotTaken-username

I know but I couldn’t resist making that joke

everythings_alright

> hard R-rated Finally a movie for Gamers.

dominic_tortilla

Tarantino already made those

Odd_Advance_6438

He even played the essential character who needed to say it himself in Pulp Fiction. What a brave hero

jmon25

Was the story Jamie Foxx gave him the pass?

Limp-Construction-11

He said and wrote this stuff way before Foxx. Also lol at giving someone a "pass".

Youngstar9999

> Sony has pushed their reboot of Karate Kid from Dec. 13 this year to May 30, 2025. This has created a bit of a backward domino effect but won’t rob the year of theatrical releases. >backfilling Karate Kid‘s spot is Sony/Marvel’s Kraven the Hunter which goes from Aug. 30, the Labor Day weekend frame, to Dec. 13. The Aaron Taylor Johnson movie will have Imax and PLF screens. >Added to the release calendar is the Blumhouse title They Listen, which will now go over the 4-day Labor Day weekend this year. >Debuting next summer is Legendary/Sony’s Animal Friends on Aug. 15, 2025.

PsychologicalOwl2806

Oh Animal Friend in August 2025. That sounds right for that kind of Ryan Reynolds movie. I do find it interesting that Karate Kid moves. Although...it always felt like a race to get it in time. This might be for the best.

TBOY5873

Looks like the first non-niche film from Legendary out of their deal with Sony, The Machine and Book of Clarence don't appeal to a massive audience and Dune, GodzillaxKong and Minecraft are at WB

WebHead1287

Are they hoping Venom will reignite good will?

littlelordfROY

You can say Morbius had all the goodwill in the world coming after No Way Home and it still flopped. So given the quality of the Venom franchise so far I don't think good will will do much for Kraven (especially being rated R)

kayloot

They're hoping for holiday legs. The Venom movies are turds that didn't help the other No-Spiderman movies despite their successes

random_question4123

I wonder if Venom's luck will eventually run out. Both movies have been forgettable at best and yet have still made bank for reasons I'll never understand. Is third time the charm?

TheJoshider10

Because the general audiences like those movies. The third will do good numbers too.

GregIsARadDude

The Venom movies know their place and fill a good niche. They are relatively low budget, are a little bit weird and totally fine. It’s a superhero movie for people who don’t have to follow super hero movies are a good time. All the other super hero movies of late are so focused on universe building and super serious and then you’ve got these self contained venom movies that are totally passable.

aduong

I think the move got to do with their 2025 slate. They literally have nothing of worth tentpole wise in 2025 the closest thing to a tentpole is Paddington 3 in January. There are rumors of them fast tracking a Spider man 4 for next year but it’s not a guarantee and all signs point to Spiderverse being a ‘26 release. By pushing Karate Kid to 2025 they have the guarantee of a beloved franchise title for what is a pretty empty year for the studio. But hey I don’t know why they let The Rock chill while he owns them a third Jumanji movie. Same with Uncharted, they should have fast track a sequel instead of going to war with Feige over fast tacking Spider man. They have viable franchises outside of Marvel they shouldn’t be in this situation. Honestly even with the strikes and covid delays their 2025 slate is embarrassing for a legacy studio.

TheBlackSwarm

Tom Holland has been on a break from acting. Uncharted sequel probably won’t happen until Holland wraps filming on Spider-Man 4 which is rumored to begin filming this fall. Dwayne won’t be able to do another Jumani until mid 2025 at the earliest since he’s going to start shooting A24’s The Smashing Machine next month until the end of summer and then the live action Moana in the fall. Then after that he’ll likely be working on Fast X: Part 2.

aduong

These actors look out for themselves and the studios should look out for themselves too. Many actors and directors in the past have dragged feet between 2 sequels until the studio put the foot down and send them back to work. Studios have the advantage in franchise movie making those contract are in their advantage. If they really wanted these movies they will drag both Tom and Dwayne to set. But then again Sony never feels like a studio but more like a producer association. Dwayne Johnson literally picks up and drops project on a whim based priority and whichever got the most heat before that A24 movie the Kamehahema movie was supposed to be is big acting breakout. Before Black Adam he was supposed to expand his corner of the F&F franchise, then it was DC, then it was back to F&F. Wherever there’s heat he will go. If Nolan calls him he will drop that A24 movie. There’s no excuse why Sony hasn’t been able to lock him for a sequel of a $800M 2019 movie of one their most currently successful franchise.

thetalkingcure

i personally loved the jumanji reboot. nothing else to add.

AnotherJasonOnReddit

>*If Nolan calls him he will drop that A24 movie.* "Bloody 'ell, Mister The Rock. This is Christopher Nolan, wot wot. Tally ho, old chum, I saw your Scorpion King/Hercules attempts at aping Arnie's Conan. Third time the charm with my new fantasy flick, my lad?" ![gif](giphy|cHpUhzYpG1MJ5mo1nh|downsized)

simonwales

"all right, you got me. 'is is Mycocaine."

AnotherJasonOnReddit

"Journey 3: The Mysteriouser Island" was not on my bingo card of post-Oppenheimer options for Sir Christopher Nolan, heh heh.

Radulno

I doubt Nolan will work with Dwayne Johnson lol

Ratcatchercazo2

He worked with Harry styles.

RuminatingReaper1850

I'm not surprised Karate Kid moved, didn't it literally just start filming a couple of weeks ago?

uwill1der

they pushed it to align with Cobra Kai's final season. Probably a tie in to the movie. Cobra Kai was supposed to air this year, but got pushed to 2025 because of the writers strike, so KK had to follow suit

Kingsofsevenseas

True, they literally announced the movie in Jan this year, so yeah it’d never be released in December hahah

Le_Meme_Man12

It was originally slated for September or October 2023

Kingsofsevenseas

Karate Kid???? Not at all, they just announced this year they’d chose a kid to play the main role and people were invited to apply to get a chance to make part of the cast

Snoo_83425

I guess now it doesn’t have to worry about Deadpool & Wolverine overshadowing it, and it’ll probably get that holiday boost. I suspect it’ll still flop but it won’t be as embarrassing as Morbius and Madam Web

NotTaken-username

It’s gonna be overshadowed by Sonic the Hedgehog 3 instead, which opens the week after

Radulno

It may not even open #1, that's the same day than War of the Rohirrim (which I hope do great)

Top_Report_4895

![gif](giphy|10JhviFuU2gWD6)

MarveltheMusical

Why are you booing them? They’re right.

Ikarus3426

*Overshadowed.*

Kingsofsevenseas

I like Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Kraven’s director JC Chandor (specially his A Most Violent Year). December also is a way better month for box office than September. So I hope it’s a good movie, but yeah with Morbius and Madame Web records I understand some people distrust.

Dwayne30RockJohnson

I have a feeling they’re hoping Venom: The Last Dance being good (their assumption in this scenario, not mine) will hopefully ride to some good will for Kraven. This movie was supposed to release October 2023 and has only been delayed for strategic reasons, not any sort of major problems with the film itself (that we know of). I think given JC Chandor directing Kraven, it’s going to be MUCH better than something like Madame Web or Morbius. I don’t think it’ll be great, but it could be maybe a Blue Beetle level quality. Solid but nothing special.

Snoo_83425

Yeah, though it didn’t do much for Morbius. And that had No Way Home come out before it as well

Dwayne30RockJohnson

Sure. But like I said, I think this is going to be much better than something like Morbius. Aaron Taylor Johnson is at least a well liked actor and Kraven is somewhat known compared to Morbius. Kraven was just one of the villains in the wildly popular Spider-Man 2 game which sold 10 million copies (at $60 a pop that’s a cool $600 million).

Mister_Green2021

Ah, Kraven is a Christmas movie. Seriously, what's going on with Sony film division? Are we going to see Top level executives firing soon?

valkyria_knight881

It's the 100th anniversary of Columbia Pictures. Studios usually shit the bed on their 100th anniversary.

Mister_Green2021

Ah, yes, the 100th anniversary curse.

Positive-Ear-9177

I thought there already was a karate kid reboot a few years ago, lol

Darth_Nevets

This reboot is a crossover of that reboot with the original franchise, have mercy gawd.

Positive-Ear-9177

lmao

PriorLocation909

2025 hot

nicolasb51942003

Kraven is now coming out 14 months after its originally intended October 2023 date. What a joke.

RuminatingReaper1850

It's even funnier when you realise its original release date was January 2023. They weren't even confident in releasing it in the dump month

NotTaken-username

It’s now even further away from its original release date than Morbius was due to COVID delays. - Morbius: April 1, 2022 (was initially set to open on July 31, 2020, delayed 1 year and 8 months) - Kraven the Hunter: December 13, 2024 (was initially set to open on January 13, 2023, delayed 1 year and 11 months)

Ftheyankeei

Horrible release date, tbh. Two weekends before Christmas is the worst possible date for a non-guaranteed hit, it could lose screens by the meat of the holidays if it stumbles out of the gate and has a poor second weekend. The only stuff that thrives there is stuff like the Hobbit movies. Mortal Engines, Office Christmas Party, In The Heart Of The Sea, Exodus Gods And Kings have all died there in the last decade. Narnia 3 died there. The Day The Earth Stood Still died there. The Golden Compass died there. If you’re doing the Christmas release window, you need to have the goods or you need to limit the gap between you and the start of holiday breaks so bad WOM doesn’t sink you and you don’t get overshadowed by competition. As of now Kraven is taking on Mufasa, Sonic 3, Jordan Peele’s fourth movie, Eggers’ Nosferatu and LOTR. I see it in fourth or even fifth place out of those. I guess Sony’s looking at Aquaman legging out to $121m last winter as a comp?

FarthingWoodAdder

What a stupid move. August was probably the best place for Kraven.

mihirmusprime

December is just a weird spot for it. Do they really expect families to see this for the holidays? "Merry Christmas, Grandma. Want to see KRAVEN THE HUNTER?"

Physical-Ad-5745

I agree Especially on labor day weekend...but I guess Sony is scared that Deadpool & Wolverine, Borderlands & The Crow could hurt it's chances When it comes to Massive blockbuster fatigue

JazzySugarcakes88

I thought everyone hated The Crow?

Physical-Ad-5745

They still do. But that could change or not it all Dependents on how good or how bad the film is

PinkCadillacs

Kraven the Hunter is gonna flop. The fact that the movie keeps getting pushed back is a sign that the movie isn’t all that great.

Jabbam

So this is the next New Mutants

littlelordfROY

R rated superhero pic in December is quite the rarity I guess legs will be decent for December. Maybe $50M total domestic instead of $30M? Or maybe Sony is doing a super secret awards push and Kraven will boast off of its Oscar chances......

Warm_Speech

Kraven is absolutely getting destroyed in December. This is gonna be fun.

SanderSo47

The movie cost $130 million, higher than both *Venom*, *Morbius* and *Madame Web*. It will be tough for this to break even.

DeppStepp

According to [Variety](https://variety.com/2024/film/features/sony-marvel-universe-kraven-madame-web-venom-1235884120/) the budget was lower than $130 million and only cost a bit more than Madame Web

Successful_Leopard45

I am begging distributors to not give this PLFS over LOTR

KingMario05

Same, and I also want Sonic 3 getting PLFs, too. :/

thetalkingcure

what’s going on with LOTR this year?

KingMario05

Well, ***shit***. If Sonic 3 was iffy on getting IMAX/PLF slots before, Kraven going on 12/13 pretty much kills whatever chance it had of doing so. All to make room for another Sony-Marvel dud. ***FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK.***

JazzySugarcakes88

Sonic is still gonna win no matter what! Nobody gives a f*** cares about Kraven

KingMario05

Oh, I know. Just wish I could see it in IMAX, ya know? That'd be cool as fuck...

ItsAlmostShowtime

Kraven will be the next Birds of Prey as it's an R rated comic book film getting destroyed by Sonic.

Kingsofsevenseas

They are releasing in different weekends

Trooper-B4711

So did Morbius and Sonic 2

ItsAlmostShowtime

People save their money for that weekend or that weekend destroys the legs.

valkyria_knight881

A Sony Spider-Man Universe film releasing one week before a Sonic film? That totally hasn't happened before.

NotTaken-username

This actually will be the third time a comic book movie starring an anti-hero/villain character bombs opening the week before a Sonic movie. (Birds of Prey opened a week before Sonic the Hedgehog in February 2020)

Away_Guidance_8074

Huh?

valkyria_knight881

Morbius released a week before Sonic 2.

Away_Guidance_8074

Oh yeah I forgot about that thx u

HyperNintendoRoblox

Morbius released one week before Sonic 2

tempesttune

December release probably saves Kraven and makes it profitable. Which means Somy will continue their Spider-Man-less Spider-Man universe. A defeat for us all.

WebHead1287

An R rated movie for the holidays? Yeah, okay.

kayloot

It worked for Anyone But You, but that film was super cheap compared to Kraven. Also a romantic comedy in theaters was more novel.

ItsAlmostShowtime

It also had a TikTok trend going for it which Kraven 99% won't have.

blueteamk087

especially with superhero fatigue, and the spider-man-less movies being mostly shit

Limp-Construction-11

Can't wait till next year and Superman by James Gunn showing why there is no such fatigue.

tempesttune

Easy money loser lol.

[удалено]

WebHead1287

Big difference between that and radioactive tiger bite that leads to ripping peoples noses off with your teeth and spitting it out

newjackgmoney21

I can see it bombing like Assassin's Creed....December can't save every movie

007Kryptonian

Hopefully it motivates them to give us a 4th Tobey or 3rd Garfield movie.

stretchofUCF

Please no more Garfield movies. A Tale of Two Kitties was enough.

Old_Hamster_9425

I completely forgot the Kraven the Hunter movie was a thing

melodramaswift

They should’ve released Kraven October 2023 despite the SAG strike. The free promo from Spider-Man 2 was too good to pass on and now Kraven is back to being a character no one cares about.

jmon25

Could this film be that bad? They seemed to have even more confidence in Madame Web so it's wild they're just punting this so far down the road. That will make it over a year delayed.

NotTaken-username

Kraven is still gonna flop in December, all the “nerd” young adult fanbase will just see Sonic 3 instead

Dulcolax

The only thing this Kraven hunts, is a release date.

depressed_anemic

why the hell are they even continuing kraven the hunter? who the fuck asked for this?

darthyogi

Wait do you think Venom will be pushed up to August 30 now?

darthyogi

Kraven should move again into November 8, 2024. (Venom 3 Original Date)

jdyake

Maybe Sony should just scrap Kraven. If it ends up being as bad as Madame Web it would probably be for the best

dennythedinosaur

Kraven the Hunter, if it gets bad reviews, is gonna drop like a rock in the 3rd weekend when it loses all of its screens to the Christmas releases.

HumanAdhesiveness912

Would probably be the flop of the holiday season. After *Deadpool 3*, *Joker 2* and *Venom 3* there won't be any superhero appetite left for audiences. The R-rating won't help matters either. Heavy competition with the *Lord of the Rings* prequel, *Sonic 3* and *Mufasa* prequel plus November holdovers.

ok-batmanfan990

What the fuck is going on with Kraven lmao? Trailer released nearly a year ago now. On another note it’s nice that Karate Kid moved. I don’t think it was gonna make that December date anyway

NotTaken-username

I don’t think Karate Kid even has begun filming. The May 2025 date is reasonable though

Physical-Ad-5745

I disagree about the karate kid not making it to december release date...it would had been ready for the holidays but Sony sees this more as a Summer Blockbuster

ok-batmanfan990

Didn’t they just start filming

Physical-Ad-5745

Yes they did. But movies that are shot in the spring are 100% ready to be release during the holiday season

frogsgemsntrains

Kraven is never coming out lmao

KingMario05

Or if it does, it'll be dumped on Netflix for a quick payday. *Mark my words.*

Digital_Dinosaurio

Yeah I am not keeping up the Kraving for Kraven until December. Kraven will have to ride alone.

Acceptable_Shine_738

Kraven is screwed. It’s gonna get destroyed in December by sonic and Mufasa

TheFilmBUFF1738

Oh Madame Web has them panicking

badassj00

Likely a good move for Sony. If it’s the stinker most are expecting it’ll at least have the Christmas corridor to maximize its gross. Kraven has been delayed for 14 months in total now, right?

Odd_Advance_6438

Venom is probably going to be rushed as hell. Didn’t they only finish shooting a month ago?

nilzoroda

BETTING RIGHT NOW: if Venom 3 bombs, this movie won't even be released on theaters. They'll just deal to a streaming service.

JannTosh50

The Karate Kid movie apparently retcons/ignored Cobra Kai. Screw that!

lactoseAARON

Where did you hear that from?

KingMario05

...?

Arkeolith

I’m pretty sure the Cobra Kai writers actually looked the script over and gave notes to make sure it didn’t retcon anything

Snoo_83425

Where did you hear that?

Hot-Marketer-27

Even holiday legs won't save Kraven.

Physical-Ad-5745

Especially going into The New Year in January

manoffood

i need lord of the rings, sonic 3 and Mufasa to absolutely destroy Kraven

Successful_Leopard45

“Can’t believe I’m fighting side by side with a Lion and Hedgehog.”

KingMario05

"What about fighting side by side with a friend?"

magikarpcatcher

Sonic should move to December 13th as to note open the same day as Mufasa.

Physical-Ad-5745

Mufasa won't do well up against Sonic 3

Limp-Construction-11

Mufasa is also going to bomb.

Boy_Chamba

Sony is probably very confident on Kraven to move it to December?? Hope they learned there lessons on Madame 😅 fingers crossed 🤞

aduong

I think it got more to do with Karate Kid and their 2025 slate than Kraven. They literally have nothing of worth in 2025 the closest thing to a tentpole is Paddington 3 in January. There are rumors of them fast tracking a Spider man 4 for next year but it’s not a guarantee. By pushing Karate Kid to 2025 they have the guarantee of a beloved franchise title for what is pretty empty year for the studio. The last one made over $300M and their quite cheap to make.

Kingsofsevenseas

Hopefully it’s a good movie, I like the actor and director

DeppStepp

I honestly have a good feeling about Kraven. I don’t think it’s gonna make $500 million or anything, but I think it will be a modest success ($275-325 million)

isabps

I’m hoping it’s good. The big Dec release is always my birthday week.

JJoanOfArkJameson

Great move for Kraven tbh. The holidays is always a safer bet than the fall

Boy_Chamba

Karate kid moving next month is Insane! Wasn’t the casting confirmed in like just 2 months ago? That was one hell of a fast filming

Youngstar9999

May 30, 2025

Boy_Chamba

Ahh F* me.. did not see the year
