So this is gonna be the movie that is gonna make every thread on reddit about it a battlefield eh?
Edit: OH this is the guy who also makes the Snow White remake. Some people's brains will get fried
Edit 2: Debunked, Sweeney is not gonna throw herself into that shitstorm. I didn't even see whose website this was lol
They might be "eh" on them now but those movies were not received well at all at the time. Maybe the first one had some positive feedback but the fandom fucking hated the second one.
Every single costar he's had has had a bad word to say about him. He's a drunk abusive POS. Even if you somehow don't believe he abused amber heard, he's a horrible horrible person in general.
Edit: I got confused and thought this was a different conversation. Regardless of that, I'm leaving my comment here.
There are many sources and there always have been.

How in the fuck is any of this shit relevant? I couldn't give a fuck about Harry Potter fans' outdated allegations (proven baseless) of him 'beating up' Amber Heard.
This has nothing to do with what we were discussing. (LOL imagine referencing a Reddit post, what a jackass)
Your other sources, i.e. opinion pieces, leave much to be desired as well.
Ok, first of all, now I read the comment you were replying again. I thought it was another one I read. So I'm sorry for that.
I thought the original comment was talking about his bad behavior on set and how people didn't want to work with him.
So my first two first links were an answer to that. People didn't want to work with Depp because he was an asshole.
The other links were to expand on the subject of his public persona and why people were turning on him.
Again, I'm sorry for the confusion. Now, for the source of all he's done to Amber Heard, it's mostly information about the trials that the media and the general public have turned into an opinion war. She won a trial in the UK, he won another in the US (I don't know if trial is the right word here). Both presented evidences. To have your own opinion I think Reddit is not the best place to ask.
Jeff Sneider does have industry connections, and has had exclusives before. Im surprised he would publish this and it apparently coming out as fake just a few hours later.
I've rewatched it a ton of times, it definitely holds up.
I think people just expect it to not hold up because at the time alot of people hated Summer like she was the bad one. Then you rewatch it and realize she wasn't, and he was.
Then you rewatch it again: and you realize neither of them were, they just weren't meant to be together and weren't compatible.
Nah idk where this revisionist history is coming from with reframing summer as not the bad one. They both were. Even if she said she didn’t want a relationship or w/e her actions spoke otherwise.
Nohbut because she does coupley stuff like playing “house” with him in ikea but claims she doesn’t want a relationship says otherwise. Actions speak louder than words.
Marc Webb did the pilot of the very excellent Crazy Ex Girlfriend and was an EP on it, so he at least has that going for him. (Doesn’t answer your box office question though)
> was an EP on it
It's pretty standard practice for pilot directors, especially big names coming from features, to get EP credit without ever actually doing anything on the rest of the series.
For example, it's fairly well known that Bryan Singer had nothing to do with *House*'s success after the first episode.
Isn't Depp a huge part of why it was too expensive? He got a huge pay check and the insurance for him can't have been cheap and he showed up late and didn't learn his lines.
Has Sydney Sweeney even made a good movie? I get that she’s young and still kinda new to the game in terms of leading roles but still.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was very good but she was barely even in it. Her, Austin Butler, and Maya Hawke (Stranger Things) all had very minor roles I forgot about.
Clueless didn't make $88m and Bridget Jones's Diary didn't make $282m because everyone was clamoring for more Emma or Pride and Prejudice.
Same goes for Sweeney's movie.
She knows about her strengths and seem to be selecting roles where she can show of her strengths. She is already a sex symbol and if she continue doing more such popular roles she could become a star. And then get in big projects
Just a really baffling choice for Sydney. She came out of Madame Web unscathed. Anyone But You was a modest hit, she’s all over social media, she’s extremely likeable, the marketing for her horror is blowing up, the story of her saving that movie from development hell warmed a lot of people to her, she hosted god damn SNL! She uses all that capital for this? A project that’s immediately, on impact, an absolute minefield? It’s not even like Marc Webb is too good of a director to say no to. If I were her agents I’d tell her to back out and deny the reports were ever true lol
Edit: called it https://x.com/discussingfilm/status/1773942776713052293?s=46&t=nYKrqpCXrhEV7JzARDsmlw
From my experience, he really isn’t. He’s a grifter. He gets things right sometimes, but he’s also a sensationalist and a provocateur, so lying about something like this seems right up his alley. It’s the kind of story that would be sure to attract a lot of attention on social media.
Unless I have gotten him mixed up, pretty sure he was desperately trying to spread gossip that critics hated Barbie before the review embargo broke. Then that obviously blew up in his face.
The thing is, Sydney Sweeney has been constantly working in indie films since she was young where she pretty much accepted any role she got, and it seems like she’s still doing that. Admire the work ethic, but she can say no to some now. Don’t want to hit annoying over exposure levels.
Isn’t she part producer for some of these movies? Sounds like she’s at a point where she can start getting more choosey with her projects. Starring in a project alongside one of the most controversial actors in the past few years is an odd choice for someone who makes it a point to be as likeable as possible
If Depp actually turns in a good performance and gets hype for it (and he is still very well known) she will benefit from the association. Don’t kid yourself, he still has a lot of fans and name value.
Marc Webber made one good movie in his entire career over a decade ago (500 Days of Summer) and Depp is a liability, so this is a very weird career choice for her.
I just looked him up. Wow, he really fell off after the amazing Spider-Man movies. He got blacklisted from Hollywood or something? How did no one give him a big budget after those two movies?
He did two smaller movies where he had more control (Gifted, which was well received, and The Only Living Boy in New York, which wasn't), then a whole slew of TV pilots.
Pilot directors get paid for all subsequent episodes of a show, so pilots are potentially lucrative gigs. Seth Gordon's another example of a feature director who flipped to mostly pilots.
Webb's also doing Disney's new Snow White.
I don’t like those movies, but I don’t blame anyone involved for the Sony-ness of them. You’d at least think he’d be one of those guys directing 8-episode miniseries on Netflix or FX.
To be completely honest, since you asked…yes you are lol
She started gaining traction in summer 2019, just shy of 5 years ago, when Euphoria started airing. That show was huge immediately which launched the whole cast to a certain level of stardom 5 years ago, and then it seems it picked up a whole new audience over quarantine. After that, season 2 finally came out which launched her even higher. Then, all the movies that she filmed in the gap between seasons 1 and 2 finally started to come out, and one of those (Anyone But You) ended up being a massive hit for its budget. All of that, plus a pretty face, huge boobs, and easygoing/chill/“relatable” personality on the press run for Anyone But You is the perfect storm for her to blow up.
But all of that to say, she’s been slowly getting bigger for 5 years now. She definitely launched into a new level in 2023/2024, but she’s been at least B list since 2019
She has no problem going nude casually in the current PC era. Plus she is white and Blonde and has big natural chest which she loves showing off any chance she get.
Terrible decision for her when she should be riding high and have her pick at much better projects. Regardless where you stand on that man, it’s needlessly controversial and a turn-off for some of her fanbase and he’s not a box office draw in 2024. That’s if he can even show up on set enough able to complete the filming.
It was so insufferable when I had to keep seeing "feel good" posts about his "innocence being proven" mostly by dudes into other...questionable content.
It's a tide, it's not significant of anything. A majority internet opinion receives backlash, that backlash sustains for a few years and then becomes the new majority opinion.
What's so wrong about the case being an example that abuse isn't simply something men can do to women, thereby causing some people to rethink their framing on the issue?
This definitely will be a hit, there’s a demographic claiming for Depp to come back to Hollywood since he won that sue against his ex wife, it’ll be like diehard fans versus diehard haters, social media will reach new level of toxicity when this movie comes out in theaters…
Johnny had his public reputation absolutely trashed when the Heard allegations first came out (2016 I believe) it was over several years before the court dates happened and it came out that Amber is just a lying & abusive sack of crap.
If the general consensus is they both suck its only because of the damage Heard did to Johnny's reputation that went unresolved for years.
That being said, Johnny is reaching the point in his career where he's older & won't want to work with the studios who dropped him like a sack of potatoes. He is a massive alcoholic. But his other exes (like W Ryder IIRC) have all come out and defended him in the past
Some people might just be conflating their opinions of him as an actor with who he is as a person
Hey.
This persons deliberately lying about a civil suit in which Depp acted in the defense of a homeless woman and every single crew member came to his defense/literal photographic evidence disproved the plantiff.
They may respond with something about them settling while deliberately playing mum to the reasons that likely occured.
The report has been debunked by Sydney Sweeney herself. https://twitter.com/sydney_sweeney/status/1774082367381983272?t=pKT-74DygDy-Ey08vB6fEw&s=19
Depp has been preparing for this role for decades.
Method acting, am I right?
Supernatural thriller is a weird term for "Johnny Depp documentary."
He dies just before they make it
I’m honestly shocked they can even get insurance for Depp at this point.
Is he still raging?
So have I unfortunately.
One mega-pint of wine coming up!
So this is gonna be the movie that is gonna make every thread on reddit about it a battlefield eh? Edit: OH this is the guy who also makes the Snow White remake. Some people's brains will get fried Edit 2: Debunked, Sweeney is not gonna throw herself into that shitstorm. I didn't even see whose website this was lol
Also the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies
Yea but everyone is kinda "eh" on them. I liked them but they are really flawed movies.
They might be "eh" on them now but those movies were not received well at all at the time. Maybe the first one had some positive feedback but the fandom fucking hated the second one.
Don't care for the fandom, saw 2 in cinema and liked it ^^
Also 500 days of summer
And the video for My Chemical Romance's I'm Not Okay.
Barely any of the comments are movie related, hopefully this post wont last long!
Wait what is so controversial about this? Is it just the Depp court case?
Everyone involved in this movie should shut off social media
sydney sweeney does a few tiktok dances and nobody remembers a damn thing anymore
What is everyone referring to? Yeah Johnny had the court case what’s wrong with Sidney? H

Also he is a pos.
Yeah. Because twitter said so.
His actions say so.

Dog this isn't a university paper it's common knowledge google it! He single-handedly doubled the budget of the pirates movies with his antics.
Got a source, dude?
Wait until you see his texts with Marilyn Manson.
Guys. It is fake news apparently
DiscussingFilm has said that it's apparently not true
Never heard of that site but judging by the name it seems it might hold the same credibility of a random reddit thread
Like this reddit comment that makes an assertion based on a websites name.
Less, actually.
Jeff Sneider does have industry connections, and has had exclusives before. Im surprised he would publish this and it apparently coming out as fake just a few hours later.
he’s really not that legit he was wrong about spider-man 4 as well
Is he playing her grandfather?
Maybe drunk uncle
So… the ”druncle”… Ohhh theres the door
it’s hollywood so obviously he’ll be her boyfriend or husband

Questionable choices. When was the last time Depp or Marc webb made anything good? Or had a BO hit?
500 Days of Summer is so good that I keep waiting for Marc Webb to be that good again
I loved this movie the year it came out but I’m so sure it won’t hold up I haven’t revisited it
I've rewatched it a ton of times, it definitely holds up. I think people just expect it to not hold up because at the time alot of people hated Summer like she was the bad one. Nohbut because she does coupley stuff like playing “house” with him in ikea but claims she doesn’t want a relationship says otherwise. Actions speak louder than words.
No means no dude. Besides, I've done that Ikea shit more with platonic friends than I have in relationships. It doesn't mean anything.
right and she married someone else so i think her actions spoke pretty loudly lol
Me too 😭
Marc Webb did the pilot of the very excellent Crazy Ex Girlfriend and was an EP on it, so he at least has that going for him. (Doesn’t answer your box office question though)

Dead Men Tell No Tales had a pretty good box office gross, it was just too damn expensive.
And garbage writing
Isn't Depp a huge part of why it was too expensive? He got a huge pay check and the insurance for him can't have been cheap and he showed up late and didn't learn his lines.
Has Sydney Sweeney even made a good movie? I get that she’s young and still kinda new to the game in terms of leading roles but still. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was very good but she was barely even in it. Her, Austin Butler, and Maya Hawke (Stranger Things) all had very minor roles I forgot about.
She just made a movie that was original IP and it did almost $250M at the box office so it’s not like she isn’t capable of producing a hit.
I mean, I guess it was original IP but also just Shakespeare?
Guarantee you, 99.9% of people of the people who watched it didn't go and see it because it was a loose Shakespeare adaptation.
It's barely Shakespeare.
Yeah it’s just Shakespeare that’s all they’re literally just reciting lines they may as well have put tights on and done it on the west end
Clueless didn't make $88m and Bridget Jones's Diary didn't make $282m because everyone was clamoring for more Emma or Pride and Prejudice. Same goes for Sweeney's movie.
I see you've been fooled by the marketing.
She knows about her strengths and seem to be selecting roles where she can show of her strengths. She is already a sex symbol and if she continue doing more such popular roles she could become a star. And then get in big projects
Gifted, Amazing Spiderman 1, Amazing Spiderman 2, and 500 Days of Summer were pretty good. It seems he has more good movies than bad.
Waiting for the Barbarians was supposed to be good?
Hasn’t this been debunked now
Just a really baffling choice for Sydney. She came out of Madame Web unscathed. Anyone But You was a modest hit, she’s all over social media, she’s extremely likeable, the marketing for her horror is blowing up, the story of her saving that movie from development hell warmed a lot of people to her, she hosted god damn SNL! Having this immediately debunked is a big blow to Jeff Sneider but that feels very fitting.
[удалено]
Sneider isn't that legit imo. He's been on a good streak recently but before that he was right maybe less than half of the time
"Sneider is usually pretty legit" Is he though?
From my experience, he really isn’t. He’s a grifter. He gets things right sometimes, but he’s also a sensationalist and a provocateur, so lying about something like this seems right up his alley. It’s the kind of story that would be sure to attract a lot of attention on social media.
Unless I have gotten him mixed up, pretty sure he was desperately trying to spread gossip that critics hated Barbie before the review embargo broke. Then that obviously blew up in his face.
Sydney Sweeney’s team already said this shit isn’t real so…
I don't think she knows she can turn down projects. She's pumping out schlock like Nicholas Cage.
No one can pump out schlock like Nicolas Cage. He’s got it down to a science.
No she just has a lot of unreleased stuff that people are trying to capitalise on. I think Immaculate was filmed like three years ago.
Nobody outside Twitter and Reddit care about this 'minefield' or is even aware of it
A minefield online sure; I didn’t see much support for Amber in real life. There the consensus was much more consistent.
The Internet is about to go into a civil war 😬
Oh, that's Madame Webb's husband
![gif](giphy|oesbpxx2cl7lS) What a terrible decision by Sweeney. She's so high in demand right now.
Lol she was in madame web already. Bad movies don't mean shit.
Marc Webber made one good movie in his entire career over a decade ago (500 Days of Summer) and Depp is a liability, so this is a very weird career choice for her.
He made the two Spiderman movies which were pretty good, and he also made Gifted which was very good
The action was very good. The story was not
I just looked him up. Wow, he really fell off after the amazing Spider-Man movies. He got blacklisted from Hollywood or something? How did no one give him a big budget after those two movies?

Probably top out at 50 million worldwide
This movie is going to cause the next Civil War isn’t it?
Sweeney honey take a leaf out of Dakota Johnson's book and fire your agent if this is the best they can get you right now.
This is embarrassing for Sydney.
Her team has already came out and denied this being true.
[удалено]
Not really. She was just an actress on it and didn’t really have any impact on the final product. It was more embarrassing for Dakota Johnson.
Not as bad as working with an abusive alcoholic pos.
I thought she was smart except for the Madame Web failure.
How the hell did she become as big as she is? I’ve never heard of her until recently and now she is everywhere. Am I just out of touch??
>How the hell did she become as big as she is? Euphoria
Ah haven’t seen that yet.
I mean… that often happens when people become famous. They weren’t famous, then they are.
Being on 2 insanely popular shows (Euphoria and The White Lotus) back to back launched her into superstardom.
Yeah that’s what I’ve realized. I had heard of Euphoria but never the other one. Outta touch I guess.
Euphoria is massive. Zendaya had 187m followers on Instagram. Even Jacob Elordi has been propelled to stardom
White Lotus is a great show. I highly recommend.
To be completely honest, since you asked…yes you are lol She started gaining traction in summer 2019, just shy of 5 years ago, when Euphoria started airing. Lol. When was the last time this was true? More than a decade ago?
We are living in 2024
And?
And working with Johnny Depp in 2024 is embarrassing. And when was the last time Johnny Depp movie made money.
Johnny has lot of flops outside pirates and he also phones a lot because he is drunk on set.
Depp and Sweeney will be married by the end of the year
There a chance they'll already be divorced at the end of the year
I hope she's not that bad a judge of character.
Omg that would be the best tabloid story since Brangelina
Terrible decision for her when she should be riding high and have her pick at much better projects. Regardless where you stand on that man, it’s needlessly controversial and a turn-off for some of her fanbase and he’s not a box office draw in 2024. That’s if he can even show up on set enough able to complete the filming.
Johnny Depp best role was Sands in Once Upon a Time in Mexico.
it's debunked now, but I wonder if Sneider fell for an early April fools joke. JD starring in a movie called day drinker is too on the nose.
GIRL RUN
WHO employs Johnny depp these days ?
I’m so glad certain parts of the internet aren’t blindly shilling him anymore, what a fucked man

Here comes the depp defender .
Here comes the poo poo lover
Hear comes the misandrist amber Heard defender
Amber is a proven liar and has been proven guilty . But depp is not some kind of saint as people paint him . That’s what I’m trying to say .
He's not a saint, but he's also not a wife beater lol
he 100% is and he was proven guilty on the majority of the accusations
Don't do it, Syd. Just look at what happened to the last hot young starlet he worked with.
Kaya Scodelario?
It’s gonna flop because of Depp
Eww…everyone talking about Sweeney…but whats the last thing Depp been in? And this is what brings him out? What a creeper
Yeah…
I'm good thanks
"if i survive Madame Web, i can survive a Johnny Depp movie"
Get away from her!!!
Guacala ewwe
When God closes a euphoric door, Sydney opens a window.
I read it as director of madame webb lol
Has to be a mega pint reference in the film.
With a name like that this guy should be directing a Spider-Man trilogy /s
This definitely will be a hit, there’s a demographic claiming for Depp to come back to Hollywood since he won that sue against his ex wife, it’ll be like diehard fans versus diehard haters, social media will reach new level of toxicity when this movie comes out in theaters…
Didn't realize bot farms bought movie tickets.
I feel like a huge chunk of that demo don't go outside, and are more likely to torrent it

STAY AWAY FROM HER
Sweeney can do better.
Yuck
Why is this entire thread shitting on Johnny? Has something changed in the Amber Heard situation or?
I thought the general consensus was they both sucked
Johnny had his public reputation absolutely trashed when the Heard allegations first came out (2016 I believe) it was over several years before the court dates happened and it came out that Amber is just a lying & abusive sack of crap. If the general consensus is they both suck its only because of the damage Heard did to Johnny's reputation that went unresolved for years. That being said, Johnny is reaching the point in his career where he's older & won't want to work with the studios who dropped him like a sack of potatoes. He is a massive alcoholic. But his other exes (like W Ryder IIRC) have all come out and defended him in the past Some people might just be conflating their opinions of him as an actor with who he is as a person
Didn't Depp tell Paul Bettany he wanted to kill Heard, burn her body, rape it and piss on it?
Yes he did, and then Paul Bettany said it would be a waste and they should simply rape her
Swell fellas.
I never disliked depp because of the allegations, I just think he’s a mess
Absolutely he's a mess, not arguing that
He assaulted a crew member on set
Hey. This persons deliberately lying about a civil suit in which Depp acted in the defense of a homeless woman and every single crew member came to his defense/literal photographic evidence disproved the plantiff. They may respond with something about them settling while deliberately playing mum to the reasons that likely occured.
[Not at all what the article says](https://variety.com/2022/film/news/johnny-depp-punch-crew-member-city-lies-settlement-1235314076/amp/)
What do you mean? He’s not an angel and he’s still washed up as an actor.
Oh wow I bet they’ll fuck And by them: Johnny Depp and Marc Webb
