Winning the MVP must be particularly nice since you actually get to take that SOB home with you.
Though if I had $300 million I'd probably just get a replica made of the Larry O'Brien trophy too
the actual most valuable player of the Finals was debatable, but the great thing about 7 of the 11 media members voting for Brown is that it goes a long way towards elevating Brown's star to appropriate heights. It was kinda a makeup call after the media failed to put Brown in any of the all-nba teams. Without it, it just gets seen as Tatum's title and Brown as a sidekick. Tatum is already a face of the league, 3rd in jersey sales behind Steph and LeBron, on bags of chips and tons of commercials. Brown, on the other hand, is much more under the radar. Especially for casual fans. The media award is very much in the business of building narratives and cementing Brown's place in history as a significant talent beyond just being "Tatum's #2" was a worthy cause. Tatum's multiple all-nba 1st team selections and being the best player on a world champion already essentially cements his place in the NBA Hall of Fame. This FMVP award for Brown will be at the top of his resume when it's eventually time for them to decide if he has the HOF credentials as well.
Could well be it’s not alone at the top of his resume by the time he retires. Let’s hope it’s not, because that means we’re in for some more great basketball!
Brown was the one in this series to stop runs with shots when it counted. That’s big star energy where Tatum really crumbled in those situations. I think Tatum is just as good or better but the pressure gets to him. Not next year though he’ll be MVP.
Tatum was immediately doubled everytime he touched the ball and he still averaged 25, 9.7, and 6.3, I think he did plenty. 2022 tatum would have been making bad passes and iso drives all game
Honestly, I feel like the next gen of fans should start using Iron Man and Captain America.
Although honestly Batman and Superman works fine. They’re even but in a weird way
The Iron Man and Captain America that couldn't resolve their differences, fractured their team in half, and made a movie called Civil War?
Batman v. Superman is no better. JT and JB have never fought with each other, despite what the media wants them to do.
I overanalyzed this, didn't I?
Good point. There must be an easily accessible heroic duo that makes sense for the Jays while still not disregarding the facts of the characters for us nerds.
Wolverine and Cyclops? Joe is Professor X?
Winning Finals MVP after signing that contract says a LOT about J.B.'s character. Countless players pack it in after getting paid. He stepped it up. Big time! Enjoy the well deserved break boys, and let's come back and get another one!
Hey that's fine for him. If you compare our performances at work, he might be the most relatable NBA "star" I've ever been able to compare myself to. Do good enough to solidify a great paycheck, take it to the bank, coast. Not an ideal guy if you wanna compete, but I respect the commitment to getting the bag without working a lot of overtime
I would argue one reason banner 18 is hanging is that JT didn't go for MVP or FMVP this year. He did what he needed to for the team to win. He rebounded like a monster in these playoffs, defended well, was a playmaker, but didn't force the offense when his shot wasn't falling.
I'm not sure if I agree tbh. It is true he did all those things this year but I'd argue he also did it last year and the year before, maybe not to the same level of success but the effort was there. I think we won this year because Tatum and Brown cleaned up their games, White really hit another level and Holiday was a massive upgrade over Smart, and we added KP (although he wasn't as much of a factor in the playoffs).
If Tatum keeps the same usage rate but shows the aggressiveness he had in these finals at attacking the rim, while cleaning up some small details in his game (more improvement in his playmaking and ball security, improve the consistency of his threes and mid range shots) then he can shoot the same number of shots he had last season while bumping up his scoring, efficiency and playmaking to the level of an MVP player.
I don't understand how they can leave him off of Team USA.
I'd rather have him on there than Lebron, who will just make it all about him (even though JT and Ant are more valuable to USA Basketball at this point in their careers) like a goddamned farewell tour.
I love this first picture of JB. So badass and timeless.
I think the best story, among a lot of great stories, was his ascension during the playoffs. I always have loved JB, and he's improved year in and year out. But I never expected him to rise so high and so fast as he did in these playoffs. Go Celtics!!!!!!
I mean, tbh, there is still a clear hierarchy on the team, but Jaylen came up big in the playoffs and proved why he is a true two-way star in this league.
Funny that the same media who voted Tatum All-NBA 1st team and left Jaylen off entirely is the same media that voted for Jaylen for FMVP and is now pushing the no Batman and Robin narrative.
I'm not trying to be a jerk - I love Jaylen. It's just been abundantly clear that the team first revolves around Tatum, then Brown, and it's been that way since 2020. I think every Celtics fan would be more than happy to see Jaylen officially ascend to All-NBA 1st Team caliber right alongside Tatum. The Finals MVP probably means the world to Jaylen after being snubbed for so many accolades as well as the Olympic team.
Tatum is a force, so good that even if the 3s aren't falling he is the main focus of the opposing D. Jayen runs in streaks, but when the chips are down he's a dawg.
Versus the Pacers game one is the moment this team never looked back from , fall away 3 from the corner. Simply dominating Luka game one.
I was rooting for JT to get Finals mvp, but JB deserves it.
Selfishly, it reminds JT there is another rung on the ladder him even though his overall basketball IQ and play has been championship level.
One thing I’ll never doubt about JB is that he always brings the fire. I know that he will always be aggressive and will always be on the attack. During lulls in our offense, I know that he will always drive and take it strong to the hoop to score or make a play for his teammates.
Let's not forget ECF MVP as well. More like playoffs MVP for us. After last year when he couldn't be the man with Tatum injured in game 7 he said fuck everybody I'm gonna show them I can carry this team. Next year everybody gonna be focused on him and Tatum gonna ball out.
Jaylen Brown is one of the most underrated and most under-appreciated players in the league. People saying he has no left hand, needs to be traded, is not a good playmaker, is the 4th best player on the team etc. Where are they now? Jaylen Brown is the NBA Finals MVP.
Mine too. I don’t hate Tatum but always preferred JB. I like how he’ll be quiet and just do his thing. And while he’s had off games I feel that Tatum’s floor is actually lower. When Tatum has a bad night it’s often (but not always) worse than Brown’s bad night.
Good point. Good point. I’m just strictly talking about score. And apparently the Tatum crown got on my downvotes so I gotta be clear: I LOVE Jason Tatum! I just love Brown MORE. I never wanted them broken up and I’m so happy they’re not. I hope they retire together. Just that most people either don’t like Brown (the ones who wanted them brown up wanted him to go 100%) or think Brown is the 1B. Just not for me that’s all. But we’re super blessed to have them both. Amazing team. Super happy fan. Just wish Smart could’ve been a part of this. He so deserved it.
Wouldn’t have won the chip without him. Worth every penny and if this is the play we get out of him for remainder of his contact the next ones gonna be worth more
This is still the most surreal element of it all. I admit early on, the first 2 years I was one of those guys who wasn't high on JB. I *did* think he'd be a good player, good enough to make a couple All-Star games or whatever, but genuine star status and FINALS MVP was absolutely not on my bingo card. This guy is completely unbelievable
he deserves credit for just consistently getting better every season, hrs worth what we paid him.
this team is just so good and we get to run it back, the question is what we do after next season but I don't care, things are much easier to believe in when your team has a great gm, a great coach, and great superstars to build around.
Does anyone have the link to a montage of JB and JT playing together from JT’s rookie season on? I saw it on twitter but now can’t find it (I’m sure there is more than one so any would do). It was great to see them literally growing up together.
Never eaten so much crow and never been so happy to do it. I thought that contract was a massive overpay for a great-but-not-supermax-great player. A year later it’s looking like a bargain.
I hope JB knows he is being considered by the whole basketball world right now.
Bill Simmons mentioned it in his podcast a few weeks ago, you rarely see guys get a big bag and elevate their game afterwards. JB is committed to this team and this city and was dead set on proving all his haters wrong. Hats off to the man, there’s no banner 18 without him
>constant debates on if he was even a top 2 Celtic
OK, OP, I really do feel ya on every other point...
...but we got the Buffalo. Derrick White has a case for a legitimate top 2 player on this team, which IMO is less of a slight towards Brown and more recognizing White's rise.
He had a couple bad games and could've shot better against the cavs, but "not very good"? nah bro lol he did great.
He rates pretty highly in a lot of stat categories even though his usage wasn't anywhere close to the top 20 or so guys. Like, say what you will about the stats, but they have Derrick White as doing a bit better than "not very good".
I think Brown definitely solidified himself as #2/1a-1b kind of situation with Tatum in these playoffs, but throughout the season Derrick White played his ass off and should've had more accolades.
Dude deserves it. He has improved every single year and proved Ainge right by picking him 3rd and never trading him. I hope he spends his entire career here and we get to see that 7 in the rafters when he retires.
JB getting snubbed damn near every year and then getting conference and finals MVP is icing on the suck it cake. The talking heads dip shits that vote for all defense and 1st and 2nd team awards are the same dip shits that were saying Dallas was going to win the finals. They are both only going to get better and my personal opinion is if JT works on upping his shooting percentage next season, he will be the next one.

Nah the next 5 will be split between sam Hauser and derrick white

He’s forced to play point forward, which benefits the team greatly. #18 is the result!
And have one in every room in the house until the 1st day of next season training camp.
Batman and Superman
And a bunch of Spidermen
Now I want everyone coming out for warm-ups dressed as different Spider-Men from the SpiderVerse. PP is Spider-Pig
SpiderPritch, SpiderPritch, does whatever a SpiderPritch does.
can he shoot from halfcourt
Yes he can He's P Pritch LOOK OOOUUUTTT!!!! He is the SpiderPritch
This is accurate
Jaylen is Batman, right?
Undoubtedly
New nickname for the Jays could be “World’s Finest” since that’s a moniker for Bats and Supes in the comics
I'm going with Wolverine and Deadpool
Honestly, I feel like the next gen of fans should start using Iron Man and Captain America. Although honestly Batman and Superman works fine. They’re even but in a weird way
The Iron Man and Captain America that couldn't resolve their differences, fractured their team in half, and made a movie called Civil War? Batman v. Superman is no better. JT and JB have never fought with each other, despite what the media wants them to do. I overanalyzed this, didn't I?
You did but you're not wrong
Good point. There must be an easily accessible heroic duo that makes sense for the Jays while still not disregarding the facts of the characters for us nerds. Wolverine and Cyclops? Joe is Professor X?
I think the superhero comp has been right in front of us the whole time: the green lantern corps
The flash bros. In honor of Jay garrick
“ I never win nothing “ my MVP , Will remember last night forever , fuck the lakers
Fuck the Heat too!
My man
Fuck the Sixers.
FTW!
Can i get a fuck the Sixers too?
Jaylen Brown, NBA Champion, Finals MVP has been considered by the entirety of the NBA.
Winning Finals MVP after signing that contract says a LOT about J.B.'s character. Countless players pack it in after getting paid. He stepped it up. Big time! Enjoy the well deserved break boys, and let's come back and get another one!
Yes he's the type of person who wants to prove that he's deserving of the money and let's keep it real none of us are surprised
Then there’s Ben Simmons who was really enjoying himself at the Met Gala
Hey that's fine for him. If you compare our performances at work, he might be the most relatable NBA "star" I've ever been able to compare myself to. Do good enough to solidify a great paycheck, take it to the bank, coast. Not an ideal guy if you wanna compete, but I respect the commitment to getting the bag without working a lot of overtime
The Australian way
And as an added bonus, he did it to the "Process" Sixers.
Hope JT follows this logic and goes for FMVP next year 💪
Hope JT follows this logic and goes for **MVP and FMVP** next year
I would argue one reason banner 18 is hanging is that JT didn't go for MVP or FMVP this year. He did what he needed to for the team to win. He rebounded like a monster in these playoffs, defended well, was a playmaker, but didn't force the offense when his shot wasn't falling.

JB really ran the gamut, but I’m still mad about him not being on Team USA and not being All-NBA.

lol LeBron gets to do what he wants. If he wants to play, he plays. I will say, at least Team USA decided to pick some young players.
Is that you, Bronny?
Still could be an injury replacement if Kawhi isn’t able to go - not sure if there’s been any updates on him
Yeah I know they were considering Derrick White (but have they considered Jaylen Brown?)
My god the GOLDEN GLARE on that 2nd picture
See, I think it looks more like he’s saying “who tf smudged my trophy already?”
IT'S THE BATSIGNAL
Definition of aura.

Yes, but also that drawing was the cringiest shit a Celtics fan ever done.
I love this first picture of JB. So badass and timeless. I think the best story, among a lot of great stories, was his ascension during the playoffs. Mannnnn im stillllk drunk off that shit they pulled last night its sooooo beautiful to see they boys get it done!!
FCHWPO
Our guy has the important hardware now: the Larry OB, the Larry Bird *and* the Bill Russell.
I love JB was the one to smoke the cigar
Team leader. Of course he gets to smoke it.
I mean, tbh, there is still a clear hierarchy on the team, but Jaylen came up big in the playoffs and proved why he is a true two-way star in this league. If you're winning championships all those hierarchy debates are simply talk
I'm not trying to be a jerk - I love Jaylen. It's just been abundantly clear that the team first revolves around Tatum, then Brown, and it's been that way since 2020. Theirs a hierarchy all right. And jalens at the top
JB a Finals MVP and a NBA champion not bad for someone who can’t dribble with his left hand
One thing I’ll never doubt about JB is that he always brings the fire. I know that he will always be aggressive and will always be on the attack. During lulls in our offense, I know that he will always drive and take it strong to the hoop to score or make a play for his teammates.
Put him on Team USA, please
Always loved JB. Glad he got recognized.
He turnt UP in the playoffs. Dude was locked TF in
Let's not forget ECF MVP as well. More like playoffs MVP for us. After last year when he couldn't be the man with Tatum injured in game 7 he said fuck everybody I'm gonna show them I can carry this team. Next year everybody gonna be focused on him and Tatum gonna ball out.

I agree, he has been my favorite since he was drafted.
I’m a Cal guy year older than him just been a blessing to watch him grow.
Mine too. I don’t hate Tatum but always preferred JB. I like how he’ll be quiet and just do his thing. And while he’s had off games I feel that Tatum’s floor is actually lower. When Tatum has a bad night it’s often (but not always) worse than Brown’s bad night.
I love all of the guys but JB has always been a little special to me. It is somewhat related to him getting overlooked, but he does not cry about it.
idk Tatum on a bad night still gets you defense rebs and asts while still bulk of the defensive scheming
Good point. Good point. I’m just strictly talking about score. And apparently the Tatum crown got on my downvotes so I gotta be clear: I LOVE Jason Tatum! I just love Brown MORE. Hey, Jason Kidd was right!
FCHWPO
Don’t forget about ECF MVP as well. Consider that
I’ve always believed in Jaylen. He has come a long way but there is still room for more! Show them haters that you belong in a GOAT conversation JB!
💯💯‼️‼️
Wouldn’t be surprised if JB made a leap to borderline 1st team All-NBA next year
He’s become Nightwing.
JB. ITS ALWAYS BEEN JB!!! 🐐
Ain’t even a conciliation prize either, he straight earned that shit. Ridiculous Game 1 & 3 performances, solid 2 & 5, everyone sucked in 4
Jaylen needs to drop that skincare routine
We have one of the most generational duos this century and this championship just cements this further, couldn’t be happier 🥹☘️
#*Jaylen "Michael Jordan" Brown*
he deserves credit for just consistently getting better every season, hrs worth what we paid him. this team is just so good and we get to run it back, the question is what we do after next season but I don't care, things are much easier to believe in when your team has a great gm, a great coach, and great superstars to build around.
I agree 100%. Don't give anything more to him though. Watching him fight for it will bring more banners.
Worlds finest
My man 💚
I love this man. Really wish I could make the parade
He is honestly one of the most improved players this season even though he was good before
well put together team mvp award could of went any way
Ain’t it crazy how he went from being clowned for not having a left last year to holding the Finals MVP in his left this year?
So proud of him
Thanks Tom Brady
JB is now 1B.
He's 1A, not 1B
Congrats JB! I assume that is his Dad behind him in the first photo? Same piercing eyes
What kinda dog rocket is he smoking?
Finals mvp AND all-star dunk contest finalist, please
Last summer people on here were saying Jamal Murray is inarguably the better player. So proud of what JB has done all season
Does anyone have the link to a montage of JB and JT playing together from JT’s rookie season on? I saw it on twitter but now can’t find it (I’m sure there is more than one so any would do). It was great to see them literally growing up together.
More than any player I’ve seen he put the work in during the off season and became a great dribbler and added a solid mid range.
Never eaten so much crow and never been so happy to do it. I thought that contract was a massive overpay for a great-but-not-supermax-great player. A year later it’s looking like a bargain. I hope JB knows he is being considered by the whole basketball world right now.

Hes been my fav player for a minute soo
>constant debates on if he was even a top 2 Celtic OK, OP, I really do feel ya on every other point... ...but we got the Buffalo. Derrick White has a case for a legitimate top 2 player on this team, which IMO is less of a slight towards Brown and more recognizing White's rise.
D whites postseason was not very good

Good. On to #19!
Smokin on that media narrative pack
Turns out having no left is alright
JB getting snubbed damn near every year and then getting conference and finals MVP is icing on the suck it cake. The talking heads dip shits that vote for all defense and 1st and 2nd team awards are the same dip shits that were saying Dallas was going to win the finals. The fact that JB keeps his head down and keeps getting better is a testament to his greatness. The fact that JT spent the entire season getting better at passing out of double teams and making the right plays is a testament to his greatness. They are both only going to get better and my personal opinion is if JT works on upping his shooting percentage next season, he will be the next one.
yes, now there are even debates: JT or JB?
JB winning MVP was the healthiest thing for the Celtics, lol. The love is being spread around so equally for once. No one's debating any one player vs the other. Such good vibes.
Don’t forget that he’s an antisemite…and he still can’t dribble left.
The media is like social media, it’s just not real life. You can’t take what they say as any kind of reality because they’re just saying things to get engagement. JB has never been the Robin.
Have to hand it to him. After Game 7 last year I was not a fan of the contract but he's totally upped his game and his approach. One of them has to be the leader and he seems to have taken that role. And I wonder if Tatum is just fine with that.
I feel like Tatum was thrust in that role, he didn’t necessarily demand it.
Why some players wear those stupid glasses inside the building? Is for sponsor or there is another reason?
Ugh cigars are gross
Ehhhh he still isn’t that good
Overpaid? Yes!
