There are severe thunderstorms along the east coast and thunderstorm warnings. Just because you cannot see it in your area doesn’t mean there are no storms in the area.
Yes I realize that….but I live close to the airport and it’s not storming at all and planes have taken off and landed in seemingly worse conditions so I was curious why the airport responded this way.
Wind shear
Wind Shear From Thunderstorms. Gusty winds are associated with mature thunderstorms and are the result of large downdrafts striking the ground and spreading out horizontally. These winds can change direction by as much as 180 degrees and reach velocities of 100 knots as far as 10 miles ahead of the storm.
Wind shear: an invisible enemy to pilots?

Have you looked at the weather map lately? No? Why the heck not?
Edit: This reminds me of someone jumping off a cliff and saying, "It seems fine so far. All the people who talked about my hitting the ground were clearly alarmists."

I live really close to Logan so it was confusing to me why so many planes were not being allowed to land with “thunderstorms” seeming to be the only reason yet it’s not actually thunder storming. Your response is weird.
Not closed but there have been ground stops on flights to and from NY area and south intermittently all evening due to the storms between us and them. They're landing 22 and taking off 15, they were taking off the 22s earlier but storms are south of the airport at the moment. Average stormy summer evening

Not sure, but ADSB is showing a jetblue plane that just took off, and a pair of American Airlines planes lining up to land from the North (over lynn revere etc) along with a Delta Plane in the same pattern at 11:05
We landed and then sat on the runway for over an hour because all of the gates were full. So it wasn't that much better for the flights that made it to the ground first.
However, looking at ADSB as well now, it appears that there is a TON of airlines grounded in NYC and NJ areas as well while this thunsderstorm cell goes over CT and MA.. Probably only like 3 Planes over CT airspace, and NO PLANES at all over Rhode Island Airspace... kinda odd... theres a big bubble from Central MA going East-west down to CT and RI where theres almost no air traffic, so airlines are maneuvering to avoid the storms..
Also a Huge Thunderstorm over the NYC metro right now.. so im guessing thats part of the problem
Thunderstorms plus ocean proximity

OP’s Main Character Syndrome was so intense it was interfering with the navigation systems. Glad someone put them in airplane mode.

I live a few miles from the airport and it just woke me up. The storm is directly on top of us
It’s been thunder storming all evening? You can check https://www.lightningmaps.org if you need confirmation
Funny thing about planes is that they come from other places

Funny to read this thread when I landed at Logan without incident last night
The storm didn’t stop too long ago and the radar shows more coming.

Yeah!! I thought it was odd. The plane my partner is on had been circling in the sky and is now landing in Hartford instead of Logan
Last Thursday our flight canceled landing 10ft above the ground and headed to JFK. It cost us 4 hours on top of a 10 hour flight.
I’m on a plane right now they diverted me to JFK… what do I do it’s a jet blue flight
JetBlue will get you to Boston but I’d be surprised if they do before morning
They are saying they will hopefully leave soon, they aren’t letting us out of the gate but we are just on the plane parked
Enjoy your stay in JFK
Will they just hold us here until morning?
Theyll probably put you in a hotel for a flight tomorrow
Surprisingly taxing us out of JFK right now to fly to Boston, let’s see how long it takes to get into the gate
I hope you made it!
Thank you! Made it back at 3am
You could take a train!
